"I used to be a hairdresser in Ibadan until two years ago when my shop was robbed and all my goods (weaveons, bags, jewelries, powder, makeup and more) were taken away. The incident happened two weeks after I restocked with goods estimated at N140,000 - money I collected from my thrift collector. Although, the whole robbery was suspicious, but I didn’t involve the police because out of no money, they would still extort me and begin picking innocent youths living their own life in the area in the name of investigation. I have no prime suspect, but I know God is aware of all that is happening. I came to Lagos shortly after the incident to hustle until I make enough money to get my shop running again. My family are still in Ibadan. After hustling for a while, I return home periodically to spend time with them." . #MSS: Did you try seeking employment in a salon when you arrived in Lagos? . "You see, it is usually hard for a former boss to become an employee. In this world, it is every man for himself, some bosses are spiritual and can be so insultive. I am pleased with hawking bread compared to working under anybody. Although I am determined to stay till next year to raise what I am looking for, but I believe God can shower his blessings in the twinkle of an eye. When that happens, I will pack my bags and go home to resume my hairdressing business in Ibadan." _ Day 23 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I had no idea whatsoever of transport business when I joined. If I had, I probably would have collected brand new 'keke' (tricycle) on loan like people usually do and paid back before it will start giving me problems. I bought this second-hand keke a year ago and I've suffered for that decision. I bought it with the little money I saved while doing factory work for about 7-8 years before they started dropping staffs due to recession. Immediately it affected me, I knew I had to find something else to do so I can provide for my wife and kid instead of begging people for things. That's how I got to where I am today. Although, I have the knowledge of how to make toiletries and antibacterials but there has been no finance to kick-start because it isn't the type of business you wake up one morning and start production. There are so many steps and procedures involved, including government and health regulations. My plan now is to continue saving through this transport business until I can meet up with the requirements to establish my own factory and start producing. I don't know when that will be, only God can tell." _ Day 22 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I started this phone accessories business four years ago. I was introduced to it by a friend I camped with when I first arrived Lagos from Ebonyi. He was already into the business at the time so he put me through. Before this hustle came my way, life used to be a constant struggle. I used to work like an elephant and eat like an ant, but now I can conveniently support myself. I started with N27,000 and I average between N500 and N700 profit daily which I really appreciate, but I would like more so I can afford a shop and expand. My major challenge in this business is the constant taskforce raids, other than that, this business is very nice. I got my apartment 2 years after I started. I have no intentions of going back home for now, rather, I intend to bring my family to Lagos, and hopefully further my education in Broadcasting, of which I have begun processing." _ Day 20 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"My name is Janet and I've been a full caterer for almost 32 years now. I learned everything about the profession from a woman who was a trained caterer from Germany and after learning for a year, I left to establish my own. I started at my house backyard with baking and was supplying the Nigerian Airways at local airport before the Idiagbon crisis which forced me to withdraw. What I love most about this catering job is that it has connected me a lot. When I started, it was low profile but gradually as God would have it, I met Mrs. Ambode before she became the Governor’s wife, I have been working with them for almost 20 years now. Through this catering profession, I've been well connected with notable personalities like the Fashola's and people from the house of assembly. I really enjoy doing this job but the challenge now is we are now in a new dispensation, 'change'. It has affected us really, that was the reason I came out. I opened this outlet in April because the orders from home have reduced so I decided to come out but I still do my job at home and on weekends. I'm happily married with 7 children, of which 2 are married. Having experienced a lot, my advise to anyone who's just starting out with business is to be patient because if you don’t have patience in business, it’s very easy to fold up. Exercising patience, honesty and endurance will make you great. Whosoever must venture into this business must not be too money conscious. People see this catering job as a way for them to make money, and to be honest, there is money in catering if you know what you are doing, but like I said before, don’t be too money conscious and don’t look down on customers, especially the lower class clientele because their turnout is usually higher than the upper class." - Mrs Janet Davies ~ Day 21 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I'm a fashion designer with at least 8 years experience. Before this trade, I was into so many hustles because there was nobody to guide me. Both my parents died before I clocked age 7. After their demise, us 3 siblings were shared amongst relatives, and such experience can't be compared with living with one's real parents. I was a bricklayer, caterer, and even an Arabic scholar that would pray at events just to make money. Then one day, it hit me that all these wouldn’t pay me because I still had to think of taking care of my future wife and children, so my future became the most important thing. I went to relatives to assist me with money to help my situation but they said they weren’t concerned and so I went to look for a place to learn Tailoring. With