Plans to allow the United Kingdom an exemption from EU rules on freedom of movement for up to seven years while retaining access to the single market are being considered in European capitals as part of a potential deal on Brexit. Senior British and EU sources have confirmed that despite strong initial resistance from French president François Hollande in talks with prime minister Theresa May last week, the idea of an emergency brake on the free movement of people that would go far further than the one David Cameron negotiated before the Brexit referendum is being examined. If such an agreement were struck, and a strict time limit imposed, diplomats believe it could go a long way towards addressing concerns of the British people over immigration from EU states, while allowing the UK full trade access to the European market. While the plan will prove highly controversial in many member states, including France, Poland and other central and eastern European nations, the attraction is that it would limit the economic shock to the EU economy from Brexit by keeping the UK in the single market, and lessen the political damage to the European project that would result from complete divorce. High-ranking UK officials said that while it was “very early days”, some form of extended emergency brake was “certainly one of the ideas now on the table”. Any such agreement would, however, mean the UK would still have to pay a substantial contribution into the EU budget, although probably at a lower rate, and would lose its seat at the negotiating table when rules on the single market were determined, because it would not be a full member of the union. During the referendum campaign, the leave camp, led by Boris Johnson, now the foreign secretary, and Michael Gove, suggested that the UK would save £350m a week in EU contributions as a result of leaving both the EU and the single market. They said the money could be spent on the National Health Service. But on a visit to the United Nations in New York this weekend, Johnson appeared to change his tune, suggesting he now believed a deal could be struck that would allow the UK access to the single market with new limits on free movement rules for European workers. “I’ve absolutely no doubt that that balance can be struck, and over the next few weeks we’ll be discussing that in the government and with our European friends and partners,” Johnson said. “Everybody wishes to make fast progress in the economic interests both of Britain and of the European Union . I think there is very much a deal there to be done, and the faster we can get it done the better.” If the rights of EU citizens now in the UK can be guaranteed, then I think we can look at some form of emergency brake Dutch MEP Hans van Baalen EU diplomats and advisers believe the EU should try to keep the UK in the single market if possible, while not giving it such a good deal that other member states would be tempted to follow it out of the club. Speaking in her capacity as deputy director of the Rome-based Institute for International Affairs, Nathalie Tocci, who is a special adviser to Federica Mogherini, the EU high representative for foreign and security policy, said she believed that the Italian government would back an emergency brake as a way to keep the UK in the single market. She added that it would have to be time limited, in order not to violate EU treaties. “But I see no reason why it could not last, say, between seven and 10 years. This was how long temporary derogations lasted after the 2004 enlargement, which the UK chose not to benefit from,” she said. The Dutch MEP Hans van Baalen, who is president of the Liberal group in the European parliament and a member of the same party as Dutch prime minster Mark Rutte, said the plan should be taken forward, but would require the UK to give firm assurances about the right of EU citizens currently living and working in Britain to remain in the country. “If the rights of EU citizens now living the UK can be guaranteed permanently by the UK government, then I think we can look at some form of emergency brake on free movement of labour,” he said. “This could be invoked when the British labour market is under particular pressure. I would try to limit it to the UK at this stage. Popular student exchange could face post-Brexit axe “It is difficult to talk in too much detail as this will take a long time to negotiate. But given the difficulties we face, we must try to be flexible. It is vital that we have the UK in the single market as much as possible for the UK economy and for the economies of all EU member states.” In his attempt to renegotiate the terms of the UK’s EU membership before the referendum, Cameron secured a limited emergency brake that would have enabled Britain to restrict and phase in EU migrants’ access to in-work benefits for the four years after they first arrived in this country. The UK would be able to apply the “brake” for an initial seven years. But after the Brexit vote the EU declared the deal null and void. Under current European Economic Area rules (which cover EU member states as well as non- EU members like Norway, which has full access to the single market) there is already an option to apply “safeguard measures” in the event of “serious economic, societal or environmental difficulties of a sectorial or regional nature liable to persist”. This would allow Norway to impose restrictions on free movement but it has never invoked the clause, because, diplomats say, it is wary of reprisals from EU member states. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jul/24/brexit-deal-free-movement-exemption-seven-years

