Well since they can choose to be part of the Arab League, then I suggest we form our own subsaharan union.

Pertaining to crime, I guess it is all about perceptions. Reading books and from individual reports, the people sound petrified.

On whether the prosperity of one country cannot cover the relative poverty of another, tell that to the racist parties in the white world, they regard all subsaharan Africa as one substandard unit, South Africa included(especially after Apartheid)

I appreciate ur attempts at humor Denex, but I hope Obama wins.

By the way I think the mob analogy is quite apt.

Clinton is as slithery, dishonourable and dubious as the Mafia

Politics › Re: Why Do People Love Clinton? by doyin13(op): 6:36pm On Jul 23, 2007
@Champredd

just when we were getting along fine. the surplus Clinton supposedly generated is in America considered a legacy of the Gingrich led Congress(Republican)

For much of his presidency Clinton was in fact a lame duck President.

Remember Congress is in charge of the American Budget. They approve all spending.

While the war is Bush's doing, it is largely responsible for the present deficits.

By the way, the Dow recently touched 14000. So definitely the economy is in good shape.

denex:
Which election victories? Which American Constituency?

And the closed door arena which a President can discuss issues with the people's representatives is called the National Assembly. It is should not be devoid of their will.
Pls let us not be so academic.

Seun:
If a president launches a war for the reason given by denex above, then he must be prepared to face the consequences if your decision turns out to be wrong. he must be prepared to pay for his mistake. He must be prepared to give back every life that has been lost as a result of his foolish decision. Yes!
Haba Seun, lets not be so naive.
Politics › Re: Why Do People Love Clinton? by doyin13(op): 6:23pm On Jul 23, 2007
@Seun

You keep praising Clinton. You forget his opportune bombing of a factory in Sudan at a time when he was having troubles.

I am not a Bush supporter but I respect a man with some substance and simply not style.

Bush might not appeal to you, but for the American constituency, the one which matters to him, he is found very charming. He has a Middle America way about him, that has led him to two election victories(and pls dont start on the 2000 elections)
Politics › Re: Why Do People Love Clinton? by doyin13(op): 6:18pm On Jul 23, 2007
I guess that would be a realistic possibility if it is realistic to announce to the whole country your military decisions without your enemy being informed.

Whether you like it or not there has to be a sphere where presidential prerogative will be independent of the public will.
Politics › Re: Why Do People Love Clinton? by doyin13(op): 5:54pm On Jul 23, 2007
Seun:
That's a very clever theory, but a wrong one. There's nothing about Zimbabwe/Nigeria that calls for an "action president". All the problems of Zimbabwe were caused by their action president. A cool president who allows the country to run itself and who only intervenes when he absolutely has to is the ideal president.

Zimbabwe was doing pretty fine until Mugabe woke up one day and decided to act against agriculture. angry
Well I guess you are agreeing with Denex then. Presidents should be docile beings, managers rather than visionary.

Let the whites still own most of the land, continue prevaricating over land settlement for native black folks and everything will be dandy.

I think you Denex and Seun are great visionaries. I definitely wont b voting 4 your presidencies then
Politics › Re: Why Do People Love Clinton? by doyin13(op): 5:50pm On Jul 23, 2007
denex:
What most Of you still do not know is that there is not supposed to be an action president in the USA. A president is a regulator, a kind of referee or moderator. He should swing into action when something is wrong but most times, just PRESIDE over things.

It is only a football match that is very abnormal that the referee would have much action to take. So it is countries like Zimbabwe and Western Sahara that should have action Presidents not the US, China and Russia.
So I guess Clinton got bored, becos there was nothing going on in the world, deided to whip out his jimmy and get a good suck in the cradle of the Presidency.

Well I wonder if Sep. 11 counts as a crisis that should whip a Pres. into action.

Perhaps rather than invade, he should have whipped out his jimmy too.

Maybe Laura just doesn't give blowjobs

@newera

i guess that raises questions regarding the author.

Do authors owe an obligation to their 'own' constituencies?

I remember Achebe used an authentic African voice to captivate the world, a voice that speaks to us but managed to intrigue the world at the same time

That chimamanda perhaps made a 'commercial' move I think diminishes her literary merit.

Before continuing, some clarifications.

By Africa, I basically mean Black Africa, so the quasi middle east North Africa is excluded.

Now to the topic.

Since we all know the historically condescending paternalistic attitude which white have towards us Africans, I have felt I have an interest in South Africa being a political and economic success.

But recently I have been worried.

That Zuma could become President is worrying.

The crime is way above Naija proportions

they are having problems with electricity and power as well.

While Apartheid South Africa was flawed for obvious reasons. I just so hope that the present black administration dont Bleep up.

It would make arguing that we are capable human beings to thiese Nazis very difficult.

@A-40

Its not the Chronic for the basic reason that Dre definitely aint as good a rapper as Nas

While I love Reasonable doubt, it simply does not have the pure street cred of Illmatic. From the RD album you can alredy hear snippets of the paid up flossing ho references that pervades shit hiphop today

As per Ready to Die, I know of no beta wordsmith to beat Biggie, but apart from say Juicy, his subject matter sucks. And i cannt give such a title to anything that came from puffy or his label.

so the Illmatic still wins.

Denex, you still insist on comparing Hitler to Bush.

Do you know what Hitler said, after the Nazis took Paris. That it took a lot of restraint for him to not raze one of the greatest cities i the world.

Lebensraum is a relic of a bygone colonial era. It also received sympathy from the other powers becos of the unjust peace which had been visited on the Germans after the first world war, when many of the colonial ''properties'' of the Germans had been consifcated.

But do you remember how the world watched while HItler got stronger and stronger with Clinton like leaders making excuses for him,

If Bush made any mistakes in Iraq it would be becos of a conceited military strategy which ignored the ramifications of the cache of Iraqi weapons falling into wrong hands and lack of foresight into the dangers of unsecured borders.

I will admit I was one of those who advocated for the invasion of Iraq becos I thought it would put an end to what was essentially a punitive siege on the ordinary people of the country. That the present situation has obtained does not point to any evil on our part, but to evil muslim ideologues and a conceited military strategy.

I know Seun has continually compared Bush for some reason to Hitler. Just becos both characters had convictions does not mean you should put them in the same basket without any mention of the nature of those convictions.

How can you possibly compare the extermination of millions of jews and the propagation of a rabidly racist ideology with a policy which although flawed has actively sought to show a humanistic side(even if hypocritical)?

If you wnat to pick out a conviction politician from that era to compare Bush to, then maybe you should pick Churchill instead. And remember Churchill for some reason during that era, decided that they would attack Nazi Germany from the African theatre, which echoes the current strategy of Bush to tackle terrorism all the way in Iraq!

That era also is informative becos we can also find someone to compare Clinton to- Neville Chamberlain, the agreement(with Hitler) waving British Prime Minister who against all the signs wanted to believe that Hitler would not go to war. That is a typical example of playing peacetime(cowardly) politics, and the history of these great Islands might have been the worse for it.
