FamilyRe: Suicide: NAPTAN Urges Parents To Be Alert, Monitor Their Children, Wards by Donchukz(m): 2:36pm On May 21, 2019
etcsines:
@titiloyeblog.com

National Parents, Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) on Monday decried the spate of suicide among adolescents, urging parents and guardians to be more vigilant and monitor activities of their children.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a student recently committed suicide for failing to score high grades in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Reacting to the spate of the suicide of adolescents, Chief Adeolu Ogunbanjo, 2nd Deputy President of NAPTAN, told the NAN in Lagos that parents must pay more attention to their children to avert suicide tendencies.

He said the suicidal act was condemnable but the cause should be addressed.

“Honestly, it is very sad, very disappointing and yes it is very condemnable. But condemning it alone will not bring the solution; we as parents must be alert to stop this menace.

“Parents must be alert always to identify changes or any suicidal tendencies in their children.

“Children, especially undergraduates, need constant monitoring in order to avert any danger.

“Nowadays, many of us parents do not have time for our children anymore, we only worry about their upkeep but neglect the social life.

“When we talk of time, it is divided into two; normal time and quality time — and what our children need is quality time,” he said.

Speaking on the case of the undergraduate who committed suicide, the NAPTAN Deputy President said the incident might not be unconnected with the economic situation in the country.

He said the economic situation may lead to suicide, adding that ‘’one cannot rule out depression’’.

“It is not right for anybody to commit suicide for whatsoever reason but for a depressed person, they will not think that it is not right.

“A depressed person only acts on impulse,’’ Ogunbanjo said.

Speaking on students committing suicide because they failed JAMB, Ogunbanjo said failure was part of life and there was no success without failure.

Parental care is also very important for our children and quality time with them to check their class work, homework, and assignment, particularly at the primary and secondary school level.

He urged parents to spend quality time with their children and wards to put their children in check.

“Failure is part of success, failure makes you learn, it makes you know what to do next to succeed.

“But it is unfortunate that our youths will commit suicide because they failed JAMB examination.

“Parents have a lot to do, they should stop harassing their children over their performance in examinations.

“Parents should spend 15 to 30 minutes every day with their children to put them in check,“ he said.

Commenting on the case of the undergraduate who drowned in a swimming pool in Abuja recently, he urged the parents of the victim to pursue the case to a logical conclusion in order to serve as a deterrent to other students who may be contemplating such evil act.

The NAPTAN official described the act as an evil which should be condemned by all.

Ogunbanjo urged the state and the federal government to ensure that Nigerian youths were viably engaged to discourage them from involvement in vices.

SPOILT9JAOLOSHO:
Good morning Nairalander's

Please I need the input of doctor's/nurses/anyone that knows or experienced this child ailment before to help save my niece cry.

Here is the details..

My elder sister who lives in the east gave birth to her 3rd child, a baby girl in 2015 but she was born with this unknown ailment. It usually starts from the hand, they took her to hospitals but doctor's seemed uncertain of what the ailment was, they also took her to some other places trying to find solution to it but to no avail. Within few days it spread to her nails and they subsequently fell off. One week later it spread all over her body that if you lie her on the bed she cries all time due to the pain and when u raise her up her skin glues to the wrapper used in lying her down. After days of trying to find solution with no success they were confused. Then one early morning around 4am the father carried her to ease the pain and make her to stop crying without knowing the baby was dead 10 minutes ago, it was when they discovered they wept and made arrangements and buried her in the morning.

After that, they had another baby and she was free from it.

Now on May 8, 2019 she gave birth to a baby girl (photo attached) but the baby was born with this same deadly ailment. They took her to FMC they said it is "epidermolysis bollusa". Please I need information from anyone who knows about this ailment and how to cure it, I don't want a repeat of what happened last time abeg.

PoliticsRe: Why Do Most Igbos Passionately Dislike Buhari? by Donchukz(m): 4:13pm On Apr 09, 2019
cyrilamx:
The reason most Igbo dislike the person of Buhari is an upshot of so many grounds. It is an open bias one we can only shy away from in the holy name of tolerance. As a Nigerian from the Western part of the country I have received insults hurled at my tribe because we supported the candidacy of a President that has one of our sons as the Vice-President.

