You guys don't get it! A Nigerian president does not have the constitutional powers to restructure Nigeria! Only the national assembly can but then it is dominated by Hausa/Fulani who wants the status quo to remain since it benefits them. When will you my people have sense? Omololu007: what stopped GEJ from restructuring the country, when he was the president? |
Politics › Re: Niger Delta Republic By NDA, A Joke Taken Too Far by DMerciful(m): 6:18am On Aug 20, 2016 |
I consider you and intelligent person and as such I know you know using the current national assembly to demand restructuring is almost an impossible mission as we do not have the numbers and unity to achieve that. Even a chilkd knows that so why towing a line you cannot achieve for another 100years? Our representative will not push for that in the national assembly cos its DOA. Your hero Adaka Boro and Saro Wiwa we also called criminals then but now you worship them.....truth is there is nothing like one Nigeria rather one oil Nigeria TonyeBarcanista: This is but emotional song my brother.
We are all in Nigeria and I am not the type that succumb to these kind of words. You keep saying Hausa/Fulani, and I begin to wonder whether the hausa/Fulani are the people "representing me" in the center stage and at state level to defraud me of my legitimate resources.
A man like Boro, a legend per excellence will always remain in my books. To him, it was not a fight against any particular tribe but against a system. I wont go further so as not to cause ethnic riot here.
You keep talking of Hausa/Fulani, but how many of our representative from the Ijaw nation or SS has deemed fit to make formal request for restructuring since 1999? How many state houses of Assembly have passed a resolution to demand for restructuring>? My own idea of restructuring is not about my tribesman assuming power, if it was Niger Delta would have been paradise between 2010 and 2015. It is about a systematic change, which must be achieved holistically.
As for the militants, we know what they are really after and their antecedents, so they cant be supported. In fact, I am against negotiating with them or conceding to them. Let heaven fall. |

That's one reason fence mount is better than roof mount.....roof increases the panels operating temperature due to heat xfer and low air flow btw panel and roof interface. Fence mount or structure mount has exposed bottom for good ventilation and subsequent cooling. iLoveTheSun: Regarding STC, that's the reason why some people build water cooling pipes on the back side. They generate hot (or rather warm) water and cool down the solar cells at the same time, i.e. increase the energy efficiency by 20 - 25%.
Those modules are called Solar Thermal Photovoltaic Hybrid Modules... |
Science/Technology › Re: Thread For Solar System/Electricity Owners in Nigeria. by DMerciful(m): 7:40pm On Aug 19, 2016 |
Currently I install my panel almost horizontal cos at the equator(we are actually about 7° towards the north) the sun is vertically overhead at midday. The sun moves from tropic of Capricorn to tropic of cancer on 6mionths basis with us at almost d middle so better to install almost horizontal with about 7 ° facing south which will also serve as natural washing angle. iLoveTheSun: @DMerciful In general you do understand the issue correctly!
There is also NOTC or NTC (= Normal Testing Condition, or so?!?). This is rather a real world indication, because it only indicates 80% of the peak power. What STC means, is a value measured in the laboratory around the world. Either the module is manufactured in Sweden/Norway or in South Africa or in Arizona, USA. It's always the same testing condition, so that you are able to compare the product. But depending on the place of installation, e.g. in the desert of UAE or in the forest of Canada, it has different real-life performance. When STC is measured there are LED lights that are flashing for a fraction of a second 1000 Watts/m2 onto the solar panel. The solar irradiation is 1000 W/m2 hitting the module in a 90° degree. But, as you suggested correctly, the modules are in the real world inclined x° degrees, depending on the latitude on our Mother Earth! (= normally 90° - x° or 0° + x° latitude of the specific location).
So, let us assume you do have two similar solar installations. One is facing East, the other one is facing West with the same inclination. Guess, which solar installation will perform better on an annual basis? Right! The one facing to the East, because you have mentioned the points.
STC is just an indication for a moment. In the northern hemisphere, where you have frost/ice in the spring and sunshine at the same time, then you may get more than STC! ...this can happen in Canada. But not in Equatorial area. That's why vendors should always indicate "x Watts(peak*) *@STC" = no misunderstanding.
I hope it does help not to have too high expectations.
sunny regards,
iLoveTheSun

I am a complete novice in this how I was able to set this up was what I gleaned from here then gathered all the accessories over a period of about 2years.
To this end let me hail all that have contributed to this thread but most especially GeorgeD1 who invaluable early contributions really pushed me down this line. Though it seems he no longer active on the forum and to Chris81964 whose background advise has been invaluable.
I also give a shout out to all the suppliers of my solar items namely CoOgumo,Richmon,Gennextec, and the one and only Chief Marketer Kiekie I will say that I have never met anyone of them in person and we have transacted seamlessly as payment is made and items sent no long story. Anyone can deal without fear.
Though a novice let me give a little advise if it can help anyone. Start small as you will be discouraged if you try to buy everthing at once.
For the inverter please go for the high end products Magnum, Scheinder, outback, victron,SMA, as all the ogas in the house use them so that should tell you something.
Do not buy the cheap Chinese,Indian and Korean inverters. If constrained by funds go for Prag or Voltron. For the charge controller also go high end if possible with Outback, magnum midnite solar, morningstar etc. Being the top brands.
For Batteries I prefer flooded due to its resilience and particularly for the ones I am using the electrolyte indicator is a God send as you can easily see when the cells need topping off (newbies take note) . Good value for money.
A word if caution if you are using flooded batteries u should note that the popular Axpert inverter is limited to 58.4 charge which will undercharge flooded batteries and will kill them. It also cannot equalize flooded batteries you will need a good quality CC to perform that for flooded batteries. I know because that was my 1st inverter before I now went for the Outback. Also note some branded inverters advertised I see here are Axperts so you have to know the right questions to ask. That been said it served its purpose for me and now will dispose it or keep it as my back up inverter for when there is any issue with the Outback.
I strongly recommend that you protect your system from lightening strikes by using surge protectors on both the A. C and D. C sides of your system. Thank me later
Please do not ask me any technical issue as I just got the items and paid for installation.
Also do not ask for price as with the fluctuating dollar rate prices are totally crazy now so whatever I tell you will not be correct as of today. If you do not believe me agree for an order with Kiekie and you do not transfer immediately by the time you come back after a week you go know say khaki no be leather.
Solar is the only way to go as in the long run it is cheaper than the unreliable grid which makes running g generators very expensive
As a whole get the correct information before you start. My last word of advise change all yr light bulbs to low wattage LED bulbs. You will thank me later.
Installer are still tidying up the install. Will post the internal set up later. |

