saintsam: I believe House of rep members and senators are serving their fatherland. I believe ex-militants served the country so well, abi? Y pay these guys high wages and allow corpers 2 languish. *shrugs* I and my colleagues never could convince the corpers that came to replace us then to embrace selfless service for the good of the host community. Their preference of seeking the better life led to the collapse of the projects we started from the scratch there. So, I wasn't in the habit of comparing myself to what others were earning wherever they were. I just offered the best of my service, bore the hardships, appreciated the good and went off in search of a better life at the end. |

TheOtherRoom: Even though you server your father land it doesn't really mean you shouldn't be taken good care of. Considering the fact that most coppers are posted to teach in schools you can't compare their experience and impact to that of a SSCE holder who earns the minimum wage of 18k. My point is if a graduate is placed at level 8 and entitled to 66k, why can't a copper be paid more than the half of 66k (33,000)?? Well, people have different motivations. The NYSC isn't a money making venture. I saw it as an avenue to make a difference and I utilized it well. My primary concern wasn't the pay else, I'ld have just asked my L.I. to take the money while I'm busy doing stuffs elsewhere. My advantage then was that I invested much in the community and they took care of my needs. I was able to send money home monthly and left service with about 60k cash despite the fact that the state government didn't pay us their own part. So, why not give to your host community and let them bless you good. After all, some corps members were paid #7,500 and they didn't die off. |

lanreni: The debacle between Amechi and NJC lies in the figment of Amechi/PMB-haters imagination. the intellectual minds know that the judges are just trying to divert attention. it should be the NJC and DSS debacle. Secondly, contrary to many of you, media trials based on hearsays about Amechi is not tenable. let the judges go to court and prove that first, the monies and arms in their residences were lawfully owned and second, prove with evidence that their arrests was an act of vendatta for not collecting bribes. let all parties proceed to court. thats were accused persons go to. Bros, my team just lose 4-0. If you mention me again, I go send you SMS swear |

I mentioned in a thread that these 'bribery accusations' would not see the light of day due to threats..and someone actually called my bluff.
The accusations will keep swaying back and forth until some statesman intervenes to all to let sleeping dogs lie.
Na today?
All of the thieves will use the leverages they have to hold fast to their posts.
It will take nothing short of a revolution by the youths of Nigeria to set things back in place. As for this yeye anti-corruption crusade, I'm not falling for it. |

lanreni: What is this one saying? that amechi's case will not see the courtroom because of threats? who admits any case in court as a result of hearsay? in fact, it proves thatpeople had been offering him bribes without his speaking up. also, its an indictment on the NJC of their sluggishness in even protecting the good judges from monetary intimidation. by the way, i am waiting for the law that says you can't submit an unconsented recording to court. Sorry for you wasting your time, but what relationship does hearsay have to do with the debacle between Amaechi and the NJC? Well, one good thing about 'Mentions' is that it keeps strangers within reach. Let's see how it plays out. |

EHMIR: nd where did i say the judge collected bribe frm ameachi RIGHT HERE EHMIR: Iam not concerned whether ameachi bribed the judge or not..but does the judge have evidence to prove his allegation Iam only saying he should ve been wise enough to put him(ameachi) on voice record,so that he could use it as evidence, not him telling us ameachi offered bribe to him, without any evidence...besides we wouldnt ve heard if dss had not burst their criminal acts.... Perhaps if he had come on a second time, you would have a point. On a neutral ground though, imagine if a colleague had called you, proposing a robbery, would you have a record of it? Does that mean you can't defend yourself should the need arise? Back to this issue; a meeting between two people is private. The constitution empowers the police and their likes to do such, not the judiciary ordinarily. When such recording is released without the permission of the other party, the one who released it has run foul of the law. Why do you think the judge placed emphasis on 'verbally'? These are men who sleep with law books and have studied/dished out verdicts, not me or you on Nairaland. Take farouk lawan/otedola case as an example,nd u shall see d beauty of d point i am trying to raise here I'm yet to get the details of that case. |

Iam not concerned whether ameachi bribed the judge or not..but does the judge have evidence to prove his allegation Now, where did you read that Amaechi bribed the judge? EHMIR: does the judge ve voice record of ameachi,to prove that ''he spoke to him''
Otherwise forget...cos u cnt even convince a law student based on words of d mouth, not to talk of a judge.
It beats my imagination, that a judge in nigeria could be that daft Do you know that to take a record of a meeting without the consent of both parties is against the law? And even if the judge did that, are you expecting him to make it public? Do you know the suits that may come up if they notice he has been recording calls? Asking after records is pathetic. It is only in cases of 'security' or those of grave consequence that call recording can be admitted as evidence. Well, the case is for DSS to prove, not the judge. I doubt if Amaechi's case would ever see the courtroom because a lot of threats would have exchanged hands to die that affair. |

EHMIR: the judge that accused ameachi, does he ve documents too,no be only words of mouth be him evidence.
Do me a favour, swerve Do you know the meaning of 'hearsay'? The judge that accused Amaechi has a direct knowledge because he was spoken to by Amaechi, but this man claims to have been told by someone else who had a direct knowledge. That makes his testimony hearsay and in law courts, hearsay is not trustworthy. The EFCC/DSS often build their cases on hearsay than factual evidence, that's why they succeed in the pages of the juicy-gossip-hungry media but flop in the courts |
