LET EVERYTHING THAT HAS BREATH PRAISE THE LORD. PRAISE GOD

Recently, about five major newspapers called out the DSS for bashing of sorts. The papers, which used their platforms to express varied views about the modus operandi of the Service include Vanguard, Daily Trust, The Sun, Tribune and Punch. While Vanguard’s piece on 2nd June 2023 was Dousing the DSS/EFCC Feud, Daily Trust, on 6th June 2023, published an editorial titled The DSS Must Conduct Its Duties as a Secret Service. The Sun, on 7th June, published The Needless DSS/EFCC Fracas while Tribune on 8th June 2023 wrote on The EFCC/DSS Confrontation.

Similarly, on 14th June 2023, Punch featured DSS, Others Need Radical Reforms. It did not seem that the editorials which sought the reforms of the DSS or to criticise it for its public statements or actions on various subject matters of national security concern were, by any means, an accident or a coincidence. It looked every inch planted or organised. It is a hatchet job or so it seemed. The judgement that the Service is excessively public or ubiquitous missed the point. The papers manifested predictable bias and patterns.

Relatedly, some respected legal personalities namely, Olisa Agbakoba SAN, Mike Ozekhome SAN and Femi Falana SAN opined that the Service operates outside its mandate especially with regards to the investigation of Godwin Emefiele. The fact that this matter has become sub-judice constrains the Service from making further statements about it. The celebration of the news of a court order to allow his Lawyers and family access to him is quite unnecessary. He was never denied access. Ever since he was taken into custody, his family has continually accessed him. Same with medical officials. The impression that the Service is going to act on the prompting of the Court is not correct. This is by the way.

Back to the subject under discourse. While it may be fair to admit that the news media and aforementioned personalities are entitled to their opinions, measured ignorance predominantly played out in their arguments.

First, they failed to recognise that security threats are evolving and so do the approaches to managing them. Instructively, the security landscape in Nigeria, like many other countries, has become increasingly complex and dynamic. The periodic issuance of press statements to educate or carry citizens and residents along has undoubtedly become part of strategies to manage national security challenges. Extensive research would have revealed to the critics that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other world intelligence Services deploy similar tactics including occasional statements and advisories. The CIA includes demographic information on its website to provide the public with valuable insights and data about various populations so to enhance understanding of different regions and communities. Does it mean CIA is operating outside its mandate? Or will that be accepted because it’s CIA, a foreign body?

The need for the agencies to be responsive, transparent and apprise taxpayers has become the global norm in national security and intelligence management. It is called security/intelligence accountability. The tenets of security and intelligence governance expect that agencies remain transparent, accountable and compliant to democracy. World over, Intelligence Services operate in ways and means not too discernable to the uninitiate. But the institutionalisation of democracy as preferred political culture has nonetheless forced such agencies to communicate often with the Public. You can see why the public statements can never be out of place. Without public consciousness and support, countering threats may remain a herculean task for security agencies. Democratic subordination and legislative oversight are basic principles which make it an obligation for these agencies to operate openly even when some of their activities are secret. Ask the USA, UK, France, Canada and other advanced democracies. This level of openness does not vitiate the expected secrecy or in any way compromise their operations.
Regarding the matter concerning the DSS and EFCC, both agencies have refuted claims of a rivalry. It is important to note that comparing the 30th May, 2023 incident at 15 Awolowo Road, Lagos to the barricade of National Assembly in 2018 is inaccurate and unjust due to the substantial differences in the nature and context of the two events. While it is essential to emphasize inter-agency relations and cooperation, it would be unfair to generalise and imply that the Service is in rivalry and power struggle with the Commission. Each agency operates within its distinct mandate and context.
Meanwhile, the editorials accurately alluded to the constitutionality of the DSS as an intelligence organisation in detecting, preventing and neutralising threats against Nigeria. They commended the Service for its commitment to the security of the country as well as the many feats it had accomplished in the course of discharging its duties. Thank you indeed. It has to be understood that the Service is not only an intelligence organisation. It is also a law enforcement agency. It is a security and policy advisory organ. Its establishment law expects it to prevent. To prevent unarguably means to enforce. Should the Service seek media endorsement or permission before deploying operatives and equipment to conduct its job? Should it rather play to the gallery? Characteristic of intelligence operating systems, DSS’ activities may never be completely explained or understood particularly to those who do not need to know.