halfricanadian:Are you talking from personal experience? |
Even if you're in a solid relationship, you've got to admit: At one point or another, even if it was just for a moment, you've wondered if your partner was cheating on you. Luckily, for most of us, the thought is just a thought and our significant others stay loyal. But there are some ways to tell if that special someone might be cheating on you -- and the answers lie in the statistics. These are, according to research, the people and instances that might lead to cheating. They're not foolproof, but they're definitely something to think about. 1, Teachers. Infidelity-based dating site Ashley Madison did a study that showed that teachers -- particularly female teachers -- are more likely to cheat. 2, Former Cheaters. Research from the University of Alabama shows that people who have a history of cheating are more likely to do it again. 3, Kinky Partners. One intimacy expert says one way to tell if a man is cheating on you is if he suddenly wants to do more in the bedroom -- perhaps because his mistress taught him. 4, Money Matters. Wealthier men have power and riches at their fingertips, so they often feel more entitled to cheat. 5, Poorer Women. Studies show that poorer women are more likely to cheat on their spouses. Some evolutionary biologists suggest that it's connected to climbing the genetic—and financial—ladder. 6, The French. It's not surprising that intimacy gadget brand LELO's global study showed that 75 percent of the French admitted to cheating. 7, Social Media Addicts. A Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking study showed that people who use more social media platforms cheat more often than those who don't. 8, Tall Men. One study showed that men over 5'10" cheated more frequently on their partners. http://www.lifebuzz.com/likely-cheaters/10/?p=1&fp=AW&utm_source=AW&utm_medium=fb&utm_campaign=PR&ref=www.gotolfbz.com |

President Muhammadu Buhari has shrugged off suggestions that his public rating and acceptance among majority of Nigerians has nosedived over a year after he was overwhelmingly voted into office. He insists that the generality of Nigerians still believe in him as they did pre-2015 presidential elections. The president also faulted the assumption that his government focused all its attention on the anti-corruption war to the detriment of governance. Buhari, who spoke in an extensive interview with the magazine, African Leadership, pointed out that there is nowhere in the world where transition from an old order to a new one has ever been easy. It would be recalled that a national survey by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), entitled The Buharimeter Report, had indicated that there were gaps between campaign promises, public expectations, government policies and actions. “These need to be aligned properly going forward”, the report said, adding “Attempts sometimes by the president’s party to disown certain promises made during the elections will not serve the government well”. “What is required is to focus on achieving the promises by prioritizing them and carrying Nigerians along if there are challenges along the way”, it added. But President Buhari debunked these findings by the CDD in the African Leadership interview, insisting that he has neither lost the goodwill nor alienated the masses. “Yes, I was elected by an overwhelming majority of Nigerians, and I am ever grateful for the opportunity I have been given to serve. “However, I don’t consider the result of the so-called survey a slip in my public rating and acceptance. I appreciate the high expectations of Nigerians and as an administration we are working assiduously to deliver. “We came in with a mantra of Change and the zeal to give a new lease of life to governance. Our zeal has remained the same and we are always prepared to make the difference. “You will recall that when I was being sworn in, I emphasized that as a government, three key areas will be the priorities. The first is the need to rebuild the economy. I also pledged to fight insecurity while the third and equally important area is the fight against corruption”, he said. The president also pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with his administration, saying: “Nigeria will soon be back on track”. According to him, “Before now, we have been having sleepless nights in Nigeria with Boko Haram having field days in tormenting people, most especially in the North-Eastern part of the country. So far, we have shown resilience in stopping these people and yet many criticize the approach we are using. “What I think our people should know is that a process of change is difficult as it requires endurance and patience. China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and other great Asian countries had at different times passed through processes of change. They are far better off today. “And some of these countries were at par with Nigeria in terms of development some five decades ago. We are attempting to do the same here to say let us stop building individuals, let us stop making those who serve in government get stupendously wealthy at the expense of ordinary Nigerians they had sworn to serve. “Rather, we should concentrate on building strong institutions. Let us introduce economic prosperity by bringing in more investors to catalyze a sense of competition to grow our economy. Let there be law and order in our ways”. President Buhari also asked Nigerians to continue to exercise patience, assuring that his government will not rest on its oars until it brings