I believe ones environment and who he/she relates with has a great influence in our life. Corruption has inherently become the DNA of most people, they believe they can't be successful without being corrupt even when they are in a developed country. Its a very bad mindset.

I think it’s not that easy, a lot of patience and passion is required. It’s even harder when you work hard jobs like warehouse jobs or work two jobs to pay the bills. Imagine coming back home after a hard days work to study Cisco routing and switching or Unix or oracle db or even worst java! Also when people around you are all into health care and others...it’s hard to get motivated. Again a lot of blacks live in areas where the only role models are musicians and gangsters.

I’m an advocate of the Chinese and Indian models guys above me talked about. But most of us Nigerian immigrants are scared of our fellow people from Nigeria. Look at the Nigerian association I joined, the former chairman ran away with the association’s money, lol.

Here to share another experience. So, after doing strong head for months, I finally got an iPhone X from a guy who badly needed the money. Good deal for $400.

I was home fumbling with the phone o. Trying to fit it into a case. Before I hear anything, the buttons were pressed together, phone entered power mode/call sos, kia kia, it was dialing 911. I panicked and ended the call after one ring.

3 seconds later, I got a call lol. I was not gonna answer but my friend told me if I didn’t, they would assume I was in trouble, couldn’t speak, trace my location, and send cops to come and save me from whatever the issue is.

I hurriedly answered the call lol. “Hello, this is the Dallas police department, we just got a call from this number”. I told them it was a mistake, that I just got a new phone and the phone dialed 911, etc. They said ok, laughed, said goodbye and hung up.

Taxpayers’ money works. If I was genuinely in trouble, they would have arrived on time to save my big black ass. �����

Ok. Wished I could help. The only other option i think is maybe to have someone send the magazines to you. Like Nig4greatness said you can get a complete 1 yr subscription for $5-$20 and have someone ship it to you. Sometimes the hard copy magazines are more complete and easier to read than the online version. Check out those titles I referenced earlier. I will upload pics of what Im talking about.

I still read them online. Cost of hardcopy will be triple of what it will cost me for data subscription.

It depends on the Nigerian you no, although you might be correct to a certain point. Many Nigerian want to be a Nurse or work in the health care field, whereas some make there own choice to total different area. Education, HR, government, LE,private, engineering, Science and so on. You go into a field that suit you at least nobody is going to bear it with you either negative or positive the outcome.

That's the problem. Nigerians are intelligent but not smart. I'm really happy for the decision I made years back for not being a consumer but a producer. Imagine a country where certificate are more treasured by youths than knowledge.

No one does anything unique.It pains me to see a graduate of engineer who end up being a make artist or goes into music just because davido made it in the music industry. Every Nigerians dream is to work in oil company as if vocational skill is a curse or an insult.

Americans are taught to choose professions that they are passionate about irregardless of the pay. That is why you will see plenty of Americans who have these $ 20+ jobs and are content. Myself, I make good money as an xray tech but it is not my passion, that is why I am transitioning to business. I want to do not for profit work and I know that it will not pay alot, but that is my passion.
Also, none of us know it all, but I think that some of us have alot of life and career experiences that allow us to be knowledgeable on several subjects. So I think its ok to advise based on your own experiences.
Going forward, I think it will be best for everyone to assume that everyone else has had a different experience from the next person which doesn't make it not true. And one path doesnt fit all. So if one person made it one way, it doesnt mean that everyone else will make it or should even follow that same path. And finally fact check everything. There is just too much information and easily accessible to just blindly accept what someone is saying. Fact check me too, Im humble enough to admit when im wrong. The problem is Im never wrong.

You see opportunities abound in this country to those who knows what to do and where to find info and not some bunch claiming entitlement but looking for $20/hr a job all about.
When you spend 18hrs daily doing that routine job of yours,you are probably going to be deaf or blind to other important info that could change your life for better.you learn to earn,majority of Nigerians fall into this category.
Nigerians are intelligent but not smart and the smart ones rules the world.

I addition,I can bet you,those mags are so rich in info and you don't even need to download them.they are very easy and cheap to subscribe to.i get all business journals,wall str,automotive,travels,real Estate,money magazines and many others twice a month for just $20 quarterly. they are worth a million dollars in info.

I follow most startup magazine but another fact is that cost of data in Nigeria is expensive. I came across several data plans offered by xfinity, and I saw the gigabit speed subscription whereas in Nigeria, many ISP can't even provide internet speed of 10 megabyte per seconds. That shows how backward the country is.

