Islam › MURIC Condemns Easter Bomb Blast by deols(op): 9:57pm On Apr 08, 2012
MURIC CONDEMNS EASTER BOMBING

Twin explosions rocked the city of Kaduna this morning killing about twenty people. The explosions occured close to a church. Many others were injured in the bomb attacks.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) strongly denounces this dastardly act. Coming on a day when Christians are marking Easter Sunday, the trend follows other attacks during Christmas and the Islamic festival of Id al-Fitr. We are alarmed that criminal elements are targetting worshippers during festivities. This is an ugly and unacceptable practice which should stop forthwith. MURIC therefore calls on those behind the bombings to cease fire.

MURIC however lays the lion share of the blame squarely on the doorsteps of the Federal Government for dilly-dallying over the issue of dialogue with Boko Haram. The latest raid and attempt to arrest the leader of the group a few days ago is a step in the wrong direction. It cements the allegation of mediators and intermediaries who claim that government agents were exploiting the talks to shadow leaders of Boko Haram. It smacks of deceit and betrayal. These are definitely not the enviable qualities of gentlemen.

Worse still, such dishonest moves by the Federal Government further exposes Nigerian citizens to grave dangers. MURIC charges the central government to take the lives of Nigerians seriously. The primary duty of government is the provision of security for lives and properties. Government has a moral problem where it fails to do this. It is therefore imperative that FG opens a transparent and sincere dialogue process with the Boko Haram. Peace is paramount in the land for now.

Jarus: They were few female Muslim stockbrokers actually and those that cover their heads are even fewer.
Not sure, but I heard others from other stockbroking firms had also conceded to remove their scarf.
Interestingly, the person that stood with her most in IBTC was a Muslim lady topshot who doesn't even cover her own head. She argued her case in top level management meetings. And kudos to IBTC management too, despite being headed by 2 born-again Christians respected her religious stand and accepted her case.

sino: Ok, lets celebrate.
The topic is quite wide as stated by some peeps earlier, then permit me to invent my own ideas.
This might sound crazy, but truly, i believe its an art or an islamic/muslim art.
The art of the ajanosi cool(dont know the best way to translate but i guess backup lecturer or reciter will do).
You have to be givted to be able to perform this art, it takes several years of study and training. It is most common(best to my knowledge) practice amongst the yoruba speaking muslims. There are two major voice types or tonality employed by these artists. they are known as the adabiy and the morkasi, both named as such after two madrasats founded by 2 sheiks, sheikh Adam Al-Illori and Sheikh Qamardeen(cant remember their full names) who were very well known and respected across the country.
At differnt events and occassions, you cant help but notice their presence, their sonorous voice and style are so unique when reciting the quran or mahfuzat, they make lectures more interesting and give you a feel to the meaning of what is being recited, they carry their listners along especially when getting to the end of a verse. I personally enjoy them more in the month of ramadhan when public lectures are very rampant.
I also enjoy the ajanosis o. but they waste time truly. ANd I really am not a fan of buhari omo Musa and his likes especially now that they've gone commercial. My favorite of the old peeps is baba Ayede. People who live in Ibadan should know him. He speaks more of the stories of the prophets in ramadan.

I haven't read the said narration. can you post a link to it?

to keep quiet is supposed to be throughout the sermon and not at a particular time. I'd like to have a reference to that too

Jarus: Some 2-3 years ago, Ndi (NSE DG) banned dressing in Hijab, in fact scarf, on the floor of the stock exchange, as if the Hijab stopped them from doing their job. It was at the height of that woman's uncontrolled power in NSE and few people dared look at her in the face.

One of IBTC's key stockbrokers, G(full name withheld, a year my senior in Ife), was an Hijab-wearing sister(very small Hijab for that matter). IBTC needed to take a decision based of DG's new dress code. She offered to resign instead of going to the floor of the exchange without head cover. But she was too valuable to be left by IBTC, so they took it up. They beckoned on some powerful Hausa big men who run things in this country(and are on the board of virtually every corporation, including NSE or know top guys there) and they got NSE DG to reverse the decision, which is stupid anyway because their brain and not their Hijab will do the work.
that is interesting to know of. But was the decision for her alone or every other person on the floor?

Am feeling proud of her already.
^^the museum was built to showcase archeological findings from a 10th century Islamic palace and site in Cordoba, Spain. It incorporates the principles of Islamic architecture into it's design.

More info on it's concept and background:

Medina Azahara (Arabic: المدينهُ الزهراء‎ Madīnat az-Zahrā, meaning "brilliant town", "beautiful town", or "the town of Zahra" ) is the ruins of a vast, fortified Arab Muslim medieval palace-city built by Abd-ar-Rahman III al-Nasir, (912–961) Ummayad Caliph of Córdoba, and located on the western outskirts of Córdoba, Spain. It was an Arab Muslim medieval town and the de-facto capital of al-Andalus, or Muslim Spain, as the heart of the administration and government was within its walls. Built beginning in 936-940, the city included ceremonial reception halls, mosques, administrative and government offices, gardens, a mint, workshops, barracks, residences, and baths. Water was supplied through aqueducts.[1]

The main reason for its construction was politico-ideological: the dignity of the Caliph required the establishment of a new city, a symbol of his power, imitating other Eastern Caliphates. Above all, it demonstrated his superiority over his great rivals, the Fatimids of Ifriqiya in Northern Africa.[citation needed] Legend also says it was built as a tribute to the favourite of the Caliph: Azahara

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medina_Azahara

the archeological site in question, is right beside the museum and I believe findings from the site are taken directly there for analysis and display.
thanks for that. the history's as beautiful as the building

bhusayor: Awwwww..i like this building! I dint even think it was a nigerian mosque initially. The last time I entered a 'decent' mosque was months ago when I went for jumat at UCH.

I like the view of the arisekola mosque located in IB too, though I've never been so close to it.

*no pictures to attach*
There are many 'decent' msques in badan o. I agree UCH mosque is it but UI mosque is cool too. Arisekola mosque is beautiful from inside out. Mufulaninhun mosque has been left uncompleted for too long. It would have been a very nice one too. There's a mosque close to housing estate, new bodija, modelled after the old kent road mosque in london. it isnt completed yet but is a prospective beau. Oja oba central mosque is a monument but they need to build for it toilets. It is mostly used by the locals and located in the city. I mean, found among the running splash of rust and gold...