succour back to them and to the country. On the worsening state of power supply in the country since he took over, the president said the nation will overcome the problem under his administration He said: “Let me assure you that we will surmount the challenge of power supply. We have mapped out a mix of electric power generation sources inclusive of thermal, solar, hydro, nuclear, coal and windmill. “The idea is to adapt and embed these sources to areas that they are easily adaptable to. But more than that, we will reinvigorate and conclude the power sector privatization process and thereby ensure the whole value chain in the sector is populated by the private sector”. On speculation that he has abandoned governance for only anti-corruption war, Buhari said: “it is not true that the fight against corruption is distracting my attention from the task of governance. You can sit back and review what we have done in the past one year and come up with your judgment. That will certainly assist you and other concerned Nigerians to reach the right conclusions”. http://www.informationng.com/?p=385261

Chiefs and residents of Fumesua, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region are in shock over the discovery of a casket in front of the Fumesua palace. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the casket. Joynews’ Erastus Asare Donkor reports that the chief of Fumesua, Nana Esua Amoako has travelled, but one of the sub-chiefs poured libation before opening the casket in the presence of the police. The casket, which was then slightly opened upon discovery by some residents of the town contains two bottles of schnapp, black and red calico and a letter allegely from a group by name, Concerned Citizens. The letter appeals to the town chief, Nana Esua Amoako to consider returning a plot of land used as a cemetery he is alleged to have sold to a private developer without conducting due diligence. It also said what the private contractor did by assembling heavy machines to “clear the whole site/land and deposited all the sand/mud/and the DEAD BODIES previously buried, and deposited them at an unknown place, is against custom.” The letter also berates the chief for failing to “perform any RITUALS on the land, which developments are on going.” This action of the chief and the developer, the group whose leaders are not known, believes is responsible for the death of “children, youth and middle aged citizens of Fumesua.” An invitation has been thrown to Nana Esua Amoako to attend a meeting of the group which will be taking place on Sunday, July 24, to “support morally and spiritually” discussions. The sub-chiefs are treating this as a spiritual issue and have called for a meeting to look into the matter. http://www.myjoyonline.com/news/2016/July-17th/mystery-coffin-visits-fumesua-palace-in-kumasi.php

Turkey prime minister says coup attempt foiled Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan lands at Istanbul's Ataturk airport after coup attempt by army faction put down. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said early on Saturday that the situation in Turkey was "largely under control" after an attempt by an army faction to bring down the government, in comments to Turkish media. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's plane landed in Istanbul after the announcement was made, officials said, after thousands of people heeded a call from the president to take to the streets and protest against the attempted coup. Late on Friday, sections of the army had officially declared a coup and martial law, saying they had "taken control of the country" as Istanbul's main airport was closed and fighter jets were seen in the skies. Turkey's intelligence agency MIT was targeted by hijacked helicopters but the coup attempt was "foiled", its spokesman told NTV television. Yildirim also told NTV that a no-fly zone had been declared over the capital, Ankara. The broadcaster also reported that nearly 50 soldiers had been arrested. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/07/turkey-prime-minister-coup-attempt-foiled-160716001125028.html |

Yusuf to be named Chief Coach The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has secured a $1.5 million bond from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to take care of the salary and other emoluments of Super Eagles’ foreign coach, reports AfricanFootball.com. The Federal Government has made it clear it will not pay for any foreign coach hired by the NFF for the Super Eagles ahead of the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup, but could approve such appointment if the federation guaranteed the payment of such a coach. “The NFF now has a bond of $1.5 million from NNPC and so they can employ a foreign coach,” a top official said. “The era of the federation owing coaches their salaries will now be history.” Frenchman Paul le Guen, Belgian coach, Tom Saintfiet and the country’s caretaker coach, Salisu Yusuf, have been shortlisted for the Super Eagles top post. The NFF said the successful coach will now be announced on July 18. Nigeria is drawn in a tough World Cup qualifying group that has Africa’s number one team Algeria, nine-time World Cup finalists, Cameroun and 2012 African champions, Zambia. The Eagles begin their qualifying campaign for Russia 2018 on October 3 in Zambia. Meanwhile, the NFF have expressed confidence they will convince the caretaker coach, Salisu Yusuf, to work with a foreign coach even after he insisted he wishes to head the Super Eagles on a permanent basis. The 54-year-old Yusuf has been assistant coach to Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh and Samson Siasia, and he has made it very clear he now wishes to lead the Super Eagles beginning with the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign. However, the NFF will on today consider either Paul Le Guen or Tom Saintfiet for the top Eagles post, while also getting Yusuf on board but as chief coach with a renegotiated contract and more responsibilities. And already a number of top personalities have reached out to the former Enyimba and Kano Pillars coach to accept this role. http://m.guardian.ng/sport/nff-to-pay-foreign-coach-from-nnpcs-1-5-million-bond/

