Politics › Re: Fuel Price Hike Imminent by DisGuy: 9:16am On Jun 07, 2008
“The Federal Government is pleased to announce the extension of the moratorium on the current N70 per litre pump price of petrol ahead of the expiration of the agreement between it and the organised labour with an agreement in principle that the pump price will be adjusted by 1st January 2009.”
“The constructive engagement of all stakeholders in handling the issue of pump price has yielded this laudable gesture by the Federal Government. The announcement should put to rest the rumours making the rounds that a hike in the pump price of petrol was imminent since the accord reached between the labour and the Federal Government will expire on June 24th 2008.
“I want to urge the organised labour, all stakeholders and indeed all Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of the Federal Government in this regard.
“This gesture also portrays the present administration as responsive to the feelings of Nigerians.”
He stated that the continued subsidy on fuel would cost the government about N500 billion, attributing the reappearance of long queues at filling stations to fears of a petrol price increase.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had in the twilight of his administration last year increased the price of petrol from N65 to N75 and increased the Value Added Tax (VAT) from five per cent to 10 per cent.
Thisday
Punch

the best thing is to announce the price now so it can come in by January 2009
a bit like the electricity tariff that will come in by 2011
Politics › Re: Fuel Price Hike Imminent by DisGuy: 7:27pm On Jun 04, 2008
thats true you know, we don't have a minister for health!
seems all the good guys/girls are running away from that post after what happened to prof.
the post is 'reserved' for Lagos right?
Politics › Re: Fuel Price Hike Imminent by DisGuy: 7:09pm On Jun 04, 2008
nah this yaradua does seem to have the liver for an agbero fight, you should watch the way he behaves whenever he is in lagos, grin way different from sleepy katsina

the time is almost ripe for a good riot, fuel price, food price, electricity, Benin-ore road, high unemployement, contractors have not been paid and withheld pension- damn Nigerians are patient!
Politics › Re: Fuel Price Hike Imminent by DisGuy: 6:51pm On Jun 04, 2008
Im not too sure how this works but the money bugdeted for most department is not enough and N326b will go along way
the problem with the fund is some governors claim. its illegal at the same time they want it 'shared'
The nass and ministry of finance are the ones holding nigeria back!
the only things the NASS can approve at this time is an increase in their salaries, anything else will be postponed!
and the finance is blabbing on about not wanting to release money because of inflation!

very soon Nigerians will show yaradua their true colours! grin
Politics › Re: Fuel Price Hike Imminent by DisGuy: 6:30pm On Jun 04, 2008
well the previous govts made a right old mess of the refineries, they only start giving out licenses for refineries
about 3-4 years ago so we have to rely on imported fuel, if the govt is to remove subsidies or continue to subsidize petrol
at this rate most department will suffer from the perennial 'lack of funding' syndrome.

I think its about time the CBN/ minister of finance and all those economic buff start thinking of spending from the reserve
the world economy is biting hard and its affecting developing countries more!

the previous govts messed up agriculture and power sector also now we have to deal with high food price and high cost of manufacturing/processing
Foreign Affairs › Re: Hillary Clinton For President by DisGuy: 6:15pm On Jun 04, 2008
noetic:
thanks mister, and this is just after they have both broken all records from finance to turn out . . . . . . .

when was the last democrat primary to run down the line like this, with the difference in delegates less than 200huh??
think hard because there has been none. one thing u must have observed is that 80% of obamas superdelegates are in support of him because he is leading, meaning that was it the other way round hillary will be the nominee.

with the gap so close and so much polarity coupled with his lack of expirience, the only way out for obama is a hillary vice presidency.
else its up Mc cain.

and who told u Hillary wont be back? cry
SEE give Obama some credit, the guy was able to raise a lot of money for an inexperienced politician(i believe more money than the experienced candidates), he got millions of people and the world interested in this race, though the media made it more because he was black
if Clinton was running against another candidate i believe she would have been dropped long time ago, she wont harp on about her experience and using dirty tricks, they focussed more on obama and her crying tactics throughout this campaign

I noticed the media trying to make it seem as if the only way he can win the presidency is by choosing hillary, thats
just scheming to me, i personally think he should overlook Hillary for making him work harder than necessary grin
he should choose a very good democrat with economic sense and maybe a bit of military background!

I know americans are very crazy but do you really think American want another bush with Mccain?

why are they so big on candidates with war/military experience in that country

on Friday the 30th of May 2008,I was at the local airport to buy an Arik airline ticket to Enugu.I was told I could only get a ticket at the international airport.I got there and was on the queue for over 2 hrs.The staff were so nasty and unprofessional. They were reserving seats for touts who will now resell to geniune travellers at a premium.I was informed to be at the international airport the following morning.I got there by 6.30am as that day was environmental day only to be told to go back to the local airport as they would be taking off from there.I rushed back to local airport and a staff of Arik air told me I couldnt get a boarding pass as the gate had been closed. He told me to 'see' a particular guy,a tout to be able to get a boarding pass. Its so terrible what these local airlines do.I wonder what it costs them to sell their tickets online.
are there no managers at the airportshuh

