NO. I can't. My stand as being non-religious has been made known to everyone close to me and they have tried to preach to me. The good thing is that a lot of them, especialy those that Matter, still love me as their friend, brother, son, husband and father. I cannot change back to religion now because I know so much about the lies and inconsistency of religion that going back will be plain stupid. |
lilcutie8916: Ok where do i start . If for example u see a statue that is like a hundred years old first thing that come to ur mind is some dude carved this right. When archeologists find a triangular shaped rock with some chipings on it they say man made it as a spear head. Ok look at the brains u use in debunking ur selves and u tell me that it evolved by chance and it wasn't designed.A stalagmite and stalagcite it a cavern were also made by a supreme designer? You claim our world is in perfect harmony yet volcanoes erupt killing millions and destroying properties worth more. Is that what you call perfect harmony. If you find it hard understanding the big bang theory how come you dont have no problems understanding and accepting volcanic eruptions and earth quake as simple natural phenomena. Must every argument of origin end with God did it? So many of us atheist/agnost had religious up bringing until we chose to put our minds to work and ask important questions. Listen there is no need to try to prove God from past or historical evidence, lets prove him/her/it with current evidence. If God truly exists or is the way/personalty in which you books describe him then he should perform acts only a God should be able to perform liking having a severed linmb grow back or an attrophied limb of a cripple develop strenght or better still make Cobhams regain his sight |
frankmoney: I have read alot of publications and articles about the so called illuminati or new world order, they believe that in this world there are only 3 kinds of people , 'Those who set the rules , those who follow them without asking and those who dnt do both and are hated by the other two , i want you all to drop your commentsThe description you gave to Illuminati sounds like something that would fit the monotheistic religios sect viz Islam, Christianity and Judaism. The religious leaders (Canon, Pope, Imams, Daddy GO, Papa Oyedepo, Rabbi) set the rules to of the game, Christians, muslims ....... etc follow these rules without asking questions (they taake it by faith). The third group cut accross themselve thats why they hate each others' guts: Christians believe Jesus is their savior, muslims say no, mohammed is the messenger of God and the people in Judaism think the other two are disillusional. We atheists/agnosts just stand at a comfortable and watch them display their folly laughing at them while the hate each other and us too |
Niflheim: of course alot of people will be interested in it?we used to do these debates at unilag,i remember the day 7 christian boys tried to beat me up with 2 christian sisters encouraging them, for a statement i made about the bible, they said i should bring evidence from the bible, and i showed them and they all left one by one,sad and confused!!!What statement did you make and where in the bible did you show them the evidence they were looking for? |
I would love to see that debate however you will need heavy security presence cos you dont know what these christians could do in the face of defeat |
Uyi Iredia: The only ignoramus here is you. So how can something come from nothing ? How ?If something cannot come from nothing then what did God come from? Nothing or He just existed all by himself? If you can believe that God existed by himself out of nothing then why is it hard to believe the Universe probably existed by itself |
I think I understand what the OP is trying to convey to theists, the monotheistic religions have perpetrated so much problems in this world nothing else could match it. These attrocities ranging from genocide to large scale fraud, rape, sexual perverseness, murder and any other vice you can think of that it begs the question: If God is as powerful as is claimed to be does he need to be defended? If God is all powerful he doesnt need human to defend him, there wont be need for the inquisition, jihad, honour killing or begging you congregation to contribute money for crusades. If he is powerful enough to create a universe that is 15 billion light years across why would he need people/humans to defend his cause. I honestly think these monotheits are the ones insulting God if truly he exists in the way they have described him. They say he is omnipotent yet he needs humans to help destroy him opponents. They say he is omniscient yet He did not know when Adam sinned or was going to sin, He did not know Lucifer was going to rebel against him when went ahead to creat him(lucifer), He is all powerful yet he couldnt create a perfect world and had to press reset button several times and still we still have a terrible world. He is God all by himself yet He still needs people to remind him that he is God by worshipping him and praising him. Am sure this God has some kind of complex or ego issues |
@sbm4real, Conscience and the concept of right or wrong has nothing to do with the existence of god, absolutely nothing. Rather they are functions of your cultural upbring as well as the environment in which you were raised. In some cultures if women go arround bare chested or have more than one husband it is a taboo however such things are normal everyday occurence in others. If you were a muslim and you mistakenly ate pork you would feel you have committed a sacriledge but if you were a christian you wont even think twice. In some cultures a married woman can elope with another man if she isnt happy with her current husband whereas it strictly forbiden in others. You conscience will only prick because of preconcievd ideas of what is right and what is not and whenever you cross the line you feel bad that you have done something wrong. |
