Not really, the land register does that, they will inform the council when key exchange hand and your council tax will be adjusted...when you moved in after buying a house council usually send a form to that address...empty home form(really can not remember the actual name) you basically complete the form indicating when you moved in and whether you renting it or you bought it... the funny thing here is..the council will start billing you for council tax from the day you got the key and not the day you moved in...

This happened to me...i completed the form and indicated the day i moved in but about 7months later council took extra money for my council tax when i contacted them i was told that the land registry informed them that i collected the key days earlier so they have to adjust my council tax.

That too. Usually when you cancel council tax, they will ask you who is liable for the tax and the past owner will put your details. Maybe the former owners did not pass your details to the council so they got the info from the land registry.

I read that there is some sort of discount for empty and unfurnished properties, I've informed my council, let's see if we will get the discount.

Yep you could get a waiver or a discount however its time limited, depends on the council

I was playing around with the mortgage calculator on rightmove... I noticed that for a house of say 600k, the monthly mortgage could be 2500 with a 10% deposit. But curiously, doubling the deposit to 20% only marginally reduced the mortgage to like 2200 (the figures are not exact)
Is there any trick to striking an agreeable balance between increasing the deposit paid and achieving a lower monthly mortgage...cos the way it looks to me, one might as well deposit only 10% and invest tge rest in a buy to let...

Be careful before dabbling into btl, make sure you do your numbers well because you could be paying out of pocket as a private landlord because hmrc considers rent as income. Not to talk about all the regulations, cost and tenant wahala. Some landlords will be fixing kaylov12's fence after the storm.

Look into registering a limited company for btl if you want to go into it

Council tax on empty houses is usually even more than occupied houses. It is like a property tax on every dwelling and someone must be liable either the tenant who lives there or the landlord.

Property gurus correct me if I'm wrong o. Plus I was in same situation last year and paid the tax for both. The person that sold you the house would probably have informed the fibbing that ownership has changed so the bill will be coming to you

To get car is not always the way to go. The cost associated with owning a plus is there parking around your workplace? else the � you will pay for parking.

On falling trees, that was how one guy knocked on my door to give quote to fell a tree outside my house. Don't quote me on this but I think there are protections for tenants to break lease by giving the landlord notice one month I think. You know how the government likes protecting regular people vs. Landlords

If the UK were to be a person, I see it like those Aunties/uncles that have made a name for themselves as big Anty/uncle that tries to solve everyone’s financial issues. I think the Uk/UK government are in a very bad financial place but keep acting like all is well. They promise a lot to people (Afghans), things they cant fulfill. They have a lot going wrong with them, but they feel they have a title globally and would prefer to involve in Ukrainian issues (to save their title) than focus on how to come out of their financial mess.

I see decisions of the UK/UK government affecting the other countries in the union (UK). I think it will be best for the union to be separated so that these other countries can take decisions that best suit them, and not let some group of undisciplined adults control their affairs. If they ever separate the other countries will do far far better than what the controlling country at the moment would achieve.

Since we are here already, it will be best to have an alternate plans. Plans that can be actualized outside the UK. I think it’s going to be a difficult run ahead for the UK and it’s residents. It will be fine at the end, but it’s gonna be ruff.

I am on PAYE, and I worked for another agency for 3 weeks and I told the agency to be deducting the tax when I see that they were not I heard to stop only for HMRC to send me a letter that I am owing them. Since then I have being calling to ask how I will pay back. Is dia no way I can pay them back once ?.

P800, i have recieved one of those. you do not owe HMRC, you only hold on to their money because they will collect. This was on my letter:

I don't know your mother so I talk generally from what I seen. In terms of been helpful most times its even the girls mother . A lot of the men mothers are not helpful when they come (but this just generalisation some are different) so its even better her mum comes. My MIL doesn't lift a pin when she comes to mine and I am managing it as I see it . For the MIL that help their daughter inlaws God bless them. ...so yes exception dey. If she not comfortable with your mum coming then let her not come

this MIL/wife wahala goodness knows where it originated from. Speaking generally like you, women generally prefer their own family. Also when it comes to their homes, women are territorial and complex that even the husbands sometimes dont understand their wives but we love them all the same.

If MIL doesn't come, it becomes she doesn't want to help, she comes but stays in her lane it becomes she is not helping. She is helping and taking charge it becomes she wants to take over my house. The good MILs are cautious and will not want to be overbearing and overstep their bounds. At the end of the day it comes to understanding and mutual respect. Husbands that want to bring their mothers too, let them know the expectations, is it to help look after the kids, help with the run around etc. My mother says she has trained her children so we should train our children, so i wont go and bring her to come and train anybody here, if she comes she is on holiday.
