barcanista: What lies in store for the Niger Deltans/SS? Do we continue with the one Nigeria? Should we demand for independent Niger-Delta country or we consolidate on our love and unity with the Igbo nation for an independent and a united SS/SE country?
As an Ijaw, our father's resisted Biafran movement because of "trust" issues. I have searched to see the legitimacy of such fears even read from the memo of Chief Dappa Biriye and I have found no real base but the natural human fear of the unknown. Dappa Biriye, Isaac Boro and some others fought for united Nigeria even when they had nothing gaining from the country. Dappa Biriye was very close to Yakubu Gowon, Muritala Muhammed and even Ahmadu Bello. He always preached "resource control" and good environment, yet we never achieved it. In fact, he formed the Niger Delta Council, a political party for the ethnic Eastern Minorities, through which Melford Okilo won a seat to the House of Representative. He had alliance with Northern People Congress that formed the government, yet we achieved nothing but a common parliamentary secretary. Despite our loyalty to the Nigerian state, the status quo of marginalisation and outright rejection of our demands still stares our faces.
Of a truth, the Niger Delta is filled with different ethnic group and it has never been an organised entity. An independent Niger Delta will only created a confused society. The more organised entity is the eastern region/SS/SE that has been even before independence. The Igbos have shown real brotherhood and have been consistent. I TRUST them.
If Nigeria is to remain United, there must be structural change. Resource Control and True Federalism should not only be accepted, but implemented and encouraged for socio-economic and political progress. A continuous rejection of this demand should make way for a referendum for the people of the ss/se to determine their future in accordance with the UN Principle of Self Determination. Should that be the case, I shall support a United Country with the Igbo nation and the SS irrespesctive of the nomenclature.
However, the new country will have to adopt autonomy of the different nations that makes up the country.
God Bless Us All Once again, thank you so much for reaffirming our resolve to pursue a common cause. Be rest assured we'll get there in the fullness of time even as there would be impostors trying to weaken our resolve. Keep the spirit alive...LOWER NIGER FEDERATION (of autonomous nations). |

Eastern Nigeria is such a natural wonder. It only needs the right atmosphere and enabling politics to blossom. Why the Ibom Deep seaport is mired in the retrogressive politics of Nigeria is still not understood. So many potentials and yet we're still waiting endlessly. From Ikot Ekpene to the commercial city of Aba in Abia state is a mere 41 kilometers...When are we going to start coupling all these positives for the greater benefit of the region |

jaybee: I just can't reconcile this. The same people that were shouting "GEJ FOREVER", are now making instant demands for change in the system they fought tooth and nail to preserve. Something is just not adding up! This shows the character of many Nigerians that have held Nigeria back for decades; INSINCERITY!!! and HYPOCRISY!!!!
Were the people shouting "GEJ FOREVER; NO VACANCY IN ASSO ROCK: .....ETC" ready expecting any of change being discussed throughout Nigeria today from GEJ? Were they expecting any different results from the same government with the same tactics Did you not understand the satire in all that Charlie wrote? Nigeria is a country running on a skewed structure that even the best man for the job of presidency would be struggling. We've already seen Jonathan's. And we're now wholeheartedly embracing the "changi" from Mr. Buhari. It is people's utmost prayer that Buhari had the secret to unlock Nigeria. Therefore, just like Jonathan, 48 months should be enough for Buhari to 'light up Nigeria', fix the issue of corruption once and for all, fix unemployment, industrialize the nation etc.. I pray the result of the next 48 months do not further vindicate those who are calling for a restructured Nigeria from the current chaos. |

In 1998 Chief Anyaoku received the Freedom of the city of London Medal, the highest honour the ancient capital of Britain can bestow. The former secretary general had a $1.8 million chair in Commonwealth studies named after him at the University of London. He was decorated by Queen Elizabeth as an Honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order

People who don't know the Umunna family of Ogbunka, Anambra State may not understand that Chuka was born in a strong and influential lineage.
His late father, Ben Ositadinma Umunna, was the son of a former commissioner of police in Nigeria. He was a multi millionaire and former Chairman of Enugu Rangers International and was popularly known as "Bensube". He died in 1992 while campaigning to become the Anambra state governor. So Chuka is just following the old tradition of nobility in the family. Good for him. I'm quite sure his uncle, Chike Umunna and sister Chinwe would be very happy about this development.

It's good to know and recognise these diversities in every state even though some petty minded people would take exception to this sort of story if the people were to be Igbo speaking. Then it would become Igbo "land grabbing" or "expansionism".
Abuetor, Eke Okpokiri and Osekwenike are native Igbo speaking communities of Bayelsa. The last time it was mentioned, some idi;ots would take none of that.

Vorp: Igbo always seeking to align themselves with their Ijawmasters because of oil. Can't you greedy lot be independent for once and stop trying to form attachee by force.
South south and south east are two different entities and so shall it remain. If you want our oil pray to God or curse your forefathers for lack of foresight. No tribe is seeking to allign with the other for the sake of fleecing her. This is a union based on common geo physical heritage. Before the birth of Nigeria and the attendant cardinal points, these groups were known as the "Lower Niger tribes", and rightly so by their geographical location. The term lower niger as it relates to these tribes is captured in ALL historical books around the world by early explorers and geographers. It's very sad you're not schooled enough to know this. Who tells you its about oil? What is the Igbo lacking that your forefathers have had in abundance? How are you personally better than an average Igbo person today? |

Asari and other South Southerners are identifying with Igbos now cos of how things have turned. That would be one hell of strange marriage with odd bedfellows......Firstly am from Igboland but secondarily sees myself as a Kaduna indigene by association.
