NEWS Our Vodacom Challenge campaign continued in Cape Town with a 2-1 victory over Orlando Pirates. It was a reverse of the scoreline on our last visit in 2003 and goals from Darren Bent and Wayne Routledge made the difference, although Pirates did reduce the deficit with a three-times taken penalty five minutes from time. Just three players who started our opening game against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday were on duty at the beginning of the encounter with Orlando Pirates - Younes Kaboul, although he only lasted a few minutes in Durban, Jermaine Jenas and Wayne Routledge were retained. Paul Stalteri and Pascal Chimbonda got their first action of the pre-season period, while the strike pairing was Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent. Like in Durban, there was a sizzling atmosphere inside the Newlands Stadium with even the players warming up signalling an increase in the volume. The game was lively from the off on a cool evening after a day of torrential rain and it took just 12 minutes for Bent to add to his pre-season account. Tom Huddlestone pulled the strings with a flighted throughball that found the striker in the clear and our close season recruit calmly lofted the ball over Francis Chansa in the Pirates' goal and it was quickly nestling in the back of the net. Pirates responded by forcing Radek Cerny into his first save of the game when Josephy Kamwendo tried his luck from distance before a Routledge cross just evaded the lunge of Defoe at the far post. On 25 minutes though it looked like an equaliser was about to arrive when Lebohang Mokoena sprinted clear with just Cerny to beat. The goalkeeper saved, but the ball ran loose and the striker was offered a second bite, this time blasting high and wide. Just after the half hour mark, Kaboul, who was impressing with defensive solidity, showed that he has a mean shot on him too. A Huddlestone free-kick was rolled in his direction and the central defender blasted in a shot that rattled the outside of the right hand upright with Chansa beaten all ends up. Taarabt then took aim from a little further out and forced the chest of Chansa into a vital block before Bent turned provider for Huddlestone, who could not find the target from around ten yards. Mokoena blasted a cross into the path of Joseph Makhanya in the opening moments of the second half, causing a degree of confusion with no ultimate danger. Captain for the night Jenas - very much the conductor in midfield - teed up Huddlestone for a shot that Chansa did well to field and then the pass-master Huddlestone picked out a sublime defence dissecting throughball to set Bent on the run again. He beat the keeper once more, but on this occasion Destin Makita dropped deep to clear off the line. There was a sweet passage of passing and movement on 69 minutes when Taarabt and Jenas combined to pick out Routledge inside the area and the winger applied an instant touch into the path of the advanced Taarabt, who blasted goalwards, but didn't quite find the target. It marked the end of Taarabt's night as he was replaced by Jamie O'Hara, with Jenas making way for Steed Malbranque. A further goal was probably deserved but was proving to be elusive as the clock ticked towards full-time. Cerny produced a fine save to preserve our advantage ten minutes from time, palming out a free-kick from Ralph Matema. Bennet Chenane headed back across goal presenting Rudzani Ramudzuli with an opportunity in front of goal that was blazed over. Cerny saved again in spectacular fashion before Malbranque strode forward and crossed low for Routledge to drill home and double the advantage. There followed big drama at the other end when Chimbonda fouled inside the area and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Matema's spot-kick was saved by Cerny but a re-take was ordered and this time Josephy Kamwendo stepped up and Cerny saved again. Another re-take was ordered and Kamwendo did manage to find the net with ten minutes remaining, but victory was banked and it is now on to the final in Johannesburg. Pirates: Francis Chansa, 14 Lucky Lekgwathi, 28 Destin Makita, 17 Lehlohonolo Seema, 19 Innocent Mdledle, Mlingisi Gumbi, 7 Josephy Kamwendo, 24 Joseph Makhanya (20 Ramudzuli, 62), 11 Bennet Chenene, 23 Lebohang Mokoena (Teferra, 69), 36 Ralph Matema (Walaza, 80). Subs: Senzo Meyiwa, Tonic Chabalala, Linda Mkhwanazi, Luntu Mazana, Bheki Mlambo, Jorry Merahe, Tlou Segolela, Tebogo Mashaba, Manuel Bucuane. Spurs: Cerny, Chimbonda, Stalteri, Kaboul, Gardner, Routledge, Jenas (O'Hara, 69), Huddlestone, Taarabt (Malbranque, 69), Bent, Defoe. Subs: Robinson, Dawson, Rocha, Daniels, Maghoma, Zokora, Keane. |