Our case just like that of Buhari is an ancient "wrong". A prejudice and stereotyping that precedes recent events. The one sin we committed as a nation is fighting the civil war and the mistake we made either as a Nigerian or Biafran is not winning it. Because is it obvious the war wasn’t won, and it rages. How "no victor no vanquish" can delete memories of untold hardship and deaths is fragile.

The civil war was a leadership error, an ego contest by leaders, swift to war in the name of their people and their blood. I said once - whoever shot the first bullet killed the progress and unity of this nation. To most Igbo, Buhari personified the enemy - the one that killed their grandparents and parents. It insults their pride. The hatred is a civil revenge - the much accepted in a democracy. This is a man who served in the Civil war where millions of Igbo died - he was just a ready-made enemy. His history has condemned him. If Nigeria had “forgiven” the Igbos am sure most Igbos have not. It is hard to love when the elders that are supposed to forge the unity are the ones stoking the flames of violence. Writing legacy of discord. This generation of Igbo were unborn during the civil war or immediately after it - many of they don't even understand how ruinous. It is Aburi accord, with many not knowing what its content is.

The last election in Nigeria is one of the most schismatic ever and no matter the degree of "a hero" people try to foist on Goodluck Jonathan he will forever in history be a divisive leader. One who supervise a schismatic campaign for a selfish motive. The campaign rhetoric was intentionally divisive. It exploits the religion fault line of the country. Strategically positioning himself as a Christian president moving from church to church desecrating God’s acre with political statements while our bought pastors watch in connivance. A personal and non-religious obligatory visit to Jerusalem turned to a photo session indirectly passing a message to the Christian denominated Igbo of his faith. Bringing his faith into affairs of state, subtly dividing the country when Boko Haram, an "Islamist" terrorist group was killing Christians in the North - well done. He made his Platonic association with the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) public to the extent of using a plane linked to the "man of God" to ferry money to South Africa. That was him making the Igbo believe their man, a man of their faith is the president. Most fell for it and own him immediately. A became more than just Igbo, he became to some a hero.

The Igbos who are enraged with the way Boko Haram was killing Christians in the North saw Goodluck Jonathan as a man on their side - of shared faith in the "we versus them" that the Boko Haram issue later turned to.

Islamophobia is prevalent in the South-eastern part of Nigeria so when a Muslim came into power dislodging a Christian is seems like Christ was crucified again but this time by the Fulanis. It is not just a Muslim, a Muslim that the Jonathan camp has labeled a Boko Haram sponsor and sympathizer. No way! This sentiment resonant with some Igbos who believe that as a Muslim Buhari is evil. Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign tried effortlessly to stigmatized Buhari as an extremist but what they don’t know is that it worked even though they lost the election - most Igbos already accepted their campaign of calumny.

Another reason most Igbo dislike Buhari is because of ethnicity. Goodluck Jonathan created another "we versus them" using the ethnic fault. Apart from the geographical location that accommodates Otuoke in the 1967 map of Biafra - there is nothing that connects Goodluck Jonathan with Igbo except votes. But in the name of politics he transformed himself to an Igbo to garner the support of the mighty Igbo since his Ijaw tribe isn’t one of the three major tribes in Nigeria. The first was the name Azikwe. Then is the politically correct (and deserving) appointments of Igbos into his government. This appointment serves it purpose which is to be seen as Igbo, no more a friend of the Igbos. Does anyone still remember Yoruba leaders being called “Vagabonds” in Ibadan? Or the “born throway” of Patience Jonathan? The Awolowo party ( a reference to APC) campaign in the east. Or how the relocation of Igbos in Lagos was spun with ethnic coloration when same happened in Imo or Abia? Do you remember the “Lagoon” and Oba of Lagos? How a Yorubaman (Jimi Agbaje) was adopted by the Igbos in Lagos for Governor because it is believed to be in an Igbo party - PDP? Do you remember how PDP in Lagos presented Igbos for assembly seats? Positioning the party as an Igbo party. When It is part of a grand plan to make the election look like the Igbos against the Hausas and us the Yorubas - “the betrayer” all again. It was the civil war all again. A democratic one that leaves us with a divided country. The hatred and division didn't happen by chance it was planned to be so. Buhari is an APC member so when he won it was like the Igbo "lost" again - another January 1970. The outcome was planned smear the opponent and win the election.