@Mr_Anony, My own answer is no. I will not subject myself to that deity even if proven that it exists the same way I did not subject myself to the worship of Ogun, Sango, Oya, Osun, Amadioha....etc when I was a christian despite thinking the aabove named Yoruba deities were powerful. |
Billyonaire: This honorable religion Section of the forum is yet to solve the exploits of Jesus, the great Christ between Age 13-29; Does this mean the 13-29 Episode in Jesus' Life is a cold case ? Unsolved ?Why not tell us what you know and then we debate it from there |
Errm..... I dont know. Maybe you can tell Daddy G.O to ask his DADDY. You can ask Benny Hinn to consult with the Holy Spirit am sure those two entities would know the whereabouts of their third partner between those ages |
truthislight: The Jews seem to excel but people dont seems to ask why?So are the Chinese. China is the world's second largest economy in fact they seem to be the children of promise cos they are lending to nations and not just any nation but the worlds super powers. China turns out millionaires and billionares every now and then but China has no historical affiliation to Yahweh. May be the ingredient you failed to notice in Jewish success is that they stick to their Identity, they borrowed nothing from Rome. They stuck to their Judaism. Chinese to have stuck to their Identity and see where that has taken them. |
Delafruita: when you say "creative minds" what exactly do you mean?freud was a creative mind.so were lord byron and victor hugo.oprah is a creative mind and so is ben carson and david oyedepo.creativity isnt a matter of a belief system that revolves around a deity, its more about the sequence of events in the life of an individual presenting him with the opportunity to make his mark on the sands of time.it isnt about vices they engaged in.alexander was in love with his mother but that fact is relegated to the background because he is perhaps the greatest conqueror in history.lord byron had a baby with his half-sister but that takes nothing away from him been one of the greatest poets of all time.in fact da vinci is thought to even have gay tendencies. |
@truthislight, you made several submissions and assertions about the power of God at work making Samson kill 1000 men with the jawbone of a donkey but problem how come such things only occur in unsubstantiated stories written in the bible? You cant believe peter pan, snow white, santa clause, super man, spider man etc yet you can believe these stories written in the bible. Have you ever wondered why so many of those larger-than-life stories in the bible never happened in recorded history? Oh God is having a rethink hence he is not performing as He used to? You probably don't know that majority of the stories in the bible, especially in OT, were oral traditions i.e they were transfered orally before it was written down. In our mordern day those FABUlous stories can only happen in three places: Video games, Cinemas and in the Bible. In real life such things cannot happen because its not realty. May the force be with you Peace |
obadiah777: this is the version of bible that says universe. you do know heavens also mean universe right http://www.biblestudytools.com/gnt/genesis/1.htmlGenesis 1:1 In the beggining God created the HEAVEN and THE EARTH, pls note HEAVEN Rather than the HEAVENS. Hence the writer of Genesis was specific about a place/location and not a description of the cosmos. |
Delafruita: cant see jesus anywhere.probably keeping to "african time"Faith my brother, faith! This is what will make you see Jesus. If you believe that you will meet Jesus in church, then you will meet him but if not He wont show up. LMFAO....talk about delusion and highest level of cognitive dissonance. |
plaetton: How would you deal with the situation if your spouse or partner pay tithe with your earnings? For me, I was a christian and I married a devout christian Lady. My goal as a husband is to make my wife, and by extension my family, happy. As a result I do not try to force my belief system on anyone let alone my wife, and when I give her money I do not bother my head on minute by minute detail on how she spent 'her` money. The money she is prolly paying tithe on is her money, even tho it may have come from me, therefore I dont need to loose sleep over her paying tithe. However, if she takes my personal money or money needed to keep the hosehold and she throws it arround to enrich one demigod in the cladding of a pastor then there will be trouble. |