Even though some of its high officials and operations are known and veils of secrecy uncovered, there are thousand undercover personnel and actions that have no business going public. It is expected to remain so. With its broad mandate and legal authority to investigate crimes of national security significance, the DSS is well within its rights to initiate an inquiry into any relevant matter. The DSS is primarily charged to detect and prevent crimes and threats against the internal security of Nigeria. More profoundly, it is to undertake such other responsibility as maybe assigned to it by the President and Commander-in-Chief. Appreciating this role of the DSS is instructive for some sections of the media, lawyers and other interested parties. The Service operates on the basis of rule of law. Its operations are rule governed. As required, it obtains arrest and detention warrants when and if needed. For the fact that such instruments are not advertised does not suggest otherwise. Critics should get conversant with the law and rules of engagement and desist from misinforming, misleading or inciting the public. Those seeking to weaken the Service through premeditated reforms may be on a wild goose chase. Consistent attack on it based on ignorance, unrealised interests and emotional assessments and judgements does the country no good. The DSS has stood so firmly for Nigeria. It will continue to.
Considering the warped mentality that has triggered these writeups, it will, no doubt, be unsurprising to witness an upsurge in malicious articles, criticisms and baseless attacks in the public space following the investigations of Messrs Godwin Emefiele and Abdulrasheed Bawa among other flimsy matters. Certain groups and people are bound to come up with frivolous allegations against the Service and its leadership. These entities may also exploit unpatriotic members of the Service to spread falsehoods, propaganda and hate in order to project the Organisation in a bad light. Given their reach and war chest to mobilise forces against Government and its key officials, the adversaries may intend to cause distractions to the on-going investigations as directed by the C-in-C. However, the Service will not depose its professionalism for cheap backlash nor discharge its duty with prejudice or fear.
For those who canvass the opinion that the DSS has no business in investigating the matters referred to it are obviously not taking seriously the omnibus powers of the President, as enshrined in the enabling Acts of the SSS and the NSA. As argued by a onetime Director of the DSS, Fubara Duke, “When a law confers on the President power to delegate ANY assignments he deems fit for a particular Agency to perform, I wonder how it falls outside the purview of (ANY) the stipulations of the President’s powers and by extension why the DSS is being faulted for carrying out the President’s directive”. Continuing, he added: “I have heard arguments of cases being thrown out by the courts over questionable prosecutorial powers of the DSS regarding some categories of cases including criminal cases. Without prejudice to the wisdom of the court on such judgements, they should not override the lawful investigative authority of the DSS. Should there be need for prosecution in due course, these determinations would be appropriately evaluated and where/if necessary, appropriate prosecutorial agencies which may include the Attorney General’s Office or other sister agencies may be deployed to prosecute. It is not the first time this has happened”.
Let it be clear, however, that the DSS will remain unshaken and professional in carrying out its duties. It recommits to diligently operate, as always, within the confines of the law and to uphold the fundamental rights of all Nigerians. The media must, as the fifth estate of the realm, remain balanced, accurate, impartial and accountable. To sustain a deliberate misguidance of the public with any form of misconceptions is detrimental to nationhood. Therefore, to deepen the expected contributions, seeking veracity is not only ethical but obligatory. That should not be asking for too much.

CP Owohunwa, NDLEA Lagos Commander, Set To Lead As NAOSNP Walks Against Drug Abuse, Cultism, Others

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa and the State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Commander Umar Isa Adoro, are among top dignitaries scheduled to lead the much advertised Walk Against Drug Abuse, Cultism and Domestic Violence, organised by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

The event which is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, June 20, will kick off at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters at GRA, Ikeja, is a sensitization and advocacy programme to create awareness on the dangers of abusing drugs, joining cults and engaging in any form of domestic and sexual violence, as well as drum support from stakeholders towards keeping watch against the occurence of the aforementioned societal menace.

