OK informative enuf but how many times do u open this breaker? Once a yr? Once in two years? We need to innovate.

The difference is majorly at the point of extinguishing the arc formed during closing and opening of the contact. With AC, the arc is of short duration since the current changes direction 50 times per second. In DC, current does not changes direction so the arc is longer. If you use AC in place of DC,as the components is not made to eextinguished long duration electric arc.

Arc in layman language is the fire or spark you see when you touch two wires together. It also happens inside the breaker but you won't notice it because it's immediately extinguished.

U can use clamp to link the two breaker lever or use solid glue and a bar to link them together. Sincerely, I don't see anything between AC n DC breaker unless someone educate me. For now I use AC breakers n no lele

The link posted is for ac breaker. I actually have 2 DC circuit breakers, each is double pole with one terminal marked +ve the other terminal -ve. One is 32A, the other 63A. Was wondering if there's a way of linking the two to trip at the same time.

I'm using the 32A between solar and CC, 63A between battery and CC. From previous warnings, it's possible for the 63A to trip and destroy the CC. So I'm wondering if the two breakers can be made to trip simultaneously if there's fault.

I understand but how does the breaker differs apart from name? What happens if you use AC breakers for DC applications?

DC circuit breaker, like their name suggests, is used for the protection of electrical devices that operate with direct current. The main difference between direct current and alternating current is that in DC the voltage output is constant, while in AC it cycles several times per second.

Would you be kind enuf to tell us the difference?

Majority of 2 pole breakers are AC ... You can actually improvise by using ² DC breakers of same amperages.. Thanks !!

I have seen up to 3 pole breaker. CC to battery on one breaker(one cable only preferable +ve) while PV to CC on the other breaker also one line only preferably the +ve. If one line in a two line circuit is disconnected, its enough to open d circuit

Double pole breakers can be bought as is off the shelf. Not a regular item on the corner shop but you should be able to get if you ask around, maybe they buy it specially from you.

So if PV and battery are connected to either side of the DP breaker, where does the CC fit in? Thanks.

Double pole breakers are basically 2 breakers mechanically connected so they trip same time. So if one line of the PV circuit and one line of the battery circuit is connected to each breaker, they trip same time.

Please upload picture of an example of double pole breaker? I've been looking for it since and I'm confused if a DC breaker with +ve and -ve pole can be used in place by making positive pole for battery to inverter connection, negative pole for cc to solar array.

Learnt something now...double pole breakers ensures the PV and battery are disconnected simultaneously thus avoiding d risk I mentioned earlier which is battery side tripping and PV side still energised. This makes more sense.

You can install a surge protector just after the breaker btw the PV and CC. Depending on the height of ur installation u might install a lightning arester

It could trip due to faulty breaker, someone can go there when you're not around. You urself can trip it mistakenly. The breaker btw CC and battery in reality offers no protection but risk!
The reason is that most of these CC are MOSFET powered and MOSFET have low tolerance of static charge. If the breaker for any reason trips and sunlight is present, there in no negative that would have acted as sink or path way for the voltage being generated. Same thing applies to some inverter, if a breaker must be installed it should have a pretty high amp rating so it doesn't trip when there is mains....your power MOSFET may fry

If your breaker is correctly sized at or above the rated capacity of your CC; why would you not want it to trip when it's seeing more current than its rated for?

That's its job! Again, if properly sized, the benefits to having a breaker there outweigh the possible risks to not having it there.

We sometimes may never be able to comprehend what damage those 6k items save us from!

N.B.: Note taken that if you have a breaker between your PV and combiner, it possibly should have tripped already based on your scenario above so CC should be all safe.

I still strongly recommend that the only breaker is btw the PV and the CC. Btw CC and battery should be straight connection. The risk is negligible but if you decide to introduce a breaker btw CC and battery thereby creating a new higher risk, don't blame anybody if for any reason it trios during sunny time cos ur CC will be damaged.

What does the manual says about resetting the CC? The CC has inbuilt protection and from the battery to CC what surge could possible spring up? If the CC short circuited that means its already bad n the internal fuse will break. Its not in every case circuit breaker protects

The benefits outweigh the risks/exposure in my opinion.

The inadvertent trip I meant is if someone or you mistakenly trip it during the day then its similar to installing ur solar panels first to ur CC before installing ur batteries n the CC will positively fail.

Apologies for the Hmmnning.

I have read a few manuals and I have never come across a manufacturer advice not to install any electrical protection between CC and battery. On the contrary, all of them recommended this.

Secondly, while electrical protection offers you the added protection for your equipment in case of faults, it primarily also should be to protect you against fires resulting from overheating of your cables.

I would think that whatever fault you have downstream of your CC (I.e. Between your CC and battery) which causes your breaker to trip, is such that if you did not have that breaker there, would have wrecked further damage upstream to your CC and above.

I would rather have a tripped breaker with possible minor damage to CC electronic circuitry, than to have significant upstream damage or fire.

I'm open to rebuttals on the above!

Here is something I also understood, please gurus in the house correct me if I am wrong, lets say I made a bid for 100,000 naira 13% 91 days tenor and it was successful, my interest will be 13,000 roughly, divide that my 3 months that gives me approximately #4,333.33 per month. compared this to fixed deposits, that gives you maximum of 10% per annum, I think T bills is far better. Am still learning sha, maybe am wrong. I just sent Stanbic a mail requesting the form and they just did, lemme fill and send back, I will keep us updated.

Super yes! its the surest way to damage ur CC. Infact never install a breaker between the CC and battery cos any inadvertent trip fries your CC . Happened to a friend recently.

A friend's morningstar ts-mppt-60 solar controller got damaged. He suppects that the damage might have been caused by accidental disconnection of battery power to the CC before the disconnection of the solar input.

His solar setup Voc is around 90V and his battery bank is 24V. Does a disconnect of battery before disconnecting solar damage morningstar mppt charge controller?

I think we must face the reality here,whether executive ,judiciary or legislature,everybody must be under the rule of law. . The security has write to search anywhere but they must go there with their search warrant . Imagine the huge sum collected from the rogues ! Where for Christ's sake did they get over 93m naira excluding other foreign currency in the house .
