OLADD: Friend, on a more serious note, Jonathan's earlier visit(s) would not have made any difference having delegated that responsibility to his subjects. Ministers and other govt functionaries had visited Borno, and most especially, Chibok at various times. Meanwhile, can you recollect what led to the war in Rwanda when thousands of Tutsis and Hutus were killed? The war broke out when a former govt functionary of that country visited a crisis-ridden area and he was killed in a plane crash. That was the genesis of Rwanda's genocide. If anything negative had happened to GEJ (Jesus forbid) when visiting Borno or any other insurgency prone area , what do you think the fate of Nigeria would be? Choosing a surprise visit to a war zone has always been adopted by leaders all over the world. We have seen that played out by Obama during his unscheduled and unanounced visits to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the rest. Are u saying in all these years, there hasn't been a window to stage a surprise visit before now? Obasanjo's visit to the state wasn't a surprise visit and I dear say of all the people that have visited there, he stands taller in rank than the others. Let's stop giving our leaders excuses when they mess up. That's why they keep taking us for granted |

More than anyone that has ruled this nation Nigeria, Mr. Goodluck Jonathan has had the best set of opportunities, time, resources, exposure and support to become the best President over the affairs of Nigeria; yet he squandered these things and made a mockery of everything invested and expected of him. Statements as this (and many more previous ones) makes me wonder if he's the real Jonathan Goodluck that went through all those stages before becoming the President. Maybe a cabal 'switched' him or did some kind of brain transplant for him. |

basit322: This question is directly to Dr Dre and other qatar guru I heard that qatar visa to naija has been re-open bt not yet start issuing it to people How true is it ?? It's quite true to an extent. The reason is that the visa has always been possible to get but very difficult and expensive. In most cases, it's a cancellation although the person won't know and it doesn't have an negative implication. It's just a process of changing the person on an approved visa instead of fresh approvals to companies. The few companies who have available slots obviously priced them higher. To the issue of opening the Nigerian visas, I have also heard the same thing here but I'm yet to start seeing it all over the place like it used to be like 1 - 2 years ago. Trust me, the people who make a living out of selling visas here are really paying the price as many of them have gone broke . There are however reasons why I believe it will start happening next year. A lot of projects have been approved to commence next year... I mean alot and companies are beginning to jostle for the few available hands for certain positions especially. This is because it wasn't only the Nigerian visa that was shut down. Indian visa and Philippines' visa (I think) were stopped and these countries constitute a large percentage of the labour force. Also, the much touted changes to migrant laws are being expected early next year so let's keep our fingers crossed |

Any time I hear people say Gen. Obasanjo is irrelevant in the scheme of things, I laugh. U can't take it from this man. He's a fox and cat rolled into one. He won't leave PDP because his network goes beyond the reach of the party. President Jonathan should have handled his relationship with this man better than he did IMO. These generals will be too tough for him to handle. The north will always go with their own. The military/para-military guys also will also go with their own. The brotherhood between them is usually too hard to crack by a 'bloody civilian'. Buhari falls into those two strong categories and although many of them fear what he might do to them, they are beginning to show that they'd rather have him than Jonathan trying to boss them around. President Jonathan wake up and smell the coffee pls |

ugsams: what are the affordable and reliable ways of receiving gifts from UK or US here in Dubai?
DHL and the likes are above my budget. From U.K, use Parcel Monkey. Their rates and charges will blow ur mind. The parcel will be picked up by them amd delivered via DHL most likely. U will however have to do the boxing, measurements, etc urself. Everything will be done online. They can deliver within 3-5 days. As for U.S, the cheapest option I know of is the post office. May take some days depending on many factors but I'm certain that parcels meant for these parts from the U.S goes to Dubai first. From there, they sort for other countries around. Give it about 2 weeks |

CFCfan: It's entirely plausible. Like I said some weeks ago, GEJ may even be covertly funding Atiku's campaign. With the sort of people that Jonathan has been cutting deals with recently, this can't be ruled. Atiku may be a mole in APC and OBJ may have even stressed it to Tinubu also. Jonathan having a pact with Atiku can even be the least shocking going by the list of the other people he has blatantly associated himself with recently |