A Chilean supporter in possession of the ball skied by Lionel Messi in this year’s Copa America Centenario final penalty shootout is prepared to sell the prized possession for in excess of €27,000, because of safety concerns. With the deciding match of the United States-hosted tournament locked at 0-0 after 120 minutes of action, the 29-year-old icon proceeded to send his spot-kick high over the bar to hand Chile an advantage, which they duly took to secure their second successive Copa America title. One lucky fan behind the goal was able to get his hands on the little piece of history, but despite feeling privileged to have the ball used by the Barcelona star, Pedro Vazquez admitted that he is set to auction off the cherished item before it becomes a target for burglars. “The truth is that if the ball becomes any more valuable, it would be a risk to have it in my house,” he told reporters. “I could sell it, but it would depend on the circumstances. “It is nice to have the ball, but if it keeps rising in price, I’ll sell.” It is believed that Vazquez could rake in a substantial amount of money from the sale of the ball if it were to go to auction in the coming months. Following the 4-2 shootout defeat at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Argentina hold the unwanted record of having lost four major tournament finals in just five years. In the immediate aftermath of the game, Messi promptly announced his retirement from international football as a result of the latest Albiceleste disappointment. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/fan-auction-ball-skied-messi-134444162.html |

Ayanda, who has been married to the gospel star for nine years, is quoted in Drum magazine as saying: “You pray, you cook and you twerk for your husband. He needs to find twerking at home. As much as I’m a wife, I can’t afford to stop being a girlfriend. When we close the bedroom door, it’s not time to pray. Intimacy is very important. Nobel laureate John Steinbeck (1902-1968) might be best-known as the author of East of Eden, The Grapes of Wrath, and Of Mice and Men, but he was also a prolific letter-writer. Steinbeck: A Life in Letters constructs an alternative biography of the iconic author through some 850 of his most thoughtful, witty, honest, opinionated, vulnerable, and revealing letters to family, friends, his editor, and a circle of equally well-known and influential public figures. Among his correspondence is this beautiful response to his eldest son Thom’s 1958 letter, in which the teenage boy confesses to have fallen desperately in love with a girl named Susan while at boarding school. Steinbeck’s words of wisdom—tender, optimistic, timeless, infinitely sagacious—should be etched onto the heart and mind of every living, breathing human being. New York November 10, 1958 Dear Thom: We had your letter this morning. I will answer it from my point of view and of course Elaine will from hers. First — if you are in love — that’s a good thing — that’s about the best thing that can happen to anyone. Don’t let anyone make it small or light to you. Second — There are several kinds of love. One is a selfish, mean, grasping, egotistical thing which uses love for self-importance. This is the ugly and crippling kind. The other is an outpouring of everything good in you — of kindness and consideration and respect — not only the social respect of manners but the greater respect which is recognition of another person as unique and valuable. The first kind can make you sick and small and weak but the second can release in you strength, and courage and goodness and even wisdom you didn’t know you had. You say this is not puppy love. If you feel so deeply — of course it isn’t puppy love. But I don’t think you were asking me what you feel. You know better than anyone. What you wanted me to help you with is what to do about it — and that I can tell you. Glory in it for one thing and be very glad and grateful for it. The object of love is the best and most beautiful. Try to live up to it. If you love someone — there is no possible harm in saying so — only you must remember that some people are very shy and sometimes the saying must take that shyness into consideration. Girls have a way of knowing or feeling what you feel, but they usually like to hear it also. It sometimes happens that what you feel is not returned for one reason or another — but that does not make your feeling less valuable and good. Lastly, I know your feeling because I have it and I’m glad you have it. We will be glad to meet Susan. She will be very welcome. But Elaine will make all such arrangements because that is her province and she will be very glad to. She knows about love too and maybe she can give you more help than I can. And don’t worry about losing. If it is right, it happens — The main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away. Love, Fa http://themindsjournal.com/john-steinbeck-falling-love-1958-letter/

Really need to step up my game.... Lol.

