maxell:
Precisely. His case is still pending at the tribunal, so he might not even make it to 2011.

But seriously, how can anyone expect to rule nigeria in a democratic setting and just fill all the
prominent cabinet slots with a bunch of Northerners ?

- Look at what is going on at Tinapa, yar'adua's administration has virtually put that project on hold

- The power projects at the Niger delta have been put on hold

- Even the lagos atlantic city project undertaken by Fashola and some private investors, the fed govt is intervening;
they are claiming it is federal property, not lagos'
what exactly do you mean when you say prominent slots? do you mean lucrative, 'juicy' slots?

when a southerner appoints a northerner people rarely complain, but when a northerner appoints a northerner . . .

for all you know these people might just coincidentally be the people next in line anyway- deputies and co

yaradua shouldn't make the mistake Obj made in his first stint appointing politicians instead of technocrats!!

Nigerians are not bad as portrayed by foreigners.
Its a matter of Nigerians comepting with them in every facet of there socio-econmic life.
Our people are very proud, arrogant and sometimes desperate, these kind of attitudes in a foreign will always make them offensive.
being very proud, arrogant and desperate is a bad thing everywhere!!
I think it is even more offensive for you to suggest that these attitudes are not offensive to Nigerians!

another excuse is that they are jealous of us huh

very few things to be proud of anyway

most of what i wrote were obviously exaggerated but at current price their reserve is worth about $14trillion*, the current economy might be worth less than NJ but US will definitely be getting a good chunk of that money!

what other countries benefits from Iraqi oil is peanuts to what the Americans will get for a very looooong time!

Cheney still have stock options with haliburton!! Laura bush is linked with a company rebuilding hospitals and clinics!

* can't remember the precise amount from the doc.

texazzpete:
There seems to be some disconnect here.
The title said the war was about oil, but the article points to war profiteering by contractor companies.

There's a difference between these two. please clarify
99.02% of those companies are American companies!!!
some linked with Laura bush, Cheney, retired military general etc

Can you compare what US has lost in that War with what you falsely claimed as the gain so far? Why making your slice up on the war without proof to back it up?
when you are starting a business you normally run a loss for several years before making crazy profits!!!
the US is basically investing in iraq! (almost)every single thing is being supplied by American companies, the drilling the trading, the security of the oil facilities are in the hands of the Americans; 100 years to come they'll still be getting their cut!

so where are the wmds

It was gathered that many of the stockbrokers are even more worried by the decision of the NSE to stop stockbroking firms from raising funds through private placements for purpose of the recapitalisation.
Few of the stockbroking firms have issued their shares through private placement in order to source for funds. But Okereke-Onyiuke said that the Exchange would not allow any stockbroking firm to be listed.

I think not. The emphasis seems to be more on innovation. On the particular ad in question, a brand new car lease ad will inevitably have some status element to it.

The project is to be implemented by the Federal Ministry of Transportation.

Properties › Re: Why Pay House Rent In Advance? by DisGuy: 6:40pm On Jun 11, 2008
JJay1:
Why do you have to pay rent in advance? Simple, because of gross imbalance in supply and demand.

There are millions of potential tenants against very few landlords, thereby giving the landlord more negotiation power. It simple law of economics and the situation can only be solved with economics. If the cost of building materials are within the reach of the lowest paid in Nigeria, the table shall surely turn in favour of tenants.

I can only laugh when people are advocating laws to prosecute landlords for collecting rents in advance, and if the Attorney-General actually recommended that law, then he must really be an slowpoke who should have nothing to do with the law profession. Why? Because if you jail someone for collect rent in advance, in order for balance in law, then you have to jail a tenant for defaulting in rent payment.

And considering that there are much more tenants in Naija than landlords, that means that the law will hit much harder in the poor (tenants) which, given the situation of economic hardship in Naija, are more likely to default than landlords defaulting. Our inadequate jails will then be filled up with tenants.

For those who uses UK as example, my question to them is that do we have same economy in Naija as UK? There is no national credit database or electoral record that shows whre everyone lives at any given point in time.
I don't think the AGF is talking about sending people to jail, its still an option landlord won't force tenants

i now understand that there are two sides, the tenant and
the landlord each protecting his interest. just as ireke puts
it, if a person used his own hard earn money to build a house
for rent and the tenant refused to pay him for 3 years how
will he feel. we actually need something to balance the both

sides and as suggested, its the government that will come
in. i am not satisfied with the way our rent tribunals are
handling matters.

for those of you who are staying in other parts of the world
how does the tenant/landlord relationship exist?
oh boy why will i allow someone stay in my house for three years without
paying? I think nigerians are generally 'kind' when it comes to these sort of things
I personally will not let my house to unemployed people/recently employed graduates
a man with more than 3 kids grin except in some cases.

another thing is people should anticipate the condition of the tenants, always check how they are doing
in terms of work and business

Generally an average Nigeria don't like to pay bills.
no wonder they complain when they reach obodo oyinbo as if they are not the one
using the phone,electricity, etc tongue
Properties › Re: Why Pay House Rent In Advance? by DisGuy: 2:14pm On Jun 10, 2008
that's true because most landlords are very eager to get their investment back to build another house, throw a party, pay school fees or marry another wife grin

Another issue is budget people are used to it the way it is so they dont mind (well they are not complaining)
I think people (landlords, agents) should start collecting rent by direct debit so no excuse at month end

they'll definitely be a premium on pay as you go for the convenience
Properties › Re: Why Pay House Rent In Advance? by DisGuy: 2:08pm On Jun 10, 2008
Mr Michael Aaondakaa, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minster of Justice, in May requested state commissioners of justice to initiate legislation to prohibit landlords from collecting house rents in advance.

Aaondokaa had argued that most Nigerians even in the formal sector did not earn income in advance to make up the payment of rents in the same proportion.