@Spicy v, The difference between your own kind of giving (plus the kind of giving your pastors preach) and the kind of giving these world billionaires engage in is while your giving is based on reaping percuniary gains such that in your mind you have programmed that if you give 1, you will reap 100 or 1000 (something that strikes me like jackpot, gambling or kalokalo) theirs is based on unfettered altruism, love for humanity and kindness to the human race. While your own reward is in monetary terms theirs is in the satisfaction that someone would, thru their giving, live a day longer, be able to walk again and live a fulfiled life here on this blue planet. If for a moment I choose to be a christian then I believe Jesus will be a lot happier with these atheist billionaires than he will be with you or your jet flying pastors. You have another opportunity to be altruistic. There is a young lady I heard about on the cool fm radio today who has cancer on her shoulder blade. She is a recent graduate of law from the University of Lagos but this cancer is threatening to cut her Iife short. Show some altruism, show a little kindness, go to any GTB branch and ask for Funmi Lawal's account. She needs N4m for surgery, I learnt today from Nairaland and Linda Ikeji's blog that Don Jazzy has already donated N2m to this lady. Go ahead and confirm and give whatever you can. You may not get any reward for this but you would have contributed to saving a life. You pastors may not give you the opportunity to give cos they would have collected all your money in form of tithes, offerings and other outrages donations but pls go out of you way to help this poor lady by giving some money for her suggery. Peace! |
spicy v: I advice you to carefully read and understand a post before you reply! Your response doesn't address anything sited in my post. I never addressed the issue θf voluntary or compulsory giving! My focus was on ensuring to have an expectation when giving.em could you pls give the source of your claim that the world billionaires were asked to give away their wealth and their response? Please permit me to educate you a little bit..... When these world billionaires like Gates and Buffet (who happen to be atheist and agnost respectively) give, they do not give to the church to enrich some pastors so the pastors can buy a private jet. They give to better humanity, to poor nations of the world, to help fight diseases like polio, malaria and cancer. When (or if) they say it is the only way to receiving, they do not mean monetary reward. These guys have more than the reserve of some nations. Microsoft Corporations alone as at today is worth about $830bn. When these guys say receive they mean satisfaction, joy, fulfilment in seeing that they have the priviledge of being part of the solution to some endemic problems. This cannot be said of our pastors who by virture of their office to extracts financial gifts from their congregants as well as use church donations in form of tithes and offerings to build vast business empires then later come back to say they have their own businesses. |
Joagbaje: We are not discussing tithes here. But the doctrine of giving and receiving . And for your information , tithing wasnt a Jewish affair but a principle based on the bible like others such as faith, prayer, worship offerings,, etc. They all pre existed the Jewish law and the Jewish nation. And there's never a place in the bible where God put an end to it or them. I don't like to enter debate on tithe . Let everyone be convinced in his own mind.Uncle Jo, Could you pls tell the house how the issue of tithe precede the Jewish law bearing in mind that there was only one record of Abraham giving tithe which came from spoils of war and another account was that of Jacob promisin to give God a tenth of all he had if he becomes successful however there was no record of him ever fulfilling this promise |

Ameh02: Josephus n Philo re jewish historians one of them witnessed d distruction of jerusalem by d romans n both wrote extensively but seperately about the life n time of Jesus.Could you please provide proof of what you wrote? Josephus wrote just a little more than one line about Jesus, is that what you call extensive? |
@OP, I will advice that you ignore any attempt by anyone to derail the thread. Stay focused until you have been able to do justice to this discussion/submisssion before you respond to any one. Pleeeeaaaaaseeee!!!!! |
@OP, I will love to have the book |
We may be moving closer to knowing who the main sponsor of Boko Haram is Fresh facts have emerged as to why the government of late Sani Abacha did not kill Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), governor, Lamido Sanusi, in 1995, after he and eight other jihadists mobilized crazed extremists to behead Gideon Akaluka in jail Akaluka, a young igbo trader, allegedly desecrated the Koran. He was arrested after his wife allegedly used pages of the Koran as toilet paper for her baby. After he was locked up by the police, a group of Muslim fundamentalists break into the jail, beheaded Akaluka, and paraded his bodiless head around the streets of Kano. Pointblanknews.com investigation has revealed the role Sanusi, an alleged Boko Haram sympathizer, and proponent of the controversial Islamic Bank, played in the murder of Akaluka, and why the Abacha regime decided to lock him up for two years for the murder of Akaluka. Sources hinted that shortly after returning from Khartoum, Sudan where he earned a degree in Sharia and Islamic studies, at the International University of Africa, Sanusi became a recluse and immersed himself in the Koran and became a teacher of the Hadith as espoused by the Wahabbists. Wahhabism is an ultra-conservative branch of Sunni Islam. It is a religious movement among fundamentalist (with an aspiration to return to the primordial fundamental Islamic sources Qur`an, Hadeeth and Scholarly consensus (Ijma)) Islamic believers. Wahhabism was a popular revivalist movement instigated by an eighteenth century theologian, Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (1703–1792) from Najd, Saudi Arabia. Sanusi, who is alleged to detests the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, because according to him, it is anti-islam, was part of a nine man clique of extremists who had a huge following. A source