Christianity EtcRe: What Has Nigerian Pastors Done Since The Lagos Plane Crash Happened? by dekung(m): 12:31pm On Jun 11, 2012
They are strategizing. What they are doing is check if any of their main members were in the crash, if not they claim God is very faithful to their ministry hence a place to be. Then they go ahead to call for seed for safety. Sow a seed that will challenge God or make a God a challenging seed promise so that God will protect till you bring the gift. After gathering the money, they send their kids to the best schools abroad and they procure a private jet for themselves.
Sounds like a good strategy to me.
Christianity EtcRe: Christianity For Christians. by dekung(m): 11:05pm On Jun 10, 2012
While it is true that there is no christian section on NL, I believe there is a thread opened for them to air their Godly view. The thread is always on front page and I dont think I have ever visited that thread like I have never visited the Islamic thread. Talking about people that are insultive and uncouth, I think honour should be given to two people Davidylan and Vedaxcool. Davidylan cannot make a sentence without issuing at least 3 insulting words and aam not sure MODs have ever banned, warned or deleted any of his posts. Logicboy challenged Jesoul on this and am surprised she hasnt responded. In my opinion I think the forum should be merged into a single forum. Because once Seun starts creating section then there would be need for subsection just like Lagosshia is asking for different sub sections for Suni, shia etc. Christian to would start requesting baptist section, anglical section, Daystar section etc

Lets see how he would boast after the determination of the case. I just hope the girl is safe but if anything should happen to the girl, Oyedepo should be chaarged for murder. Christianity EtcRe: Christians Should Pray For GEJ - Place All Your Prayers Here For The President by dekung(m): 5:35pm On Jun 05, 2012
Evil Brain: You guys should keep wasting your time kneeling down and flapping your lips. After all we can all see how well that has worked in the past few decades. Maybe we should all ask Santa Claus to bring us some less corrupt leaders while we're at it.

There is nothing the criminals ruling us will like more than for Nigerians to keep wastimg our time with this useless prayer cräp instead of hitting the streets, courts and trenches to force the necessary change.

Two hands working are better than a thousand clasped in prayer.
You have said it all. Praying is more like sitting on a rocking chair, it gives you something to keep you busy but gets you nowhere. I cant begin to count the number of crusades and prayers for the nation that have been organised in Nigeria, yet this is what we get. The only thing that works anywhere is to do the right thing all the time and when someone steps out of line mete the appropriate punishment. Until we start holding ourselves and our leaders (wether religious, political, community or household) we will only be walking on a treadmill. Lots of activity but no movement. If we continue to call on God for everything we will continue to get the silent treatment for everything. Sensible societies dont go arround praying when calamities strike, they get down to work. Prayers hve never worked and like you rightly said, Evil Brain, two hands working is better than 30million clasped in prayer. Am saying this because on that June 03 Flight there were two pastors, one from TREM and one from House on The Rock. The question then is, didnt they pray before they left Abuja that fateful day? You guess is as good as mine.

Christianity EtcRe: Oyedepo Slaps-Giving: Court Urged To Dismiss Case by dekung(m): 5:07pm On May 26, 2012
To imagine what length people will go to frustrate hence subverting the course of Justice. Oyedepo wants to be right at all cost irrespective of what the law of the land says. So once you are in the church premises all your rights as a human and citizen of a country becomes subjugated to the pastor's whims and caprices. What a country! Even if he was following Jesus' example, how many witches did Jesus assault? Jesus, according to the Bible, whipped people who were selling in the temple, they were committing physical crimes of ripping people off by selling at exorbitant prices, while also gambling and doing other businesses within the temple's premises. He used physicl means to deal with a physical issues and spritual to deal with spiritual issue. Oyedepo on the other hand is using panadol to cure food poisoning. Ode!
Christianity EtcRe: Oyedepo Slaps-Giving: Court Urged To Dismiss Case by dekung(m): 4:39pm On May 26, 2012
If Oyedepo's counsel believes that whatever happens in a church premises is none of Nigeria's business then the judge can rule in favour of the girl then this can be used in subsequent similar cases as judicial precedence. Thankfuly, Nigerian Law is not static like the Biblical laws. Oyedepo's counsel must have failed out of law school for him to have made such stewpid submission if these guys were the one representing Ibori in the UK court, they would have told the court that it had no jurisdiction to hear the suit and besides Ibori was the Governor and whatever he did in the govt house must be legal. I can't imagine how silly some people could be just to extort money from their legally illitrate (Oyedepo) clients