Rlst84sale:
[s]Can't you guys inform the minister of aviation[/s] and get them to do an undercover investigation? or get them on a small recorder with your cell phone or something?. Or can someone send this thread to the appropriate agency in Nigeria or IATA (International Air Travel Association)?, I hope I got that right.
you want to see a minister in nigeria? lmao
you'll never see one of those, seeing a manager/supervisor is hard already
you'll kind of expect local TV and newspapers journalist to do this undercover sting
when a foreign journalist splash this over the internet then they'll start moaning

and these are not even govt organisations, these are private companies recruiting crooks!!
Politics › Re: Fuel Price Hike Imminent by DisGuy: 5:31pm On Jun 04, 2008
The people making the money will probably be those importing petrol

would you like the govt to remove subsidies ? grin

Politics › Re: How Come Its Only Nigerians Abroad That Are Complaining by DisGuy: 3:25am On Jun 03, 2008
Sometimes I wonder, if a top Nigerian official came to you and gave you a contract to make you financially set, I bet many won't be complaining and wont really care about the poor or poverty in Nigera, so may be we should look at things differently, what do yáll think.
Contract is not a bad thing though, its normal business around the world isn't it?
Politics › Re: How Come Its Only Nigerians Abroad That Are Complaining by DisGuy: 3:23am On Jun 03, 2008
You are acting as if Nigerians in nigeria don't complain.

And comparing nigeria to other countries is not exactly a bad thing, that's how people and things develop
Most countries do it even the developed ones to improve certain aspect of their infrastructure/society
Sports › Re: Female Rugger, Nigerians And Rugby by DisGuy: 2:49am On Jun 03, 2008
I played as a left wing in school, touch rugby though.

the day I made the school first team, one of the player broke his nose tongue

I like watching the main tournaments, especially when its not muddy like the leagues in England

If you are very fast just opt to play as a winger, that way when a fat bugger is coming you can run into touch wink
Politics › Re: How Will You Rate The Performance Of The State Governors ? by DisGuy: 12:08am On Jun 02, 2008
Na Wa O no one is talking, its very obvious people expect yaradua to come to their state to do the things their immediate governor promised, I have all said it, people don't know who to hold responsible sometimes.

The states have their own budgets and house reps don't they?
everyone is focused on Abuja as usual

Pastorking why don't you start with portharcourt?

The publicity and income generated is more than he can ever get

it wont see the light of day, its against EU labour laws anyway

zillaxy:
i think if u had actually read the article u would not respond this way.

the point isn't just the make shift houses they are building now (which by the way after massacres in nigeria, many would welcome) but also the speed they are rebuilding the 'concrete' houses. by june!
how many Nigerian govt have built houses for the poor in 2yrs? much less under 2 months?
I actually read the article and I'm not surprised at all just making a side point, they have all the resources
in place-the finance, the 'structure' and manpower
there are many reasons why nigeria can't be like that for now at least.

on the other hand could the upcoming Olympic games act as a catalyst,
considering there are many nosey western tourist coming through
the Chinese govt have been surprisingly open in the past few weeks.

Hi Guys, My sister's passport was stolen over the weekend during an armed robbery attack. She had booked an appointment at the American embassy last week for June before the passport was stolen and has tried to contact them to find out how she could still maintain her appointment date or get a new one with a new passport. I would appreciate your responses as she is meant to travel for medical treatment.
she didn't get through?

that is basically put together with pre-fabricated materials?
even as a gift??
Politics › Re: Should We Be Preparing For President Jonathan? by DisGuy: 2:18pm On May 28, 2008
doyin13:
Hmmm. . . .

What do you think of Jonathan as President then?

Considering, he has not/never actually contested an election as the frontrunner, yet might occupy a presidential post.

I think it would be one way to get a Niger Deltan into the top post. They have no chance otherwise.
Are you saying the Niger Delta people cannot boast of clean, credible and widely accepted individual(s)huh tongue shocked

GJ as president will be a disaster, they will run him over! remember he has always played second fiddle courtesy of the party-with no significant input (apart from snitching on mr blobby-alams), he has no real following in his state talk less of nigeria.

come to think of it, GJ and his boss dont really want to be where they are right now!
Politics › Re: Yar'adua- One Year After- Ft Interview by DisGuy(op): 5:14am On May 27, 2008
I think the present setting in the country actually encompasses the big and small governments u advocate. take the issue of power generation, which is on the concurrentlist of the constitution. A well meaning president will agresively advocate each state developing its power source with massive fedral assistance. that way we can generate enough power for industrilization. the same goes for education, the fedral government is not constitutionally empowered to get involved in secondary and primary education. but the question is has yaradua made this one of the major priorities of the relevant levels of government.I still advocate a total overhaul of the system. be it small or big government they have collectively failed us.
With regards to the power situation, I think majority of state governors lack initiative to be honest.
you hear of contracts of $50m+ going for irrigation and foreign development grants running into several
millions coming into the states regularly; at $1m per 1mw, some state can easily raise funds or access grants
to build power generating plants even if it is just 200MW over a period of three to four years
except there is some sort of law restricting the states from generating (their own)
electricity they can come to an agreement with PCHN to at leat 50% distributed within the
states.
