[quote author=YankeeRealtor post=97511833]Good day House, below is my situation:
I am Nigerian but reside in Canada. I have an account with GTB with roughly N16m; I opened the account with aggressive contributions from here because I had plans to build my retirement home, but my plans have changed. Currently I intend to find a reliable broker what would let me use 90% of my funds to invest in some U.S stock for maybe 10-15years; I mean letting N16m idle in my savings account with little monthly interest payment from GTB isn't quite encouraging.
So, guys, what are your recommendations? During registration, my residential address has to match my ID documents here in Canada, as I don't have a Nigerian address-- I dig Trading212 but they don't support Canada. Does any member of this forum have a similar situation? How did you go about it?
I appreciate your guys' help. And by the way, I did read through the entire 205 pages, but nothing relates to my situation.
Thanks for your help guys! |

OakPearl: Chai...see Fastly that collapsed to less than $90 some weeks ago in the name of Trump's Tik Tok ban. It is now $130!
I announced here that i will sell to buy the panic-induced dip; and I did just that. That move is paying off handsomely.
See ehn, in this market, you just need to have "STRONG HEAD" as we call it in pidgin English at times. Fastly just lost $30 after hours today. Damn |

swizy: So this news has been flying around in a WhatsApp group and people involved seem not to want to speak up or take proper actions. This is me doing the little I can to alert y'all.
There is a fraudulent travel agent by name MR AFUNKU YUSUF ADENIYI going about duping people in the name of getting a cheap flight ticket for them. He appears to be registered with NANTA (National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies) and his ID shows he is a valid member on their website. A recent victim got his number from the group and asked for confirmation from those who booked with him. From series of comments, he is in the habit of giving fictitious booking ref numbers even though he managed to conclude bookings for some people but they went through alot of stress to get him to do that which took like couple of weeks to months. One of the members in the group went to confirm from Lufthansa and was told he was blacklisted a while back. And the Lufthansa staff said a number of people have come to make same confirmations of non existent bookings.
Back to the recent victim. Apparently he sent a booking ref no to this person who confirmed it on the airlines site or so. After a couple of days, going back to check again, the booking has be voided. All efforts to reach this agent became futile as he went incommunicado. We were alerted in the group today about this happening and we were trying to find out who recommended him to the group. Now the part paining me is that someone else in this whatsapp group was sending the screenshot of the conversation going on to him. He has an accomplice in the group!. They managed to get across to mr fraud and he had the guts to say that he is aware he's been called out in the group and gave more long stories and epistles.
More stories are coming up of people he duped and still haven't refunded till date. He is still acting innocent and full of stories according to those that managed to get across to him on phone. I don't even know what to make out of this anymore.
Anyway... if you happen to come across this name, Afunku Yusuf Adeniyi, face or number +234 803 497 0977 anywhere, please shout it and perhaps warn whoever it is to flee from Mr Afunku cos he is a confirmed fraud.
P.s I don't know what the people he duped have done or are doing. They aren't saying anything else in the group. It seems they want to pardon the fraud and the accomplice still in the group. This is really sad. Why would someone be duped and still keep quiet? Tue group admins should weed out the accomplice in the group. Thanks for sharing this |

einsteino: Ryerson University has a bridging program for Engineers. However, I think one of the requirements is that you submit a PEO committee review letter, meaning you first need to have applied for P.Eng and have been instructed by PEO to take further training inorder to meet its academic requirements. In my opinion, aside from PEng license, it doesnt really help you much in the job market.
There is a chemical Engineer I know that recently landed a process engineer job, you might want to hook up with him for pointers. We have a very small whatsapp group of Nigerian Engineers in Canada, it might help to join the group to get a diverse opinion as I can only know so little outside my discipline(Civil Engrng). ok thanks. Please will yoh be kind enough to point me to the group and possibly the Chemical Engineer? |

Please, any bridging program for Chemical /Process engineers? Most of the bridging programs offered by the settlement agencies are usually tailored towards Civil/Mechanical/Electrical.

Fiona111: Being following this thread since April last year and am glad to announce that ITA arrived like a thief in the night yesterday. I did medicals at prime medical consultants in PH yesterday in anticipation of Wednesday draw but IRCC had other plans. Although my experience at prime medicals was not the best waking up to getting ITA has rejuvenated me. Congratulations on your ITA. I did mine @Prime last month. It was smooth and lasted less than 25 mins. - just a couple and their child and myself. Register for a Planning for canada session coming up next month in PH. |

nikkytj11: Hello...I’m new here, I have a friend with a complicated work history and travel history and I need advice from the house. She has applied to several countries like the US, Italy, Spain and Canada for a tourist visa in recent times with different work documents which she was issued some of this visas and denied some. Her problem now is, for the EE, she don’t know if she would need to input all this work experience as most of the dates are interwoven and some of it don’t even exist and could cause doubts leading to misrepresentation considering that US has recently cancelled her previous visit visa without renewing it after expiration.... please she need serious help hmmm. This is really tricky. I do not know for sure what information is shared amongst countries during background checks, but I think it's basically to know the reasons for visa refusal or deportation as case may be. People have gotten PPR even when they've overstayed in other countries. if work history is shared. then your friend could be penalised. it pays to be truthful or consistent with information in visa applications. |

I also noticed most of the apartments are unfurnished unlike what is obtainable in the UK Ayoboy1: These are my fears exactly. We are landing in a few weeks in Mississauga and all I can see are 2-bedrooms basements for 1000-1300. I also have energetic kids and I can’t even think. When I check places like Alberta and I see houses for the same price it’s hard to make a case for Ontario except you are fixed on working in the financial sector.
