Katsumoto: @ Pazienza

I am not responding to your posts because your are not making any sense. I have no time for dullards today; it is Monday morning.

I have provided sources to back EVERY single assertion I have made. Dede1 made a ridiculous claim and I am satisfied that I have proven it was a lie. That much is obvious to any one with half a brain.

As at January 1966, there were 330 officers in the Armed Forces.

Igbo (Other South) Yoruba North Total
104 43 67 116 330

Source: Robin Luckham's book. You can go and verify it yourself

You lot make assertions and when asked to prove your assertions, you runaway or give excuses. You made a bogus claim about the appointments Ironsi made. Provide your source instead you are shouting like a drunken sailor in a LovePeddler house. You either provide your source or you sod off. Don't for one second think that every one attended the same sort of village schools you attended where facts are determined by the strongest men. You simply say it and others accept it.

In intellectual circles, when you make a claim, you supply a source. It is then the prerogative of your peers or tutors to verify your sources. That is the procedure when you write a dissertation or any other similar work.

You either borrow a brain or you ask the brightest person in your village to help with with simple explanations. Maybe if they translate it to you in Igbo, you might understand better.
The above post is typical inherent idiocy only found among Africans. How could you insinuate that you proved Dede1 wrong with statistical numbers proved by a hack writer such as Robin Luckham?

Dede1 in his usual infinite wisdom provided numbers, names and ranks to match his claim yet tribal pressure blinded you to intellectual reality. I recall the list Dede1 provided did not even mention juniors officers beyond the rank of Captain as venerable Dede1 purposely omitted the names of your favorite Igbo officers such as Lt Osuama and Lt Oguchi.

To further prove you are goofy as Robin Luckham, I went back to the link you provided in your previous post to cull the Dede1’s list.

Katsumoto: First, the problem with debating with someone who hasn't developed completely is that you run the danger of shouting yourself hoarse. You made a claim that Ndigbo constituted 87% of the officer corp at January 1966. After I challenged you, you revised it to 67%. I then provided the stats in Robin Luckham's book (The Nigerian Military: A Sociological Analysis of Authority and Revolt 1960-67) which provides that Ndigbo constituted about a third of the officer corp. I subsequently provided stats from Norman Miners book (The Nigerian Army 1956 - 1966) as a second source. As typical of you, you challenged both authors and provided a list of Igbo officer names. Now I have to be careful because I don't know the level of your education but you see, to arrive at a percentage, you need a numerator and a denominator. You provided the numerator (number of Igbo officers) but how can we arrive at a percentage if you don't provide the denominator (the names of all soldiers)? The debate was never about who had more officers in the army. You told an idiotic lie and I challenged you. And then I provided two CREDIBLE sources to prove that you were telling bigger fibs than Pinocchio. See link below for all the quotes Dede1 made (87%, 67% and 50%)

https://www.nairaland.com/553304/lies-awolowo-igbos/5#8824979

Second, you are exhibiting the same sort of obdurate insensitivity exhibited by Ironsi and his advisory council of ALL Igbo men when they decided that 76% of promotions were going to be filled by Igbo soldiers. Igbo officers had killed the PM, the Northern and Western Premiers, a number of distinguished soldiers, pregnant women, etc and you think that a few months after these murders and also considering the fact that the plotters had not being tried, was satisfactory for a moratorium to be lifted? And yet you lot wonder why the Northerners struck 6 months. It is this sort of cluelessness that put Ndigbo into trouble. When you justify a stupid action, others will commit a stupid action as well and justify it.
There is no doubt your skill in obfuscation is becoming as legendary as in your “copy and paste”. I urge you to think for a monument that Nowa Omoigui or Robin Luckham never existed. I expect you to backup your claims through self-indulgence and exploratory researcher.

If you can not compile the list of Yoruba officers in Nigerian armed forces prior to January 15, 1966, you are a conformist to what Europeans think of Africans, educated lazy stiffs.

Mafia Man: If everything that happened under ironsi should be tied to him alone, why then are we blaming the northerners for crimes committed by Abacha and IBB? By the way, Just like the way Achebe refused publishing the memo of Ifeajuna and even tried hard to northernized Nzoegwu, you ibos can keep on deceiving yourselves by the repetition scripted lies, thinking others won't see through it.

wesley80: You've pointed out the flaws in the piece which is great but isnt there some kind of merit in the entire piece? Like Banjo being imprisoned for treason by virtue of carrying a pistol when all the coup conspirators admit he had absolutely nothing to do with the coup. Captain Ben Gbulie in his book Nigeria's 5 Majors described his shock on seeing Banjo in a cell in Kirikiri. What about Zik's long stay away from the country? Surely these are posers that cant just be dismissed.
The slide of carrying a pistol in the story was such figment of imagination credited to the author. It is unfortunate tribal Vultures descended on the January 15, 1966 coup and turned it into tribal beer parlor discussion. In fact, one of the demerits of the entire conjectural crap was “Banjo being imprisoned for treason by virtue of carrying a pistol”.

The fact remains that soldiers should guard their utterances and mannerisms at all times else a soldier and his/her subordinates could find themselves in a heated trouble.

