It is possible now ,you know the saying goes a fool is born every second.. We have dumb owners and dumb drivers , but my guess is that there are more dumb owners than drivers...

My neighbor have been disturbing me since he resigned from his job for a car he called me one day and said someone promised to give him a car. I thought it was a joke until he blocked me one day and came out of the car I saw it was him, he told me they agreed he should go and register the car and work that weekend and then start paying from the new week and I asked him he said the told him to be doing 30k per week.
Thunder never strike the new owner yet.. When the new driver show him pepper ,he go know now ...

Honestly I don't see how collecting deposit makes one a smart investor, it's kinda unfair asking a driver who probably have been idle for some time pay for deposit.
It's only on nairaland you will see people asking for that, and they also insist on the 35k weekly remittance. But people out there get cars 30k and even below , just saying my mind sha.

How many car owners will allow a strange mechanic drop oil pan of his vehicle?
A mechanic that you trust... if you are going to spend millions of naira on a car ,don't u think it is worth to take a mechanic to check it out ? Just sit down there my brother, a lot of people are aware about sludges in their engine...

Same way you will allow a strange person to check the vin number of a car before buying... it is your money and u have the rite to know what u are buying

Thank you sir
Public announcement : I just received a big thumbs up from one of you guys . A young man from these forum, email me and ask me to give him an advice on naija used cars .. He wanted to know the things he should look for when buying naija used cars . I told him am not a big fan of Nigerian used cars ..but I stated to him am not a car expert at all, but from experience that I have learned from uber business.. I told him first thing he should check is for any sludge in a car.. If there is any sludge in the engine. It's a sign to run for dear life from the car ..
He is thanking me today, he said that all the naija used cars he checked out ,they all had sludge and because of my advice he was able to save himself a lot of headache and money ... please people when buying a car check for any abuse of sludge ,get a mechanic to go with you, fine you might pay the mechanic 5k naira, to come along with you... ask the mechanic to check for sludge by dropping the oil pan to see if there is any sign of sludge.. And also check to see if the car is on a coolant diet or water diet .. If you observe the radiator is on a water diet. Please leave that car alone... A word is enough for the wise.. Thank you all

Dru23, that was a general statement and i don't remember mentioning you. I don't know what you specifically do. What i do know is that some people on here (including you according to falz) buy from Wal-Mart et al on sale. What they then do is take it to shippers who put them inside vehicles or other containers that are classified as household items and either avoid or minimize the tax completely. Oil is considered hazmat and taxed a lot higher than parts, even containerized. With air freight, it's at $7/lb.

This option was offered to us for oil, gas struts, batteries and other hazmat products, however when you bring things by container, it's not as easy. Plus, when you spend as much as we have, you don't risk your entire business on trying to cut corners. Our actual costs for the oil are most likely the same or even lower than yours. Our methods and overhead however are not. You specialize in oil, we do not. It is simply one item in our thousands of lines.

It's there anything untrue in what I've said? And if it doesn't apply to you (and again, i never said it did), move on.

Now if you want to drag this out, we can circumvent all that and simply post both our manufacturer/distributor order invoices right here.
My brother there is no fight at all ... the sky is big enough for everybody.. I just want people to be aware of the oil they use in their cars ...am here to give the customers options in terms of engine oil ... so that they hard working people will not be spending thousands of thousands of naira at the mechanic, if they can just do the basic maintenance on their cars ..
And to Frank with you, I no nothing about cars, engine oil. Coolant etc until I starting doing uber... my cars were affected by sludge.. And I spend money to clean out the sludge on two cars and I posted it on nairaland for people to learn and see.. And I realised that most of the oil in Nigeria are either fake or sub standard.. And cars owners including me ,were very ignorant to the importance of good engine oil ..and that how I started doing research on engine oil .. My options at that time was USA spec castrol oil 5quarts.. And USA spec Mobil oil ...and importation of those oils started.. After market survey and trial some liked castrol and most prefer Mobil 1 than castrol... final research was that most people now shifted towards extended performance Mobil 1 ...so my brother the sky is big enough .let us work together to provide the customers good quality oil at a affordable price ...as we are helping them by not having them spending thousands of thousands of naira at the mechanic.. They can also help us by buying from us at an affordable price ..we all win at the same time.... For those that are buying 3k naira oil ,hopefully one day after kazzem the mechanic has set their cars back to factory settings of 1935, maybe they will pay attention to the cars ...we are know that in Nigeria a car is more of a necessity and comfort than of a luxury .... So hopefully everybody can contribute in one form or shape to this business.. Also people coolant is very important for your car too ...to avoid been best friends to kazzem and Co, use coolant instead of water on your radatior... well u will say it is expensive, that water will do just fine ..water is cheaper, but ignorance is even more deadly... chose wisely.