I see some knowledge gap here! When a panel is rated 250W apart from this peak power being achieved at STC, the sun beam must be normal to surface of solar panel to achieve peak power. Unless the panel has a tracking system, maximum you get throughout the day is average of 60% due to varying degree of the sun on the horizon from dawn till dusk. |

Read about DC to DC converters then you'll know how mppt works and fully appreciate how excess voltage is converted to current. Just a simple calibration, when a device is 99% efficient by design, and you put in 66V,10A(660W) to give 653.4W output by virtue of being 0.99 efficient. So if the output voltage is 24v, what will be the output current? This is basic physics! Trippledots: 1...mppt only helps to find the point of "maximum power" transfer and it supplies your battery at that point.this is simpy the point when the inout resistance equals the output resistance; perturbing and other methods are used to find that point in PV modules. AC can effectively convert voltage to AMPS with the use of electromagnetic induction, but we are dealing with DC. except you can tell me how the mppt converts excess voltage to current tho...
2..concerning my "number 1"...you are right but partially. distance matters from panel to CC to battery. Wherever DC is carried with significant AMPs then distance becomes important. However, proper sizing of cables conducting the DC can reduce the ohmic losses.
PS: d issue of distance is one of the reasons AC is employed in national power distribution rather than DC. |

Try buy an mppt.......d difference is clear! Common u have six panels....why can't you afford an mppt even if not brand new? Try to make ur connections neater Obimind1: That's my set up...with my 150*6=900 watts at 24v in panel I can power my fridge 110 watts and a ceiling fan and also a 45 Watts plasma TV. In as much as I can't afford the high cost of getting an mppt, I must say that my pwm charge controllers are not doing bad at all. No matter how cloudy the day might be I can always power my frigde within a minimum of 4 hours everyday, but when we have a sunny day I can power my frigde up to 6 hours from 11am to 5pm. |

You can but only during the day and the fluctuations will be massive due to clouds covers during d day. If you're in the north with little or no cloud covers, it will be OK however U're not covered at night. Then you won't need d charge controller rather direct connection to DC loads. But that's not good practice at all not to install batteries. Its like operating a cell phone without battery but constantly plugged in to socket....not designed that way samuelson06: @bolded Does that mean one can depend only on the solar panels for power without batteries?
@ timifakay, thanks for the explanation. |

Guy, a perpetual motion machine of the first kind is impossible. Do u see free energy in nature? Even the sun consumes its nuclear material to produce energy. Why not channel you energy to more productive venture? Don't mean to discourage anyone but perpetual motion is like saying there is not friction cos for a machine to work perpetually its moving parts must be 100% frictionless ceaser: Please let's not condemn or discourage him. To some extent, I think some conspiracy theories on power generation may actually be true - like killing the electric car years back in order to strengthen concentration on fossil fuels because of the returns. Battery tech was well developed back then to establish electric vehicles and some dudes had successful projects of theirs but decided to keep it underground. Years down the line, the government is right now strongly pushing the "never workable" concept of electric vehicles to move away from fossil fuels. Millions of Americans this year alone pre-ordered the new Tesla S all electric vehicle. Mercedes Benz has promised its own all electric full sized SUV to break the 500 mile per charge record.
Perpetual motion machine: Hmmm. Several theories have been proposed and a few is just logical. I give kudos to the poster because he has taken the gut to go that far in establishing the workability of that concept. If it works and if I were him, I'll likely keep it close to my chest for now.
I have though about doing some projects like such too, though with a different, more logical concept of "self-driving dynamo-motor arrangement" in which you use the left over power from the arrangement to your devices while the generator runs itself perpetually, at least until you stop it. I haven't had the time. Heck, I haven't even taken the simplest step of sourcing the materials yet even though I have the template already perfected and mapped out. That is why I give kudos to the poster for having gone this far. I will not mind him carrying me along honestly if he succeeds, not to steal his idea but it may encourage mw to start on my own quest.
OP, carry me along with your project, If you don't mind. But publicize it less because expectedly and rightly so, people express a lotta doubt about "free-energy concepts", so you can't make lotta disciples even when you have a working concept. It's the way the curriculum is programmed. So I don't blame anyone for expressing their doubts.
The system teaches you that energy is not destroyed, but converted from one form to another, yet they also contradictorily posit that you can NEVER attain a self-driving arrangement in machine even when backed with verified theories of physics. |

The mppt is designed as a DC to DC converter hence excess voltage can be converted to current at the output of the controller. In order words, the efficiency of the mppt which is way higher than the pwm controller makes the difference. Saipro: While not fully understanding you, I admit to distrusting the twin PWM setup. Not that quality of PWM in the least. I'll bring up my point later under clearer examples. |
