Now the questions are;
Which one will perform longer and better with same abusive owners? Which one will perform longer and better with same good maintenance?
I'm not a fan of any, just to learn. With the right amount of abuse .. Any car can break down |

Forcing my ideas on people.. We can all agree to disagree . But you know for fact that Nigerians have this fetish love for corolla, it is almost unhealthy love for it .. Due to fact that most can't maintain cars. It is known fact . Am just trying to encourage people to think outside box and try other things.. Am sure if a study is done today about what countries has the largest number of used corolla in the world.. Nigeria will number 1 in Africa and at least top 5 in the world |

AK284: Dru23 l know you are notorious for been rigid but call it what you want,I will always trust my experience with Toyota, I think it was specially made for Nigerian roads, why do you think almost all Government establishment suddenly changed from peogout to Toyota from early 2000's till date, transporters nko, you think it's coincidence abi? people knows especially the middle class,I once use ford many years ago based on my experience then I think that vehicle is a sh*t ,no disrespect to anyone here or the company using ford, if give me ford now, I will immediately swap it for Toyota if need be add change on top. what you failed to understand is that if conditions are right who will not like to use lastest Benz but we should always get the best out of the less we have. Dru23 let me ask a question Given the chance to own 7Civic cars to owing 5 Toyota cars for fleet on uber which one will you chose? I know you answer is the former so I guess you don't underate or hate Toyota you're just a cold crude business man who is after profit nothing less. like I said earlier get more from less. I understand your point.. But to me personally Toyota cars are for people who can't maintain cars .. And for the situation on ground as ehailing is concern. I will pick civics over Toyota anytime or day.. Very easy to maintain as long as you don't abuse them. |

Prolly you don't maintain your cars properly. Toyota fits 3rd world citizens cos they lack maintenance culture. E.O.D. You shall live long my brother ..this is one of the reason I fear naija used cars or corolla.. The owners tend to neglect maintenance of the car .. In their mind na Toyota it does not need oil or regular maintenance.. Those cars get abused a lot |

I support oga dru23 on this Thank you my brother.. These Corolla fanatic people, just think that corolla na bullet proof .. Npala: It's really surprising to me how we compare Corolla to Civic for ehailing. I am not a mechanic and I know just basic things about cars but based on user experience, Corolla 2005 cannot be compared to Civic 2005 for uber and bolt business.
I bought a tokunbo 2005 honda civic and did the initial servicing with the recommended engine oil and ATF and set to the business with it. After like a month and half, the car starts having all sorts of issues and I eventually had to change the transmission and still battling with the car being too low to the ground and leg issues.
A month later, I sold the car for 40% off my purchase amount.
I bought Tokunbo Toyota Corolla 2005, used recommended oil and stuffs and set to work with it. November 2019 will be the 10th month i started with the Corolla and all I have done is just basic servicing and nothing more and I drive at least 4 days in a week.
If you are using Civic for personal use, I am very sure it is a very strong and good car, but drive it from morning to night, 5 times or more a week, for 3 months. It's not good enough.
I am not trying to shade dru23 but this is my experience driving both cars. 100% user experience. Well maybe the one you bought had issues already.. My 05 civic tokunbo was rusted and I was in a rush to buy it. I bought via coparts .. I had no experience buying cars at the time .. When the car arrived Lagos my mechanic looked at it . And he complain that the car has too much rust and it would not last long. We had to change the gasket of the car. And a few months later it had transmission issues. We had to get a new transmission.. But overall the car did well and handle itself well ...buying from auction or lack of experience is like a double edge sword.. So my other civics I bought some I bought via auction and others via private sale.. Those civics were in good condition and my mechanic was impressed.. I always say if you can get a good one ,they are the best cars for ehailing.. I plan to add more to my fleet and have become more selective when buying the civic. The civics to me are low maintenance and the shocks are very strong. With the Nigerian bad roads ,I only replace one shock from the civic..this is my experince .. Again I plan to add more civics to my fleet.. Conclusion: whether you buying Corolla or any other cars. Be selective and make sure you know what you are buying....

The valvoline was a special order and valvoline is not big in the market like Mobil 1 . I do so many special request example is a/c compressor for 2010 Camry.. donshegzy: Hello house,
I have a 2010 Camry SE v4. My mechanic uses the Total Quartz 5000 SL (20W-50) oil. Is it a good oil?
Also, I currently use a 225/50R17 tire and I’m looking to change it to a bigger size so the vehicle doesn’t appear too low (I don’t want to raise it as suggested by mechanic). Please recommend tire sizes or should I stick to this one?Thank you. My brother that oil 20w50 is a death sentence for your engine.. Depending how long you been using the oil and how frequently you change the oil .. I will honestly tell you it is not worth it to change to manufacture reccomdation. I tell people to read and read owners manual at all times. Better yet read the oil cap of the engine. Below is the owners manual directly from Toyota .. This you can download on line.. Whatever be the case good luck bro. The correct oil is 0w20 and if 0w20 is not available you can use 5w20 until the next oil change and than switch back to 0w20. I sell these oils and filter all from the USA .. I got a request for Toyota oil filter and I might have left over around November... but have a good mechanic look at the engine . So to determine if the 20w50 has caused any damage to your car. . But to find good mechanic is anothet struggle on its own..