NEWS Birmingham agree £6m fee for Mido Mido has struggled for opportunities at Spurs Birmingham have agreed a £6m deal with Spurs for striker Mido. The 24-year-old Egyptian star had been expected to move to Birmingham on a one-year loan deal after struggling to make an impact at Spurs last season. But now a permanent move has been struck, subject to Mido agreeing personal terms with Birmingham and passing a medical. Mido will be Birmingham boss Steve Bruce's biggest buy of the summer so far if the deal goes through. He is now further down the pecking order after Spurs signed Darren Bent. Birmingham boss Bruce has also made an enquiry about Mido's Egypt and Spurs team-mate, Hossam Ghaly, as he looks to build on the squad that earned promotion last season. |
Hi Loyika, Vieira and Howdy Jackal, Yeah yeah, we hear the same talk all the time, objectivity is the thing, not fanatical talk! As u said Jackal, the gap is closing! Its actually fantastic to know that the Premiership is NOT about 2 or 3 teams anymore, Fantastic , can't wait for August 11. Anyway, cant blab too much cos am rather poorly today, but we havent spent this much in previous seasons and its so good that Tottenham attracts quality players nowadays. Just investigate the transfer senerio of the period, my Lilywhites have been mentioned in numerous transfer rumours. Let The Games Begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FROM DAILY MAIL Jose's title tip? Look no further than Tottenham, Last updated at 11:04am on 19th July 2007 Comments Jose Mourinho believes this Tottenham are serious contenders in this year's Premier League championship race. The Chelsea manager is convinced big-spending Spurs have the artillery to contend for the coveted crown and has been impressed that they fended off the predators interested in picking off star player Dimitar Berbatov during the summer. Straight talking: Mourinho Read more, Kenyon blocks Wright-Phillips switch as he fears Tottenham challenge Tottenham striker set for Lions loan City and Villa move for Tottenham defender Berbatov ready for contract talks at Spurs - but in his own time Spurs teenager faces Nordic challenge Glen's key for Spurs The Arsenal legend who'll switch to White Hart Lane if SWP makes his move Terry's unlucky break upsets Chelsea's plans Strachan is ready to root for Beckham Beckham samples a drop of reality Wenger: Summer signings are not so super Premier League Rumour Mill: Hammers look to LuaLua Mourinho said: "I look at Manchester in the same way I look at all the others and not as a stronger candidate. "I'm convinced Chelsea will be a very strong team and we don't have to have fear about taking on any opponent. "But the champions will be from this group of five teams. There are more rivals than just Manchester. "At Liverpool there has been a big investment in three important attacking players. "Arsenal have a young, high-quality squad. And there's Tottenham, who have the potential to fight for the title after investment without losing their most important players — starting with Dimitar Berbatov. Because of that we are in a very strong league." Mourinho's comments come a day after it was revealed top brass at Chelsea, including chief executive Peter Kenyon, are reluctant to sell Shaun Wright-Phillips to Spurs because their fear the developing power at White Hart Lane. Mourinho also added that becoming kings of Europe is not necessarily his main priority this season. "There is no obsession to win the Champions League on my part," he added. "My obsession is to work harder and better to improve the quality of football practised by the team. I want to win everything but I know I have to be conscious you can't always win everything." |
Tottenham Spurs are moving in on Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips and could take their summer spending to almost £50 million with the £12 million acquisition. But Chelsea's Peter Kenyon doesnt want to sell, saying Spurs will be a threat to them soon, so they want to offload him instead to Aston Villa! Greedy Lot! Hi Xsay, how are u ?? |
NO they dont come with radio, my 30GB has no radio , U have to buy the radio bit as an accessory! What do u think abt the iphone? |
Mustay// I guess there's always an excuse, But Sheva's not that BAD! I think his play is not really suited for the Premiership (Not Physical enough!) |
He is still young Sheva was a bit on the older side at 30, and Sheva already had titles (less drive) & Lots and Lots of pressure on him! |
Rumour Mill - We want Boateng "The Ghetto Kid" from Herta Berlin, Very Highly rated!!! |
