The Ekiti State governor has been seen riding on a commercial motorcycle in the state as he went about inspecting several taps in a community. Governor Ayo Fayose who is known for his ‘stomach infrastructure’ manner of governance, was pictured riding on a motorcycle (Okada) around Aramoko Ekiti in Ekiti West LGA of Ekiti State today. The Governor was on a mission to inspect some of the water fetching points in the community. His government had just installed portable water to the locality after 8 years without any source of portable drinking water. On Wednesday, Nigeria’s parliament discussed a motion on the “Unwholesome Practices by Multichoice Nigeria (DSTV) – a subsidiary of South African-based Multichoice Africa”. On the same day, the pay TV service hit the streets of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial nerve, informing subscribers of better value on their subscriptions. Earlier in the week, the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) had ordered MultiChoice Nigeria to compensate its subscribers and henceforth provide them toll-free lines for their complaints. This is the latest of consumer- related issues to have faced the cable TV company in recent times, exerting more pressure at a time it risks losing a huge portion of its market to online TV subscription services like Netflix. Blame Monopoly DSTV has for decades been the sole provider of premium entertainment on TV and this has made it easy for it to increase prices with little or no objection from consumers, most of who believe cable TV is luxury and only for those who can afford it. Truly, it was too expensive for an average Nigerian in the 80’s and even 90’s but as the middle class grows and DSTV expands its target market, it signed on subscribers whose use of Cable TV had nothing to do with class but was more about having access to much needed entertainment; they want value for every kobo (100 kobo = 1 naira) they spend on subscription. Hence, there have been issues between DSTV and its subscribers in recent years but the pay TV service has had it easy due to the inefficiency of the CPC. Now alive to its duty, the CPC is handing out penalties and making bold statements that would ensure other smaller players see the consumer as king. While DSTV’s monopoly in Nigeria has allowed it increase prices at will for years, cable costs in other parts of the world have also grown astronomically as a result of monopoly. According to Andrew Dodson of Cut Cable Today , average cable bill in the United States would only be $35 per month, as opposed to $99.10 per month, had pay TV prices tracked with inflation during the past two decades. The website claims that cable prices have risen at four times the inflation rate during the past five years. Huge price increases have thus made customers to flee. In the third quarter of 2015, pay TV lost 300,000 subscribers . Most of these subscribers move to more affordable streaming services like Netflix and the live streaming service Sling TV . As internet access and quality improve in Nigeria, a similar switch will be witnessed. Now we know our job Nigeria’s Consumer Protection Council (CPC) might not have done enough in the past to protect cable TV subscribers in the country against DSTV’s excesses, but it has now come out in full force. After an extensive investigation over alleged violation of consumers’ rights by the company, the CPC noted that DSTV’s billing system is “not contemporaneous with the provision of service” and is therefore not in the best interest of consumers. The consumer protection council has ordered MultiChoice to suspend its service when consumers are away, release free-to-air channels even when subscription had expired and compensate consumers for lost viewing time. It also ordered the cable television company to introduce local toll-free lines and equitable spread of popular sports channels. Apparently in compliance with the CPC’s orders, MultiChoice has introduced two sports channels to a bouquet that costs about N6,000 ($30) per month. Nigerian subscribers can now watch the English Premier League and the Spanish La Liga. This move, to many Nigerians is fair enough. But they would have wanted the CPC to move earlier. But it is not only the CPC that is moving late, the United States’ Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has also just taken steps to increase competition in the US cable set-top box industry. Cable customers in the US rent the boxes at an average cost of $231 per year in addition to cable TV charges. What now? Compliance to recent orders by the CPC regardless, MultiChoice should prepare itself for what may come out of a public hearing Nigeria’s Senate President said lawmakers would have with stakeholders like the Nigerian Broadcast Commission (NBC) and the Consumer Protection Council. The hearing, according to Dr Bukola Saraki is aimed at working out “ways to ensure that Nigerian customers are protected from exploitation, and to guarantee that our regulatory agencies begin to take their responsibilities as ‘Watchdogs’ more seriously”. “Distinguished Senators noted that Multichoice’s arbitrary subscription charges, price hikes and refusals to adopt a pay-as-you- use model, affect Nigerian subscribers negatively,” the Senate President said in a statement. With other issues raised by consumers seemed to have been addressed by the CPC, the pay-as- you-use-model is expected to be advocated by stakeholders at the public hearing to be organised by the Senate Committee on Information. As far as MultiChoice is concerned, its business model for now does not accommodate pay-as-you-watch which the company has noted is being mistaken for pay- per-view, as the company wants to be able to offer affordable services. “Anywhere in the world, pay per view is materially