It must be recall that the 2ic to Lt Col Banjo at the Corps of Army Engineers, Major Ebenezer Aghanya (Igbo) was also arrested and imprisoned at Kirikiri by Lt Col G Korubo because of the loudmouthed antics and silly behaviors of his CO following the incidents of January 15, 1966. The only crime Major Ebenezer Aghanya committed was reporting in his office on time. He was not even carrying a pistol.

I am not even going respond to the arrant nonsense about Zik’s long stay away from the country because the man was on medical trip overseas.

Politics › Re: INTERVIEW: Why We Killed Ironsi And Installed Gowon — Rtd Gen. Jeremiah Useni by DerideGull(m): 3:56am On Sep 30, 2013
Katsumoto: Nigeria is in a mess today.

Suppose a group of Hausa-Fulani (with one Yoruba officer) officers staged a coup and killed GEJ, Ihejirika, Alams, Clark, all the SE and SS governors, etc meanwhile Sambo was out of the country and no Northerners were killed. The coup either ends up being crushed and Sambo becomes president or the coup succeeds and a Hausa-Fulani officer emerged president - would we call such a coup a power grab by the Hausa-Fulani?

People celebrated because they hadn't realised who the plotters were and the ethnicity of the victims. As news filtered in, it dawned on them what had happened.
The above scenario is a silly postulation concocted to mislead pitiful and gullible Nigerians. Unfortunately, there is no ethnic group in Nigeria tagged “Hausa-Fulani”. I can not remember any coup in Nigeria staged or led by Igbo-Ibibio (with one Yoruba) officers.

I had been worriedly dumbfounded to notice that your “copy and paste” skills have failed you in bringing to the fore that Ironsi appointed all northerners as the constituted tribunal to bring formal charges against the January 15, 1966 couple plotters.
Politics › Re: INTERVIEW: Why We Killed Ironsi And Installed Gowon — Rtd Gen. Jeremiah Useni by DerideGull(m):
Katsumoto: 1. Yeah, Ironsi's advisory team was set up impromptu and since the most competent administrators were Igbo, it made sense for the four man team to be all Igbo (sarcasm all the way). grin grin grin

2. The mood in the nation was very sombre. Coup plotters who were predominantly Igbo had not been tried, instead the Igbo head of government immediately lifted the moratorium on promotions and low and behold, 76% of those promoted were Igbo. Not only was the decision insensitive to the sensibilities of non-Igbos, it also smacked of nepotism. How does the lift you provided aid your case? Ndigbo contributed approximately a third of the combatant officer corp as at January 1966 (Robin Luckham - The Nigerian Military: A Sociological Analysis of Authority and Revolt 1960-67) but benefited from 76% of the promotions.

What do you mean by military is fundamental regimental? What are you on about? Don't for one second think that because you served in the military for a few years you automatically become an expert. As for your question, obviously it was the government that was overthrown.

Lastly, my copy and paste has been kicking your behind for the better part of 4 years. When are you going to start providing your own sources?
You are a typical case study of drawback that has besieged Africa’s development efforts which could be found in tribal bias and intellectual laziness. As for your goofy statistics about disproportionate dent in promotion of officers in Nigerian armed forces, which you erroneously claimed favored Ndigbo, I have listed number of Igbo officers in Nigeria armed forces as of January 15, 1966 and asked you to do the same by listing Yoruba officers. It has been close to a decade you have woefully failed to oblige rather you kept invoking the name of a goofy British hack writer named Robin Luckham.

No wonder the vandals in Nigerians could not gather intelligence during Nigeria/Biafra civil war unless the British did it for them. One of the reasons that precipitated the coup of January 15, 1966 was the nepotistic moratorium on promotions of officers by Tafawa Balewa’s government. In order to calm down the nerves of the officers, such idiotic moratorium on promotions was lifted by Ironsi.

Only a basement fool will think six months is too long a time for gathering of evidences in order to prosecute the culprits of Janaury 15, 1966 coup which spanned across ethnic barriers by a government that adhered strictly to the military code of conduct during the era in discussion.

Again, those who were due for promotion under Ironsi’s regime were promoted and some were left out without malaise. It happens in everyday life endeavor that wind of change may not affect all that it was intended to reach. Most Igbo officers were equally overlooked.
Politics › Re: INTERVIEW: Why We Killed Ironsi And Installed Gowon — Rtd Gen. Jeremiah Useni by DerideGull(m): 10:52pm On Sep 29, 2013
Katsumoto: I noticed that Slimghost and others are carefully avoiding certain questions

1. After the Balewa government was overthrown, how come Ironsi's advisory team was made up of all Igbos - Francis Nwokedi, Pius Okigbo, and Lt. Colonel Patrick Anwunah?

2. Eleven (11) Majors were promoted substantive Lt. Cols while fourteen (14) Majors were made temporary Lt. Cols. Of these, 19 were Igbo or Igbo speaking easterners and midwesterners, 5 northerners (Katsina, Akahan, Shuwa, Muhammed, Haruna) and one Yoruba (Olutoye). These promotions happened even though there was a moratorium on promotions in the military. Why was the moratorium ignored and why the hurry? Approximately 76% of those promoted were Igbo.