Tottenham Hotspur remain keen to sign Curtis Davies from West Bromwich Albion despite yesterday recruiting the France Under-21 defender Younes Kaboul from Auxerre. Spurs are prepared to pay £6m for Davies and offer Wayne Routledge, valued at £2.5m by the north London club, as part of the deal. That package, however, does not appeal to Albion, with the Championship club demanding more for a player who attracted a £10m bid last year. Davies has already had a transfer request rejected by Albion but privately they are resigned to losing their captain. There was interest from Portsmouth last summer as well as Arsenal but, after a largely disappointing season which was interrupted by injury and a loss of form, Tottenham have emerged as the only suitors this summer. Martin Jol rates Davies highly and, with Anthony Gardner set to move on, the Spurs manager is eager to increase his defensive options. Using Routledge as a makeweight in the Davies transfer would help Spurs reduce the financial burden but it is understood that the former Crystal Palace winger, who spent last season on loan at Fulham, is not keen on playing in the Championship. Moreover, Albion do not believe he is worth £2.5m, presenting an impasse that will be overcome only if Spurs strengthen their interest by making a straight-cash bid nearer the £8m mark. Kaboul's transfer fee has not been disclosed but it is thought to be around £8m. His arrival represents a major coup, with Inter and Roma also interested. Kaboul will compete for a place with Michael Dawson and Ledley King, who is currently recovering from knee surgery and facing a race to be fit for the new season. "Younes has power, pace and is good on the ball and strong in the air," said Tottenham's sporting director, Damien Comolli. "He is a good leader who showed a great desire to come to us despite interest and offers from numerous other clubs." King's persistent injury problems prompted Comolli to search for a potential replacement. Kaboul has featured regularly in the Auxerre first team for the past two seasons and, at 21, is in keeping with Spurs' policy of signing players with potential. "If you ask people in France who is seen as the hottest prospect in defence, they will say Younes Kaboul," added Jol. ENIC has made an offer for the remaining shares in Tottenham but taking 100% control of the club appears unlikely. After buying Sir Alan Sugar's shares for £25m the sports and media group has made a mandatory cash offer for the remainder of the club under City rules but is understood to be happy with the club being on the Stock Exchange.

Just shows how illiterate some people are about supporting a club! So the moment theY dont play well you DUMP THEM? ThanK God none of you supported Nottingham Forest (2 time European Cup Winners)! They are currently in the playoffs for the Championship. Spora, football support is about passion for a team and never letting failure change your desire for that team. When you watch Championship, League One or Conference matches in the UK, u see the love and affection for a team when theY score, when they lose etc etc, Anyway, am actually fatigued with this tirade/banter of educating some of you guys, I havent been here for a while and the season is over. My Lily Whites came 5th for the second successive season, quite good cos we were involved in so many matches and were sometimes a bit stretched but we were still respectible at the end of the day, I want to specifically Thank: Martin Jol, Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane, Didier Zakora, Aaron Lennon, Hossam Ghaly, Jermaine Jenas, Jermain Defoe, Teemu Tainio, Michael Dawson, Ledley King, Anthony Gardner, Paul Robinson, Pascal Chimbonda, Lee Young Pyo, Tom Huddlestone, Stead Malbranque, Paul Stalteri, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Philip Ifil, Ricardo Rocha . Radek Cerny, Ahmed Mido, and even Danny Murphy AND ALL THE OTHERS (who didnt play much), They all gave me something to be proud and passionate about, more than anything else , especially this season, THANK YOU GUYS!!!
|
Thank you Loyika!!!!!!! Good Show! Anyway, Sevilla Tonite, Your take on the match ![]() |
Actually, this topic is not necessary. Everyone knows Liverpool has more pedigree than Arsenal (If we wanna be honest), Liverpool was the dominate force in the 70s and early 80s in British football, So why the noise of Arsenal getting spanked?? |
But seriously, forget the League places and the number of pirated Arsenal shirts you see all over Naija and the noise you all make and all and all, who is actually having a better season VIEIRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Vieira!! How Arsenal doing these days? ![]() |
Hi Xsay! How are you? Now we are 6th on the table, Everton drew and we remain 6th!! Actually Arsenal stittering at the moment are not to far off, Read a poll in guardianunlimited and people have predicted higher that Spurs will take the last champions league position at the end of the season. That may look far fetched, but Arsenal is AWFUL Now, they will bounce back from their defaet against Liverpool, but they arent to far away for US!!!!!!!!! Anyway we have Sevilla on Thursday and Chelsea on Staurday! Lets wait and see whats gonna happen! They say we are having a bad season, how bad can it be, ?? |
Nice Topic, Nostalgia all the way How about Furo Iyaneme? Andrew Uwe Sam Pam John Benson Tarila Okorowanta Clement Temile (Toto Tamuz of Israels father) Monday Odiaka |
