Ihedinobi: Dude, it really won't kill you to think a little or tell a little truth. Every belief is a disbelief rotated 180°. If I believe that God exists, I cannot also believe that He doesn't so my belief in God's existence is a disbelief in His inexistence. Conversely, a disbelief in God's existence is a belief in His in existence just like InesQor said. It is disingenous to insist you have no beliefs when you do have and admit that you do have disbeliefs.

If I get you right, its like saying childlessness is a form of parenthood or motherhood or fatherhood because you are a father/mother/parent of no child, and also not paying the school fees of your children turned 180° is still paying school fees because you are paying school fees of no child. Using the bible to tell me morality is from your God or that he is moral is more like a Nigerian Senator trying to use Nigerian constitution as an international standard for the humongous financial package given to Nigerian senators. Citizens of other countries would think you are a joker because your constitution only affects you as a citizen of a country while you are withing the shores of that country. You make it look as if your bible is the only religious authority despite all the attrocities in it.

It always amazes me how many times this God orders the killing of innocent people even after the Ten Commandments said “Thou shall not kill”. For example, God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21). God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there. He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3). He orders another attack and the killing of “all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses” (Joshua 6). In Judges 21, He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married. When they wanted more virgins, God told them to hide alongside the road and when they saw a girl they liked, kidnap her and forcibly rape her and make her your wife! Just about every other page in the Old Testament has God killing somebody! In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church! In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered.

The God of the Bible also allows slavery, including selling your own daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:1-11), child abuse (Judges 11:29-40 and Isaiah 13:16), and bashing babies against rocks (Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137:9).

This type of criminal behavior should shock any moral person. Murder, rape, pillage, plunder, slavery, and child abuse can not be justified by saying that some god says it’s OK. If more people would actually sit down and read the Bible there would be a lot more atheists like myself.

Jesus also promoted the idea that all men should castrate themselves to go to heaven: "For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it." (Matthew 19:12 ASV) I don't know why anyone would follow the teachings of someone who literally tells all men to cut off their privates.

The God of the Bible also was a big fan of ritual human sacrifice and animal sacrifice.

And just in case you are thinking that the evil and immoral laws of the Old Testament are no longer in effect, perhaps you should read where Jesus makes it perfectly clear: "It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)
I know that most Christians believe that God is a good and loving god, and wants people to do good things. I believe that most people want to do good things and behave morally. I also believe that many Christians haven’t really read the Bible, or just read certain passages in church. This is understandable, as the Bible is hard to read due to its archaic language and obscure references. Also many priests and preachers don’t like to read certain passages in the Bible because they present a message of hate not love

Before the entry of Christianity in Africa, were Africans not moral? At least the little I know from history is that virginity was held in high esteem, apart from that you do not have to stay by your goods in the market all you had to do was indicate how much your wares go for and customers would come, take whatever they wanted and they drop your money. You have chosen to be your own gods and thus you proclaim your own morality. Stalin was acting consistently within his own sense of morality. Definitely he saw nothing wrong in killing off believers in God. And you self-acclaimed atheists have no basis whatsoever in your personal "moralities" for saying he did wrong.

So for your information, not only those who mock you God face his wrath, even those who praise are not immune to his blood thirsty ways.

Honestly I wonder where these theists get their notion that morality is synonymous with belief in the invisible sky ruler(islam) or sky daddy (christianity). Today I was pondering in my mind the behavior of an average theist and I realised that they only God's people when it comes to debate about the existence of their God, in everyday living their lifestyles are not better than everyone else, sometimes they are even worse. There is this Lady who constantly argues the God thingy with me all the time, she reads her bible every now and then as if its going out of fashion and early in the morning she is the first to wake up and pray. She has completed all the membership classes in her church and when she sings at house fellowship she is like a nightingale. Deep down in my mind, I thought this girl has NEVER seen a naked man in her life but I was shocked when, last week, she told me in passing that the last time she was ill, she teased the guy she is dating she was pregnant! As if that was not enough she said the guy pleaded with her to please do something about the pregnancy because his wife must never find out. My shock knew no bounds. Now the question in my mind is does this define morality?

Another one of my friends who I will call 'D' was telling me about a friend of his who was dating a 19 yr old girl and wants to break the relation ship because he felt the girl is too young, that his friend is 37yrs and married. 'D' said he told his friend to get on with the relationship that there is nothing wrong, mind you 'D' is a member of deeper life and he is always very upset with me when I come up with atheist arguments and 'D' himself has two kids yet he sleeps with everything in skirts that has hole in front of it.