I am from a country where 95% of the population is either angry or scared. The times have passed when, if you successfully get a B.Sc degree, you are considered “made”. Gone are the days when our parents would tell us stuff like, “if you want to succeed, you have to read your books”. That worked during the time of our fathers. At least, I know my father got a job and a car after He completed his first degree from University of Ibadan in 1974. And there are a million other examples of such cases back then in Nigeria. Those were the days when the educational system paid off and people could fulfil their dreams just by being educated. But when exactly did things change I feel so lost. Compare the 70s/80s to this current Nigeria. Its like a different country. The youth are idle and angry. People graduate from the University and it is like a new level of suffering and frustration has begun except for a select few. Employers make recruitment processes so tedious and long as if one is looking to be employed as the president of a Country. Then you see groups like Niger-Delta Avengers coming up and then you still wonder why some people could be so callous. Let us face the battle from the right angle here because things don’t just suddenly happen. It is a build up of the deception that the past generation and we as individuals have gotten ourselves into. We would all agree that about 95% of the people that were so studious in school did that in order to finish and get jobs with the likes of Shell and Chevron. Creation of job opportunities or addressing the issues in the country were not the goal. From all indications, we were taught to be dependent on other people’s success for a means of livelihood rather than what they are lacking. What they did not know was that every other child will go to school just like their children and just as educated as their children; looking to depend on someone else’s success for a means of livelihood as well. So if we all have that mind set, where exactly would the jobs come from?“Start doing! Start creating! Start seeing the opportunity to better lives around you! You cannot place your life and Generations to come in the hands of some Government filled with old people that do not remember what it feels like to be young and handicapped by decision-makers.” Our educational system has failed to address the issues with the country. We are taught our courses so abstractly, that they seem like spiritual subjects (I am talking as a science student). We realize that we go out and cannot even relate the courses with the real world. We see machines and technological systems around us and do not know how they work or even have a flare for building them – that for someone who has spent half a decade in Uni. It is mostly the fault of the educational system because it focuses on every other thing except what really matters. Can a science student not finish from the University and gain expertise in web development? And this, not through personal learning but through what the school has imparted. We have so stuck to the same educational routine that the world has changed and we still refuse to change with it. Nobody cares about dy/dx if I dont even know how it relates with anything in the real world. Don’t get me wrong, these things are used one way or the other, but they never teach us how it is used or where or how to make them useful in the world and particularly in Nigeria. Can we not finish from the University with an urge to create something we have gained expertisein and make this available to Nigerians? One thing that is seriously crippling Nigeria’s economy is high rate of importation. We almost never create anything ourselves. Look around you if you are in an office or even at home, or on the road- anywhere, and see if 90% of what is around you is not a product made in China or Japan or USA or some other country. It is so bad that it has even become a thing of pride for a lot of us that if we use imported wears and appliances, we are on top of the world. We see the Aba made wears and gadgets and refuse them and infact castigate them for making such gadgets. Where exactly are we headed with this kind of mentality? How can there ever be jobs if all we do is rely on outsiders to create them and so we work for them. Of which working for them means we can just do what we can and live comfortably. My major concern here is that if this mentality continues, what will the future be for the coming Generations. The rate of unemployment is increasing and the number job opportunities meagre compared to number of job seekers. We have to break lose from the thinking of I have to get a job when im done schooling and start thinking “how will I create job opportunities when I am done schooling”. If it happened that the whole logistics chain of most products was within Nigeria, just imagine