Why are you being extra nice? You said the truth and should offer no apologies. Who has a beta info can share but for now I have the same thought as you.
Saipro:
Heh heh heh. That's an amusing thing to quote. I 100% understand what richmon74 is saying. I think I'll sum it up as a wrong choice of words and ... well ... tempers. He sounds kinda inflammed ... but I could be mistaken - I offer my apologies in advance. It's true no system will offer you more than 100% efficiency much less 100% yield. The problem is in looking solely at the output and not the mechanics. Indeed, no solar panel is capable of 50% output at the moment. Even 25% is an overkill. The argument is about the total power output versus the rated power output. Once more, I could be mistaken but solar cells are pretty inefficient but ... we have lots of free sun so almost any inefficiency (so long as there's enough space and support for the panels) is acceptable. So, if you see a 200W panel generating 250W, consider the other variables.

By the way, some reputable companies, in order to protect their reputation, quote the minimum specs on their panels. One could almost argue they're under-rating their panels. Like Solarworld and Canadian solar. Then again, I believe that should be the norm, to guarantee customer satisfaction.

Caveat: Should I have offended anyone at all with my post, I apologise. I expect no reprissals, please. I truly am rusty and haven't dusted my books in a while but it is to my understanding that not much of the fundamentals have changed. Thank you.

EDIT: I wish to not have my head being bitten off so I'll state here that higher efficiency experimental cells exist but nothing of the sort commercially. Thank you once more

Its possible...a phenomenon called solar glare. You know solar panel are rated under standard test conditions where light intensity is 1000w/m^2 but there are rare occasions where the sun's rays are dispersed by a cloud causing illuminance higher than 1000W/m2. So if 1000w/m2 illuminance gives 130W, you would expect 1200w/m2 to give above 130w. However this is very rare.
battleaxe:
@bodejohn, dmerciful, pranil, all etc.

Is it possible to get 130W from a 130W solar panel?

Thanks.
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 12:42pm On Sep 23, 2016
This has nothing to do with the inverter voltage. 74V between the panel and CC is high enough to offer lower current flow and as such lower cable diameter. ofcourse btw the CC and batteries needs to be thick and short as possible. 8mm wire is pretty thick for 74v for a distance of 100ft
kiekie1:
Hmmmn , he can manage that for now since panels aint much on PWM but i feel 10mm ought to be his least for that distance on a 24v inverter VDC system and for futuristic upgrade sake ! He can contact me if he needs 10mm×2 flex copper fire resistant armoured solar cable... Cheers
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 6:29am On Sep 23, 2016
I will recommend 6mm-8mm
anidat77:
Ok cool....just one more question, what wire size 6mm or 4mm etc do you recommend for a length of 100ft between CC and panels?
Isc is 8.80A while Imp is 8.18A on the panel.

My recommendation will be to connect 3 string of 2 panels in series then parallel these 3 strings so that overall Voc will be 74.8V.(ie 2*2*2). This is best configuration for your system. 2 string of 3 panels will not work because the total voltage of 112.2V will exceed the CC 100V max limit.
anidat77:
@DMerciful......each panel has Voc 37.4V... 6 panels.
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 6:21am On Sep 22, 2016
You need to provide this important info to enable right advice.
What is the Voc ( open circuit voltage) of the panels? Its written on the name plate of the panel
anidat77:
Hello Gurus, my 6 pcs of (200W @ 24V) solar panels are going to be located through 100ft cable lenght from the Epsolar MPPT 40amps CC,
What would be the best option in terms of solar panel configuration (ie series or parallel) and wire size to reduce current loss and not exceed Max MPPT input voltage of 100v on a good sunny day.

I'm sure there are people here with my same set up maybe with shorter cable distances, but please let me have your suggestions.

@Kiekie...my wahala don dey plenty o....if not for leaking pockets that 80amps outback solar charger would have healed my sores on this issue.

Are we going to buy it if they make it? how many people buying locally made inverter? i do not want to sound politically correct, before we start making high tech devices, we must have started producing transistor radio and pocket calculator. you know battery is a chemical cell that should involve high quality control in its production esp something use at home! mind you it contains acid! you dont want self inflicted bokoharam! Let us start small from finger batteries biko grin

Go with this option,no need to worry yourself.
You can connect the 80W in series and the 120W in series then parallel these 2 strings...the might me a little loss due to d slight voltage difference but its pretty small.
codemaster2much:
it is a 12v battery system. And the 80watt is poly while the 130 is mono. Don't know where to get the 10mm cable, check both jumia and konga . undecided
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 8:52am On Sep 15, 2016
if you system is 24v inverter, PWM will not be efficient for use in the 80W series so get another small mppt. if your system is 12v, then connect the 80W in parallel with at least 10mm cables through ur PWM to your battery while the 130W should be in series through the mppt to ur battery.
codemaster2much:
I have an mppt and a pwm I was using before... Do you think this is OK and how can I connect them.
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 6:12am On Sep 15, 2016
You can connect the 80W in series and the 120W in series then parallel these 2 strings...the might me a little loss due to d slight voltage difference but its pretty small. Or better still get 2 small mppt and run the two panel type separately to ur battery.
codemaster2much:
80w is 21.6 while the 130watt is 22
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 9:56pm On Sep 14, 2016
give more details...whats the Voc of the 130W and 80W?
codemaster2much:
Guys need advise, what is the best way to connect 130watt x2
And 80watt x2 to get the best power from the system to charge my battery {200ah}

Do you know how people react when a woman is part of a robbery gang? Nobody cares about her unclothedness, thats the least of her worries right now. do you see her covering her breast? she has far bigger worry why you are here worrying about her breast! She is there thinking about her life and what she has gotten herself into, you are here thinking about her breast! grin

Is removing her top a punitive method for stealing??

Good people of this forum,

seems the world is moving towards lithium ion batteries as they have over 2000 cycles at about 90% DOD. they live over 5 times lead acid batteries when subjected to same DOD. anybody who have more insight and where to get these batteries cheaply should share.

cheers

i love your drive and your reason. 40 panels? you go dey sell to ur neighbors o!
Anyway, i have a modest system of 750W but want to increase to 1000W however even with this 750W with mains supply, i have not on gen for more than 6 months...last time i tried to put on the gen to warm it before it forgets to work, it refused to start and the process of trying, the chord snapped, ofcourse the key no longer work cos the kickstarter battery is dead from lack of usage.
Still in someone's house house with little space but i already budgeted like 1.5M when i fix ma crib cheesy
i love this forum.
GeorgeD1:
iLoveTheSun,
the bolded couldn't be more true. and, personally, that was the motivation behind my solar initiative from day one.
i always thought to myself, "if i can spend 3 million and above to buy a car that takes me from point a to point b
and on a good day i only get to spend at most 1 hour, two hours or even three hours in that car, why then shouldn't
i spend an equivalent amount to make my home comfortable to live in? a house i spend over eight to twelve hours
in everyday?" for me, it just didn't make sense riding a car fitted with ac and being comfortable for one hour only to
arrive home, park that same car and you enter into a house with no lights, no fan, waiting for when phcn will restore
public power or on the alternative going to struggle with a fuel guzzling generator when you could have all this with
the flick of a switch.
so, suddenly solar began to make more sense to me, regardless of the amount i was spending to put those 40 panels
on my roof.