@WormedUp My bro: You still dont get it, Its not a cradle thang. I NEVER said its the number of years uve been supporting a team, Its just that when u want to go for a job interview learn about the company youre going to. Know what they do! Knowledge of your club (To me) is essential dont start shouting this for life or that for life and cursing and shouting and fighting, YES you probably heard about the fight and a knife in someones head cos of so called support for Arsenal! Bet the guy never knew Christopher Wreh or how many FA Cups Arsenal has won, Support with sense! However, I also guess football is a personal & passionate thang, that explains the fighting, but how abt the other teams in the Premiership? They dont exist abi? Well, thank God They have REAL support, see their fans and those in League One or the Conference, the Leyton Orients, Luton Towns or the Plymouth Argyles at the stadiums , their fans are OBVIOUSLY real, If u dont get it I understand, It may be my opinion or my take, I wish the Nigerian League was just as good so US all will be as passionate about our teams here, I'll still be in the Stadium with my dear Shooting Stars at Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ekotedo in Ibadan! Verdict: Its a DSTV thang cos access to the games made younger people choose teams, unfortunately they only chose 4 out of 20. what happened to the rest?? Villa Park? Goodison Park? I don tire to dey talk o!! Maybe am just old fashioned. |
@Wormedup : Nah!! Its not getting to much. @Chuckdee : I really dont have any beef with Mourinho. YES he makes noise, YES he reaped some of the benefits from Ranieri, The John Terry's, Petr Cech etc But he brought in Good Players like Essien too. I really think he added spice to the English game. He made it more competitive and fun, on the other hand it made fans militant towards each other. What bugs me mostly is the so called fans of that know nothing! Absolutely nothing! And the cursing, shouting and claiming 'for ever or for life support', Period: Its just become FASHIONABLE, Just a trend like when people in Naija say: 'No Long Thang or whats the Koko, Like D'Banj', A trend. But guess what, it will fade away soon. Then we will continue to enjoy the beautiful game! |
Hahahahahahaha!! I notice the person that started the thread has finally changed Stationery Stores (3SC) to Shooting Stars (3SC). Guess youre finally getting your proper football education! By the way have you ever heard of Mean Machine OR Bodija Bombers ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Those were the teams I played for between the ages of 13 and 20 in UI & Bodija in Ibadan. Yes those are my favorite teams, The Nostalgia it brings is better than the Chelseas, Arsenals or even my darling Spurs! Those were my Favorite Teams! |
Chuckdee youre right to be pissed off about US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had the game won at StamfoRD Bridge, its so obvous that we put ourselves under pressure at the Lane, Yeah, youre right about the money factor in football. I actually used to love Chelsea back then with Vialli, Gullit, Wise etc in their fold. Its just sometimes irritating when people just come out of the blues and start supporting a club with some kinda passion cos they're the rave of the moment. In fact I have no beef with any club, I love watching good football and Ronaldo, Henry, Drogba, Martins, Sissoko, Anelka etc etc I can go on and on and on , There are some players I always wanna watch and admire, But when people become illiterate and abusive and talk about a team that they dont have an iota of knowledge about, its irritating!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really is!!!!!!! ![]() |
Did Chelsea ever win the Premiership till recent, ?Lets be realistic teams evolve just like how PSG which entered the French first division in 1973 suddenly became a force in the league, Now they are facing relegation. Spurs no doubt and that is the truth are a good team. You cannot fault them. Yes we are evolving , Yes we are finally spending lil cash, Yes we arent up there yet, but remember we arent poor and we dont need cash, our part owners are 2nd and 5th in the richest people in football in England out of 100 players, owners etc. We all know Abrahimovich is no 1. Gradually my friend, my young lads are getting there. We actually can still get the 5th spot again, cos there are only 2 points btw US, Everton and Bolton. Think about it, most smaller clubs that go to Europe always capitulate in the Premiership, we are still doing rather well. Thats all! |
OK You win, was always going to be tough since we didnt finish u for house. Good goals from ur strikers. |
Nice once Chuckdee, Guess Senderos wants nothing better than both Clubs losing at the end of the day! Poor Chap! |
Vieira!! How now? Nice of you to connect to the Spurs Show. Theo Walcott out for the season?? Didnt know that, How sad! Pity about u guys sha, What happened? What's ur take on Chelsea / Spurs tonite? |
SMART? OK if you say so, But just a reminder to the so called people that 'understand footie', Stationery Stores is not also 3SC as you put in your poll. 3SC is IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan!! |
??
