Sijo01:Getting out of recession simply means getting out of negative economic growth. It does not imply fall in prices of goods and services. |

Dr Olayinka Ogunbode, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, said on Thursday that one out of every 10 pregnancies in Nigerian hospitals ended up as an ectopic pregnancy. Ogunbode made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan. He said the exact cause of ectopic pregnancy is unknown, but fallopian tube damage is a common cause. He noted that a fertilised egg can become caught in the damaged area of a tube and begin to grow there. "Common causes of fallopian tube damage that may lead to an ectopic pregnancy may be smoking by women. "Women who smoke or who used to smoke have higher risks of ectopic pregnancy although this is not common in Nigerian women. "Smoking is thought to damage the fallopian tube's ability to remove the fertilised egg toward the uterus. "Pelvic inflammatory diseases (PID), such as gonorrhea and Chlamydia infections are other major causes common in African women; PID can create scar tissue in the fallopian tubes," he said. Ogunbode added that surgery done to reverse a tubal ligation or to repair a scarred or blocked tube was another major cause of ectopic pregnancy. The gynaecologist said that a woman with an ectopic pregnancy experience common signs of early normal pregnancies like a missed period, tender breasts, nausea, fatigue, increased urination. "First signs of an ectopic pregnancy may include (usually) vaginal bleeding which may be light or heavy, abdominal pain or pelvic pain, that may start at about six to eight weeks after a missed period. "As the pregnancy progresses, other symptoms may develop, which may include stomach and pelvic pain which may get worse with straining or movement. "The pain may occur sharply on one side at first and then spread to the pelvic region, with severe vaginal bleeding, dizziness, signs of shock, shoulder pain which is caused by bleeding into the abdomen,'' he said. The consultant advised females of reproductive age to take precautionary measures by avoiding sexually transmitted diseases which may later damage their fallopian tubes. He said surgery was the only solution in the management of ectopic pregnancies, adding that early intervention approaches can always save the life of the patients. "When an ectopic pregnancy is located in an unruptured fallopian tube, every attempt is made to remove the pregnancy without removing or damaging the tube. "Emergency surgery is needed for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy," he said. https://nigerianfora.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=402&rid=18#msg_402 |
https://guardian.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/AACharcoal-1062x598.jpg Several studies have shown that activated charcoal can be used to treat skin ailments, diarrhoea, bad breath, constipation and body odour. It can be used as a poultice to treat insect stings, mushroom poisoning, poison ivy, cholera, dysentery, bites and inflammation. It is locally used in Nigeria to make the teeth whiter, as antidote to poison, to prevent fermentation in grounded beans, among others. But scientists are now applying activated charcoal not in water purification but as antidote to adverse drug reaction from overdose as well as treatment of many disease conditions such as liver damage, bloating, skin infections, high cholesterol, diarrhoea, flatulence, indigestion, and hangovers. CHUKWUMA MUANYA, Assistant Editor writes. Until now, activated charcoal was documented for use in treating medical conditions. It has been used by North American Indians to treat bruises, inflammation and skin infections. Activated charcoal has also been reported to help lower cholesterol, triglycerides and lipids found in the blood. According to Natural News, single teaspoon of activated charcoal has a surface area of approximately 10 000 square feet. It adsorbs (binds to and helps eliminate from the body) poisons, heavy metals, chemicals and intestinal gases that have thousands of times more weight than it has, making it very effective in detoxing and eliminating toxins and poisonous substances from the body. It is also able to adsorb many different pharmaceutical drugs, opium, cocaine, morphine, pesticides, chemicals, mercury and even lead. Several studies have shown that activated charcoal can be used to treat skin ailments, diarrhoea, bad breath, constipation and body odour. It can be used as a poultice to treat insect stings, mushroom poisoning, poison ivy, cholera, dysentery, bites and inflammation. It can also be used to treat snakebites in an emergency. Babies born with jaundice have been reportedly treated with activated charcoal as well. Activated charcoal is available in many different forms such as powder in a capsule, liquid form, suspension, chewable tablets and powder form. It is often used as an ingredient in body detox products and colon cleansers. Some people report that using activated charcoal when they have flu or other viruses helps them to recover quicker. The reason for this is that it is able to prevent viruses