Medicine has a long history of bogus doctors, crafty impostors who put on white coats and win the trust of patients and physicians alike, deploying a polished bedside manner that often masks their limited expertise.

It's not just a Nigerian problem. Despite an entirely computerised system and ease of verification The US still has a long list of quack medical practitioners some practising at the highest level with exploits that have gone unnoticed for years.

Recently a High School drop out successfully practiced for eighteen months before being apprehended. Others after being caught , jailed and released on probation still went back to don the white coat.

No one did it better than Ferdinand Waldo Demara. Successfully pulling through sixteen complex operations during the Korean War with no medical training. Quickly disappearing to his private room, he would read quickly on how to perform the next procedure. Then, with icy concentration, he would return to the operating table. Extraordinarily all his patients survived.

Infact it was when his outstanding performance in surgery at the war front was published in a Canadian Newspaper that it became obvious he had been impersonating Dr Joseph Cyr who was at home in Canada

Back to your exam. Blood was taken from your vein to run an Electrolyte Panel tests. Electrolytes are substances that have a natural positive or negative electrical charge when dissolved in water. They help your body regulate chemical reactions, maintain the balance between fluids inside and outside your cells, and more. They’re also a key way to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions and diseases.

A healthy body keeps a range of these electrolytes as too much of it or too little could cause diverse symptoms (Confusions, Behavioral changes, Irregular Heart beat, Chest Pains, Severe Headaches, Kidney Stones, Vomiting, Weakness, Inability to move muscled etc.) It could also diagnose a Kidney or Heart Problem etc.

Your blood was checked for Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Bicarbonate. Your body uses Bicarbonate to keep your blood PH normal. Chloride helps cells maintain their internal and external balance of fluids and general body PH. Potassium for Heart functioning and Sodium for cell fluid balance. Your parameters show you within the normal range and so nothing to worry about.

Your blood was also checked for Urea and Creatinine. Both Urea and Creatinine are waste products that tell how well your kidneys are filtering. Urea is a waste product formed as the liver breaks down protein. Creatinine is a waste product of Creatine as the muscles break down (simply put) ..These by products in blood get filtered by the kidneys. Too much of it in the blood could mean your kidneys aren't filtering well enough. From your numbers it shows your GFR which is the rate at which the kidneys filter is perfect.

Not directly if the kidneys aren't compromised but over time sustained high blood pressure can cause a strain on the filters of kidneys leading to foamy urine caused by Proteinuria. Also during a sustained hypertensive crisis (blood pressure equals to or higher than 180/110) some patients could experience foamy urine due to hyperactivity. In any case a urinalysis would often detect excretory albumin (protein)

For p24 , it can detect HIV DNA within 2weeks -4weeks of infection .but as the post exposure day increases, the reliability of the P24 decrease .
Usually in standard hospitals in Nigeria, most blood meant for transfusion are initially screen with Determine strip and those blood donor that pass the determine test as well as that of Hepatitis B and C will donate blood but such blood are further screen with the P24 machine so that those having the early phase of the disease can still be further screened out before transfusing such blood.

Every drug has side effects and the affect different people differently. The regular paracetamol that calms pains and headaches for most people without side effect could cause life threatening breathing problems for some. Truvada which consists of (emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) is often used as Prep. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, tiredness, insomnia. I'm sorry to hear of your health issue but I think you haven't given enough information to solicit for help. Make your situation appealing and credible enough for people to help if need be.

In simple term Gynecomastia is the development of breast tissues in men. It could be caused by a lot of things including over weight, prescription medications and drugs, hormonal imbalance due to several conditions that raise estrogen and decrease testosterone in men.

Whilst not a medical emergency for the most part, it could be embarrassing, painful and depressing for some people making necessary immediate treatment. The first line treatment are different line of drugs and supplements depending on the cause.

To solicit for help you should be able to demonstrate why you need an urgent surgery for your condition. Have you been placed on medications for your condition without improvement? Have you tried some natural supplements that bring down estrogen and raise testosterone.? Can you attach pictures of the severity of your condition without exposing your facial identity. Can you attach medical records. All these could show the severity of your situation to bring forth meaningful contributions.

I've been having foamy urine in the morning for 3 months now, especially my morning urine or when i finish gyming. I've done Urinalysis twice, no infection, no protein, no sugar. Don't know if anyone has experience this...

Since you have ran a urinalysis that explicitly shows there is no proteinuria, infections or other underlying conditions I would say you have nothing to worry especially in the absence of other symptoms.

Foamy urine can be caused by many different things some of them worrying enough and others just as normal as the process of urination. The protein albumin could leak into urine if the filters of the kidneys get compromised. As the protein reacts with air foams get produced during urination. When this happens other symptoms like shortness of breath, itchy skin, swollen limbs and eye lids, and feeling sick could accompany the buildup of toxins caused by the kidneys inability to properly function.