Speaking on the Walk, the Commissioner of Lagos, who was highly elated at the idea, noted that it is high time the public is made to know more about the dangers they are putting themselves in by engaging in crime and criminality.

"The idea is great, and I am totally in support. The public must continue to hear the message of desisting from all forms of criminality, and be more Law abiding. On behalf of the Lagos Police Command, I thank NAOSNP for their thoughtfulness, and being a veritable partner in the fight crime in Nigeria, and Lagos in particular," Owohunwa said.

The Walk, which the Chairman of the Organising Committee, who doubles as the Public Relations Officer of the Association, Mr. Eric Elezuo, assures will be mega, is expected to have in attendance other agencies and high profile institutions and personalities including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), DCP Chioma Ajunwa, Popular Actress, Chief Mrs Bose Joseph, Hon. Yesterday, I posted on No to rape, little did I know that there are more to the story I shared. The reactions of many on the post really thrilled me and got me worried and scared.

Many called and sent a private chat to me in order to assist the victims, but one of the calls I received that got me shocked was from a mother that confessed that her husband raped her two daughters.

The first one was raped by this animal called a father early this year while the second one was raped two months ago. It was the second one that voiced out to tell her mother just a few days ago when she couldn't keep it again.

I have given her my word that justice will be done and that the man will be brought to book after I finish my own interview with the victims.

Today is Father's Day, responsible fathers don't sleep with their daughters. Women , don't allow your grown up girl to travel and visit your husband who lives alone. It's dangerous.

I'm sure we still have so many gory experiences like this but many are afraid to share it. Please feel free to share your experience because justice will have its way.

Join me to condemn rape in any form. What is bad is bad. Why must a man force a lady to bed?

My attention was drawn to a report from a young lady of 24 years old recently on how someone in whom she saw a father figure eventually raped her in a hotel.

When the case was reported to me, I felt bad and felt like handing over the culprit to law enforcement agents but the lady in question said she didn't want herself to be ridiculed or be subjected to public shame.

We have so many men like that around and they are nothing but animals in human clothing.

So far such have their children, they too should be ready to witness the wrath of Almighty God except they turn a new leaf.

Say no to rape !.

Operatives of the Zone 2 Command have conducted a raid on criminal and kidnappers hideout in the Abeokuta area of Ogun State, recovering arms and ammunition, and killing four kidnappers in the process.

This is contained in a press statement signed by the Zone's Public Relations Officer, SP Hauwa Idris-Adamu, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

The statement credited the success of the operation to the proactive stance of the AIG in charge of the zone, Ari Mohammed Ali, noting that "One (1) unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle, Four (4) AK47 rifles, Six (6) magazines loaded with 20 live ammunition, 10 expended ammunition were recovered."

The statement read:

"On the 6th day of May, 2023 at about 1800hrs intelligence was given to the AIG Ari Mohammed Ali fcia, that a syndicate of kidnappers who have been terrorizing Abeokuta (the capital of Ogun State) and its environs were seen somewhere suspected to be their hideout.

"Consequently, a team of Detectives from the Zonal Monitoring Unit swung into action; on sighting the Police in their hideout at a forest along Ibara Orile Ogun State, the kidnappers engaged the Detectives in a gun duel where four kidnappers were neutralized while others escaped with bullet wounds.

"Thereafter, when the hideout was later searched, One (1) unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle, Four (4) AK47 rifles, Six (6) magazines loaded with 20 live ammunition, 10 expended ammunition were recovered. Further investigation into the incident revealed that members of the syndicate were drawn from different parts of the country while some of them came from the neighboring countries of Niger and Chad respectively.

"However, efforts are on top gear to arrest the other fleeing suspects while investigation is in progress please."

This morning, shortly after the morning prayers which ended around 6.40pm, I went home, freshened up and packed the church fliers in my knapsack, ready for evangelism.