Most Igbos don't like Buhari because Goodluck Jonathan’s message to them was well digested but wasn’t enough to re-elect him. If Jonathan is any hero it will be a BEER.

PoliticsRe: Sagay: Northerners Are Afraid Restructuring Will Reduce Their Shares From Oil by Donchukz(m): 2:44pm On Apr 08, 2019
nairavsdollars:
Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), in this interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, speaks on latest issues in the polity. Excerpts:

Given the kind of debate it generated before the just concluded elections, do you think President Muhammadu Buhari should pay attention to the issue of restructuring in his second term?

Yes, I think so. In his first term, restructuring was not something that was of priority to him. He was more focused on process, doing things in accordance to laid down procedures and doing it with honesty and integrity; in other words, to purge the country of corruption and establish a system of integrity and honesty. I think he has to move on to restructuring to a certain extent now because that is the wish of significant proportion of people in Nigeria. So, it cannot be ignored. The APC has a paper which strongly supports restructuring. I think this is the time for him to pay more attention to the issue and see what can be done to strengthen the federating units and make them less dependent on the centre; and also give them the capacity to be productive and self-sustaining. This will make us move closer to how we were in 1966 before the military came when the regions were the ones funding the federal government then. I don’t want us to go back to that but it will be enough if the states can be self-sustaining and be more productive so that this obsession of federal allocation should end. They should stop doing like babies who need federal feeding bottles in order to survive. It is humiliating for 36 state governments to send their commissioners of finance once a month to Abuja with what I will call ‘begging bowls’, looking for allocation. Civil servants collect salaries, states should not be collecting salaries every month. We need them to be self-sustaining and restructuring will greatly assist in making that possible.

There is this general belief that Northerners are opposed to restructuring. Why is that so?

Yes, it is true that Northerners are hostile to restructuring. The fact is that they are so dependent on oil revenues that they are afraid that if restructuring takes place, the proportion of oil proceeds they will get will be much smaller and therefore, their capacity to look after themselves will be much more reduced. That is a fallacy that they believe in because they are not looking inwards. Honestly, if I were from the Northern states; the states that produced cattle; that is a sustainable, renewable source which oil is not. Cattle should not be mainly for people to slaughter and take to the market to sell. No! I believe that we should have a system where cattle is used for milk, butter, cheese, milk and frozen beef that can be exported, because the world needs meat that can be exported in a clean environment. If they can do this and move away from the current way of rearing cattle for just slaughtering and eating, you will see that the North will have an advantage. My own calculation is that at least, $5b can come initially from the cattle industry by the time they maximise all the benefits from the cattle and export some. This is not like oil that can dry up or lose its value because the cattle will breed, new cattle will come and they can continue to expand. Oil right now is contracting, getting smaller and one day, it will go. I have pointed out all these in some papers I have written. If I were the Northerners, I will never be afraid of restructuring. I will rather concentrate on this natural resources that we have, which will be self-sustaining permanently and it is the Southern part of the country, particularly the South-South that should be worried about the future of oil. This is because once oil goes and there is no replacement economy, then there will be very dire consequences.

Were you surprised by the resignation of Justice Walter Onnoghen, the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria?

The resignation has come too late. It was a face-saving resignation because if he had not resigned, he would have been sacked. There is no question about that. At the very best, he would have been retired if not actually dismissed. There is no value in the resignation anymore. It lacks the honour and dignity that would have accompanied it if he had done it since January when the charges were made at the very beginning when he admitted in his writing that he forgot to declare his assets.

