The Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig.- Gen. P.T. Boroh has refuted allegations making the rounds that his office is owing arrears in payment to beneficiaries of the amnesty programme. In a press release signed by the Chief of Staff, Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta/Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Colonel Dedis Abel (Rtd), the Amnesty Office stated that these allegations were merely the handiwork of sponsored groups and individuals, who were hell bent on tarnishing the reputation of the new Special Adviser and Coordinator of the programme. “These allegations stem from claims of alleged non-payment of arrears in the Amnesty Office which Colonel Dedis Abel (Rtd) noted is being perpetrated in a bid to tarnish the reputation of the new Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta (SAPND) and the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme”, he said. The agency stated that it had paid every beneficiaries up to the month of June 2015. He explained further that based on the Federal Government’s directive on the CBN Treasury Single Account, the Amnesty Office was no longer directly involved or responsible for remittances as all payments were now being made from the CBN Treasury Single Account (TSA) to eliminate fraud. “The Chief of Staff thereby calls on members of the Public to debunk all reports not obtained directly from the Amnesty Office Call Centre, where all information relating to the Amnesty Programme is being made available first hand to interested parties by the Amnesty Office Media Team. “The Amnesty Office reassures members of the Public that payments for July and August 2015 are being processed and would be released once funds are allocated”, the statement added. http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/15/we-are-not-owing-anybody-presidential-amnesty-office/

The 20 – year-old domestic servant was jailed by Magistrate A.T. Omoyele of a Lagos Magistrates’ Court, Igbosere, after she pleaded guilty to the offence brought under Section 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2011. She was alleged to have stolen the underwear belonging to Mrs. Bisi Awoniyi, as well as other valuables worth N295, 000. The police had alleged that the convict who was employed by the complainant in June with a monthly salary of N20,000, committed the offence on September 9 at about 9:30am, at Isale Eko Way, Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos. She was said to have stolen sets of underwear, three pairs of Buba and wrappers, seven pieces of pants, 10 pieces of handkerchiefs, bracelets and seven pieces of face towels, among others. Micheal, according to the police, was caught on the fateful day after Mrs. Awoniyi found her hand towel in the convict’s bag. Aitee1:seriously...thats the best way to stop rape in this country. |
Aisha Buhari, wife of the President, has urged government at all levels in the country to enforce the law on rape in order to protect women and children. Aisha stated this when she received some staff of the Ministry of Women Affairs, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, UNICEF, and National Population Commission, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ezekiel Oyemomi, who came to brief her on the plan to launch an action to end violence against children, slated for 15 September. The President’s wife said it had become necessary for government and international organizations to pursue policies and laws to protect women and children against the act. “A number of cases on violence against women and children are being reported on daily basis with the most alarming one of those happening in higher institutions of learning. These include sexual harassment and assaults of female students by lecturers as a result of lack of laws and appropriate actions against the perpetrators. “We are aware of the national law on rape passed this year on May 25 (Prohibition Act 2015) which states imprisonment ranging from 12 to 20 years. I advocate for the enforcement of this law at all levels. Unfortunately, children are the most vulnerable, being exploited at different stages of their lives,’’ she explained. “It is my hope that with this renewed commitment by agencies, necessary steps will be taken to end violence against women and children particularly where this is rampant,” Aisha noted, adding that “The issue of the violence against children was dear to her heart and would do every possible to salvage the disadvantage situation of children and other vulnerable groups in the society.” http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/15/aisha-buhari-urges-government-to-enforce-law-on-rape-to-protect-women-children/

The Police Service Commission, PSC, on Monday said the enforcement of the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari on the withdrawal of policemen from Very Important Personalities, VIP, who are not entitled to their services, was on course. It will be recalled that President Muhhamdu Buhari had directed the withdrawal of policemen from VIPs that are not entitled to police services. This was disclosed by the Commissioner in charge of Media at the commission, Ms Comfort Obi, in Abuja, adding that the commission was ensuring that the directive was enforced to the latter. “The PSC and the current IGP are making efforts to ensure that the directive was complied with. “I think there is a considerable level of compliance, it is not a day’s job, it is a gradual process. “If both the PSC and the Force headquarters continue with the way they are doing, there will be an appreciable level of compliance,” she said. Obi said the country cannot afford to allow its personnel engage in non-police duty in view of the current security challenges, lamenting that policemen were no longer performing their constitutional duty of protecting lives and property. “Police are no longer performing their police duty. You will see policemen at the airport carrying people’s luggages, newspapers and hand bags. “Policemen are not employed to go and carry people’s luggages but to protect Nigerians. She also added that some of these policemen were illegally engaged by people who felt they have money, insisting that any police officer who was not happy with the directive should resign and go and work for the people they preferred to work with. She said: “If they are not happy with the order, they are free to leave the service and get employed by the big men. “I think some of them would be happy because they are being treated condescendingly. “Many of them that have spoken to me are very happy with the order because they are shabbily treated.” Obi equally disclosed that the IGP, who is in charge of operational aspect of the police, was serious about the directive. http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/14/we-are-already-withdrawing-policemen-from-vips-psc/

oluwaSmith1:lol....But like seriously, Fayose get mind! |
The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has reacted to newspapers advertorials by the state governor, Ayodele Fayose, accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of being a dictator by allegedly sending Department of State Services operatives to invade the Akwa Ibom Government House, Uyo. The party insisted that the operatives had not violated the nation’s law by moving against illegal arms dump, large enough to illegally topple a democratically elected government. The party, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, on Sunday, said the DSS operatives acted in the nation’s interest to check what would have been a threat to national stability and reversal of fortunes for the nation’s economy. “Let us educate Fayose that a Government House is not the same as foreign embassies or missions that enjoy physical immunity from security activities by local armed forces. “While a governor enjoys immunity from physical and body security search, the same cannot be said of the Government House because no law in the nation’s constitution says the Government House should be a breeding ground for insurrection and insurgency where state enemies can assemble arms to topple a legitimate government and we suspect Fayose as an accomplice in the arms stockpiling saga in the Akwa Ibom Government House, otherwise there is no reason for him to be edgy and agitated in his response,” Olatunbosun explained. The party condemned Fayose for trying to whip public sentiment against DSS operatives for performing their legitimate duty to secure the country, adding that no amount of blackmail would stop security agents from performing their legal duties against violent and corrupt governors. Olatubosun added: “We know why Fayose is blackmailing DSS in this matter. Ekiti Government House is home to thugs and criminal elements armed to the teeth that the governor has been using against the opposition. “They were used on massive scale during the last elections to attack the opponents. As we speak, they are still lodged in the Government House where they take off at nights to rob and kidnap innocent Ekiti people. “We never had this kind of experience for four years of Governor Kayode Fayemi until Fayose started his campaign with importation of criminals that have been stalking the state residents. “We call on DSS to be alert to its responsibilities of maintaining internal cohesion and security integrity across the country and should comb everywhere, including the Aso Rock if need be, to ensure that no man in authority constitutes himself as a security risk to the nation’s unity.” The statement further warned the people of Ekiti State to be wary of Fayose’s inciting statements meant to set them against the Federal Government.
