Jonathan had about 15,000 crowd too, where did it end for him in Kano? These PDP people sure knows how to deceive themselves. MAMMOTH CROWD WITNESSED AT JONATHAN’S CAMPAIGN RALLY IN KANO 2015/01/22 Mammoth Crowd Witnessed At Jonathan’s Campaign Rally In Kano Mammoth crowd has again witnessed President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign rally, even as the president promised the citizens of Kano State that the government, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would encourage small and micro medium scale enterprises in an effort to make young people employers of labour. President Jonathan, in his speech at the PDP campaign rally, on Wednesday, said ‘‘any country that we are at par with now can never overtake Nigeria again in all fronts-in economic front, in industrial sector, in agriculture; and that is why we are trying to create young farmers.’’ He added that, ‘‘We are trying to create young business men. Luckily, we are in Kano, and if you talk about business, you remember people like the Aliko Dangotes, you can remember the Dantatas, the Rabius and others. So, we will surely work with you to encourage small and micro medium scale enterprises to make sure young people like you grow up to the likes of Aliko Dangotes. That is what we stand for, that is what we are working for.’’ According to him, ‘‘We reassure you that working with you, working with the incumbent PDP government; we will surely continue to improve commerce and industry in Kano. We will make sure young people have jobs, our women will have jobs; and that the economy of Kano will continue to grow from strength to strength.’’ http://newswirengr.com/2015/01/22/mammoth-crowd-witnessed-at-jonathans-campaign-rally-in-kano/#

Eurasia Group: Atiku has gained momentum but Buhari will win February 08 2019 by Mayowa Tijani Eurasia Group, reputed as the world’s largest political-risk consultancy, says President Muhammadu Buhari will win the February 16 presidential election. In its final Eurasia Group Politics First election forecast seen by TheCable, the group, which was founded in 1998 by American political scientist Ian Bremmer, said Buhari has a 60 percent probability to win. “Opposition candidate Atiku Abubakar has regained some momentum in recent weeks, but President Muhammadu Buhari remains favored to win (a 60% probability),” the group said. “On election day, the ruling All Progressives Congress’s (APC’s) significantly greater control of local political structures and resources—it governs 23 states compared to the opposition’s 12—will boost voter mobilization and solidify Buhari’s advantage.” In 2015, Eurasia Group tipped Buhari to defeat former president Goodluck Jonathan, changing its stance some weeks to the election, after it had initially chosen the former president to win. At the time, the group said although it initially tipped “President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election, a number of factors had since changed, and the pendulum had swung to the Buhari’s side”. ONNOGHEN WILL NOT AFFECT ELECTIONS The group said the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend Walter Onnoghen, the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria, will not affect the elections. “Positive news coverage in recent weeks, along with Buhari’s controversial move to suspend Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen over allegations of corruption, have boosted Atiku’s campaign, but it is too late to change the electoral dynamics and Buhari remains favored to win on 16 February,” the group said. “As we have previously noted, key actors in Atiku’s camp—including his campaign’s director general Bukola Saraki, key powerbroker Governor Nyesom Wike of the oil-rich Rivers state, and southeast governors from his People’s Democratic Party (PDP)—had been disengaged from his election campaign”. WIKE ANNOYED, SARAKI DISTRACTED Saraki and Wike The group added that Atiku’s big players have been disengaged from his political campaign, adding that governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be fighting to ensure they win their own elections. “Wike was annoyed by Atiku’s failure to consult him on key decisions, Saraki remains distracted by a tough Senate reelection battle in Kwara state, and the southeast governors are hampered by many conflicting motivations, including their own lack of political clout (which makes them reluctant to overtly challenge the federal government) and their wariness of Atiku’s running mate Peter Obi, a former governor of the southeastern Anambra state who they view as a political outsider. “The lack of enthusiasm on the part of some PDP governors is a problem for Atiku because these officials control significant discretionary funds at the state level (known as ‘security votes’) that are easier to access without triggering graft concerns.” ATIKU’S SUPPORTERS NOT WILLING TO DIE FOR HIM Buhari’s passionate supporters The group concluded by saying “Atiku’s voters do not match Buhari’s in passion and are unlikely to risk their lives on the streets for him”. “Though Buhari’s decision to suspend the chief justice triggered widespread criticism and stoked passions (along with fears about a more autocratic Buhari second term), many voters blame the judiciary for not moving quicker to force Onnoghen’s resignation after he admitted he had violated rules regarding declaration of assets. “Thus, should Atiku lose, as we expect, there will be few motivated stakeholders to encourage or instigate serious violence. Instead, we expect PDP governors to quickly turn their attention to fighting to retain their own jobs in state elections on 2 March” A few weeks ago, Eurasia Group said Buhari will continue as a politically weak president, while Atiku may retract his pledge made during campaign season. https://www.thecable.ng/just-in-atiku-has-gained-momentum-but-buhari-will-win-says-eurasia-group