By that admission, he should have resigned on the spot. But instead, he went into a very dirty battle with the federal government and with the Tribunal, going to three different courts to get the same order which is a gross abuse of court process. He even went to Industrial Court which is a labour court and has nothing to do with the matter. It is when a worker is sacked without due procedure that is when you go there. So Onnoghen ridiculed the entire judicial system the way he went about it, whipping up sentiments in the South East and South South. Everybody was being threatened in spite of obvious guilt and then Senior Advocates capitalised on the issue to show how loyal and obedient they are to iniquity. So, to me, the resignation is too late and I am not impressed. He should have handled the matter with dignity and self-respect

As someone who lives in Lagos, there are fears that some projects which Akinwunmi Ambode, the outgoing governor of Lagos may not complete will suffer under the incoming government. What advice will you give to the governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu?

My advice is that he should complete all on-going projects in Lagos state, just like what the federal government is doing now by completing the projects that were not finished by the Goodluck Jonathan administration. You don’t leave uncompleted projects and go and start new ones. My advice to the governor-elect of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is that he should complete any project that Ambode, the outgoing governor has started because at the end of the day, government is a continuum. What Ambode did about the Lagos Homs project that he abandoned will not speak well for him when the history of Lagos is written because a lot of Lagosians need accommodation in the state now and you can see the buildings wasting away without being completed. To resuscitate them in future will cost a lot of money. You can even see that the Lagos Metroline has slowed down. Nobody is working there. Since Babatunde Fashola left, there is hardly any construction going on and this is something that will have a fantastic and positive impact on Lagos because people can now drop their cars from Badagry areas right to the centre of Lagos. When they are done with their businesses, they can take a ride back; pick up their cars at the rail station and go. This is how it operates in civilised countries. They can drop their cars at any of the stations and take a ride to Lagos. So, what he did by not completing the Lagos Homs project is wrong but nevertheless, I will not want Sanwo-Olu to do the same thing on projects that Ambode is unable to complete. I don’t believe in that kind of politics because your achievements will be undermined if you abandoned projects which your predecessors couldn’t complete. I will advise Sanwo- Olu to complete the ones that Ambode couldn’t complete. In fact, he shouldn’t start new ones until he completes the existing ones. Today, the federal government is basking under the glory of the Abuja rail line. The same with the rail line in Itakpe- Warri. We have forgotten that it was Jonathan who started these projects but they didn’t do much and so, all the credits are going to the Buhari administration which is completing these projects.

Am a big fan of Dino, but something like this project left me thinking, what's the economic importance of this project, how will it contribute to the growth of the community, will this project inspire the populace of the community.

What happened,if Dino should build a hospital, with hospital in place; it will keep the people healthy,in the process job will be created,in the process, the young chaps will be inspired to become a medical doctor, nurses, pharmacist, etc.

But instead, the pp person of Dino and his likes, kept living a typical bourgeoisical lifestyles,no wonder Karl Marx was busy preaching to the talakawas(the common man)to rise up ,and take over from them(the upper classes),why couldn't he build schools, and other purposeful ventures. Is not that Dino doesn't have the money, the money dey,but instead,he is using his constituency budgets to buy super cars and live a luxurious lifestyle that will not benefit anybody, but himself and his families. Nigerian billionaire politician, Ned Nwoko, has finally spoken on his reported secret marriage to Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels.

The Capital reported that couple had an introduction ceremony last weekend in Asaba, the Delta State capital where Regina Daniels family home is.

Hon. Ned Nwoko, a former member of the House of Representatives, is 59 while Regina Daniels is reportedly 18 years old, and is said to be his 6th wife.

When contacted by Kemiashefonlovehaven on why he decided marrying Regina after four marriages, the billionaire politician, who spoke through his media handlers refused any comment but said he is first, a Moslem, who can marry as many wives as he wills.

The aide reportedly said;

“Allamdulilai, Hon. Ned Nwoko is of royal blood and he is entitled to as many wives as he desires. He is no kid and knows what is best for him. Don’t forget that he is a devout Moslem and he is entitled to more than a wife. He would not want to comment on Regina Daniels currently.”

He's a devoted muslim, and he can marry as many wives as he want. If it's so,that means ,he has gone against the sharia law,Muslims are not suppose to Mary more than 3 or 4 wives. Please,I stand to be corrected