As a customer i will buy the cheaper oil from the small champ(Because i like cheap things grin) but i also will understand that the other seller paid for logistics, clearing etc which the small champ didn't.

This one we are way more expensive https://www.nairaland.com/4606605/mobil1-5w30-advance-full-synthetic

Our price on this http://weblink.carquest.com/acl/?mfgName=MOB&partNumber=14977 is N25,733 NOT double https://www.nairaland.com/4477823/us-spec-5-qt-mobil we are only N2,700 more than AutoElectNG

I could go on and on.... No 6-10day delivery I explained that and told you it was intentional

What buy from you if in your words you will source for it between 6-10 days and twice the price? I didn't say you should! I said there were better prices out there and recommended some!

How do you ensure product quality if you don't have a particular source? Dru23 shops from Walmart, I have seen the stickers on his product before, same with Autoelectng, how do you know the products you are sourcing within nigeria are quality products. Not sure where you got this impression... Please look up Carquest and Advance Auto parts. That's why the other guys can sell cheaper. Wait for a Walmart sale or liquidation, buy cheap, don't pay duty and boom!
So basically you go to mobil directly be dat now ...cough, cough and cough... well me too I go directly to the manufacture.. Coughs and coughs .... So dru23 buys cheap, pays no duty ..boom and sells cheap ok ok people..... Please just wait for.." "The calm before the storm " and you go know if I pay duties or not ....just wait please,

Thanks everyone that honoured this thread.

I eventually replaced the engine. I instructed that all other peripherals like Alternator, Fuel Injector, Spark Plugs, AC Condenser etc be left in-situ in my car. So the engine was coupled in, It took a whole day to get the job done. But it was eventually done. When we started the car it started well at the first attempt. It has not given any issues since then. And the acceleration has been perfect. My only uncertainty is that I don't know how many miles have gone on the new engine. I tried looking for the engine 'casting/block' number but didn't see it. It's just the serial number that was clearly visible.

But since the engine is working well, I will just ensure timely oil change to keep the engine in a premium working condition. I'm still looking at where I can get Mobil 1 5w-20 here in Lagos, but if I don't get I guess I'll stick with semi-synthetics with 30% synthetic blend for now.
I do sell USA spec Mobil oil 5quarts and I only have my last one 5w30 for 15500k .. I will be bringing more in at the end of the month.. For more information email at dru23@hotmail.com and I will give u my contacts in Lagos .

The sky above is BIG
..

It is a welcome development.. Welcome to the USA spec Mobil oil gang.. It is not an easy thing to import those oils .. But with more public awareness people are starting to embrace the imported oil ...and the importance of good oil will do your car and it slow down the amount of time your cars goes into mechanic for engine related issues and also helps avoid buying tokunbo engine at ladipo... but I don't think engine importers will be happy o. grin and yes the sky is BIG

You are very correct.
..

I want to make a public apology to all the uber drivers out there.. For the simple fact that I critize them a lot without taking other things into affect. ...
Another issue that makes ehailing very challenging is managers. Bad managers are sometimes worse than drivers ..those are the things that I fail to understand and am learning now.. Not all the problems comes from drivers... I will highlight the following experience.