easysunny: Hello house, Should I change my engine oil to the recommended oil - 5w20 now? I bought the car, Honda pilot and took it to one of the mobile filling station at.Lagos to service the engine as indicated on the dashboard. That was on August this year. There they convinced me to use mobile 1000 20w-50 even when I told them that it is 5w20 that is written on the engine cover. They said 5w20 is for American weather but in Nigeria this is what everyone is using expect I want to waste my money. And as a novice, I believed them and they used the 20w50 to service it. But since i started following this forum, I've been reading that it's dangerous to go against the recommended oil. That if one want to have healthy engine, he/she should maintain the car recommended oil. My question is: 1. Should I flush out the 20w50 oil that is currently in the engine now and change to the 5w20 as recommended? Or wait during the next service to change it? Any danger leaving it as it is now? 2. Where can I get the original 5w20 oil in Lagos and do the services? Also what's the current price? What I sensed later about that mobile filling station is that they didn't have the 5w20 in stock and so they convinced me to use the alternative instead. Pls I need genuine advice and recommendation. Thanks My brother don't mind them and always read the owners manual.. 5w20 is good for all weather.. I spoke on this topic months ago.. .. |

sooperrescue: Hmmm. A lot of us are not aware of the dangers of the 20w50. People are still producing the oil and so the problem continues. We will get there when the mechanics are determined to make our cars to last longer on the road. But 90 percent of the blame goes to the owners of the cars. They buy any oil just to save costs and in the end blame their smartness on us. How can someone allow his mechanic to use xhp 20w50 on his 2013 range rover evoque? This is the sad reality that we are facing and we need to do something about the ignorance among the people who patronize the oil. Me I just tired o .. The real winners are engine sellers in ladipo. |
Car Talk › Re: Total, Forte, Conoil, oando, Mobil1 And MRS Synthetics Oils by dru23(m): 8:26pm On Oct 25, 2019 |
sooperrescue: What is the verdict on our Nigerian made engine oils? Should we boycott the oil for 3 months so that they will adjust and sell quality engine oil to us that are suitable for the cars that we drive. If we are importing 2.5t Naira of used cars, the engine oil for these vehicles should be available. Thanks Dru for your efforts and also Radautoworks. Without you guys, and other guys like autotrader2 and Gazzzuz, there would have been no car that will last 2 years in the country. Total and Oando should be commended too for migrating from 5w40 to 5w30 but we encourage them to give us 5w30 gasoline engine oil only and 5w20 and 0w20. It is what the industry needs and not what they want us to use. The era of ignoring the motorist is over. The choice is up to Nigerians customers, it is up to them to follower owners manual at all times , it is up to them to seek quality oil whether I tell them or you tell them.. I can't force anybody... but what I will tell you is that I lost faith long time on Nigerian goods been sold on the market.... I import all my stuff from the USA ,and if the customers want to buy from me ,it is up to them .. And if they want to continue using 20w50 or any Nigerian made engine oil . They should continue doing so , they are in return helping the ladipo guys bring in more engine .. If people are taking care of their engine, the engine seller in the market will not see engine to sell.. So engine seller need market to survive o ...but for me personally I will rather import all my stuff ,than risk buying fake or substandard product from the market... As a matter of fact the engine oil I sell , I sell at a discount price that the profit is not worth it for me anymore . So eventually I will stop selling and keep them for uber cars once I increase my fleet... how many times do I come and complain of engine issue or car issue on the forum? Biko I can't kill myself and save everybody . life is too short. |

easysunny: Pls house, where can I get original 5w20 engine oil. That's the recommended oil for my Honda pilot 2008. I just bought it toks few months ago. Unfortunately, I went to service the engine to one mobile filling station in Lagos and they convinced me to use mobile 20w50 against the recommended oil ie 5w20. That was on August this year. So the oil that's in the engine currently is 20w50. I'm afraid it may damage the engine based what I have read. So, I want to revert to 5w20. Should go ahead and change it now or wait till next service? Pls where can I get original 5w20 oil and do the service? How much is the price? You still have time to change to manufacture reccomdation.. .. 20w50 is the worse oil you can use on any car .. I sell USA import Mobil 1 and 5w20 is available

Berachahrent: Surprised.....
For example, are you saying for Bridgestone tyre,NGK plugs and others being produced in USA are different from the ones being manufactured in Thailand, Japan etc.
I know there are European and American specs but be informed that some products are products to meeting both American and European specs.
Secondly, Becareful of giving out lube because of brand name and place of production, ensure that what you are offering is approved by the OEMS.
Inasmuch as it meets the car manufacturer standard or specifications, forget about what those road side mechanics are saying about region/country.
For clarity, go to CARMAX autocare-ikeja, Truckmaster-ikeja ,AUTONATION-ajah(to mention few for Ads sake) you will see VALVOLINE ALL CLIMATE being used and no single error has been reported over the years Unfortunately I will not be going to those places you mentioned. I have nothing against them, have never used them ,so I can't say nothing good or bad about them .. That been said. All my engine oil are from the USA , so customers are rest assured that they are getting quality goods at good prices.. I have nothing against you or what you are selling ... due to bad experience I avoid buying things in Nigeria.. If I can import it ,I will and funny enough I do import my own bottle water Poland springs .. But I know that is a bit extreme.. I just lost faith in goods sold in the market, too many fake . But you cant blame the sellers ,Nigerians want quality at low quality price.. I have no issue with what you are selling... |