more expensive for the person who wants to watch only that piece of content, than binding all the content together and spreading over the time market. It is just a mathematical calculation; it is not that complicated,” Tim Jacobs, chief executive officer of Multichoice in an interview published last October. However, what Nigerian consumers are asking for is not a model that charges $99 for the Manny Pacquiao versus Mayweather fight, but one that allows consumers subscribe for the channels they watch. As far as Nigerian consumers are concerned, whether they will end up paying much more than they pay now if they choose the channels they want to pay for, is a discussion for another time. While MultiChoice faces the threat posed by the fast growing Video-on-Demand industry in Nigeria, especially Netflix whose arrival in the country is putting providers of similar service on their toes, it also faces a threat to its business from the Nigerian Senate which is firing regulatory bodies up to ensure the South African company dances to the tunes they play. Halliburton Co., which provides well-drilling services for oil companies, is cutting 5,000 more jobs as the industry continues to struggle with slumping oil prices. A company spokeswoman said Thursday that the latest cuts will amount to about 8 percent of the Houston- based company’s global workforce. Oil prices have tumbled about 70 percent since peaking above $100 a barrel in mid-2014. That has led to less drilling activity and to widespread layoffs in the oil fields. Halliburton rival Schlumberger cut 10,000 jobs in the fourth quarter. Benchmark U.S. crude settled at $33.07 a barrel on Thursday, up 92 cents or nearly 3 percent. Halliburton spokeswoman Emily Mir said the company was reducing its workforce “due to ongoing market conditions.” Mir said the company regretted the decision, “but unfortunately we are faced with the difficult reality that reductions are necessary to work through this challenging market environment.” When the layoffs are completed, Halliburton will have reduced its workforce by between 26,000 and 27,000 employees since the peak in 2014, she said. Halliburton grew from 58,000 employees in 2010 to more than 80,000 during 2014. It slashed that number to 65,000 by the end of 2015, according to regulatory filings. Halliburton declined to say where the layoffs would fall, saying that such details were competitive information. The company’s operations stretch from the U.S. through Africa and the Middle East to Asia. Last month, CEO David Lesar said that when the company began looking to cut costs, “it started with where we work.” Halliburton consolidated facilities in more than 20 countries and closed operations in two, he said. Lesar said that “2016 is shaping up to be one tough slog through the mud.” He said Halliburton was trying to work with the financially strongest oil companies that will do best when the industry recovers. In November 2014, Halliburton announced that it would buy U.S. rival Baker Hughes Inc. for $34.6 billion. The companies are divesting assets as they seek approval from antitrust regulators, and Baker Hughes also has cut thousands of jobs. Halliburton shares rose 4 cents to close at $32.50 on Thursday. They are down 4.5 percent in 2016 and more than 25 percent in the past year. https://www.today.ng/news/world/85199/halliburton-to-cut-another-5000-jobs-amid-oil-slump Halliburton to cut another 5,000 jobs amid oil slump https:///rUF47ZDWbZ via @todayng https:///9M9L1RJjf3 |

Funded by Australian billionaire Clive Palmer, an exact replica of the Titanic is being built by the cruise company Blue Star Line. The Titanic II features all of the luxuries present on the original ship, mimicking almost all of the design with a few modern touches. Not to worry about the whole sinking issue, as can be seen in the graphic of the ship above, there will be enough life boats for every passengers. The ship will certainly be a step back in time for many, a luxury that is not often found in the modern society we live in. There won’t even be present luxuries like TV or internet, rather guests will be urged to enjoy some much needed separation from their devices and media. The bones of the ship are being built up to current standards; underneath the historical facade is a technologically advanced cruise ship. Unlike the original Titanic, the maiden voyage of the Titanic II will be from Jiangsu, China, to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. For those who may worry about their stay aboard the luxury cruise liner being sub par, even the economy rooms feature elegant interior. No word yet on what taking a trip on the ship will cost, but tickets are certainly going to go fast given the uniqueness of the opportunity. There will always be those who worry about the replica ship repeating the fate of its original twin, but that worry may just drive sales up for a chance to sail through history. Even the workout room will be old-fashioned, featuring historically accurate equipment of the time period. The ship’s builders are seeking to give travelers an accurate feeling of what it would have been like to sail on what was the definition of luxury at the time. While it may seem like a waste of money to some, the creation of such a ship is seen as a great way to remember the past. Judging by the amount of media coverage the ship’s construction is getting, there seems to be a long line of future passengers waiting to take the trip. If you have the money and want to spare no expense to experience the essence of luxury living in 1912, then the lovely state room is for you. From the finest of woods to the most elegant stone, no expense is being spared to give the first class suites everything one could desire. Designers have even created electric lighting and fireplaces meant to resemble their coal and gas counterparts. Whether you are a history buff or just want to experience living a century earlier, you won’t have to wait much longer. As mentioned before, the new Titanic II sets sail in 2018 and will surely make headlines across the world. More images and even an interactive walkthrough of the ship can be seen on Blue Star Line’s website featured here. http://interestingengineering.com/exact-replica-of-the-titanic-sets-sail-in-2018/