said, “ when Sanusi returned from Sudan where he associated with very extreme personalities, he was not a happy man. he was treated like an outcast in royal circles because his grandfather, was deposed as Emir of Kano. So his anger grew. “ During that period, the incident of desecration of the Koran by the Akalukas surfaced. According to our source, during that period the Abacha government was not comfortable with the activities of the extremists in Kano, who they view with suspicion. The regime, it was gathered, silently assassinated a lot of them. Said our source “ When Akaluka was locked up, Sanusi and eight others mobilized some extremist mob who stormed the prison and killed Akaluka. The regime identified the masterminds, so mandated its hit squad to eliminate the nine, including Sanusi .” Pointblanknews.com gathered that eight of the masterminds were assassinated by Abacha, but for the intervention of former First Bank chairman, and father of Christmas Day bomber, Alhaji Umar Mutallab and others. “ It was Muttallab and the rest who were heavy sponsors of Islamic activities who prevailed on Abacha to spare Sanusi. They are argued that since he has gone through a lot, treated like a pariah in the royal circles because his grandfather was deposed, he should be spared. So They decided to remove him from Kano to Sokoto where he was locked up for two years.” Said the source It was further learnt that after his release from prison, Sanusi was handed over to Mutallab who pushed him into banking because he(Sanusi) had a degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU). From there he moved to the United Bank for Africa, and the First bank, from where he rose quietly until late President Umar Yar’Adua recruited him to head CBN and spearhead the introduction of the Islamic Bank. http://pointblanknews.com/pbn/exclusive/why-abacha-didnt-kill-cbn-gov-sanusi-in- |

The writer captured the religios essence of africans so well in this article |
Interpreting Religion And The Lies We Tell Ourselves Like a thief in the night,I will come’,Jesus said. We would never know how right those words are except we cast our minds back as to how the missionaries came with a bible,to teach, steal and destroy. We were naïve and those of us that were not easily swayed by gifts of the white man,the guns easily persuaded. Since 1490 when king Nzinga of kongo now modern day Angola invited the first missionaries to sub- sahara africa till date what has religion brought us? As christianity forged its way through the atlantic ocean to Africa due to the American and Europeans invention of big ships, the Arabs found a way of riding camels through deserts with Islam on their helm. Its funny how their Geographical location and their means of transportation has almost equally divided Africa into the predominantly muslim north and christian south. Isn’t it weird that this same Africans are now killing in the name of a religion that the missionaries and muslim scholars told them would bring peace and joy? Coming to modern day Nigeria, a country invented by the british who never really understood the complexity in combining different cultures under one nation, the tale isn’t the same but very similar . For like a thief in the night, the sovereignty of the nation is being questioned especially by Religion. We used to believe religious terrorism was a foreign thing,AL-Qaeda versus the United states,Israel versus Hamas,Somalia versus al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen etc. But in the night came a thief…Boko Haram. All of a sudden,Religion started killing our family, our friends. It is known world wide that religion has killed more people than drugs have, but in west africa where tribe and place of origin had always commanded more loyalty than religion,Nigeria broke the boundaries. Some will say why blame religion in general?,why not blame the muslims for killing the christians, others will say let us divide Nigeria,we cannot live with the hausas. I think we are missing the main point, muslims are not dying, christians are not dying,it is Nigeria that is dying. Everytime a bomb or gun kills a soul in Nigeria, either for religion or using religion as an excuse,a part of you and I die. When will we realise that Christianity or Islam in itself cannot kill but when you turn it into a religion that sees itself different from others then it becomes like Karl Max said ‘Opium of the people’ that can be used either constructively to preach peace among its people or as we have experienced in Nigeria,to terrorise the defenceless and kill women and children. When will we take a leaf from the yorubas who see themselves as yoruba first before asking about religion hence the countless inter-religious marriages among them? When will islamic terrorists see that Saudi-arabia, the cradle of islam have one of the closest relationships with the united states and the Holier than thou christians see what Israel, the birth-place of Jesus is doing to their fellow black brothers? When will we realise that killing in the name of religion is one of the most foolish things to do? When religion said it will bring us peace and happiness,it not only lied to us,it also stole our identity and enslaved our way of reasoning. Or isn’t it in Nigeria where you have christian higher institutions unaffordable for the tithers children that made the church grow? Will you close your eyes to the pastor with 3/4 private jets with no free hospital clinic for the needy? or a orphanage home? Like you I noticed how the high and mighty general overseers of multinational churches kept mute while their sheep were on