Smart charger are quite expensive sometimes may be more expensive than some average cost inverter. My recommendation is to get an Indian brand inverter like sulkam or mopower and also get a dissulphator. Arnod007: Please like how much can I get a smart charger, and how many Ah will I need to get the 2400va battery charged which is 2 Nos 220amp of 12v. Also will the charger revive it or I need to take it for maintenance first? So grateful for your response so far. Thanks |

Has nothing to do with the battery type. That particular inverter has poor charging system. I have used it before selling it due to this charging problem, I know about 3 persons with similar problem. You can google complaints regarding mercury 2400va low backup time/charging problems earthrealm: Op clearly said he is using the mecury flooded battery, i dont think mecury inverter has the algorithm to charge flooded batteries, it doesnt hv a battery selector...just like the old lumimous, old model cyber power and all the other old inverters, you need to buy an inverter that has a battery selector switch, and then select flooded battery.
all those inverters i listed are not designed to properly charge flooded batts, thus the batts will fail prematurely/ i dont think the damage is irreversible at this stage, get a good inverter and equlize the batteries for 12 to 24 hrs...they shud bounce back again. get a hygrometer and check the specific gravity of the electrolyte, flooded battery isnt for everybody, they require basic knowledge of physics n cghemistry and the willingness to get your hands dirty once in a while |

I was clear when I specify the model...2400VA. It may not be in all the model n that explain y urs is OK. The issue is that it cuts of charging before d battery reaches full charge thereby progressively deteriorating d battery. adanny01: But am using a Mercury 1200VA with no charging problems for over a year.
Just yesterday, grid light went off around 4pm, the inverter went off 6.30am. We slept with 2 ceiling and 1 standing fan. TV and lights were turned off around 12Midnight. The single Deka 200ah Battery was bought used.
What specifically do you think is the charging issue? |
Science/Technology › Re: How my inverter is saving me in this poor power supply and no-fuel situation by DMerciful(op): 12:11pm On Oct 24, 2016 |
No wonder! Mercury inverter 2400VA charging system is a disaster! do not use this inverter unless you're using solar system. The charging system of this inverter does not charge the batteries properly and will ruin your batteries in the shortest possible time. Get another inverter or a seperate smart charger Arnod007: Using mercury inverter 2400w and 2 Nos 200amp mercury tubular batteries, hours of NEPA light is up to 12 hours max and 5 hours minimum

You can find it where they sell building material, there they call it expansion bolt. But the right name is anchor bolt or foundation bolt. earthrealm: that installer should be shot at sunset, and shot again @ sunrise if he is still alive utter rubbish, go for mppt, is your setup 24v or 48v?, if 48v 60amp mppt wud b good, if 24, you need 80amps mppt
batteries last per load connected to it, convert the juice in ur battery to watts, and divide by the wattage of ur load, multiply by 80% to factor in losses/efficiency, or first multiply the baat wattage by 50% to get 50% dod

Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 6:20am On Oct 17, 2016 |
When it comes to solar, u want to avoid wastage as much as possible so considering PWM that will waste 20%-30% of available power is a no-no. Go for mppt of 40A-60A especially considering you planned to expand. Use 10mm cables to run the PV line so when you expand the cables will suffice. I advice u sell your 12V inverter and get at least a 24V, >=2.5kva inverter and if cost is a challenge go for the Indian brands like mopower, sulkam, nexus, luminous , the solar will definitely cover for all charging inadequacies. Also install a desulphator, its cheap. You need to spend appreciable amount when going green in order not to get frustrated with the outcome. What's ur budget and I can point u in d right direction....Whatsapp me on 08035415969 tundebabzy: Hello all, I need advice from the house.
I (regret that) I purchased a 12v tripplite inverter in 2014. I now want to go head on into solar.
I wish to power a load of 1.784kwh targeting 50% DOD for my batteries with 1 day autonomy. From my calculations, I'll need battery capacity of 297ah. I also calculated under ideal conditions, I'll need a cc of minimum of 59.5a and modules of 713.6w to juice up the batteries.
Estimated consumption: 1784wh @50% DOD: 297.3ah (2 200ah batteries) Hours of sunlight: 5 Min Charge controller size: 59.4a Solar modules: 713.6w
In the future I plan to get a bigger inverter and more modules. By the time I get a bigger higher voltage inverter, will it be better to leave my present installation and let the new inverter power the remaining load? Considering that this is a small installation and how expensive MPPT cc is, should I go for an PWM CC instead of MPPT? I want an option that is scalable and cost effective.
I look forward to your candid advice. Help a brother not to make a costly mistake. |

Super thanks....noted GeorgeD1: dmerciful,
midnite solar dc breakers or disconnects are arguably the gold standard in solar pv breakers. they may be a little expensive but over time you'll get better value for your money. while there may be other cheaper alternatives which go by different names, its always better to stick with tested brands which have proven themselves with time. in renewables, we should be careful not to sacrifice quality on the alter of low cost alternatives which do disappoint when needed most.

Oga I hail o. We are looking for low cost solutions. Kindly share this breaker u talked about GeorgeD1: dmerciful, you could avoid all these layers of complexity by just getting the right tool for the job. a rightly sized midnite solar dc breaker for your pv and cc will give you peace of mind. kiss (keep it simple and straightforward) should be our focus when it comes to renewables. the money you save trying to cut corners could come back to haunt you when you suddenly lose your precious equipment to fires or voltage spikes and you have to replace them one after the other. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 7:03am On Oct 16, 2016 |
Make sense. To solve the issues you highlighted, we could add an additional well sized breaker on the PV side on top of the double breaker. The double breaker protects the CC-battery circuit and also disconnect the PV side anytime d battery side trips while d low current breaker added for d PV side protects the PV-CC circuit...shikena bigrovar: Double pole breaker is also not a perfect solution ooo.. it comes with its own issues
1 Sizing: One of the most important consideration for your breaker system is getting the right size for the job. Too small and u get lots of false positives (if u are lucky) or it just don't work. Too large and you have a weak protective system.
Now note that on the PV output to cc voltage is usually higher than current.. your breaker should reflect that. On the cc to battery side amp is higher than voltage breaker should also reflect that.
If you use a double pole breaker as a one breaker rule them all situation then you have to still prioritise which device is worth saving the most. And 9 out of ten times u find out it is the battery cc side that's most important. The breaker in a double pole scenario should be sized with a bias towards protecting the battery from shorting (Which in a way defeats the purpose of having double pole system anyways NB: If your panel voltage and amp is close to that of your cc output then this won't be an issue.
2 second issue with a double pole system is the connection sequence. Recommended connection sequence for a PV battery CC situation is .. battery to PV first.. wait for CC to boot and load ( usually tiny few seconds) then connect PV to cc. Disconnect sequence is the reverse. Disconnect PV then disconnect battery. A double pole system makes nonsense of this arrangement as it turns on the PV into and the Batt input at exactly the same time. Your CC would be taking in close to 90v or more before it is even ready to handle them. Might be wise to have a separate switch in the PV side of things to act like some kind of delay on the PV side.
Just something to consider before adopting a one breaker to bind them together and rule them all scenario. |