These are just two out of many experiences that I have everyday with these Bible/Quran thumping God believers. The question that then comes to heart is why do these people delude themselves in to thinking they have a special relationship with their invisible sky daddy. Theists cheat, lie, defraud, steal, womanise, even kill in their everyday lives. Therefore, morality has nothing to do with your belief in God or otherwise, it is about what you feel is right ad what you feel is wrong

Do you know that the cloths worn by either gender is largely dictated the culture. Do you know that Scottish men have a traditional wrapper/skirts-like clothing called kilt? Would you advise a lady who is an engineer on a construction site to wear skirts, gown or "iro" to work? How convenient will that be? Nobody and I repeat, nobody said trousers are strictly for men. Even in today's fashion, you can easily differentiate trousers meant for men and those meant for women, in fact the orientation of the the buttons are different so what are you haggling about? You and your other supporters claim some ladies wear cloth trousers that reveal the shape of their virgina , guy get your mind out of the gutter. The truth is that whatever they wore that revealed their privacy is still classified as women's clothing. Even if these clothings reveal their shapes, they are still women's clothing you are the one that should get his mind out of the gutter. I agree that some ladies dress provocatively but be sure that these women will still dress that same way if they wore gowns but the truth is these tight fitting pants can be worn decently with long t-shirts that will cover important areas of their bodies.

@Logic, a few days ago I was involved in an argument with some guys in PG hall in unilag and one of them claimed his God answers prayers. Well I said no problem, let's see a demonstration. I took a lamp, switched it on and asked him to pray to Jesus to switch it off. You need to see how this guys turned the situation arround with religious insinuation. 'Why would I ask my God to put out my light', 'i can't put my God to the test', 'the bible says do not put your God to the test'..... and several other stupidly bizare attempts not to take up the challenge. They even resulted to insults..... and to think that these were PhD hopefuls I felt sorry for them, then I asked 'How come in your bible God was ready to take up a challenge between Elijah and the prophets of baal on mount carmel but cannot take up a much simpler challenge? I think christians should now be taunted with the same lines Elijah was said to have used on the baal prophets....'maybe your God is asleep, shout louder to wake him up or maybe he has gone on a journey, send him a message to come back on time'

I think "The big question" kind of forum will be very interesting. It will help remove the fear and anger religious people have towards atheists and atheism. In fact I saw a vidoe on youtube where a church in the US actually invited an atheist for a public discussion and everything went on with no animousity. We all, theists inclusive, need to come to terms with the fact that atheism has come to stay. And to those who think logic is trying to convert people to atheism I will say it is almost impossible to convert a person to atheism. You cannot imagine how scary it is to discountenance something you have held to be true all your life just because someone told you your beliefs are basely. Dropping religious beliefs take strength, courage and strong desire to seek the truth. It goes beyong arguments, discussions and "evangelism", its a personal decison. I have been a christian and am now an atheist and I must tell I fight constant battles everyday just to assert my position. People are fearful and hateful of you when they know you do not believe in the existence of God(s), after listening to you they add amusement to the list of the feelings they have for you. They want to argue everything with you and tell you those things you do not have ready explanations for are actually the works of God.
I was once at an engineering training where the facilitator is an MFM pastor. He has this lopsided belief that everyone who doesn't share or follow in his church's ideologies about christianity will go to hell, meaning everybody else apart from MFM and a few other paranoid men of God would go to heaven. One day. during the training he made a funny statement. He said in his time in school, OAU, you can only graduate if you are either a strong christian, strong muslim, strong traditionalist and ............ wait for it..... strong atheist. This sounded funny to me so I asked him why atheists, since a theist do not believe in God and subsequently cannot get help from him (God) or them(Gods). He responded and said the atheists' mind are so built up that it is almost impossible to harm them. That statement only confirmed the myth and fear associated with atheists and atheism

I have joined the Nigerian atheist forums on facebook and am loving the things I see there. I will encourage others to join as well.

However, I dont think we should have our own special place. The best we shoul petition for is a permanent thread at the top of the religion section for the best atheist argument against religion/god.


I have promised myself tht I will try as much as possible to not abuse the christians/muslims. Imagine Anony calling me Stalin junior but when I call him a bigot for stereotyping my atheism, I am the abusive one.

Like I said, ignore the guy. Calling you Stalin junior does not does not make you one does it? That's his own interpretation, however flawed, of the call you made. The best way to fight back is by showing him he is wrong and not by telling him.

Haven't people realised that no sky daddy is really in charge of matters on this pale blue planet. Listen to CNN etc and you will know the kind of pains people are going through. Syria has been at war for several months now with more than 30,000 people dead and thousands more injured does that signify that some floating sky daddy is in charge?