the street protesting against the injustice the men they blessed as Nigerian rulers chose to instill pain in the populace? I can hear someone say,hey mister! Watch how you talk about a man of God! But I will tell you ‘watch how you steal in the name of God from God’s children’.Please pastor, don’t slap another lady again, she isn’t as strong as you, slap a man your own size. You ‘Mr imam’,that believes a woman’s face should be hidden from other men while you go around seeing other women to add to your collection of wives, hold your religion, thanks but no thanks. For unlike you,I still believe the gods that our ancestors worshipped were not idols, but a proper representative that was in tune with our culture. I still believe Jesus and Muhammed represent icons of peace and equality for man and woman, unlike you my religion is not as important as my faith in God,my faith in love and my believe in Nigeria. Unlike you, religion lied to me but I didn’t believe. http://www.informationnigeria.org/2012/08/opinion-interpreting-religion-and-the-lies-we-tell-ourselves.html |
THE CURSE OF RELIGION By Japhet Omojuwa 06 Aug, 2012 THE CURSE OF RELIGION To the peripheral onlooker, the title of this article is quite misleading. For they think, how can religion be a curse ? Nigerians hold their religion tightly to their chest. They practice it with such vigour and fervour ,you’ll think God lives in their backyard. A man buys a car, he ties it to God. He embezzles money, he points to God as the source. Our corrupt rulers hold thanksgiving services in church, after successfully rigging elections, insulting God as the source of their ‘win’. For the average Nigerian, missing Church services or not going to the Mosque is a taboo in itself. Religion is man’s major link to God. It is the gift of God to us. How has this gift become our curse ? Religion largely responsible for where Nigeria is today. The average Nigerian, instead of demanding for good governance, that is rightly his, says he leaves everything to God. The other day, when Japheth Omojuwa was tweeting about his Ipad saga, with an airline, someone told him the usual; “Leave everything to God” . The average Nigerian man or woman, expects a miracle in every situation. He wants a job, he leaves everythi ng to God. He wants money he leaves everything to God. He wants to rise in life, he leaves every thing to God. God has become an integral part of the average Nigerian’s daily vocabulary. For how long will we continue to leave everything to God ? God will not do for you, what you can do for yourself. Roll up your sleeves and get to work. This same curse of religion is responsible for our stale ways of thinking. We have been unable to come up with novel, innovative solutions to problems. That rigid, within-the-box thinking, some of us have conferred on ourselves because of religion, is the cause of our problems. Religion is the same reason we have become complacent as a nation. For how long Nigeria ? When will we stop praying about the situation of our nation and start doing something ? Leaving everything to God, is the same reason why we have compromised standards of excellence that hold true all over the world and are functioning as a mediocre nation. Even in sports, our days of glory are history. We cut corners, hoping for a miracle each time. Why do we expect miracles ? Even God will not break protocol, for a man who is unprepared. God will never perform miracles for those who are not ready to obey laws. He laid the foundations of the universe based on laws. The law of gravity, does not ‘hang’ just because someone asked for a miracle .The standards of God stand sure, He will not compromise them for any man. Nigeria is one of the most religious countries on earth, with a church on every street. What has made us become such hypocrites ? Despite our religion, we still have such greed, inter tribal wars, corruption ,intolerance and massive bigotry. Has our religion done a lot for us? Where did we go wrong ? Let us trace the problem back to the roots. Why is there so much evil and corruption and bloodshed in our land ,when we have so much religion ? Do check yourself today .Is your religion a sham ? Do you stay true to your maker, even when no one is watching ? Do you obey His laws, when it seems no one will know ? Do you say one thing in public, while you do another in private ? Are you a bigot ? Do you truly practice every tenet of your religion ? Do your have a solid relationship with your creator ? If you honestly answer all these questions and seek positive change, Nigeria may just be on her way to greatness, starting with you. Peace. http://omojuwa.com/?p=10540 |

@OP, These stories have been proven to be lies, just like the einstein and professor story. Several threads on NL have debunked them. |
Niflheim: reverend king burns people, adeboye annointed the olumba olumba jonathan, bishop obembe stole benny hinn's money, okotie wrote a poem for ibb, paul adefarasin said that obasanjo is a saint..........these pastors are sick!!!No u did not finish the script. Adeboye annointed Olumba Olumba president, annointed Akingbola whom a UK court has convicted of stealing N165b intercontinental bank's funds as pastor, fraternised with James Ibori, the infamous govnor who another UK convicted of stealing $250m of Delta States money, annointed another man who was a former staff of INEC as pastor. The INEC man was discovered to have stolen N7b and kept it in a secret account as well as marrying another wife while stil legally maried to another woman (bigamy). This Adeboye guy just enjoys the company of the corrup. I cant shout. |