I am kind of wondering at the striking similarity between this case and several cases of thieving politicians brot against them by the anti corruption agencies. Rather than contend with the matter at hand and challenging Oyedepo and his counsel are busy challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter. They are trying to use delay tactics to frustrate the judicial process. I am not suprised though, Oyedepo is a crook so he will employ all means possible to frustrate court process. Why not argue his culpability and check wether he is guilty of assault or not? He is trying really hard to wriggle out of this, sorry ooo Oledepo, this time you will pay.

Adeboye: The church and Nigeria
MAY 20, 2012 BY DELE AKINOLA 6 COMMENTS
“There’s no stopping me until I have put a church
within five minutes of everyman’s reach.”
That powerful ministration was credited, in a
newspaper interview of March 4, 2012, to the
immensely revered General Overseer of the Redeemed
Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare
Adeboye. It was in commemoration of his 70th
birthday anniversary, which recently made waves in
Nigeria and elsewhere on the globe.
Deservedly so! Adeboye is generally regarded within
and outside the body of Christ as a true man of God,
questioned only by a few. In a perverse world where
many who are supposed to be men of God have
metamorphosed into gods of men, this is no mean
accolade and credentials. More significantly, he
reserves the divine grace of heading perhaps the
largest church in Nigeria, and one of the fastest
growing churches in the world.
On Sunday, April 22, 2012, according to media reports,
he was, hosted to a day of tributes tagged: “This is
your Life” by inter-faith groups from Israel, Korea,
Indonesia, Austria, the United Kingdom, the United
States and Nigeria, to mark the birthday anniversary
in London. This, beyond doubt, highlighted the
immense popularity, acceptability, religious aura and,
most significantly, the spiritual influence he commands
and the recognition of the unsurpassed successes he
has accomplished.
However, in his efforts to have a church within five
minutes of everyman’s reach, Adeboye inadvertently
said he was not even aware of how much success, in
conjunction with others, he had accomplished already
in that respect. There are already as many as five
churches within five minutes of everyman’s reach,
especially in the southern parts of the country. They
may not all be RCCG parishes, but Daddy’s church
stands out as the undisputed largest single
contributor. On the shortest close in the
neighbourhood, there are only two dwelling houses
but three churches. Along the longest road in the city,
there are scores of churches, but no libraries.
The PUNCH of Friday, April 20, 2012, in its back page
photo story Expression, presented the nauseating
sight of a dilapidated Eket Divisional Library, serving
12 local government areas in Eket Senatorial District
in Akwa Ibom State, taken the previous day. The
number of churches in that same senatorial district
alone, I suspect, would dwarf that in the entire entity
of any of the most-developed economies of the world.
Technologically super-advanced Japan and its people
are not necessarily less spiritual than ultra-religious
but corruption-riddled third fastest-groaning (fastest-
growing?) economy in the world.
The major, or perhaps the only cause of the “weeping
and wailing and mourning and gnashing of teeth,” as
the old Reggae music group, Mighty Diamonds,
chorused, of the largest black people on earth is not
dearth of churches to sustain our romantic penchant
for mere religious showmanship. It is, as the rest of
the world rues, criminal godlessness manifesting,
principally, in heart-rending corruption. The prowling
canker, which Mallam Nuhu Ribadu would describe as
Nigeria’s own terrorism and terminal disease, has
now evolved from the HIV state into full-blown AIDS,
with no cure in sight.
Little wonder our brutally raped and impoverished
country exports to the world numerous stinking rich
swaggering rakes, most of whom are rampaging
criminals masquerading as civil servants and public
office holders. Much revered Pastor Adeboye, I
believe, would be appalled by the mind-boggling
revelations coming from the ongoing fuel subsidy,
pension fund and capital market probes. He would
also be jolted by the argument that most of Nigeria’s
out-numbered godly men of conscience are, like the
late Dr. Tai Solarin, those who profess no faiths.
Several years ago, one comic news magazine
columnist described the church or mosque as a place
where people go to ask for God’s permission to
commit more sins. A good number of those men and
women in the evil cabal of ghost importers and
briefcase marketers running the system aground are
deacons, deaconesses, leaders and elders in our
numerous churches. Many members of the pension
office cult group of blood-drenched multi-billionaire
pen robbers also most probably are. Newspaper
pages sometimes steam with stories about high-
profile unknown entities rushing to churches,
mountains and crusades in desperate attempts to
assassinate justice.
Gitto Construzioni Generalli, the Italian construction
firm working in the country which made headline
news recently, knew the terrain pretty well. That’s
why it would rather donate the renovation of a church
in Otuoke, hometown of President Goodluck
Jonathan, in the “discharge of its corporate social
responsibility.”
In its native Italy, it would have been a medical,
educational or vocational facility, an employment-
generating venture or an enterprise to boost the petty
occupation of the local population. No wonder our
teeming teenagers and their elder brothers could
easily access five churches within five minutes of
leaving home, but could not conjure a mere pass in
WAEC and NECO exams in five attempts.
Adeboye, at the London event, was reported to have
proffered that religious leaders needed to come
together to speak against global violence, including
the use of religion to perpetrate evil, in order to
achieve peace in the world. He also said although
God had assigned him to preach His word in all
nations, he believed “a bigger part of the assignment
is beginning to surface.”
That bigger assignment, now, as Daddy himself
deposed, is to speak against violence in his nation,
Nigeria. The deadliest national violence in the country
today is the violence of earth-shaking corruption in