time, my boss liked me and asked if I really was interested in the trade and if so, I needed to have a guarantor and my guardian stood in. Soon after, I excused my boss, returned for my freedom and now at 25, I have this shop and an apartment for myself. My advice to fellow youth is to be determined and focused. Live like you have no one because nobody really cares. Also, put God first and everything else will prosper. This profession is my passion. It was my late dad’s profession. It is in my blood because any day I don’t work, I don’t get myself. I’m proud I don’t hang around corners smoking hemp or asking people for money for food. With this trade, I get what I want, when due and I also assist my family, unlike my days as a caterer when me and my colleagues were usually ripped off. I believe I'm going to be successful because I'm not lazy. When the time is right, God will give me the knowledge to take good care of my children and I will tell them the story of how nobody stood for me because whatever I do for them while I’m alive is my gift to them." _ Day 19 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"As a kid, seeing men with welding masks make sparks with their equipment always fascinated me and that gave me an idea of what I wanted to be when I grow up. After I finished Model school in 1970, there was nobody to sponsor me in university to study Engineering so the only option left was for me to embrace my dream profession by learning Welding for five years. I later worked for a construction company until 1995 when I decided it was time for me to be on my own. I've been working independently since then and God has been faithful. I have a wife and four children. Having my own house and poor pricing has been my biggest challenge as people usually don't understand the difference between a blacksmith and welder. God willing, in five years time, I see myself finally owning a house and having many apprentices. It’s clear I am getting old and I would like to do more of supervision work." _ Day 18 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I used to sell provisions until three years ago when local council people came and carted all my goods away because I was selling on the roadside, and I didn't have enough money to rent a shop at the time. I had to find another thing to do to support my husband and family of three children. That's how I started this Akara (bean cake) business. I made more money in the provisions business and it's less stressful than this one. I don't like this akara business I am doing currently but I have handed everything over to God. My biggest regret now is that I didn't learn a vocation when I was much younger. I wanted to learn tailoring after I finished secondary school, but there was no money or support. I still intend to go back to provisions business some day because I know a lot about it already." _ Day 17 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I don't have any story to tell you other than the fact that my debtors aren’t paying. Those that bought mattress haven't paid. I myself am indebted left and right. I just want to pack up and change location. I used to have businesses in Angola, South Africa and Malawi where I spent over 10 years. The xenophobic attacks caused me to move my family back to Nigeria in 2013 after they vandalized all my properties. I escaped with my family empty handed when I saw how Nigerians were being slaughtered in Southern Africa, and as much as I have been struggling to keep the ball rolling ever since, business here has not been moving. We were still managing to survive until 2016 when everything changed drastically. Prices have gone up but salaries haven’t gone up. People now ration their meals. See my friend that just left here? I gave him a sachet of water to download after he complained of being hungry. I believe my current situation is a result of my moving to Nigeria, but then again, I believe in living to fight another day or what does one gain losing his life over material things?" _ Day 16 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I've been a Pipe Fitter for over ten years now but before then I worked as a service boy at different hotels. Initially, I went into pipe fitting for the little change I kept getting but later on, I saw it differently as an independent hustle and took serious interest. Now as an independent hustler with a family, I have the luxury of programming my routine to suit myself. My best life decision yet was when I chose to ditch my university degree and learn a trade because if not for pipefitting, I would still be bowing to a less educated and arrogant rich superior who acquired wealth through illegal means. I believe in hardwork and that the sky is the limit for everyone, but it also depends on your heart desires and God's favor, still everyone should aspire for greatness on their levels. Early proper direction and focus are also important because it wasn't until I had my own kids before I fully understood the concept of mentorship. Growing up in an average home, I never had a mentor. I used to look up to my dad but I didn't know there were things beyond my dad that I should be looking up to. All my father cared about was to see me graduate from the university, which I did. But as an apostle who walks and directs others towards the light, I have put it upon myself to make important life choices for my kids based on my projection of life for them." _ Day 15 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I'm a trained nurse. I trained as an auxiliary nurse and graduated in 2007. I know everything about the profession but I've not been able to establish myself due to lack of funds. I was formerly working in a hospital but I left because the pay was very small. I now sell Mosa which I get from my step-mother in Abeokuta to help raise money to setup my own place. On a good week, I make up to N8,000, but recently, business hasn't been moving well. If this country had proper plans for its citizens, I wouldn’t be hawking. I pray God elevates me fast because I’m tired of this hustle." _ Day 14 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"Having