1. A manager tells he wants to use his own mechanic to fix the cars... caution and ask questions the reason. In this case the manager will finds ways to increase the price of labour, parts or excuse to steal from you.

2. A manager is always complaining that drivers don't pay ..please collect all the phone numbers of any drivers that a manager hires ..very important, so that you can verify the story they are telling u.

3. A manager always wants to buy the parts.. Please it is better to buy your own parts and give it to the manager.. Have a few numbers of parts dealers so that you can verify pricing.
4. A manager that is a womaniser .. Anybody that manages for you and the person is married.. And the man can't take care of his household.. Knw that whatever money is taking from you will need extra fund for his called extravagant lifestyle..

5. If so called manager does not have his own personal car. That is red flag o .. How can you call yourself a manager and you don't have a car.. How do you monitor your drivers? Chances are he will look for ways to save money to buy a car under your expenses...

6.. Oil change and minors things.. This is a great revenue for managers to steal from you.. Do you oil change yourself or have it monitor. You don't even know the quality of oil they are using o.

5. Before you hire any manager for your cars.. Ask for reference o ,bad drivers and managers are like white on rice ..please feel free to contribute

Who are the OUR? if I'm doing a business and I can't recover my capital in 6months or a year, then it doesn't worth it. You just want to impress people here you are bereft of biz ideas. If I'm selling 800pieces (trying to push it to 1000pieces before December) of slice bread per week at N240 each...make your calculation. I have 5 staffs, the highest earn 60k per month, 3 earn 35k and 2 earn 30k per month. I run my gen 4 to 5hours per day. Pls do your calculation.

Gazzuzz ,

With your 2million, travel to Ondo state, buy 35logs at 50k per log. Transport it to shagamu with 150k, load it in a container, forwarding fee is 1,100,000. A container is sold at $12,000.
Buy palm oil from ondo, and sell in that big market close to ketu. There are women that buy 500 25litres keg every 2weeks.

There's a way guys construct "coldroom" now, let them construct for you. It is better than an irregular 35k with repairs per week....

Etc....

Your oil sales biz and your car repair workshop is giving you the cashflow you need as a man/husband/father. What can 35k even do in a week?? Is that what you guys call a cash flow?? You are not just informed!

(Added this)
Gazzuzz , let your wife sell pet drinks in whole sale. 2m will give her lots of bigcola products (that's the new drink for the masses), then she can add cocacola n Pepsi products...

Look around you, Haruna is densely populated. What's giving Nigeria relevance in the market place today is her population.
Ok I understand your point... but u said your highest salary earner earns something like 60k a month ..what can that do for a person.. Uber is a tough business no doubt ...but most uber driver will make that 60k your highest earner makes in a week, if the uber owns the car easily... but if he does not own the car, am sure very sure he will take home more than 60k a month..
My experience with uber business, personal experience is that a lot of the drivers are greedy, not all of them ..and also managing coy or manager themselves are greedy or very conning ,from personal experience.. Now the smart drivers that were patient enough and experience enough ,were able to save enough money, saw a good deal and bought themselves a good car ..trust me from experience, u can see a good deal or lucky deal in terms of buying a good car ..I even offered to help person buy a car 04 civic landing cost for 1m tokunbo.. So at the end of it all , " in the mist of chaous, there is always an opportunity". It is up to you to make the most of that opportunity... all from personal experience... there is no need for me to explain how I gave a person great opportunity and the person blew... no need to go into details .. My point is that a lot of uber drivers can easily make more than your highest earner.. And aslo those slaves ,sorry I meant labourers working for you in the hot sun.. What is their goal in the nxt five years? Do they want to continue making bread for you for ever ? Or do they want to be carrying your pure water up and down for the nxt five years ? Uber drivers also do have the opportunity to network on their job o ...I am not too sure about your bread seller or pure water seller...