Immediately I stepped out of my house, I went straight for the ghetto in my new hood, as l had been there twice this week for recon. Boys and girls of different social stratas spend their time doing drugs, capping nonsense and learning new vices

Inviting them with the fliers in hand, one of the fine boys there was trying to make fun of me and what I was doing, but I noticed others weren't interested in his antics.

While trying to reason with him, one of the shotcallers there walked up to me, called me by name and offered me a handshake, and then he looked at the other guy (mischief maker) and hissed.

Turns out that after my earlier visits, they had taken due diligence to know who was among them.

Glory to GOD l was just like them, much has changed for me ever since l gave my life to Christ at the Living Faith Church in 2021. Circumstances soon moved me from Obawole to Ilorin in 2021, then back to Lagos, Agbado and now Abuleegba.

Even though I dunno any of them in the Abuleegba ghetto, these guys apparently know me and appreciate what GOD is doing in my life.

I give GOD all the Glory

The Department of State Services, DSS, has invited the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa.

This was conveyed in a press statement e-signed and release to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP on Wednesday night by the spokesperson of the service, Dr. Peter Afunanya.

The statement read: “The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bawa arrived a few hours ago.”

“The invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning him.”

It’s so easy to get caught up in our daily routines and responsibilities that we forget to show appreciation for the people, things, and experiences we have.

Because as Emerson said, everything (good and bad) in our life contributes to who we are and where we are in life. This is something I didn’t appreciate until recently, to be honest with you.

I thought, “I’m a grateful person. I say thank you a lot.” But that’s not enough. When I was reading Emerson, I finally realized I was NOT grateful for many things in my life. I’m glad I realized it now.

In this article, I share some of the important things I’ve underestimated in my life for way too long, and how appreciating these lessons made me happier.

1. Where you grew up & live now
I grew up in a city called Leeuwarden, in the north of The Netherlands. I was always the only non-white kid in my class. In the 90s, the percentage of non-white people was around 5%.1
During my childhood and teens, the city had a population of around 100,000. I always complained about our city. No diversity, too small, no big business, no career opportunities.
While our city has grown and has become a bit more diverse, it’s still a traditional Dutch city. And this is something I appreciate a lot now.

Growing up with Dutch values has made a big impact on the way I view the world. People here are hard workers, honest, direct, and frugal. These are common traits that almost everyone lives by. And I love that.
Everyone has their own story and upbringing. Whether it’s good or bad, it’s who you are. Never run from it. Appreciate it. Use it. But never let it box you in.
I know people who grew up in hard circumstances and still made something out of their lives. They used their hardship as a strength. We can all do that, no matter where we come from. Just don’t run from it. Escaping is not the answer. Embrace it.

2. The power of your mind
If I look at how I live my life now compared to several years ago, I feel much stronger mentally. I feel that way every year because I keep training my mind.
I remember getting so swayed by my emotions whenever something “bad” happened to me. And I say “bad” because I never had something really bad.
Like many other people, I hardly ever got what I wanted. And if we don’t get what we want, we get emotional. If I experienced setbacks, I wanted to give up.
I even had it with my writing career. I started in 2015 and it wasn’t until 2018 that I was earning a good living. Before that, I often thought, “Screw this thing. I’m doing something else.”
We all get discouraged. Especially because it seems like EVERYONE else is successful. The other day I saw a post that said something like, “How I make $200,000 a month from online courses.” For a second, I thought, “What? I want that too.”
Then I thought, “Screw that guy. I love my life.”

That’s the power of your mind. No matter where you are in life and how you feel, trust me, things will get better.
Your mind is more powerful than you think. That’s something we must never forget to appreciate.

3. The mistakes you’ve made
Every single mistake you made or bad thing that has happened in your life has shaped you. The question is: Are those things improving you or hurting you?
Let it be the former. Let your mistakes be teachers.
It took me a long time to appreciate my mistakes. Because the things I saw as mistakes were not mistakes. They were lessons in disguise.
This is not just some motivational talk. When I started my first business out of grad school, I thought I made a mistake by not pursuing a traineeship at a corporation.
When I worked at a corporation in London I thought I made a mistake by trying to climb the corporate ladder instead of being my own boss.
When I started my writing career, I thought it was a mistake to leave the corporate world to focus on an endeavor with such a low success rate.
But hey, none of those things were really mistakes. I learned and everything made an impact on me.

