BUHARI MEETS JONATHAN AT STATE HOUSE ABUJA (VIDEO)

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT BUHARI RECEIVES BRIEFING FROM EX-PRESIDENT JONATHAN, TO CONFER WITH OTHER ECOWAS LEADERS ON MALI CRISIS

President Muhammadu Buhari will consult with key leaders of ECOWAS countries in order to find a solution to the crisis rocking Republic of Mali.

The President made the pledge Tuesday while receiving reports from ECOWAS Special Envoy to Mali, former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former President was at State House, Abuja, in company of President of ECOWAS Commission, Mr Jean-Claude Kassi Brou.

“We will ask the President of Niger, who is the Chairman of ECOWAS to brief us as a group, and we will then know the way forward,” President Buhari said.

He thanked Dr Jonathan for his comprehensive brief on the situation in Mali, “which you had been abreast with since when you were the sitting Nigerian President.”

The former President had filled in President Buhari on his activities as Special Envoy to restore amity to Mali, rocked by protests against President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, who has spent two out of the five years second term in office.

A resistance group, M5, is insisting that the Constitutional Court must be dissolved, and the President resign, before peace can return to the country.

Crisis had erupted after the court nullified results of 31 parliamentary seats in the polls held recently, awarding victory to some other contenders, which the resistance group said was at the instigation of President Keita.

Riots on July 10 had led to the killing of some protesters by security agents, causing the crisis to spiral out of control, hence the intervention by ECOWAS.

“ECOWAS can’t preside over the removal of an elected President. Not even the African Union (AU), or the United Nations (UN) can do it. Leaders must be elected and leave under constitutional processes, otherwise we would have Banana republics all over the place,” Dr Jonathan submitted.

The former President thanked President Buhari for providing a Presidential jet for the mission, “thus making our trips convenient and comfortable,” and he equally expressed appreciation for the Itakpe-Warri railway complex named after him last weekend.

“It was a big present for me. Thank you very much,” he said.

But, I know ipob miscreants must scream Buharis's name as has been the case since 5 yrs ago.

If it is economic boom that is expected, trust them. Same miscreants will attribute it to something else. That is the macabre dance they have demonstrated in the case of Nigerian Stock Market.

Foreign AffairsRe: Iran Executes A Man For Drinking Alcohol by DopeChick(m): 4:56pm On Jul 10, 2020
Alcohol kills, one way or the other.

SonOfALion:
Iran's Human Rights Organization (IHR) announced on Thursday, July 9, that authorities have executed a prisoner in Mashhad Central Prison for "drinking alcohol."

Citing the prisoner's attorney, the Norway-based IHR confirmed that the man was hanged early Thursday, without giving his name. Some Iranian activities on social media said his name was Morteza Jamali and he had two children.

"My client was arrested and convicted of drinking alcohol for the sixth time. Of course, there was also the issue of driving without a license and having alcohol," Hossein Habibi Shahri told IHR.

The Islamic Republic official sources have not yet confirmed or denied the news. Drinking alcohol is a crime in the clergy-dominated Iran, but executions for use of alcohol are rare. Iran is notorious for hanging drug smugglers, murderers and some political prisoners.

The execution has led to a strong backlash on Iranian social media as many users say that large corruption cases and extrajudicial killings of protesters go unpunished or end in light sentences while drinking brings the death penalty.

IHR director, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, said, "With this execution, the Islamic Republic's judicial system has once again proven that its views are no different from those of ISIS."

Based on the Islamic Penal Code a defendant can face the death penalty after being arrested and punished three times for alcohol consumption. The initial punishment for drinking is usually flogging.

"This is one of the few recorded executions for drinking alcohol in Iran. Due to the lack of transparency in the Islamic Republic's judiciary, most executions in Iran are not declared officially by the authorities," IHR statement said on Thursday.

The Triangular Group of Pensioners say there is no reason for any group of pensioners to embark on any form of protest against Osun State government.

The group said Governor Gboyega Oyetola has been paying all pensions and salaries since his assumption of office in 2018.

Chairman of the group, Rotimi Adelugba was speaking at a press conference organised to address issues of pension and gratuity in the State.

Adelugba said the group is constantly negotiating with government on issues bothering on payment of 142% and 30% arrears to entitled pensioners, monthly arrears owed by the past administration, gratuities of those who retired before 2012, full monthly pension among others.

He noted that most of these demands are being touched by the State government based on available resources from the Federal allocation and internally generated revenue.

Some pensioners in Osun State had last week reportedly protested in Ile-Ife over non payment of gratuities and pension arrears owed by the immediately past government of Rauf Aregbesola.