Since you mentioned when you most experienced foamy urine I will narrow the normal causes to a few things. The first could be down to dehydration. Since you mentioned the foams are in the morning it could boil down to urine concentration in the morning after a night's sleep. At this point all the waste are concentrated enough to have protein enough to produce foams but yet not enough to be a Protein problem. Your recent diet might play a role too. Have you met a new girl who has been feeding you with boiled eggs, meat and other foods rich in protein?Lol

The second reason could boil down to Pressure. As urine builds up over night in the bladder it could gush out in the morning with enough force capable of producing streams of bubbles that look like foam. These though dissapear faster than true foams. You mentioned foamy urine after exercise. Most people will experience foamy urine after a fever, stress or intensive physical activity. Without going into the mechanism it is possible to lost proteins during hectic physical exercise in what could be a transient proteinuria. Also physical activity could cause plenty of sweating and dehydration that increases urines concentration and ability to foam. Check too if your toilet pot is having a detergent that creates foam after you pee?

Since the hospital has ruled out any suspicion of Urinary Tract Infections, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Proteinuria etc you can keep enjoying life in the knowledge that I too just passed out foamy urine this evening yet in perfect health... Do well to increase your fluid intake to atleast two liters of water daily. All the best

Ph stands for Potential of hydrogen and not Prostrate. In simple term Ph is the measure of the level of acidity and alkalinity of a solution. Usually measured from 0 to 14, above 7 will be seen as alkaline and below 7 as acidic. At 7 it will be considered neutral. The normal Ph value of urine can vary from 4.5 to 8 made up of water, salts and other waste products. Abnormalities to urine Ph can be traced to urinary tract infections, Kidney Diseases, Kidney stones. Just to mention the OP didn't mention there were abnormalities with his Urine Ph

So I started my vitamin supplementation last week just as someone on this thread recommended.

Although I did a bit of research before commencing.

Full details:

I saw a video on YouTube where someone said they were bleeding for 4months non-stop and literally did all the test their gynae recommended - yet nothing was found to be the root cause and drugs weren't even working


Happened that someone else recommended they take iron pills considering that the heavy bleeding can make them anemic. Surprisingly, they started the iron pills and their bleeding stopped.

After seeing that YouTube video, I jumped into more research on the relationship between vitamins and female hormones

From my research, I gathered that vitamins like iron, magnesium, zinc, b-complexes, and vit c are very essential for balancing hormones

So I started taking a combination of these (excluding magnesium) on Thursday.

I took them in their right dosage and to my utmost surprise, the bleeding stopped. It didn't stop abruptly though but it drastically reduced and gradually faded away in 3days.

I'm fully okay and back to my normal life.

Additional details
- The chest pain and back pain I got as side effects from duphaston has disappeared

- Severe headache I got as side effect has also gone

- Aggression, mood swings, and anxiety signs I got during the hormonal crisis are also gone

I feel so brand new and happy.

HIV Exposure means one has been in contact with the virus but cannot ascertain whether they have been infected.

Case in point: HIV Exposed Infants. They are exposed because they are in contact with an HIV-infected mother.

Contact with body fluids of an infected person is the only way to get the virus, why should the definition of HIV exposure via sexual intercourse be different?

The Cambridge Dictionary defines exposure as the state of having no protection from something harmful. In the case of Covid people were required to wear masks and social distance irrespective of wether it was obvious the parties around were positive or not.

I don't know if you in the health field but there is a non Occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis treatment known as nPrEP recommended by the WHO in 2013 to be offered to victims of rape. In most cases the victims dont need to proof whoever raped them was HIV positive. So long as the degree of sexual assault is deemed risky based on the exchange of certain fluids, they get administered Post Exposure Treatment. So yes each time you have unprotected sex with someone whose HIV status you can't ascertain, you get exposed to their bodily fluids and Potentially Exposed to HIV and other STD's

I dated an Hiv positive lady we had unprotected sex for years before I found out she is positive surprise surprise its over 10 years now and am still negative.

If she was on antiretroviral medications as it should be the case her viral load would be non detectable, making it hard for her to pass on the virus

In the case of HIV, having unprotected sex with anyone whose HIV status you can't ascertain as of the time of the sexual encounter is an exposure to their bodily fluids which might contain HIV. Even more damning is the fact that once you sleep with someone whose status you can't ascertain it means in principle you have slept with everyone the have slept with

I suppose your fear stems from having unprotected sex with someone whose HIV status you can't ascertain. Since you guys are still in communication you can ask her to run an HIV test too. I'm certain you are negative based on your 10week results but it's safe to have a confirmatory at 12 weeks per regulatory. I suppose you learned your lesson this time and would be more careful next time..All the best

The window period for most HIV antibody tests is 3months (12weeks) after exposure. I don't know which test assay is popular in Nigeria, but in Cameroon the test kit DETERMINE is a first line cos of it's high sensitivity. That means it will for the most part pick up antibodies. Oral Quick is used for confirmation cos of it's high specificity. This means sometimes cos of DETERMINE's high sensitivity it could show a false positive that needs to be confirmed with a high specificity kit like Oral Quick that's good at detecting antibodies specific to HIV..

If you tested negative at the ten week mark it's very very likely you would be negative at the 12weeks mark. Most rapid tests in use in 2023 can accurately pick antibodies at the 6weeks mark. However in line with regulation do test again at the 12 weeks mark post exposure to have a confirmatory result
