The Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ikeja today granted leave to Mr Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to inspect all polling documents and devices used in the conduct of the April 11 gubernatorial elections in the state. The three-man tribunal led by Justice Muhammad Sirajo, gave the order while ruling on a motion ex-parte filed by Agbaje’s counsel, Mr Clement Onwuenmunor. The tribunal also ordered the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide Certified True Copies of all polling documents including printed data in each polling units from the card reader machines. But the tribunal rejected Agbaje’s request to inspect the polling documents and devices used in the conduct of the March 28 Presidential Election in Lagos State. Sirajo noted that the tribunal was set up solely to hear and determine the petition relating to governorship election, adding that the tribunal does not have the jurisdiction to make such an order. The tribunal also rejected Agbaje’s Freedom of Information request asking the tribunal to order INEC to produce all polling documents, and card reader machines used for the governorship election. He said notices would be sent to parties for pre- hearing conference. It will be recalled that Agbaje lost the election to Mr Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who was declared winner by INEC. He had dragged both INEC and Ambode before the tribunal alleging some irregularities were observed during the election which contravened the provisions of INEC and approved guidelines for the election. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/05/05/tribunal-agbaje-to-inspect-lagos-election-material/

The governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have stated that they met with President-elect Muhammadu Buhari to discuss the precarious state of the Nigerian economy. The Chairman of the APC Governors forum and governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, who briefed reporters at the end of the meeting that held at the Defence House Abuja, said the country’s economy is in such bad shape that no state has been able to pay salaries of its workers. “As it stands today, most states of the federation have not been able to pay salaries, even the Federal Government has not been able to pay their April salary and that is worrisome,” he said. “By May /June, that will be three months and with the huge expectations of the people who voted for us into office, we are hoping that the president-elect will do all that is humanly possible to bring a bail out not only on the states, but the Federal Government as well.” Mr. Okorocha also said the APC governors have seen a reason to work together with Mr. Buhari in order to bring about the change that Nigerians are yearning for. “We also call on our brothers in the other parties to join us to build the Nigeria of our dreams.” The Imo governor also said they came as a group to formally congratulate Mr. Buhari for a “well deserved victory” in the presidential election which held on March 28. On the rumoured submission of ninisterial nominees to the President-elect, Mr. Okorocha simply remarked that it was “too early in the day” to do that. He said the names would be submitted as “soon as necessary”. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/182456-why-we-met-buhari-apc-governors.html |

Confusion reigned on Tuesday in the Niger State House of Assembly complex in Minna as lawmakers broke the keys used by the police to lock the gate into the Assembly in order to stop the legislators’ alleged threat to impeach the state Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu. The Police were said to have locked up the gate to the complex to foil the lawmakers bid to enter the chambers of the Assembly and stop the staff from going in or coming out of the House. The move by the police, it was learnt, was to prevent the members from forming a quorum to move for the impeachment of the governor. Some of the members of the Assembly, who were already in the chamber, stormed the gate in fury and ordered the most senior officer, guarding the gate, to open it for their colleagues, who were locked out. But the Police Officer, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, whose name could not be ascertained, said he was not with the keys of the gate. The lawmakers, after their effort to persuade the DSP to open the gate for those locked out failed to yield result, proceeded to break the padlock. “Are we prisoners? Did we beat anyone? Did we cause riot? Why should you lock us in? These people are trying to create trouble when there is no trouble,” some of the members queried. Our correspondent gathered that out of 27 members of the House, 21 were in the premises to begin the process of impeaching the Governor. It was reliably gathered also that members were complaining of non-payment of severance allowances and payment of half salary since February this year. The state government is alleged to be owing each member of the Assembly about N18m, though this figure could not be independently verified. http://www.punchng.com/news/lawmakers-break-niger-assembly-gate-to-remove-aliyu/?hootPostID=76d780c472a326f864afc31aa54f8046 |