He got good trends of Primary winning.
Sai Buharo! Thanks lol. I'd try my best not to be. I guess this is a chessgame between Atiku and Tinubu (by proxy). Tinubu will seriously hate to lose on his turf. @ Obiageli Thanks for these updates. The Northern elites have never like Buhari and I doubt if they ever will. They know he will block many things they feed fat on...but when the masses in the north love someone, they do almost to the point of death. U can't take that away from them. I bet PDP will be praying Atiku wins this to make it easier for Jonathan. If Buhari can get 12 million votes despite having a so called loud-mouthed Pastor as running mate, under a 'small' party; imagine how far he can go with support from a power block that has held the center to ransom since the inception of democracy. 2015 will be interesting |

Politics › Re: Obasanjo Finished Atiku In His Book (if True, Atiku's Political Career Is Over!) by DrDre1(m): 2:11pm On Dec 09, 2014 |
lioncoolst: Ladies and gentlemen!
I often visit Nairaland to read posts and comments without commenting myself because I like to learn from intelligent and sound minds. However, the saying goes that all it takes for evil to thrive is for few good men to say nothing; I am one of the few good ones, and I have chosen to react to some of the comments here on this thread.
I am a believer in the notion that as youths of Nigeria, we are no longer the leaders of tomorrow as we have been deceived to believe over time by people who have no interest in the future of Nigeria or its youths. Rather, we are the leaders of today! Now, how can one claim to be a leader when he does not possess a shred of wisdom or what is popularly known as "common sense"? Even though for all intent and purpose, that sense is not common as I have observed over the years. Here is a nice write up and an opportunity to learn from a man of experience, an elder statesman, a 2-time President of the FRN, a former BOT Chairman, a Party leader, a sage, a man known for his wisdom, cunny, sense, a master strategist, among other things. I am of the opinion that such a man should be understudied to know what he knows, and what makes past, present and future presidents of Nigeria to go to him - cap in hand - asking for his advise and seeking his blessings.
So, coming to this thread, I was looking forward to reading inspiring, motivating and sensible comments from some folks who appear to be in their prime. However, I was disappointed to be confronted with silly and witless comments like "..see pot calling kettle black", "do not mind that man, he is more corrupt than..." and so on and so forth.
Now, my question is "is this the issue at stake?" Is this the topic of discussion?" The answer is crystal - "No". So, why leave the substance and start chasing the shadows!!
Now, I know that it is not everybody that has the ability to reason before opening their mouths. Rather, some folks open their mouths first and do not even reason afterwards thereby showing that such folks have no substance in them, and this is quite unfortunate. Ignorance is bliss with these persons.
To whoever has ears to hear, kindly be informed that by reading books that were or are written by great and prominent people, you are given a window of opportunity to see what they have seen in their lives, a glimpse into their minds and probably what made them great and invincible, and also how their minds operated and still operates. In this instance, what he saw and experienced while he was in government as the number 1 citizen of this country, even though I still think the man is still in government.
There is an adage that says "what an elder sees while sitting, a child cannot see even if he climbs the tallest palm tree!" There is wisdom in this adage, I believe, and the adage is applicable in this instance. We, as youths of this country, need to sit down and learn wisdom, knowledge and understanding from elder who have experience, knowledge and cunny, for the betterment of self and the country. And you will agree with me that the man called OBJ is such a man to learn from, even though you do not like him. And no matter how much you dislike or hate him, you cannot do anything about it. So, rather than harboring bitterness and giving yourself headache over a man who does not know that you even exist, why don't you share from his wealth of knowledge and wisdom! For example, imagine these words:
“Timely information is a very important principle of war and also of politics. In politics, just as in war, what matters is not just your plan, but knowledge of your opponent’s plan. Knowing their plan, I had the choice of playing along with them or being firm, I chose the latter."
If you have read the book "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, you can relate to this. Anyway, as the saying goes, "a word is enough for the wise."
Thank you. This is the type of submission that strengthens my hope in Nairaland and Nigeria. This forum is a true reflection of the Nigerian society and when u see some comments, u just keep wondering how did we come to this point as a nation. |