been a Horticulturist for over 8 years, I have noticed this wrong perception of we flower growers as hungry and desperate people. Some even go as far as dashing us money when they pass by, thinking we are beggars, but they are very wrong because I make good money from this business, enough to make me reject a 100k job. I make more than 100k when I get good contracts to beautify people's homes or sell flower pots in bulk. We are just like regular poultry farmers who nurture eggs into birds. This business has brought about huge improvements in my life, as I'm now married, own a house of my own, and I'm taking care of my family of 3 children. Education is an important factor in every field and because I'm not educated, I am determined to give my children the best because, even in this profession, it is the educated ones that get the better contracts and benefits." _ Day 13 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I started selling books and newspapers in 2014, mainly because they work hand in hand as pathways to wisdom, knowledge and ideas, but nowadays, only people who really know the value buy books at whatever cost. I've been having it rough since this new administration. When Goodluck was president, the least I made in a day was N15k, but today I make less than N3,500 a day. I'm not happy, but I don't let that weigh me down. Although people are hungry, but there are still people who can spend their whole day reading without eating, I am an example. I read a lot because I believe so much in wisdom. Wisdom is life. I have my personal library of life-changing books which I want my children to read and practice when they grow up so they can have a brighter future and do things I've not been able to do in my lifetime. I started this business two years after my NYSC as a result of unemployment. I had to move from my base in Ebonyi to Lagos in search of greener pastures. My capital was N20,000 and I shared with a friend for about a year. But today, I'm thankful because I have an apartment of my own here in Lagos, built a house of my own in my home town and a family of 2 kids which I cater for." _ Day 12 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"Five years ago, before I ventured into the business of selling eggs, I was into making of drums, using factory waste products. Yoruba's call it 'ajagbandu'. Then everything changed when my husband fell seriously ill. I had to spend all my savings from the business on his hospital bills so he could be well again. After his recovery, he completed the house he had been building before the illness and was set to move in without me and our 3 kids. I begged him to allow us join him, but he refused. He never told me what I did wrong. He just decided to move into the new house with a new wife. This was really hard to accept, but I eventually accepted the reality and focused on taking care of my children. The struggles of a single mother have seen me take loans to cater for my children and their education. But I'm happy and thankful to God because we have been surviving even without a husband/father figure. Two of my children are curently in university while the third is in a private secondary school. My older two girls in university are well behaved, but I'm praying God touches the heart of my only son whose behavior is becoming worrisome." _ Day 11 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"My name is Felix and this is my third year in accessories business. I moved to Lagos last year after I finished secondary school and I’ve been managing this hustle to save up for university. As soon as I raise N200k, I will go back to Ebonyi state, begin the registration process and keep returning to Lagos during the holidays to hustle for the next semester because there is really nobody to assist. I’m currently living with someone in the 'ocean of the earth', awaiting God’s will and blessings. I started this business while in secondary school on a small scale with N36k but a bigger scale might cost up to N800k." _ Day 10 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I come from a poor family. Okay let me say average family because there's really no poor family. I graduated late from secondary school in 2008 and I was unable to further my education because there was no sponsor. Not that my family didn't want to help, they just did not have the capacity. I had to work in Chinese factories like Wahum to earn a living and save up for university, but it didn't go smoothly because the money I was being paid was little, compared to the daily stress. So one day in 2015, my uncle sat me down and adviced me to learn a skill. I was already a grown man at the time so I didn't want to learn a skill that will take me 5-6 years so I settled for phone engineering which took me a year to learn. That has been my best move so far because now I live in an apartment of my own and I'm running a degree course in National Open University. I'm currently engaged and I've already programmed my life that I will graduate in year 2020, get married and leave the country to join my sister who is now based in the US." _ Day 9 of 30. A Story By Obasa Olatunbosun Note: 1. Its just a wild imaginative story with no scientific or religious backing. 