An average Nigerian is a very religious person. It is common place to find most Nigerians spend a productive part of their day in the church or at the mosque.Nigeria has been rated as one of the most religious nations in the world and to think that this very religious nation also ranks as one of the most corrupt in the world leaves any logical mind in confusion. A lot of people (even Nigerians themselves) may have wondered why Nigerians love religion so much! In helping the curious minds, 5 reasons why this is so… (1) Religion is an escape: The Nigerian state is structured in a way such that it offers no alternatives for its people. With high unemployment rates, improper social amenities, family and societal struggles, the church or mosque becomes an escape for the average Nigerian. (2) Motivational institution: Church/religion in Nigeria has become some sort of motivational institutes. Pastors are usually more of motivational speakers thank they are preachers of the good news. Because the state of Nigeria has left many downtrodden, they find succor in the motivational talks even though they know it only edify their body, not their soul. (3) Miracles : Nigerians are always in constant search for miracles. With horrible health facilities and high cost of hospital bills and medication, religion have been the last resort. Nigerians will gladly troop to churches and mosques or any other religious outfit that offer miracles to heal their diseases which would have cost a fortune to heal by doctors. (4) Laziness : People nowadays do not want to work, they just wanna go to use religion as a front to make easy cash. For Christians, they would rather fast and pray 7 days of the week than go out and make a living and earn their daily bread. (5) Societal pressures: The pressure from the society to be prosperous like our mates, be married at a certain age and so on, has driven many Nigerians to become religious. You see religious leaders promising husband to unmarried ladies or the prospect of finding one in their religious gathering if only you would join and be loyal and committed. Do you agree ![]() http://howng.com/5-reasons-why-nigerians-are-so-religious/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook |

A former Syrian jihadist has completely turned his life around after being contacted by a top United Arab Emirates modeling agency and quitting jihad for a more quiet life, reports the Dubai Herald this morning. Ahmed Rahman Yasin, 23, is living a true Cinderella story as the modeling offer has drastically changed his life for the best. “I never believed for a minute that I could serve Allah in such a positive way,” he explains. “I was taught that jihad is about murdering the enemies of Islam, now I know there are many ways to serve Allah” he told reporters, visibly happy with the turn of events. “I still feel that I am living the jihad way and fulfilling my oath towards Allah, but in a more spiritual and creative way,” he admits. According to Scoop, the struggling artist joined the Free Syrian Army two years ago to make ends meet. “Most of my family perished in crossfire attacks between jihadist groups and the Syrian army forces. I could barely survive on my own since the family home and my village were destroyed two years ago. I was famished and left with no family to support me and so my new family became the jihad,” he told reporters. The young man’s picture went viral on Arabic social media as many women shared his photo under the label of a “hot” and “sexy” jihadist. “After my picture went viral, a modeling agent tracked me down and arranged a meeting” he recalls, visibly emotional. “I will be eternally thankful to my agent, Yassim Atef, for the new life filled with opportunity he has given me” he admits, a tear in his eyes. http://nigeriacamera.net/56725-2/

Which country produces the largest number of engineering graduates per year? The United States? No. Japan? No. These two countries might be the obvious choices but it looks like neither one of them made the top of the list. According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, the country that produces the highest number of engineering graduates per year is Russia, followed by the United States and Iran. According to their report, Russia produces almost half a million engineering graduates every year and both the United States and Iran producing slightly over a quarter of a million engineering graduates each year. Where is China and India you ask? Surely the two most populated countries in the world have to be there somewhere. Well it seems like nothing has been said about them because no data was available from these two countries. Normally, it is expected that countries such as the United States and Japan would make the cut. But what is even more interesting is that some of the developing countries are also starting to make the top 10 as well. Countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia can be seen to produce over 100,000 engineering graduates annually. An impressive feat indeed. According to the World Economic Forum, “talent will be the key factor linking innovation, competitiveness and growth in the 21st century”. Based on these pieces of information, it seems like developing countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam might just have a very bright future ahead of them. http://interestingengineering.com/top-10-countries-with-the-most-engineering-graduates/