4. Wind, rain, cold, and “bad” weather
You know I grew up in The Netherlands. So you also know it rains a lot and it’s cold the majority of the year.
For my entire life, I hated that. I complained about the weather a lot. When I stopped complaining several years ago, I said, “I will move to Spain. At least I will have better weather.”
So I tried to live in Spain. I didn’t like it. Too warm. Different culture. Far from my family and friends.
You see, the weather is never perfect. When I was in Spain, I was surprised to see so many people complaining about how warm it was. “Man, it’s so warm I can’t even work without cranking up the AC, which is expensive.”
When I came back to NL, I had a different mindset. I said, “Man, I love the seasons. When it’s cold, I look forward to the warmer weather. And vice versa.”
It’s about your perspective. Just appreciate the weather for what it is. Especially if you live in a place that’s cold. It’s actually pretty nice.

6. TIME
You can look at the concept of time in different ways. You’re probably thinking I’m going to give you the same old story of, “Time is limited.” We know that already.
What I underappreciated for a long time is that time can be your friend. There are a lot of things in life that need time.
Learning skills
Developing a career
Building wealth
Becoming a balanced person
The power of compounding in those areas is crazy. Tiny actions add up over time and lead to HUGE results.
Read for one hour a day. Get better at your work. Save and invest at least 10% of your income every month. Live your life according to philosophy.
If you do those things consistently, time will bring you everything you ever asked from life.
And I mean everything. The problem is that people give up too early. They want to get rich and successful but think results should come within a few years.
You need way more time than that for most good things in life. If you give yourself that time without getting frustrated, you will be better off.
That’s not a matter of IF, it’s a matter of WHEN.

One of the videos of Chief MKO Abiola GCFR, during the struggle of annulment June 12 election shared on WhatsApp platform of “Renewed Hope for Islanders 2025”, which l watched on Saturday morning sparked and pricked my conscience.

It says, "It will continue on and off until the military release June 12 election results and put a democratically elected President who is myself (MKO Abiola).”

On the platform, the pioneer and first council leader of Lagos Island local government, City Hall, Lagos in 1999, torch-bearer for Renewed Hope 2025, and current vice chairman of Lagos Island LG, Prince Muhammed Rosul Eshilokun commented on the video that, since June 12, Asiwaju has been on the struggle for democracy in Nigeria.

He added that his emergence as the 16th President of Federal Republic of Nigeria indicates that the “Hope 93 of MKO Abiola came alive with Renewed Hope 2023 for Nigeria."

According to him, "with the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the hope mantra of Chief MKO Abiola, GCFR in 1993 is now actualized with renewed Hope in 2023".

The torch-bearer for Renewed Hope 2025, using the platform shared that Nigeria has a lot to celebrate with 24 years of uninterrupted democracy and its citizens reaping dividends of civil rule while especially feciliating with people of Lagos Island where the struggle of democracy began.

Captured in this article is my submission on the efforts made by current vice chairman Lagos Island local government, Rosul Eshilokun that “The Actualization of Democracy Day Come to Pass” and actively created a platform geared towards an agenda for the people of Lagos Island local government under this dispensation of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration.

In my recent posts on the current situation of the country, I asked, Rosul Eshilokun on a telephone conversation and still ask, why instances of Renewed Hope to a layman on the street of Lagos, he rhetorically responds that rekindle hope of Nigeria for better Nigerians expected simple things: affordable lifestyle, regular electricity, good roads, schools, shelters, hospitals, revamp economy and security which he believes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver; this is Nigeria and looking forward to keying into this in our locality, especially on Lagos Island in the future.

I have no doubt, this government believes democracy is about the people (the demos; the popular masses) and Mr President will continue to work in actualization of the policies that benefit the masses.

On celebrations of this year's anniversary, June 12, worth singsong of joy of an Era of Renewed Hope.