Do you have a kindle or laptop? The reaspn why I ask is that magazines such as Inc, Entrepreneur s, Wall Street Journal have articles about start ups and raising capital all the time. There is a website or app called Zippio or Ziddio something like that will allow you to download magazines. I just started accessing these magazines from my library, a wealth of information. It might be a little harder for you to do in Nigeria but I dont think impossible. Tbh capital raising is extremely hard no matter the race but from what I have experienced, communities such as Indians and Chinese are extremely tight knit and resource from within their own communities.

Aside the Nigerian born, Chinedu Echeruo who sold his software hopstop to apple for $1B dollars, I have never heard of any Nigerian pushing boundaries in IT startup in US. What I see everyday are stories of Nigerians who broke record bagging multiple degrees with disctinctions not Nigerians solving real life problem. I am not saying bagging multiple degrees at once is not a good milestone but knowledge without applying it to solve problem is not really cool. I can say Nigerians abroad are intelligent but not smart (this is just my opinion) whereas the smart ones are doing cyber fraud in Nigeria. I have a dream and plan of being a tech startup founder in silicon valley someday.

If you read one of my previous post i talked about how the Indians are more structured in combining ideas in establishing tech companies, it must not be in silicon valley they are all over the 50 states.. Most Nigerians i have seen here from my experience hoard information cos they dont want you to be better than them, but the Indians have formed a formidable force in the IT sector, well organized people. They share information between themselves and with their combine effort and money they start up something brilliant with the initiator the CEO. You will not find one Indian person working in a warehouse or doing menial job except in a gas station which is owned by his brother or relation.

Mind you Indians are the richest immigrant in America, because of just one thing which is INFORMATION between themselves, so much so that they rarely borrow money in starting a tech company.

On the other hand Nigerians haven't gotten to that point yet because of our mentality, hoarding of information, you must not be better than me in america mentality. More so we are not organised like the Indians, and we have not created a niche for ourselves, we have a long way to go.. Right now some individuals who i have met are trying to create a niche in IT sector for Nigerians to compete with the Indians, its achievable but its gonna take a long time because of our attitude and mentality. I spoke on here about how my friend in IT security is trying to raise Nigerians to get into the field and i brought it up here but our Mentality will not let us see ahead.. I even mentioned how much he makes a year, i was labelled a liar. I am not giving up but will gladly train those who are willing to join the train to become a force to reckon with in the IT sector.

What are the challenges Nigerian immigrants face in starting a tech company in silicon valley and accessing funding from venture capitalist. How come there are less Nigerians in tech startup compared to Indians and Chinese immigrants.

But the EB-1(a) could be self petitioned unlike EB-1(b) and EB-1(c). I want to know the full terms considered before it is granted.

I just went on the uscis website and only found 5 categories for work. E b1 category is for a US company to sponsor you. They can be based in the US or outside the usa.

I have a question about the extraordinary talent visa (eb1a visa). What if one earns upto half a million dollar and employ American freelancers as workers. What is extension going to do you for you? You can not work or go to school on a b1 visa legally. You still have to show proof of funds when you try to convert and they may still deny the conversion on false intensions because you knew all knew all along that you wanted to immigrate to the US. Your friend relative does not have the power to give you legal stay.Better stay home, save money and try your luck with Canada ee program , your chances if coming to the US LEGALLY are slim to none. To come the US in this present time, its either through marriage ( fattest way), family petition( that can take years depending on the category), work( must find a company to sponsor you and may be stuck on work visa for years), extraordinary talent and business ( business must generate at least half of million dollars and employ at least certain amount of American workers).

More villages and towns are gradually becoming cities with industrial clusters, the likes of Ozobulu, Umuchu and the rest.

If we had the industrial capacity, infrastructure and building technology that China had, we will turn into the most developed region in African within 15 years.

Obviously I am not the chef, my baby can be quite territorial in the kitchen.

Starter
Shell on king prawns (he coated it in a mix of lemon, olive oil and parsley before whacking in the oven for about 10mins)

Salad (easy really, just chop whatever you veg you can eat raw. In this case tomato, cucumber, a drizzle of olive oil and whatever salad dressing you like)

Salmon--seafood always works best with olive oil and lemon. The salmon was left to rest in the mix before adding a sprinkle of black pepper)

Main.

Leg of lamb, cooked over a bed of vegetables. The juices in the lamb and the flavour from the all add to the great taste of the gravy which would made from it.

Roast potato--after chopping, boil in salted water for about 10mins, just enough to soften the outside a bit. The inside is still largely uncooked.

Drain in a colander, then toss until the outside is a bit fluffy. Melt butter in baking dish by placing it in the oven, once it's melted and reasonable hot, place the potato in it.

Leave in the oven till golden(obviously you keep turning it so the colour is even-ish all round). Once cooked, you have potato's that are crisp on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside.
