TravelRe: Bird Eye View Of Nigerian Cities. by drake2(m): 10:21am On Jul 13, 2012
seankola: DEAR NAIRALANDERS, I ONLY DECIDED TO COMMENT BECAUSE OF THE COMMENTS I SAW HERE. ASIDE THE FACT THAT MOST OF THE RESPONSES CAN'T APPRECIATE WHAT A FELLOW HAS DONE BY MAKING THESE PICS AVAILABLE, THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE IN NIGERIA IS QUITE OBVIOUS. WHY DO WE CURSE CITIES WE'VE NEVER BEEN TO OR EVEN GO TRIBAL ON THIS OCCASSION?
I REALLY DOUBT IF WE ARE CAPABLE OF APPRECIATING LITTLE THINGS AND MAKE GREATER THINGS FROM THEM. THESE PICS ARE SUPPOSED TO SHOW DETAILED INFO OF THE POPULAR NIGERIAN CITIES SHOWING THEIR TOPOGRAPHIC FEATURED AND SPATIAL INFO. INSTEAD OF APPRECIATING THESE, WE THROW SHAMEFUL COMMENTS AND ARGUE LIKE WE RECEIVED NO FORM OF FORMAL EDUCATION. DOES ANY THINK ANYTHING CAN BE DONE TO CHANGE THESE CITIES? OUR PAST GENERATIONS HAVE GRADUALLY SETTLED IN CITIES AND HAVE PUT LAND TO ITS BEST USE (atleast to the best of their knowledge), SO LET'S JUST USE OUR BRAINZ WHEN COMMENTING. COMMENTS ARE MEANT TO ADD VALUE AND APPRECIATE NOT TO RIDICULE. A SPECIAL CASE IS THIS WHERE MOST HAVEN'T SEEN A BIRD's EYE VIEW BEFORE NOR EVEN KNOW WHAT IT MEANS...
I WILL LIKE TO ALSO ADD THAT MAYBE MOST OF THOSE THAT USE THE INTERNET SHOULD JUST LIMIT THEIR PARTICIPATION TO FACEBOOK. COS IF U PASS SUCH STUPID COMMENTS ON FB,WE ARE ANLE TO SEE THE CULPRIT'S FACE N PROFILE.
Would the above not have made a better reading if only u had taken time to do a proper formatting of ur response?. Why present everything in Capital? I was so tortured reading thru it.

In my usual magnanimity, I have decided to re-render it in a less harsher way. pls note particularly that u remain the original author and that nothing has been changed.

Many Thanks.

PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka Opposes UNILAG/MAU Renaming by drake2(m): 12:33pm On May 31, 2012
odumorun 1: I strongly disagree with Wole Soyinka on this.

The furore regarding the renaming of Unilag is elitist posturing of the worst kind, dressed up in the garb of democratic protestation. This has nothing to do with anger that the council of the university was not consulted. The university and its senate and governing council do not fund the school. The school is funded by the federal government from the federal purse representing millions of hardworking Nigerians most of whose kids will never enjoy the benfit of a university education let alone a prestigious one like Unilag.

The storm in a tea cup is another example of middle class Nigerians, particularly yoruba ones (the most snobbish and self regarding version and yes i am a Yoruba) refusing to be associated with a person largely revered by the poorer classes. The same happened when Uiversity of Ife was renamed in 1987 in honour of Obafemi Awolowo, when a few hundred students largely of middle class origin demonstrated their objection, while the poor people in the town, carpentars, shoe makers, tailors and others who benefited from awo's reforms celebrated.

This is all about a few priviledged and educated yoruba people wanting to retain what they see as an eleitis label placing majority of the population whom they secretly despise. If the school had been named after Barack Obama would they be protesting, even if it was done without consultation - Of course they wouldn't - they'll probably be fantasising about getting an easy visa ride in the American embassy.

Wole Soyinka is a radical and progressive Nigerian but his elitism is a well known flaw which is why he has never inspite of his undoubted courage been able to buod a mass following for his ideas.

Unilag is funded by the majority of the people of this country, not the students or their lecturers. Most ordiany Nigerians respect the sacrifices people like abiola made - they, not the spolit middle class kids kicking up a fuss in Unilag are the majority. The noisy minority in Unilag should be ignored. they will son go back to their Ipads

If they don't like the name when they receive their degrees let them rip them up. They don't own the school, the people do -i've not seen any demonstrations in mushin, shomolu, bere or sabongari against it.

If wole is not happy let him write a poem about his fury. He is a great man, but on this occasion he is wrong

When u get into trouble, especialy the ones u know nothing abt, just be calm and avoid arguments until u get to d station.
An equipment in d lab. went missing over d weekend in my office; monday morning, police told everyone to come to their station to make a statement.
It turned out to be a detention of everyone, i was so pissed, when asked to make a statement; i just wrote my name, age, sex, state of origin and my position in d office. The IPO was so infuriated and threatened to force statements out of me to which i told him no shit.
At d end of d day, office paid 2k for bail money per person and d asshole who spent d weekend with d equipment confessed to d theft after 2days in their cell.

MTN maybe the reason why other networks are working so hard to be better; since i tacitly abandoned their packet data for GLO, I have never regretted it. The competition is encouraged, what is expected of us is swift, continuous, swinging and wise decisions.
HealthRe: One Good Achievement As A Nigerian Don Discovers Cure For Diabetes by drake2(m): 12:59pm On Dec 16, 2011
Herbal formulations( containing bitter leaf in mixtures with other plant materials) using indigenous knowledge have always proven effective in the management of diabetics. Scientific curiosities only elucidated which of the molecular fractions provided such efficacy using Animal models. To me, the real discovery was done by the rural Professors ( Men and Women) who provide primary health care through the practices of Ethno-botany and Ethno-medicine.

Is it really a curse to be a Nigerian? Why are u guys bickering over ds? Its my humble suggestion dat d so many ethnic fragmentations will never allow 4 a meaningful dialogue towards development of naija. I noticed dat d illiterate Nigerians are more tolerant of one and another. I guess d more educated Nigerian u are, d more intolerant u become. Stop showcasing ds condemnable trend among d so called informed and travelled Nigerians. Shame on u all.