2. Adult content. If there was an SNLV indicator, this would be SN x 10 ---- Brother James was enjoying a tryst with Sis Judith of the Good Women Group of their church when he felt something grab his penis. He tried to drag it out but all his efforts turned out to be futile. Brother James was a twenty-seven-year-old Keke Napep rider who was an active church goer but did not belong to any group in church with his excuse being; "my work is always tasking and I have responsibilities to take care of." What nobody knew was that "Brother James was a playboy that bedded any thing that resembled a hole in a skirt and swung its backside. He had slept with almost all the ladies in the church and the married women that still had good looks were not left out. Truth be told, Brother James was good looking. He had a handsome face, beautiful light skin, a muscular build and a great sense of humour. His friends used to taunt him that he could charm his way into Mother Theresa's loins. Sister Judith on the other hand was a very homely woman of about thirty-five years of age. She had four kids with her firstborn about fifteen years old. She was inexperienced in the art of sex until she met the man who would eventually be her baby daddy as there was no formal union between them as she got pregnant for him after her first time tasting the forbidden fruit. With the number of children she had birthed, she still maintained a very beautiful body and a very trimmed shape. What her "husband" did not realise was that he should have left her a virgin but on breaking the seal, he freed a monster that could only be placated by endless sessions of sex. He enjoyed it at first but along the line, he grew tired to the extent that he would skip coming back home at night because he knew he did not have enough strength to match her hunger. Sister Judith became really active in church but her sex life did not wane. She used to find comfort in the arms of her former pastor until he died of stroke. She passed over Brother James's advances because she felt he was inexperienced until she overheard two choristers discussing his prowess in bed. She called him up one night and went straight to the point "James, do you think you can satisfy me?" "Sister Judith, I do not do the talking, junior does." Their first three trysts ended with Sister Judith conceding defeat then she tried gaining ground but she could only break even. She snuck out of the house at every chance she got to meet her cornucopia of good sex and Brother James never disappointed her. On this fateful day, her husband went on a business trip so she spiked her drink with aphrodisiac before going for their usual tryst. They had gone on for hours then suddenly the hard rod got stuck. They tried in futility to break free of each other and the fees they paid for the guest room was running out. It eventually ran out and the a member of the hotel staff came to bang on the door to the room they paid for but they could only hear grunts and moans so they figured it must still be the pleasure that was still flowing. The worker called others and they placed their ears to the door eavesdropping on what was transpiring in the room. Suddenly there was a loud shout; it was Sister Judith's voice emphatically crying for help. The hotel workers scampered back to their workstations while the receptionist was saddled with the responsibility to call the attention of the manager to the scenario on ground. He barged into the manager's office without knocking but what he saw in there knocked the air out of his windbad. Idayat, a kitchen staff who he had fallen in love with was topless and braless on the table with her skirt rolled up above her buttocks while the manager was panting and sweating and it was obvious that he was still in her. This was the same Idayat that he had given half his salary to for six months despite the fact that she earned more than he did. "What is your problem, how manybtimes have I told you not to barge into my office again?" "I'm sorry sir..... Emergency..... Room 29." Immediately, the manager unmounted Idayat and the receptionist could see why she preffered the Manager to him. They ran to room 29 after pounding on the door severally and there was no response, the manager used a key from the bunch he carried around to open the door. They saw both partners still conjoined but they had covered themselves with a bedsheet. They moved them outside and then to a babalawo. The babalawo asked the other parties to stay outside while he did what he could do. He put two pieces of alligator pepper in his mouth, chewed them, turned a mouthful of schnapps, gargled it then spat the whole thing on the spot of conjoining while he recited incantations. Sister Judith screamed out loud as a result of the burning sensation the alligator pepper gave her. Eventually, he were unsuccessful with his operations. They were moved to a church, coincidentally, they were having a deliverance program. On seeing what was coming, the pastor excused his wife and himself along with Sister Ruth to attend to the special case in the "power room". The pastor asked that the bedsheet be removed from them so he could channel his power where it should be but he didn't bargain for what he saw next. He saw a cleanly shaved pubic region and he could feel a warm sliver in his suit trousers and he imagined the forest that his wife carried in her own nether region and the view alone turned him off. Due to her cantankerous nature, he could not suggest that she shaved it because it would cause another tirade and she would accuse him of sleeping with younger girls who shaved theirs and that was why he no longer found hers appealing. She would be right on all count but that was not his main concern at the moment. What he was concerned about was getting down with this fair woman with two pairs of pink lips. What was going on through the Pastor's wife's mind was something else. She could see the width of the man trapped inside Sis Judith and she imagined having him inside her for just one night and she would die in peace. They started praying but they had one eye on the point of conjoining. Sister Ruth's mind flashed back to the pinky sized manhood that her husband carried about but made up for in beating her whenever she erred. She could not cheat and she always blamed herself. After spending all her years in school jumping from one man to another, she had to settle for the guy that would buy her bullshit of no sex before marriage. She was all smiles during the wedding but the universe played a fast one on her by giving her a carrot to fill her pumpkin sized hole. They prayed and prayed but there was no demon to be cast out. The pastor had thought that this was his opportunity to hug the limelight but it was not, it was just a reality check for the three of them and the image they saw that day did not leave them for quite some time. Eventually, they were taken to the hospital where the doctor gave Sister Judith a muscle relaxant injection and seconds later, Brother James's penis fell out without further stress.