2. In manilla, Phillipines, people are so poor they litrally eat from the dustbin salvaging leftover foods so their families could feed. This problem is further compounded by uncontrolled births. A family may have as many as 10 children or even more because birth control is a taboo impossed by the church of the phillipines. In fact maternity homes are so congested, three to four women had to share a single bed. The govt of Phillipines is trying to pass a legislation to allow couples use co.ndo.ms and other birth control methods to stem this exponential rise in population but it has d church to contend with. The church rather have couple to surfer nerve wrecking poverty or sex deprivation because to them, it is against the will of God to use birth control.
3. The church is currently fighting another battle against the world goverment. The is a discussion presently that will allow people who are surfering from painful terminal degenerative diseases to be put to sleep (aided death). The church is fighting this tooth and nail calling it suicide. The church would rather that these that these people suffer the pain till they die rather being allowed to die earlier.
3. I once saw a documentary where a surgeon successfully did a head transplant between two monkeys but the project was halted later because the religious body would have non of it.
4. A religious group would not accept blood transfusion because to them it is against God's will. Imagine the number of innocent lives that had probably been lost because their parents belonged?
Religious people here would always say scientists cannot creat life but how mluch has religion given science a free hand to operate. Several brilliant people's lives have been cut short because they were described as heretics.
Christianity EtcRe: Reason Behind The Fall Into Atheism by dekung(m): 10:57am On May 20, 2012
On a more serious not guys, I think Alexleo needs some truths about the real reason people fall into atheism.
@OP,
Atheists are not the supposed lzy people you spoke about who fall into the hands of wrong pastors who teach them the diluted word of God, No. They are rather people who have both the mental and physical courage to challenge the dogma fed to them since childhood. They are people who are hard working enough to go into Indepth research into the origins of what is being taught. You assertions could have been partially correct if you localised the reason to Nigeria because your position implies that all athiests were formally christians. The atheistic/gnostic positions stem from the fact that people have realised that wether or not you believe in God, What will be will be. I have seen unbelievers and believers alike live fulfilled lives and I have also seen believers and non believers too who lives lives that need a lot of help. I then ask myself the question what really does anyone need God for apart from the promise of heaven or hell which no one has any proof of? Whether or not there is belief in God, good people will still be good and bad people will still be bad. Listen guy, religion stands in the way of human development because some things defy acceptable religios limits. You need to step out of belief in God in order to appreciate these things. I will give you a few examples.
1. In the early 40s several children were surfering from a condition called the tetralogy of Fallous which was termed the blue baby syndrome. The only way to correct this was to perform open heart surgery on these innocent beings. The church fought against this because according to them, it was the will of God that these children have this conditions. Alfred Blalock, assisted by his an african american lab technicians, Vivien Thomas shunned the religious and medical societies and performed the first open heart surgery successfully......
Christianity EtcRe: How Will Hellfire Burn The Damned, Christians? by dekung(m): 7:44pm On May 19, 2012
alexleo: yeah its foolishness for us to think that God who created the body and the spirit has no power to create fire that can burn the spirit. Lets not allow foolish reasoning to limit God's power. Using the fire that burns the human body to compare to that of the spirit man is a height of foolishness. For example, the fire that burns a firewood which is ordinary fire cannot melt an iron. Yet there is heat of fire that burns iron. The heat is not the same as that of wood. If human could be creative enough to develop this things is it God the creator that we ll now begin to think that he wont be creative enough create a fire that can torment the soul which is the spirit man? He has said it in the scriptures and its true. Wether anybody believes it or not is immaterial because those who have died without Christ are there now burning. God has given some people the privillege of seeing these things and coming back to life to testify of its reality. Again wether you people want to believe it or not doesnt change anything rather when you die you ll find that its true but too late for you. May God help you.
Apologetics!!!!!! So there are diferent kinds of fire? lmfao

