Fashion/Clothing MarketRe: Shirts! Shirts! Shirts! by DewDrop(f): 7:35pm On Apr 11, 2007
@Hugoboi : Tom Ford used to be Gucci's top designer.
Somehow, I find TM shirts all look alike- all stripey and whatnot! LoL
I'll concede that the British are the true shirt makers and Nigerians LOVE everything British I guess cuz I'd never heard of all these shirt makers till shopping for work in Nigeria.
But my Tom ford shirts fit the best, cut for long & lean people with extra long sleeves!

Tom Ford rocks!

PoliticsRe: Are Thursday April 12 & Friday April 13 Public Holidays? by DewDrop(f): 6:36pm On Apr 11, 2007
"President Olusegun Obasanjo has declared Thursday and Friday as work-free days to enable people to travel in order to participate in gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections,"

LMAO yea right!!!

It's definately to delay the Supreme Court hearing on whether Atiku can stand in next week's election.

It's a genius move!
Think what you may about Mr President but I know I'm so glad i don't have to work till Monday!
I wonder if we get the whole week off next week for the Presidential Elections? hmmmm

Gotta love blatant abuses of power for political gain!

Fashion/Clothing MarketRe: Shirts! Shirts! Shirts! by DewDrop(f): 3:44pm On Apr 11, 2007
I agree with User86666, TM shirts ARE overrated. To wear one for me is like guaranteeing there will be at least one other person in that shirt either at my firm or at the client!

I wasn't into shirt makers per say until recently but now I absolutely adore Hawes &Curtis. The cut is fantastic! and Tom Ford dress shirts are an absolute essential!

So my votes go to Hawes & Curtis, Tom Ford.
FamilyRe: My Friend's Wife Lied For 7 Years by DewDrop(f): 3:06pm On Apr 11, 2007
What is worrying the guy the most- hat she doesn't have a degree or that she was able to lie about something so trivial for 7 years? If it's the latter then marriage counseling might be in order because once that trust is gone, he probably now start questioning everything about her past or anything she says.

The outcome of this definitely depends on how badly they want the marriage to work out. If both determined, they can get through anything. It's not like she lied about him being the father of her children!

TV/MoviesRe: Who Watches "My Super Sweet Sixteen"? by DewDrop(f): 3:00pm On Apr 11, 2007
I absolutely adore the show!
My favorite episode had to be the one with the Indian girl that when she said dad it sounded like "Daaaaaaaaaaaah"
She wanted a Range Rover S, AND she got it! LoL . I wanted to slap that chick silly for being so damn annoying- but she was funny though.

Hmmm, I know if I had it to give to my children, I sure would! I can't take it with me!

What I found disturbing though that the only people of color (Black Folks) i see on the show are children of musicians, music producers- children of people in the entertainment industry! Whereas the other people are CEOs, COOs, MDs of Blue Chip companies, Plastics Empires, Oil&Gas, Silicone Valley millionaires etc.

Are there no UBER RICH black folks NOT in entertainment/ sports?
FashionRe: Hair Relaxers: Kit Or Cup? by DewDrop(f): 1:24pm On Apr 11, 2007
I have to caution against relaxing your hair at home- it's hard for you to keep the relaxer only to the new growth! that overlap will eventually weaken your hair to the point of breakage! So if you must relax/retouch at home, have someone there with you to make sure you only apply to new growth.

As with any hairstyle and the Nigerian climate, keeping the hair clean and moisturized is key!

I'll post a list of hairstyle options for short hair and pictures if I can find any later!

I learned that Nigerians call styles by different names!!

"I want to put tracks in" really means nothing to most stylists!

@ ire-funke & omoge I applaud you ladies for your courage @ NO MORE RELAXERS!

Hannydarl has made excellent points, unless you have more specific needs- ie something you can do and upkeep at home, something that requires professional maintenance. Though you don't want relaxers- do you want to process your hair or are you looking to keep it virgin? From there the options available would be easier to list.

TV/MoviesRe: The Roots (Kunta Kinte) On DVD? by DewDrop(f): 7:22pm On Apr 10, 2007
@ Seun- You can't be serious!
I definitely disagree!
At most, I would recommend that films about slavery be given their proper places in history so that we don't have to bombard people with it (yup there's at times some level of bombardment)

Remember: "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." George Santayana
EducationRe: Should Nigerian Polytechnics Be Converted Into Universities? by DewDrop(f): 7:09pm On Apr 10, 2007
Food for thought: One of the HR big dogs in my firm made the statement that with this conversion, the first batch to graduate better come out with 1st class because with all those degree holders, the minimum will move to 1st class.

Talk about further disenfranchising our youth.
CrimeRe: My Nigerian Boyfriend May Be A Drug Baron by DewDrop(f): 6:57pm On Apr 10, 2007
@4 Play: angry Grrrrrr Not All Nigerians are engaged in criminal activity just as not all Italians are mobsters! Be NICE!

as for tanasha, If someone has loved you beyond even your expectations, you owe him more than a 'dear john' letter. AND there is no need to be coy and ask leading questions and try to read minds and decipher body language- JUST tell him straight up!

