Search engine optimization(SEO) is the process where you carry out certain techniques to aid your posts in ranking higher on search engines pages.

There are two types of SEO; On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO.

1. Keyword Research:

Keyword research is very important and valuable. This single act can make or break your blog, by learning your industry's keyword demand, you will be in a good position to know which phrases and terms to target with SEO.

There are many tools to help you with keyword research but the best out there is google keyword planner, it's free and it helps you get all the keywords you can rank for. It also gives you some detailed information about each keyword like monthly searches and competition.

2. Page Title:

Page title is an important SEO factor. Page title tag comes up in search engine result. Make sure every page of your blog have a unique page title tag, this makes it easier for search engines to pick up your pages when a search is conducted.

You must make sure to include a relevant keyword, preferably starting with it. The length of the page title should not be more than 60 characters.

3. SEO friendly url:

4. Meta description:

The point of this is to provide a brief summary of your post, something that will tell the user what your post is all about. 5. Keyword density:

The only way search engines know what your contents are all about is by checking what keyword you use all over the contents body. You help the search engines by using relevant keywords all over the post meanwhile do not overdo this because search engines may see it as stuffing and penalize you.

6. Use body tags (H1, H2 and so on):

Breaking your contents into sections and paragraphs makes it easier for readers to read and understand. These sections are given as headings, H1, H2, H3, H4 and so on.

H1 are generally reserved for page titles and subsequent tags (H2 and H3) follow up. search engines use these heading tags to determine what' important on your posts. Make sure your keywords appear on these tags starting with H1.

7. Images:

Using images within your contents is a great way to make your posts virtually appealing and decrease the bounce rate of your blog. People love images, you can use them to improve the SEO of your blog.

However, you need to know how to do this effectively. Make sure that all uploaded images are titled and use alt tags to tell search engines what your images are about. Do not forget to use relevant keyword on your image's alt tag.

8. Internal linking:

We pay more attention to links from other websites forgetting that our internal links are important as well. Internal linking not only makes it easier for your visitors to navigate through your blog posts but also plays an important role on how search engines crawl your blog. This helps in increasing the search engines' page rank of your blog.

9. Link to authority sites:

Make sure to include outbound links to your posts especially when you are citing sources. Your contents get more credibility by doing so.

Every outbound links must be to relevant authority sites. For example, if your contents are about blog traffic, link to any source from google.

10. Write long contents:

Studies have shown that the longer your contents are the higher your search engines' ranking. probably they assume that long contents means quality contents. The other effect is that long contents will increase the time spent on your blog by your visitors thereby reducing bounce rate.