3. Today, many Igbo folks still refer us to the Aburi accord. The main request at Aburi was to revert back to regionalism. But it Ironsi that promulgated decree 34 which divided Nigeria into 35 provinces and made all civil servants part of a unified civil service despite being advised not to do so by Katsina, Gowon, Bassey, and Kam Salem. It was also the same Ojukwu who the day after the promulgation of decree 34, announced in Enugu that on the basis of seniority, Igbo civil servants would be transferred to other regions and Lagos. Isn't this a case of trying to take someone sweets only to have yours taken away from you resulting in you DEMANDING that your sweets be returned to you? What right does a man who loses all his money in a poker game have to demand that his money be returned to him?

4. Who was going to benefit from the cancellation of the requirement for Hausa tests for jobs in the North? Was it not the Igbo civil servants that Ojukwu claimed were senior? Were they not Igbo?

Clearly, the beneficiaries of the coup were Igbo. The dust had not even settled in the land when the loot had started to be shared.
It is unfortunate you stuck with old habit of “copy and paste” and still receive idiotic accolades from dullards abound on NL.

In the #1 and #2 questions in the above junk you call post, you still show inherent traits that defy human decency. Ironsi’s government was not democratic and coupled with the prevailing social and political conditions in country, the composition of his advisory team was setup impromptu. Even Ironsi’s appointment shortchanged the eastern region when compared with other regions in federation.

As for promotion statistics, I say big shame to you. I have listed the number of Igbo officers in Nigerian armed force’s officer cadre as of January 15, 1966 and requested you to list Yoruba officers so that issue promotion could be settled. I hope you realize military is fundamentally regimental.

May I ask you which government placed the said moratorium on promotions in the military?
Politics › Re: INTERVIEW: Why We Killed Ironsi And Installed Gowon — Rtd Gen. Jeremiah Useni by DerideGull(m): 10:31pm On Sep 29, 2013
Katsumoto: Nice logic but why did Nwafor Orizu not swear in Dipcharima who was the individual selected by NPC, the party that lost the prime minister? Why did Orizu prefer to hand over to Ironsi? We deduce that because Ironsi was Igbo and to ensure that the objective of the failed coup was accomplished. Why should the death of two ministers (Balewa and Okotie Eboh) result in the death of democracy? Are Prime ministers not replaced regularly? Did Jonathan not sack about 9 ministers the other day? Did Nigeria collapse?

Nigeria became a country built on greed on injustice because

1. Igbo officers killed everyone else but their own

2. Orizu refused to swear in the individual nominated by the ruling party

3. Ironsi promulgated decree 34 which divided Nigeria into 35 provinces and made all civil servants part of a unified civil service despite being advised not to do so by Katsina, Gowon, Bassey, and Kam Salem. The day after the promulgation of decree 34, Lt. Col.Ojukwu publicly announced in Enugu that on the basis of seniority, Igbo civil servants would be transferred to other regions and Lagos.

4. Ironsi abolished the compulsory Hausa test for civil service positions in the North, meaning that non-Hausa speaking people could take positions in the North.

5. Ironsi’s advisory team comprised Francis Nwokedi, Pius Okigbo, and Lt. Colonel Patrick Anwunah (all Igbos)

6. Ironsi made Nwokedi the sole commissioner forthe establishment of an administrative machinery for a unified Nigeria

Analyse the issue dispassionately and not through the normal 'every other group is bad and evil while Igbo is innocent'. The Igbo attempted a power grab and failed. Isn't it an irony that the Igbo aligned with the North to form the first government but the Igbos then think all the problems in the first republic were caused by others but not Igbos. If the first government was corrupt and didn't rely on merit, are the Igbos not guilty of the crimes as well?
It is very shameful and worrisome that after years you spent on NL, you still have the effrontery to regurgitate the above conjectural crap lifted from junks prepared by Nowa Omoigui. Nobody can help you to understand how coalition government works in parliamentary democracy more than your silly self.

I am not surprised that the conjectural crap came from a Yoruba peep and it is another desperate attempt to sit historical facts on their heads. The whole construct is a mixture of author’s figment of imagination and few slides from Nowa Omoigui.

For the sake of posterity, let me state categorically that the essay was littered with regrettable falsehoods only meant to fan the dimmed egos of inherent cowards and certified traitors from certain corner of Nigeria.

NCNC was not an eastern regional based political party as the goofy author would want us to believe.

Lt Col Banjo was never a Sandhurst Academy’s trained soldier or graduate. It is unfortunate the most Nigerians, especially Yoruba peeps, tend to confuse facts with fictions and innuendoes.

NCNC ministers never held secret meetings at Dr. Nwafor Orizu’s resident as the moronic author shamefully stated.

Lt Col Banjo was never a signal officer and had nothing to with military communication as the lazy writer had stated.

In fact, the whole write-up was riddled with blatant falsehood that one begins to question the main objective of the author. In addition, it is innate idiocy for a person to adjudge the level of knowledge the intellect of Zik is capable of holding. What a dunce.