FIRS goes after 85,000 millionaire tax debtors Published February 8, 2019 The Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr Tunde Fowler, has said that the Service, in collaboration with other stakeholders like the Nigeria Police Force, will this year go after wealthy tax defaulters. Fowler said this on Thursday in Abuja when the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, paid a courtesy visit to the Revenue House. A statement from the FIRS on Thursday said Fowler informed the police boss that already the service had realised the sum of N23bn based on a closer look at the books of 45,000 tax debtors. He said each of the 45,000 tax debtors had over N100m as turnover in their accounts. The Service, he said, would be going after another set of over 40, 000 millionaire tax defaulters in 2019. He requested the Nigeria Police to assist the Service to bring the tax defaulters to pay their taxes. He said, “We looked at businesses, partnerships of any activity that has banking turnover between N100m and N999m. We have done a review of this group of businesses. “We have about seven more banks that we are still waiting for the return from and to review their information. “So far, we have 45,361 that have TIN and are making payments. We have 40,611 that have TIN, that made tax payment and, and we have 44,504 that have no TIN and no pay. “So, when you look at it from a glance, we have close to 75,000 in this group that are still not taxpayers and we have said the payment of tax is not only for the civil servants. it’s for all Nigerians. “So, the millionaires and the billionaires will pay tax on behalf of what is due to the national coffers.” Fowler commended the Nigerian Police Force for its support and collaboration over the years, which he said, had helped FIRS to achieve its target and requested for more support to enable it to recover taxes due to rich tax evaders in 2019. “Let me put on record that the Nigeria Police Force has been extremely helpful to FIRS. Without the Police, I doubt that the Service would have been able to achieve what we have achieved. “2018 was a successful year. The FIRS collected a total of N5.32tn of tax revenue. This is the highest revenue collection in the history of FIRS.” Adamu said that the Police would continue to support the FIRS because the job of revenue generation was critical to the survival of the nation. “We feel that the work you do is one of the most important for the survival of the country. And you need to be supported from all angles so that you can achieve what you want to achieve to the benefit of every Nigerian. “We will continue to work with you to improve security so that people would do their businesses here, make profits and pay their taxes. “We believe that with the new management team of the Nigeria Police Force, which is adopting community policing, we would be able to improve security.” https://punchng.com/firs-goes-after-85000-millionaire-tax-debtors/

EXCLUSIVE: EFCC traces lawyer’s $30,000 payment to Onnoghen’s account by Malik Abdulganiy The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced a deposit of $30,000 by Joe Agi, a senior advocate, into the bank account of Walter Onnoghen, the embattled chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), TheCable understands. It has emerged that Onnoghen also failed to disclose that he has an account at Heritage Bank in his asset declaration form — another violation of the code of conduct law. Agi is one of the senior advocates defending Onnoghen in his asset declaration case before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). TheCable was informed that Agi was also the guarantor when the justice opened the account at Standard Chartered Bank. The fresh allegations form part of the report sent by the EFCC to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for disciplinary action to be taken against Onnoghen, who has been suspended as CJN by President Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari said he was acting based on an order issued by the CCT, although observers have accused him of not following due process in his action. Onnoghen is currently being tried by the CCT over allegations of non-declaration of some of his assets, although he said it was an oversight. He also said he made money from agriculture and forex investments. NJC sources told TheCable that the $30,000 deposit was made sometime in 2009 while a series of “suspicious payments” were also traced to Onnoghen’s accounts between 2011 and 2013 during elections petition cases. In a previous case, which was eventually dismissed, Agi’s firm, Messrs Joe Odey Agi, reportedly paid a total of N160 million to the account of Adeniyi Adetokunbo Ademola, a justice of the federal high court. The case filed against him for “gratification” was dismissed on technical grounds, although many lawyers argued that it was a professional misconduct which should have been punished by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee. Efforts by TheCable to reach Agi were unsuccessful as his phone rang out. He has also not responded to text messages. https://www.thecable.ng/exclusive-efcc-traces-lawyers-30000-payment-to-onnoghens-account