@Italo,
hmmm! I like your argument but I unfortunately do not sense so much honesty in it. Science tells me if I jump from the rooftop I must hit the ground, science taught me about force and other phenomenon which are testable. Science taught about energy, waves and the totality of how nature functions. Religion on the other hand tells me about spirits, heaven, hell, angels, God, Demons, curses and a load of other things that cannot be hernessed, tested and used by just anyone. I am sure you are typing with an electronic gadget and you make phone calls everyday. I dont need to tell to have faith or carry out some tasks before thee things could wrk, just follow simple testable instructions and vwualla, ur gadgets are working. Tell me honestly, how many people pray with all their hearts yet never get answers. Now compared that to how many people make phone calls per day and do not get expected service. You talked about dreams, thoughts and emotions. All these phenomenon are all functions of what goes on in ur brain. If science eventually perfects the art of brain transplant (if the church will allow it) and our brains are swapped, u wld start to reason like me. While you cannot measure thots and emotions the results of these phenomenon can be seen. We may not be able to see evolution in full bloom because it takes a very loooooong time to pull through, we can still see micro evolution like the ones I described above. Even as an agnost, I never believd in evo, but after taking a cusory look at nature and its diversity, I couldnt help but agree with the promoters of evo

All these things you mentioned are not 100% certain. "Germ theory", "gravity"... They might be true...or FALSE.

Which of these things have you seen and touched before?
....erhm sir, you cannot touch gravity but you feel the effects everytime. Anytime you stand and do not fly off, that is gravity. Everytime that plate drops from you hand and it hits the ground, that is gravity. Everytime you lay on your bed and do not float away, that is gravity. You may choose to call it another name but that does not change the overwhelming effects of the phenomenon.