"My name is Oshodi Rashidat while the name of my outfit is Lady Rashisco Cobbler. I grew up in Ajegunle and I've been in the shoemaking business for up to 10 years. I used to be a palm oil trader but later realized the need to learn a vocation which prompted me to join the shoes trade and because I've always wanted to do something different from other females, I learned to make men’s shoes. Handwork usually doesn’t require much capital so I learnt the trade for 3 years, not including the 10 years I've been my own boss. I've been coping well, considering it’s a male dominated trade, but many people admire that fact and like me even more, especially my customers. My husband has been supportive and I'm happy I can assist in providing for our family of 3 children. Although my husband is a civil servant but I don't rely on him. I get things done in the house without waiting for him to drop money. Although no car or house yet but we are comfortable. I like everything about this business, even my children come to assist and learn after school hours, I teach them so that when they get to university, they won't need to wait for me to send money or depend on boyfriend before they can buy things. My big plan now is to start bringing in shoe materials from Aba and sell to cobblers around, since I don't have money to travel abroad yet. From there, I hope to make enough money to open a shoe making company, employ staffs, train them and begin mass production." _ Day 8 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"Right from childhood, I have always wanted to be an educated business man. But when my parents died, I knew education was going to be difficult. I lost my dad when I was 4 years old and by 12, my mother was gone too. I lived with my aunt till I completed secondary school, then I left to find my way. I learned boutique business for 3 years but I've not been able to establish myself properly. It's the little money (tips) from customers I saved while learning that I used in starting here. My girlfriend who I intend to marry also assisted me financially. I tell whoever cares to listen that if your parents don’t have money, just fix yourself somewhere and believe from there, you will be somebody. That is my story and although the money is not rolling in yet, I thank God for where I am today. I still have dreams of becoming a big business man and I hope God will see me through." _ Day 7 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"I am 17 years old and Yoghurt is my hustle for now. I learned Barbing profession while in secondary school back home in Osun state, but I have been in Lagos since last December, hustling for money for freedom. My family does not have much and I didn't want to wait for them so I decided to fend for myself. I came to Lagos with a friend who was already into the business and we both live inside the ice cream company. Out of N50k which my Oga requested for, I've gathered N30k. I will return home after Ileya celebration when the money is complete." . MSS: Do you have plans to further your education beyond secondary school? . "No I don't intend to further school. I already have a skill (Barbing) that I can make money from. I see school as liability. It will not give me money, it will only collect the little I have." _ Day 6 of 30. #MySplufikStory

"Unlike some sellers, all my fruits are from South Africa, so no risk of adulterated or substandard produce. Most sellers get their stock from China, and over there, they ordinarily grow for their own consumption. It is the excess or substandard remnants that fellow Nigerians pick, package and ship back home. Nowadays people spray tint apples to make it top red. Although God is watching but still, be careful so you don't buy yourself poison. That's why I tell people not to bicker when it comes to paying for quality produce. For example, if exposed to heat during transit, the fruits begin to spoil but some Nigerians will still polish them using tissue paper and sell them at extremely low wholesale/ retail prices to those who sell on express/ highways. I was formerly based in Oyo, where I used to control hundreds of thousands Naira in egg shipment business from Oyo to the North. I had to stop and relocate to Lagos after my wedding because the travels would constantly keep me from my husband, which I don't think is proper." _ Day 5 of 30. MySplufikStory

#MySplufikStory "Newspaper selling business isn't what it used to be. When I started in 1966, after the first military coup in Nigeria, I used to have many customers including ministries and companies that I supply papers. But now when I show up with newspapers, they say they have already read news on their phones. I used to make more than 100 supplies in a day but now I have less than 5, which doesn’t even cover my transport fare. I am just managing. Because of internet, many of the people I usually supply have stopped their subscription. I’m just waiting for some money from my son abroad so I can settle my debts at the office and then stop the business because it is not paying me. Although the business has helped me a lot in the past when it was booming; I married, had children and maintained my family but it is not so anymore. Once my son sends the money, I will either set up a business or go back to my hometown in Imo State to resume farming." _ #Documentary #EverydayNigerians -

"I've been into this 'Baba Ijebu' business for the past 10 years. I make at least N4,000 per day. I cater for my wife and 3 kids with it and I recently bought a piece of land from my personal winnings. The highest winner in my shop won N780k and went to build house with the money. He still calls me till today to thank me. I want my son to be a Lawyer so he can have connections with big big politicians. I cannot advice my children to play this lotto game because it is a game of patience, luck and it can be addictive. If they insist, I will sit them down and give them orientation. One can play from January to December and not win 1 kobo, while another person can play from Monday to Wednesday and win big. It's all about how well you can 'shine your eyes'." _ #Documentary