the number of job opportunities we would create. Imagine that we had phone manufacturing, coupling and distribution companies all in one within the same country, the future would be secure for our children. But as it is, with a mentality of just living to make money and settling down, that cannot happen. So, first off, the youth should cancel the notion of gathering many certificates in order to improve their profile and rather focus on acquiring a skill that can create job opportunities or better still that can make you sought after and a consultant in a particular field. I believe with a shift of focus, the Ministry of Education can make a great impact in the change that Nigeria needs. The entire science educational curriculum should be changed. Maybe only Primary school should retain their curriculum and teach general science. But starting from JSS1, students can start taking courses like: Phone fabrication, refrigerator making, Power generation and so on. Enough of taking irrelevant topics and deceiving people only for them to finish and realize that nobody in the real world cares where the thorax and abdomen of a housefly is! We cannot just be a people that carry out installations, coupling and consumption and expect that there will be jobs. I have even seen people that are working and all they do is create jobs for themselves in order to remain within the company and keep making some money. That cannot be your calling in life. That cannot be fulfilment of purpose. If you are not yet doing what you wish you could be doing to impart lives or on the path to doing that thing, then you have not yet started! This is a call to the youth to take over. I for one believe that I am more than this. I cannot keep on feeling like trash because I was rejected an employment when I am very creative. We are the light of the world, a city that is set upon a hill that cannot be hid. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father who is in heaven. I am creative and believe that with enough investment in personal development and acquiring a useful skill, I can contribute greatly to the lives of Nigerians. I believe that every single one of us can achieve the same by looking inwards and looking beyond just making money at the great possibilities and opportunities around us. I know very well that I cannot do it alone. I see people around me suffering and what I think of is that, “this person has a potential for greatness and if given the right opportunity, would use his/her God-given creativity to invent things that would better other people’s lives”. I want to create something that Nigeria has been importing and by so doing, create job opportunities for Nigerians. We all have to want this and not just want, but start doing this! If having Generators is what it takes to have Electricity in each house, can we not manufacture this within Nigeria? We have a large population with creative minds. So is this not possible? A cry to the youth: stop being angry at the Government and still not doing anything about it. It’s a big waste of energy. Looking in retrospect, anger has only made the situation worse. Anger has only made people more selfish and corrupt. We were never like this as kids. We believed we could do anything and whatever we wanted to do as kids that required our creativity, we just did. So why stop now ![]() Start doing! Start creating! Start seeing the opportunity to better lives around you! You cannot place your life and Generations to come in the hands of some Government filled with old people that do not remember what it feels like to be young and handicapped by decision-makers. I have noticed that they do not care. So be your own decision maker! Decide to live and love. Use everything you got within you to better the lives of those around you. Don’t let money be your driving force because when you are on the right path, money will be the one chasing after you. After all, our God has said “seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you”. Seeking how to better the lives of Nigerians is part of seeking first the Kingdom of God because He also said that if we reject help to those around us, then we reject Him. Just look around you and see what people are lacking or what is making them suffer. As for me, I want to make people realize that they can do and be anything they want to. What is that thing you have been wishing and hoping you could be? I call you to start being! https://oseghr./