By Henry Umoru ABUJA- CRISES rocking the present leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Monday took another twist with the National Working Committee, NWC of the party, saying that as the leadership of the party, it was pained that Governor Ayodele Fayose whom they helped to power was pushing for the sack of the present NWC. According to the PDP, the party and the present leadership helped governor Fayose to power, adding that paying back by asking for the resignation of the same leadership, was unfortunate and a total disappointment. The governor had called for the sack of the NWC at a meeting of the South-West Zone held in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday at the instance of the governor. At end of the South-West PDP leaders,it was resolved that both the National Secretary and the National Auditor,Professor Adewale Oladipo and Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju, who are members of the NWC from the Zone should resign immediately to pave way for the sack of the Party’s NWC . Answering questions from Journalists on the development, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh who expressed the disappointment of the NWC over Governor Fayose’s action, stressed that it was least expected of him having enjoyed the support of the same body to regain power in Ekiti state. Metuh said, ” the National Secretary of the Party,Professor Oladipo had already replied appropriately. But we feel pained by Governor Fayose’s action, this is a man that got total support from the NWC during the governorship primaries in Ekiti State. “At a stage, some stakeholders in the state wanted him to be excluded from partaking in the party primaries, but we in the NWC stood our ground that due process must be allowed, through our internal democracy, he eventually won the ticket and we mobilised funds for his election,we give glory to God, he won the election. “We in the NWC were even accused of taking N200m from Fayose to support him,the Governor is alive let him come out whether we took any money from him,we are pained that such a man we supported so much could come around and call for our sack because of the outcome of an election not due to our faults. “Professor Oladipo is the National Secretary of the Party while Alhaji Adeyanju remains the National Auditor and not State or Zonal officers that can just be chased out of office” as being done in the Zone.” Prof Oladipo had in a swift reaction to the position of the leaders dismissed the call for his resignation and that of the National Auditor of the Party, saying that those behind the Ekiti meeting were pursuing personal agenda http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/call-on-sack-of-nwc-muazu-others-berate-fayose/ |

NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL RECOMMENDS THE FOLLOWING MEASURES FOR DRIVERS. 1. Downshift immediately Putting the car in a lower gear allows the engine to slow the car, and may give you enough time to be able to safely pull over. Whether you're driving an automatic or a manual, try to downshift smoothly through the gears. If you downshift too quickly, you risk a skid. Do not shut off the car to stop it, as you'll lose your power steering, and do not put the car in neutral or you will lose the engine braking effect. 2. Try the emergency brake, but don't depend on it to stop you If you're driving a car with a good, strong emergency brake, go ahead and use it. In cars with manual transmissions, the emergency brake is often operated via a hand-activated lever located behind the shifter, while in many automatics you use a small pedal located on the far left of the driver. It helps to try your emergency brake out at slow speeds to see how much stopping power it really has. 3. Work your vehicle into the right lane as soon as you can Move toward the right shoulder of the road, or, if possible, toward an exit. If it is necessary to change lanes, do so smoothly and carefully, watching your mirrors and the traffic around you closely. 4. Stay off the gas pedal Perhaps this goes without saying, but do not touch the gas pedal. Your goal, right now, is to slow down, pull over and safely stop. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10152940504332017&id=141944577016&refid=17 |

Do you think of a leader as someone else with a more important title or more experience? Think again. True leaders have more than impressive job descriptions and company anniversaries. They have influence and contribute to something bigger, not just to the work but also to the team. You can show up like a leader, too. And when you do, the rest of your career will take care of itself. Here are 10 behaviors that can help make you a leader: 1. Speak up. Leaders, regardless of title, know their role—to share and be part of the conversation . They aren’t content to be bystanders. Decide upfront in any meeting or discussion that you have a role to play and participate. Think about how you can contribute, not if you’ll look good. 2. Have ideas to make things better. Leaders contribute to the greater good. Bring ideas to help make your work, team and organization better. And good ideas come from being informed and learning about much more than just your daily work. 3. Stop talking about other people. Nothing makes you look smaller faster than filling your conversations with everyone else’s weaknesses. I used to work with someone with a nonstop commentary on how everyone else was annoying, frustrating, uninformed or clueless, and so on. Most people who spend their energy in this way are trying to deflect from their own lack of confidence. It’s hard to have influence if criticism is your currency. 4. Show your brand of enthusiasm. This doesn’t mean you have to become a cheerleader or be someone you aren’t. Enthusiasm means confidence in your ideas, a positive outlook and valuing others. No one will show more enthusiasm for your ideas than you do. 5. Power up others’ ideas. When someone else gives a good idea, offer validation and expand on it. As an example, if your co-worker has a great recommendation for a new way of connecting with customers, then recommend how to get started with an experiment. 6. Constantly improve how you work. Always look for ways you can do your work better. Share ideas for even small improvements. Keep looking for how to increase your contribution—even if no one is asking you to do it. 7. Quit being a professional critic. Early in my career, I had a respected boss tell me that “being a critic isn’t hard and that no one earns respect from doing the easy lifting.” It’s not difficult to point out what’s wrong. Leaders have recommendations and answers. 8. Solve problems rather than self-promote. Keep your eye on the problem you want to solve or an opportunity to make your work or team better. Recommendations intended to make yourself look good or get promoted are pretty easy to spot. 9. Give credit to others. Appreciate others’ contributions. Openly thank people for a great recommendation that worked. Congratulate others for the success of their new project. This shows not only self-confidence, but it proves that you are more interested in the success of the team than just your own. 10. Promote yourself. Think as if you had the job that you want in the future. Know the issues you’d have to consider if you were in charge. This outlook helps you broaden your perspective and continue to grow. http://www.success.com/blog/10-ways-to-be-a-leader-even-when-you-arent-in-charge |