You can lead with something like "i was reading all these things on the internet about Nigerian business men and I'm just curious about blah blah blah".

But just come out with it!

What? shocked

No Way!

In the words of Lil Kim, "I'm to dime for this, too fly to curse"
Though sometimes, it be like dam!! You just want to slap a chick for overstepping her boundaries!
but
It comes to that old saying, the one who is worth your tears would never make you cry. The one worth fighting over would never put you in a situation where you would have to. So if you ever find yourself in a situation where you're fighting/arguing with another babe, and he's standing there watching and/or laughing, the Joke is on you!! Walk away with the little dignity you have left.
RomanceRe: Question To All Dating On The Site by DewDrop(f): 3:33pm On Apr 10, 2007
It's funny cuz as secure as we all are in our relationships and whatnot- it must affect us all somehow when you see someone flirting with or being very aggressive towards your man. I'm not silly i know that the same qualities i see in him, other women will also and I'm secure in myself and in what i have going on to know that if he were to start messing up- it would be his loss, no matter how hurt i would be, it would be his loss.
But i digress, LoL.
I personally do get jealous- just a little. I don't hate the girl and wanna break heads or shout and scream or anything but i get a bit jealous and it just reminds me how much I really am into this guy. I get a bit jealous cuz I want the guy wholly and completely to myself, Its human nature to get a lil envious.
But trust me, it's not something to dwell over cuz its a compliment to me that so many ladies are going after my guy. I se eit as a testament to my good taste.
:-D
FashionRe: Hair Relaxers: Kit Or Cup? by DewDrop(f): 3:09pm On Apr 10, 2007
Well if you have a steaming machine- you can steam easily at home.
If you don't the what you'd be doing at home won't technically be 'steaming'
You can heat up the deep conditioner or cholesterol, apply it to your hair, cover with shower cap and wrap a hot towel around your whole head. (Stick it in boiling water) or wrap a dry towel around your shower cap and stick a hand dryer between the layers and imaging you have a heating cap on.

That should give you the closest you can get to 'steaming' without a home steamer.
Hope it helps.

P.s- try a different stylist at a reputable salon if you've been having issues with stylists listening to you. Go on People whose judgment you trust recommendations only. If you need referrals in Lagos or Oyo State, let me know.
CareerRe: Should I Lie About Work Experience? by DewDrop(f): 4:11pm On Apr 05, 2007
I wouldn't want to make this a moral issue of lying or not because joblessness can lead you to bigger moral dilemmas (stealing to feed yourself?) It's up to you to do what you feel- depends on how desperate you are.

Note though that if you are going to lie, don't get caught clueless about the lie.

Know the details of this job "experience" front and back! From your duties to things you may have "learned" from the experience, etc

Good Luck!
RomanceRe: What To Do With A Cheating Boyfriend? by DewDrop(f): 3:56pm On Apr 05, 2007
My Suggestion- DUMP HIM!.

3 times forgiven means he sees your strength & ability to forgive as a weakness and he's manipulating the situation. After his indiscretions, he should be doing anything and everything possible to make you comfortable and regain your trust.

It seems however, that he REALIZES that any relationship (friendship or otherwise) with this other woman is disrespectful to you, so he lied about it! Meaning he'll lie about anything else that may or may not happen with her. That's why its so sad, he obviously knows its wrong but continues to do it!

It will be difficult after 4 years but think- how many of those years were you truly happy and satisfied and secure in feeling like the only woman in the world for him?

You can't change him, but you can change you- So either deal with it or walk away.

I vote that you walk- you deserve more than this- every woman does

The good 'ol reliables:

Romans 12:12- "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."
Car TalkRe: Getting a Driver's License in Nigeria by DewDrop(f): 9:57am On Mar 29, 2007
3 or 4 days? WoW- Why would it take so long? grin I had mine overnite, I gave my driver my passport photos and wrote out my info on Tuesday morning and by Wednesday evening- He handed me my Nigerian license(though nothing is correct on it- not even my name is spelled correctly!), So i don't know if it'd enter fire, but i got mine! LoL

Seriously though, It would have been better to list all the protocol and security measures I faced in getting a license, however Nigeria is in such a state that going to the 'DMV' to inquire about a license was one of the of the most difficult things for me to accomplish- as in at the end of the day, the only thing i had were extortion attempts. "Fill that form, pay this amount, come back this day", and 'this day' would never come,

It's truly frustrating.

And yes, there are light skinned people who look far more attractive with a darker skin tone, I happen to know one (she has large lips, maybe thats the reason, ??)
YOU can't be serious!!

Following your logic, Large lips make a light skinned person unattractive and they can look better only with a darker skin tone?! WTF?

R you kidding me!? no seriously. . . .