and bacteria from remaining active in the body while absorbing a great deal of their toxins before they have a chance to spread or multiply. Studies have shown that activated charcoal even has anti-ageing properties. It helps improve liver, adrenal gland and kidney functions with regular use. Those suffering from digestive ailments such as indigestion, bloating or gas can benefit from activated charcoal because the charcoal enters the digestive tract and absorbs excess gas, which may be present there. It also improves the functioning of the liver, heart and brain and helps to decrease cholesterol levels and the risk of coronary artery disease. Naturopaths recommend that when using activated charcoal, it is best to take it between meals and a few hours after using any vitamin or mineral supplements, as it may interfere with the absorption of these into the body. It must also be stored in a properly sealed container away from heat and moisture. It should preferably be used with water only, or taken alone, as anything else such as fruit juice or ice cream will cause it to lose a great deal of its effectiveness. Also, studies have shown that in large doses, activated charcoal may cause stools to turn black. This is normal. In large doses, it may also lead to diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting. Those suffering from obstruction of the bowel should not use this product. According to the Natural Standard Bottom Line Monograph, itchy skin may be caused by advanced chronic kidney failure and dialysis. Research suggests that activated charcoal may benefit people with this condition. The reasons for this benefit are not well understood. However, experts suggest that activated charcoal may adsorb a compound that causes the itching. Studies suggest that high levels of bile acids may lead to bile flow problems in pregnancy. Early evidence shows that activated charcoal may be effective in preventing this condition. Anticancer drugs have been found to be unsuccessful in reducing secondary cancer development in people who have had stomach cancer surgery. Early research suggests that chemotherapy with mitomycin C adsorbed onto activated charcoal (MMC-CH) may help increase survival rates after stomach cancer surgery. Some studies suggest that activated charcoal may adsorb gas. However, results are inconsistent. Early research reports that activated charcoal may lower cholesterol levels. Early research suggests that activated charcoal plus simethicone (with or without magnesium oxide) may reduce indigestion symptoms. More research is needed on the potential effects of activated charcoal alone. Research shows that activated charcoal may help reduce nitrogen-containing waste products. A low-protein diet combined with activated charcoal has been found to benefit elderly people who have advanced kidney disease. Other research found that Kremezin®, an activated charcoal formula sold in Japan, may have more benefit for kidney function than Merckmezin®, another product available in Japan. More research is needed in this area. Nigerian researchers from University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun State, have reported that activated charcoal is an adsorbent widely used in the treatment of wastewater and industrial contaminants by virtue of its high removal capacity and adaptability for a wide range of pollutants. The researchers in a study published in Enzyme Research noted that activated charcoal is made from any essentially carbonaceous materials. Tree bark, coal, cotton waste, palm kernel shell, and many agricultural by- products can be used to produce activated carbon and their ability to remove colours have been reported. According to the researchers, activated charcoal is used to remove compounds that cause objectionable taste, colour, and odour in water treatment while its industrial applications involve removal of toxic gases and pesticides and as well as purification of organic compounds. It is known that around 80 per cent of the world production of activated charcoal is used in aqueous-phase adsorption of both organic and inorganic compounds. The researchers also demonstrated the application of activated charcoal in the decolorization of enzyme-converted glucose syrup and in the purification of microbial enzymes. According to Wikipedia, while charcoal has been used since ancient times for poisonings, activated charcoal has been used since the 1900s. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, the most effective and safe medicines needed in a health system. Charcoal biscuits were sold in England starting in the early 19th century, originally as remedy to flatulence and stomach trouble. Tablets or capsules of activated carbon are used in many countries as an over-the-counter drug to treat diarrhoea, indigestion, and flatulence. There is some evidence of its effectiveness to prevent diarrhoea in cancer patients who have received irinotecan. It can interfere with the absorption of some medications, and lead to unreliable readings in medical tests such as the guaiac card test. Activated carbon is also used for bowel preparation by reducing intestinal gas content before abdominal radiography to visualize bile and pancreatic and renal stones. A type of charcoal biscuit has also been marketed as a pet care product. Incorrect application (example into the lungs) results in pulmonary aspiration, which can sometimes be fatal if immediate medical treatment is not initiated. The use of activated carbon is contraindicated when the ingested substance is an acid, an alkali, or a petroleum product. Active charcoal binds the poison and prevents its absorption by the gastrointestinal tract. In cases of suspected poisoning, medical personnel administer activated carbon on the scene or at a hospital's emergency department. In rare situations, it may also be used in a hemoperfusion system to remove toxins from the blood stream of poisoned patients. Activated carbon has become the treatment of choice for many poisonings, and other decontamination methods such as ipecac-induced emesis or stomach pumping is now used rarely. Medical-grade activated charcoal, usually produced from burned coconut shells and 'activated' by having steam forced through it (giving it a more porous structure and bigger surface area than normal charcoal), has for years been administered in hospital emergency departments to people who have swallowed poison or overdosed. Under a microscope, activated charcoal looks like a honeycomb with a massively porous structure that attracts and traps poisons, chemicals and gases. In 2015, British doctors and scientists developed a pioneering treatment that could help save the lives of hundreds of people with livers damaged by alcohol abuse and obesity. A team working at the Liver Failure Group at University College London (UCL) and the Royal Free Hospital in North London has invented a charcoal-like substance that soaks up deadly toxins that are released in liver disease. The revolutionary capsules absorb the toxins and then neutralise them before they are safely excreted from the body. Human trials are due to start early next year and it is hoped that it could become a treatment within a couple of years. Patients would take a daily diet of the capsules. The UCL and Royal Free research team believes the treatment could reverse liver disease, save the lives of patients, and prevent some needing a transplant. Liver disease is one of the top five causes of mortality. Charcoal also is used to relieve itching related to kidney dialysis treatment and to treat poisoning or drug overdose. Charcoal may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Nigerian researchers have also found that co-administration of Sulfadoxine-pyremathamine and single-dose activated charcoal reduces the chances of adverse reactions in cases of inadvertent repeat dose. The study was published in International Journal of Pharmacology. The researchers concluded: "The use and overuse of sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine is evident as it is available and cheap. Therefore, repeated prophylactic use might likely increase the body burden and easily lead to toxicity. Activated charcoal is expected to decrease the body burden by reducing absorption, particularly in a case of inadvertent overuse. This study has demonstrated that it can be a form or part of treatment strategy in preventing accumulation of sulfadoxine. Timely administration will prevent hospitalization and reduce fatality..." https://nigerianfora.com/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=13&rid=10 |

https://18694-presscdn.pagely.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_4617.jpg Pastor Frederick Ikyaan(left) with his wife: Admits the tithe was paid A man whose identity has been shielded by a local church in Makurdi, has shocked church members with a tithe offering of N42 million. Investigations by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi revealed that the money was paid into the UBA account of the NKST Church High Level Makurdi. Although the pastor of the church, Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, initially denied knowledge of the offering, a copy of the church's quarterly financial report, covering the months of January March, confirmed the payment of N42million tithe to the church. The report showed that the lodgement was the highest single offering from an individual for the quarter. The money was paid into the church's account in January. The breakdown of the church's financial report showed an income of N56.2 million and an expenditure of N33.7 million within the same time frame. The church's records also showed that out of the income, N44.6 million was generated from tithe offerings while a single person accounted for N42 million. Reacting to the financial report, the pastor said his initial denial was based on the allegations that the donor was an appointee of the Benue government. " I still stand by my words that the person that gave us that money is not an appointee of the state government. In fact, he does not even stay in Benue but is an indigene of the state." He said there was nothing wrong with the offering and insisted that the church had nothing to hide. Meanwhile, the tithe offering has stirred controversy in a state struggling to pay the salaries of workers. Public discussion centred on the legitimacy of the donors income, as a man who pays N42m to a church as tithe must have made an income of N420 million in the month that he paid. The NKST Church is an abbreviation for 'Non go Kristu U Sudan hen Tiv', meaning the Church of Christ Amongst the Tiv https://nigerianfora.com/index.php?t=msg&th=257&goto=294&rid=616#msg_294 |