The order also affects Ibe’s Continental Aviation Services Limited. AMCON has since appointed Prof. Gbolahan Elias, SAN as Receiver/Manager. At about 11:00am Friday, the Receiver/Manager took possession of the assets of Chief Ibe including Afrijet Plaza, the corporate head office of the airlines located on Sheraton-Opebi Link Road Ikeja, Opebi, Lagos; his asset at Plot 22, JimohOdutola Street, off Eric Moore Road, Surulere, Lagos as well as his office at the Airport. The Court order mandated the Receiver/Manager to also take over on behalf of AMCON and any other offices, branches, stores, warehouses, factories of Chief Ibe and his companies located and/or traced for the purpose of satisfying the indebtedness. Justice Obiozor, the presiding judge while granting the order on the application of Prof. Gbolahan Elias, SAN counsel to AMCON, restrained Ibe and his companies, directors, agents, servants and/or privies from operating, withdrawing from or otherwise tampering with the funds belonging to and/or deposited in any of his bank accounts under whatever name or guise in any bank or financial institution in Nigeria. Chief Ibe who would not repay the huge debt owed the Corporation has been in protracted negotiations with AMCON. The Court therefore ordered the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspectors General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police in charge of Lagos State, its Deputy and all other Police Officers under them to assist Prof. Gbolahan Elias, SAN, the Receiver/Manager and the Bailiffs of the Federal High Court in the enforcement of the orders of the Court. No incident was recorded during the enforcement exercise. Afrijet Airlines formally operated from the NAHCO Building on the grounds of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos. At some point in the history of the airline, it also operated regional cargo operations high profile security flight operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The airline later moved to its corporate headquarters in Opebi, Lagos, which was one of the assets AMCON took over yesterday. Afrijet Airlines still maintains an aviation maintenance shop with its sister company Elite Aviation. AMCON under Ahmed Kuru, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, had continually maintained that it would not be business as usual for all top debtors of the Corporation because some 400 obligors of the Corporation account for more than N4.5 trillion, which is approximately 80 per cent of the total outstanding loan balance of the Corporation’s over 12,000 accounts. To deal with the situation however, the Kuru-led AMCON recently increased the tempo of its recovery activities using firmer negotiation strategies as well as utilizing the special enforcement powers vested by the AMCON Act to compel some of its recalcitrant debtors especially those that are politically exposed and business heavyweights to repay their debts. http://thenationonlineng.net/amcon-takes-afrijet-airlines-assets-n10b-debt/ |

5 Facts About AMCON’s Takeover Of Sen. Ben Murray Bruce’s Companies. Social media is abuzz following a disclosure on Thursday morning that AMCON had been granted a court order to take possession of Silverbird Galleria as well as other businesses belonging to Senator Ben Bruce. Reactions have trailed the news, with some going as far as to call it a witchhunt while others say the Senator should pay his debts. Before you weigh in, here are some simple things you should know. The Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) was set up by Nigeria’s Central Bank in 2010 to forestall an impending financial crisis primarily driven by banks having huge portfolios of bad and non performing loans. If that is too complex, the simple explanation is that Nigerian banks had lent money to businessmen who didn’t pay back and some of these loans were huge! To save the financial sector from collapse, AMCON would buy these loans from the Banks at a discount. For example, if Ibrahim was owing N55 billion to First Bank, AMCON might buy that loan from the bank at N30 billion (providing badly needed cash for the bank) and then re-negotiate with Ibrahim on how the loan would be paid. Senator Ben Murray Bruce is said to have obtained a loan facility from Union Bank a little more than ten years ago and the loan was supposed to have a tenure of two years. Somehow, the common sense Senator was unable to pay back within the period and now AMCON has bought that no performing loan from the bank. AMCON secured an order from a Federal High Court in Abuja to take over Ben Murray Bruce’s possessions. Will AMCON close Silverbird Galleria? No! AMCON will simply appoint a caretaker manager to run Silverbird Galleria in the hopes of making back the amount owed (11 billion), the shops at the Galleria will not be sold if rents are still valid. Despite all of these, the most likely outcome is that Silverbird Galleria and all Murray Bruce’s other businesses will likely be sold because, truth be told, N11 billion is a lot of money! http://www.informationng.com/2016/06/5-facts-about-amcons-takeover-of-sen-ben-murray-bruces-companies.html |

I feel so lost. So if we all have that mind set, where exactly would the jobs come from?