Contrary to what many advertised drug tests might promise, not all substances leave their telltale chemical signature in the body for the same amount of time. The moment we take a drug — whether we snort, smoke, or swallow it — our bodies begin to break it down. In the process, metabolites, or byproducts, of the drug are produced, which can linger in our blood, urine (and even in our hair) for long after the initial effects of the drug are felt. Traces of these metabolites are what drug testers look for, since they're a good indication that someone has actually used a drug rather than merely come into accidental contact with it. And while hair-based drug tests are fairly accurate, tests of blood and urine are simply unable to detect the vast majority of drugs, so long as you haven't used for about a week. Heroin, for example, is generally undetectable in urine after three to five days. As the chart below shows, traces of drugs like LSD, morphine, heroin, amphetamines, and alcohol all remain in the blood for just 12 hours or less. For urine, the window of detectibility is a little bit wider — roughly three to six days for LSD, MDMA, and morphine, for example — and up to 30 days for marijuana: Hair-based drug tests are the most accurate, as the chart below shows, since traces of everything from alcohol to morphine can remain in the follicle for up to 90 days: http://www.businessinsider.com/how-long-various-drugs-stay-in-your-body

All a man really wants is a good woman by his side. Men have just as hard of a time trying to find a good woman as women have trying to find a good man. Women have to kiss frogs in order to find a Prince and men have to wade through pools of women, who for the sake of the cleanliness of this article we will just say crazy women, worthless woman, b’s, h’s, gold diggers, and you fill in the blanks. A good woman is comprised of much more than being a woman who keeps a clean house and puts a hot meal on the table.. Things like that are nice and pretty much a necessity depending on the relationship, but they are only the basics. Many women say they want a good man but have you asked yourself if you’re a good woman? I have a surprise for you! Beautiful young African woman covering her boyfriend eyes with hands and smiling while isolated on grey background Here are a few traits of a good woman: 1.ENCOURAGING/SUPPORTIVE/MOTIVATES – A good woman isn’t quiet with no input. She’s full of ideas to help improve your business, outlook in life and overall health. She supports her mans ideas and motivates him to accomplish his goals. A good woman is a good listener. Ultimately she is able to change you without trying. A good woman makes you a better man. 2. SHE KEEPS HIM HONEST – A man is not allowed to be lazy when he’s in a relationship with a good woman. She makes him honest. If you tend to make excuses for why you can’t do something a good woman will call you ou ton your bs and make you shape up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ??If you want a promotion, but claim to not be able to get one she will quickly let you know that in all honestly you’re not doing enough. A good woman will always encourage her man to make an honest living that he can be proud of. Most importantly she knows how to talk to him and tell him these things without being down on him. 3.KING HIM – Feeding your man grapes, strawberries and parading around in little enticing outfits is delightful, but what about providing him with some mental stimulation. A good woman not only speaks to the King in her man, but she also treats him as such. She sees potential in him. She treats you like he is the most capable and deserving man in the world, in addition to spoiling and catering to him in the most feminine way. A good woman will often make a man feel like he’s the only man who exists in her eyes. There is power in a good woman who can push her man to new heights.. A good woman sees greatness in her King. She thinks he’s amazing and makes him feel as such. A good woman is so amazing that she will have a man feeling like Nas, when he made “If I Ruled The World.” She will have him feeling like anything is possible, like he could actually change the world.. Imagine that, or simply google Barack Obama. 4.SHE’S SECURE – A good woman is secure within herself and not easily jealous over other women. She’s not quick to put the next woman down just because she thinks the woman looks good and provides competition to her own looks. No man wants an insecure woman who is always messing up his business deals because she thinks he’s flirting with or having sexual relations with the women he works with. 5.STABILITY – Women often look for stability in a man. What they don’t know is that it’s their characteristics as a woman that cause a man to become stable. Most relationships are temporary, you actually know they will expire any minute. She makes him think about a future with her. A good woman will make you think of your goals and plans and make sure they are in alignment with what you want out of life. If a woman wants a stable man then she needs to be stable herself. That’s one of the top signs of a good woman. 6.ALLERGIC TO GOLD DIGGING – A good woman doesn’t require that you buy her expensive gifts in order to obtain or maintain her affection. She’s just as happy with sentimental gifts from a man as she would be with a gift of Louboutin shoes. It’s not all about money with her, it’s all about you and the man whom you are. When a man finds a good woman that’s when those wedding bells start to ring. http://www.tellyouall.com/6-signs-good-woman/ |
The Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and its mobile subsidiary (MTEL) are to employ 10,000 Nigerians, the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications has been informed. The new owners of the once state-owned telecommunications giant, NATCOM, which is a consortium of seven local and foreign companies, made the disclosure at an investigative public hearing by the committee on over the weekend in Abuja. NATCOM chairman, Mr. Olatunde Ayeni, had told the House committee that having met all requirements and due diligence in the process leading to the acquisitions of NITEL and MTEL, the company has put in place a programme of resuscitating the two ailing telecoms companies. According to Ayeni, efforts were ongoing at overhauling the entire cable system while 10,000 Nigerians would be employed to set the companies on the part of competition with other players in the market. While expressing satisfaction with NATCOM and its work-plan, the Hon. Saheed Fijabi-led committee directed both the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to meet and discuss the sales of the two national telecoms firms. The parley according to the committee, was to review the commercial and technical areas of the sale as they affect the telecommunications regulatory body and the BPE. The committee particularly expressed its concern over the settlement of the indebtedness of NITEL by its new owner, NATCOM. The committee however noted that though NATCOM did all that were required of it despite not been given any form of waiver by BPE and NCC in the process leading to the sales, but pointed out that it was however necessary that the grey areas of NITEL’s indebtedness be sorted out by the BPE and NCC. The committee also mandated the BPE and NCC to report back to it after the said meeting. http://www.leadership.ng/news/499157/privatisation-nitel-mtel-employ-10000-nigerians-natcom |
1. Sit up/Stand up. Very hardly do you wake up in the morning, stay lying in bed and not fall back to sleep, especially when having your devotion lying down. I have found that you have a greater chance at a successful morning devotion when you stand up from your bed, either you -Sit up (supporting your back with a pillow or against the wall) -Sit up with your leg touching the floor. -Stand up (either in a spot or pacing the room) -Knee down upright (not resting your head on anything) In general, when you stand up or sit up after waking up to have your morning devotion, you have a greater chance to an effective devotion that morning. 2. Start by praying.. Attempting to read and study the bible immediately after waking up, even after you’ve sat up might not turn out successful as the eyes is still a little dizzy and the body still sluggish from the sleep, so start by praying. 3. Pray out loud. Except the case where you have a roommate you might disturb by raising your voice while praying, I will advise you be audible at least to yourself while praying during your devotion. Being audible to yourself helps you stay conscious, as compared to “thinking” or mumbling your prayer. So, be audible, better still, you can leave the room, take a walk praying (in your compound, in your street…) 4. Keep songs playing. I have also found out that I have a successful devotion the morning I play music immediately I wake up, often times it’s always worship songs that stirs me up to pray, the likes of Bethel music, Jesus Culture, Hillsong, Nathaniel Bassey and Sinach. Playing music while praying and studying the bible keeps you aware, so you know when you begin to doze off, but much more than keeping you aware, it stirs up your spirit. I will recommend you play songs you know their lyrics so you can sing/hum along. 5. Keep worries out.. You have the probability of not going through your devotion when you have your mind bothered by something, the something being probably an assignment to be submitted that morning, or the days you wake up late, so do all to not have anything bothering your mind to av your distracted. If you need to have your bath and dress up first before you start your devotion, very well or do the assignment first. Make sure your heart is void of anything that will distract your focus from God and Him alone. 6. Keep a schedule. There is a lot of wisdom in keeping a devotion schedule, it gives more direction. By a schedule, I mean; - Have a time, start and stop. (and set a daily alarm) - Have the bible passage you’ll read. - If possible, make a prayer schedule. Make a list of prayer points. All these gives direction to your devotion time and makes it even much more fruitful. 7. Be flexible.. I know this might be a little opposite to the above point, but it’s wise to know when you need to change method (like sitting up, or standing up), or when you need to change the time you have your devotion. I believe these tips will amplify the productivity of your devotion time, they will help you have an effective and meaningful devotion time. Are there methods that have helped you? Kindly share in a comment below. http://www.lifegiva.com/2016/02/02/quick-tips-to-having-a-meaningful-morning-devotion/ |

A nitwit wannabe thief broke into a stranger’s garage with the intent to steal, but what he got wasn’t stolen merchandise. Instead, the man broke into a garage in which the owner of the home was already IN the garage, and what he got was a swift introduction to justice. The to-be thief was met with a physical confrontation and the thug lost the battle, even after brandishing a firearm. Check out the vicious mug shots below. Police reports indicate that Kevin Mitchell Gonzales, 28, tried to illegally gain entry into a home in Longview, Texas, but things went horribly wrong. At some point during the home invasion, the homeowner walked into the garage, prompting a physical struggle. Try getting a job instead of robbing people’s homes.