...how many believers here would agree to flown by a man who claims he was taught by the Holy Spirit the art flying planes? Am sure any right thinking person would rather fly in trained pilot's plane who went to aviation school and did all the physical and scientific training, another question is how many would fly in plane built by religious leaders who have no training in the science of aviation? Lets not fool ourselves here, science makes predictions and guesses but it also goes ahead to test its position empirically. Science does not rely on blind faith in everything like most of us do not on certain things. In 1943, Alfred Blalock was accused of sacriledge when he wanted to perform the first ever open heart surgery in a human baby. His exact words to the priest who confronted him was 'God wants to kill this child but I am going to save her life'. He went ahead and performed the surgery despite severe warnings from both the religious and the medical community in the US then. As we speak today doctors in the US perform more than 2million open heart surgeries yearly saving millions of lives that would have otherwise been killed.
Science has saved more people's lives in recent history than religion can ever do in eternity
Christianity EtcRe: Discussion Between Professor And Student About God, Faith And Science. by dekung(m): 8:57am On May 18, 2012
Well, while I hate to engage people in argument, I would love to posit the with the arguments on evolution and scientific guesses with the following questions:
1. What is the cause of Sickle Cell in humans?
2. What cuases pathogenic bacteria and germs to develop resistance to certain drugs over time?
3. Why do foetus of all primates, humans inclusive, have furry coating on their skins but humans shed theirs before birth?
4. How come all primates have appendix but is very well enlarged in other plant eating or foraging primates but significantly shrunk in humans?
I would also like to say here for all opponents of evolution that the Bible actually silently proposed evo. Why? If for the sake of argument I choose to believe the creation story, we were told that God created only Adam and Even. While we were not told the actual race of people that God created, were can see today that the humans have evolved into several races with distinct features. This same argument goes for other animals like the bears, canine, feline, reptile etc. Religion/christianity began the theory of human evolution from Adam, Science on the other hand takes it much further than Adam.
@OP, the story you posted up there is very old has been debunked as a hoax because that conversation never took place.
@italo, while it is true that just because you cannot feel, touch or sense something does not neccessaarily negate its existence but once it has been known or argued to exist then it must be provable and measurable and usable. You cant see, touch or feel electromagnetic waves with you physical senses but once it was discovered, it had been simulated (proved), measured and used for d benefit of all. The God theory on the other hand has not been proven or measures empirically by diverse groups, only religious and faith based groups have claimed beyond doubts that the entity exists. Some claim here that science is also faith based, I will beg to disagree. Faith say 'Believing is seeing', Science says 'seeing is believing'.

Christianity EtcRe: Is Time Endless? by dekung(m): 6:39pm On May 13, 2012
Time is can be said to be endless because time is a concept that defines the measure of interval between two events. If I lift my hand and put it down, the measure of the interval between lifting my hands and putting it down is time. Just like the numerals, they tend to infinity in both directions so numbers do not have a beggining neither do they have an end. Now for the folks who claimed that time does not exist in the spiritual world, I will beg to differ. While I do not believe in the existence of the spirirual world I will, for the sake of arguments, assume the world exists and is ruled by the supreme entity called God. Now using my definition of time which I culled from elimentary physics, if God summons on of his angels and gives them instruction(s), there must be an interval, however minute, between the summon, delivery of instruction and departure of that angel. Hence, time can only end when there is no event taking place wether in the spiritual or physical realm.

Does being a christian mean you will make better decision? Please Ola should go and sit down and keep his religious convictions and bias to himself.
@Martian, I am an agnost because I do not believe in absolutes but on probabilities. For anything I try to belive or affirm, I leave at least a 5% margin of error. Even science doesnt claim to have all the answers per time because findings change and what we think is true today may not be totally true in the near future and this is why I jettisoned christianity because of its claims on absolutes. I believe there could be a possibility of a creator(s) but I dont think that creator is the abrahamic God. That God is a figment of some prehistoric normad's immagination. Sometimes when I hear these christians speak they make me laugh with their unsubstantiated claims

Why not allow Americans who he is Presiding over to complain about his religious affiliation? It may be true that he claimed being a christian when he was campaigning but you and I know that the only thing that is constant is change. He may have re-assessed his belief system, for example, as at the time Obama was campaigning I was a christian but as we speak now Am an agnost with a strong tilt towrds being an atheist. Am not an atheist because I dont believe in absolutes but probabilities. The question we should be asking is that is he doing the job he went to the Oval office to do? Castigate him based on his campaign promises not on wether he believes in events he was never a witness to. Event meaning the existence, death and resurection of Jesus.

If foolishness means I should not assault an unharmed minor irrespective of what she calls herself, especially when there is no obvious physical harm to me or any other individual arround, I think I would rather be foolish.

Oyedepo ran foul to the laws of the land and thus should be made to pay. Even the bible he preaches from says we should obey the law. He has sinned against God and has sinned against the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. If God likes, He can leave him alone but the rule of Law must take its course in Nigeria. we are not judging him based on what Oyedepo did against God, but what he did against Nigeria.