Sequel to the international outcries that greeted recent maltreatment of Nigerians in the Diasporas, the Federal Government has successfully secured a relaxed and more humane visa application process for Nigerians, promising to reciprocate the same for Americans who wish to visit the country. In the newly secured visa application process, Nigerians may no longer need to tender extraneous documents, compared to what used to obtain. https://nigerianfora.com/index.php?t=msg&th=35&goto=50&rid=12#msg_50

olaboy33:Bravo. Moreover, the constitution is superior to any act of parliament. The earlier we glue this to our brains ,the better. |
While gas shortages, inadequate transmission, and losses pose critical bottlenecks, the main challenge for the power sector in Nigeria is the lack of liquidity (or weak commercial viability) of actors along the value chain – from gas-to-power production to power generation, transmission and distribution. Once there is sufficient flow of funds and a visible path to profitability, investments in improvements and expansion will alleviate losses as well as gas and transmission inadequacies. Insufficient power supply is perhaps the least understood yet the most widespread developmental challenge in Nigeria, affecting consumers across locations, sectors and socio-economic strata. It is widely believed that insufficient power supply in Nigeria is due to low generation capacity. It may surprise many that Nigeria utilizes only a third of its available generation capacity: while only 3500-5000 MW is typically operational, Nigeria’s installed generation capacity stands at 12,522 MW. You may ask, why would a country starved for power have so much idle capacity? It is a combination of gas supply shortages and inadequate transmission capacity to wheel the entire available capacity. Analogically, idle generation is like a car with a large engine capacity but short on fuel (gas supply) and with inadequate tires (transmission). Beyond the issue of idle generation, a staggering 40 percent of the energy generated is lost due to the Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses, well above the North American and European average of 8 percent. The key challenges are further discussed in more detail below: https://businessafricans..com.ng/p/entrepreneurship.html

obayaya:I may not know what oversight function means. But I am very sure it does not mean breaching the constitution ,by forcing or commanding a president to sack an acting head of EFCC,contrary to section 171. ![]() The Senate never investigated the DSS report. The presidency did,and wrote to the senate about its findings. The senate ignored the president's assurances. Now what does that imply? That the president does not know what he was investigating? The way some of you make one-sided comments, still baffles me. Provided the constitution did not outlaw re-presentation,why the fuss?If I were PMB, I would just let the sleepy dog lie.Let the senate sack Magu itself |
castrokins:This is a social forum.Responding to your comments is to inform the public, not necessarily because of you. The so called DSS report is a hog wash! The same presidency had investigated all the allegations contained therein and found them to be non-issue.I am taking you on an intellectual sojourn: If you were Buhari, which of those allegations that had been debunked by documentary evidence would make you sack some one you trust to deliver on your mandate. I personally, had digested the hog wash DSS report, the same being recycled many times, and I can authoritatively conclude that the agency should be overhauled and staffed with more professionally minded people. 1.How does Magu fail integrity test by living in a house rented by an agency of his employer(the cost is very irrelevant) 2.How would Magu become a liability ,by keeping official documents containing very sensitive investigative documents,at home,if he felt they could be stolen in the office? 3.How does flying a first class ticket in a personal capacity constitute a fail of integrity test, when no evidence was indicated that the monies so spent was a proceed of corruption. Does flying a first class imply living beyond his means? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...... For God's sake ,read the biography of MAGU. A chartered accountant and ACP,can not afford first class ticket? The DSS must be full of clowns! 4.How does flying in a volunteered Jet ,to save cost, constitute a fail of integrity test? More so when the donor as at then was not under any criminal investigation? Sometimes I ponder, was this really a security or vendetta report? No evidence of any criminal record,a major issue in any serious security report? I pause.. ![]() |
