Seun: False! Stop telling lies! The true percentage is 1.457%.You are are equally wrong, it is exactly 1.325%. There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics. |
To be fair, there is a difference between bribery and extortion. Not all who give police officers money are guilty of bribery. To bribe implies that one is seeking an undue advantage from someone in a position of authority in exchange of something of value. It will be very wrong for any morally upright person to do that. On the other hand what do you do think of a situation where someone is stopped at a police check point in the middle of nowhere and despite having all the particulars required to drive, the police still insist on being paid what i call a "passage fee". Would you call it a bribe? I just think it is just plain extortion. True, paying such money only emboldens our uniformed highway thieves as well as ingraining it into our culture, but i can hardly blame anyone for making such a payment out of concern for thier personal safety. |
ninja4life: Haha i never even give d story as much thought as dat nice interpretation thoughThe thought only came to me after i asked myself what would make a perfect man like Adam to accept the forbidden fruit if he wan't deceived. |
tobechi74: Romantic piece Pastor Olu T: Thoughtful, like that and bless you. Thanks for your positive feedback, I am glad you liked it even though it could have been written much better than i managed. |
At first blush, the story of Romeo and Juliet might not seem all that similar to that of Adam and Eve, but in fact they are quite close, sharing the same themes of sacrifice and defiance, of passionate love and total devotion to each other such that living life without the other becomes worse than death. The Romeo and Juliet story is well known, so i won't be dwelling on it as much as that of Adam and Eve that is relatively unknown. Recall that Adam became sad and despondent because he was lonely, there was none of his kind in the beautiful garden he could relate with and imagine how he must have felt on seeing Eve for the first time to have exclaimed; bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh! It was indeed love at first sight. Adam ate the fruit not because he was naive of the outcome,he new that eating it comes with a death sentence for the scripture tells us in 1Tim 2:14 that the man was not deceived. If he wasn't deceived, why did he eat the fruit? The answer is simple, Eve had already eaten the fruit(poison) that brings death and knowing that she was going to die, Adam made the fatal decision to die with her rather than to live in God's beautiful garden forever without his Eve. Adam loved Eve more than God and life to him was meaningless without Eve, so he rebelled against God, choosing to die with his wife rather than facing life alone and unhappy. Their love in many ways was like that of romeo and Juliet. It was deep, it was passionate and it was total. And like Romeo and Juliet, it was also selfish, self-centered and very irresponsible the sacrifice they were willing to make on account of their love irrespective of the effect it might have on others. |
blexon: See what poverty is doing to some ppl to the extent anytin good has turn to a sin, be there condemning nd sons of God will be changing levels in grandstyles. I ASK who among you will reject a private jet as a gift? You are suffering from the worst kind of poverty- poverty of reasoning. |
yoged: As far as my money isn't there. Aint my business. Its for God to judge not human. It is this kind of reasoning that is preventing nigeria from developing as a nation, it makes the people not to speak with the collective power of one voice, but with as many discordant voices as there are people too weak and too confused to be heard by their A community thrives better when its members understand that they exist not as many individual islands, but as one large landmass. It is more prosperous when its wealth is measured by how rich the poorest among them are rather than the rich. To belong to a community means looking out for your neighbor's interest even if it does not directly concern you. It means crying foul anytime there is foul play even when it's not your game. |
I can see that logicboy and ooman are beginning to bond, pretty soon they'll be as close as twins. |
Lots of claims without a shred of evidence to back up. |
musKeeto: Young man, touch not Gods annointed. This clip never fails to crack me up ![]() |
If your god is a god of justice, then tell us if it is just to subject someone to an eternity of agonising torture in a fiery hell for sins committed in one lifetime of less than 80 years |
Bobbysworld28: If God's word to Adam is dt he returns 2 lifelessness, wht abt d parable abt Lazarus & d rich man? Remember dt after Jesus died Spirits of dead before came out. It is believed dt they r cloud of witnesses dt went up with Jesus as he ascended. The rich man as you said was a parable, it wasn't a real event in the same way that the talking sheep and goats in Jesus' other parable never really spoke because they weren't real events, they symbolise something. As for having a cloud of witnesses ascending with jesus, you will have to ask those who say so for the scriptures that led them to that belief. My thought on it is that the people present at his Ascension were enough witness. |
Bobbysworld28: @doroxGod described death to Adam as a return to the lifeless state he was before he was created. If there is a soul that transcends death, that would have been a good time for God to tell him the fate of his soul after dying. But as it was, his only punishment was death, from dust to dust. In Jesus words, "no man has ascended up to heaven but the Son of man that descended to earth." Looking at that statement, it should tell you that none of the dead before he came have gone to heaven, they still remained as dust. Until He calls out with a loud voice and awaken those that would hear his voice, everybody remains as dust. |
In describing death to Adam, God told him that "from dust dust you were and to dust you shall return." How do you think that Adam understood that statement? That he has in immortal soul that can never die even after being cut off from God's life sustaining spirit? Or would he have understood the statement to mean that having been cut off from God's life sustaining spirit, he would gradually revert back to the same lifeless state that he was (dust) before he was created? Just like an electric fan on full blast gradually coming to a halt soon after it's power supply is cut off. |
I do recall being told stories of very powerful witch doctors that could afflict their enemies with smallpox, but the funny thing is that the eradication of the disease from the world appears to have brought an apparent end to people of such powers. Any thoughts as to why, other than the fact that such claims were in deed false? |
Elxandre: Are you guys kidding me? I dont blame you. If you ever had experienced spiritual warfare, would you be typing this post?Could you describe spiritual warfare to the inexperienced among us and also tell us how the spiritual warfare translates into the physical? |
musKeeto: @onyfrank: do you know chickens are a kind of fruit? . That question fit kill person with laughter. |

I'm sure he misses logicboy and he's not alone, you can count me among those who would like to see logicboy back in nairaland. This is my post about him when i nominated him as religious poster of the year. My vote goes to Logic boy, because i think he is the person whose absence from Nairaland would be felt the most. We may love him or hate him but we all seem to have an opinion of him one way or the other, good or bad, but never boring. |

wiegraf: Here's some more crap...I think it is bad manners quoting a lengthy post only to make a short reply, but not in the case of this gem by wiegraf. It deserves to be Quoted in full a thousand times and given a million likes for its sheer beauty. It is my hope that donlyone and his ilk have enough sense to understand what you have written, otherwise the time and effort you used in creating this beautiful write up would have been in vain. |
This thread is not about atheism, it's about the reason why we sometimes feel pressed down in our sleep. I am a christian, but on this issue I am in complete agreement with theist and atheist that have accepted the scientific explanation |
musKeeto: End of thread. No further questions from me.Reyginus is not interested in answering you simple questions, he is only wants to convince himself that he won the argument. |
