Amazing Grace Amazing grace! how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch; like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed! The Lord hath promised good to me, His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures. When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we first begun. Source: http://www.hymnal.net/en/hymn.php/h/313#ixzz2dIXBSbI6 |
I minister at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, to people who are psychologically challenged. Others on my team reach out to other sections of the hospital. I have done this for over six years now. It is a ministry I believe God led me into and it is very rewarding. The only challenge I face is that patients I reach out to do not "get" what I am saying that easily bc of their health challenge but once in a while I lead someone to Christ and it pays for all the effort. So, why did you ask? Are in hospital ministry too? |

fyneboi79: two weeks ago I got ministered τ̲̅ȍ by a pastor τ̲̅ȍ give my life τ̲̅ȍ Christ as heaven and earth is real.I listened but was still sceptical about giving my life τ̲̅ȍ christ. That same period I met this lady I had been fornicating with some three years back and we exchanged numbers and began chatting again on whatsapp.she has money now, real money and she even promised τ̲̅ȍ give me all I wanted as long as I remained hers for good.Something just didn't seem right though.then last week I had a dream where I saw people jumping down from a ten storey building but when Į̸̸̨ƭ got τ̲̅ȍ my turn I refused τ̲̅ȍ jump.I told a pastor dis dream and he interpreted Į̸̸̨ƭ as a commitment I'm about τ̲̅ȍ make which may claim my chance of salvation.I put things together and knew immediately what Į̸̸̨ƭ was.So I told the lady I was •̸№t interested in what she had τ̲̅ȍ offer and I would rather follow Jesus Christ at this point in my life and then I went back τ̲̅ȍ the pastor and said my acceptance prayers and let go every atom of bitterness against my fellow man.We praise God for you. But please find a proper fellowship to join for discipleship unto maturity. And please visit our convention thread below on my signature. |
shdemidemi: Mr man, why don't you open your bible to check for yourself.Again, you make my day with those words. debosky:I've lived in this nation for over 35 years. I have been a Christian for more than 15 years; next to my career, religion is my greatest passion and the church, my major focus. Born a Catholic, attended pentecostal and orthodox denominations, and with a peculiar insight into church administrations, I know what I am talking about. It does not take a rocket scientist to know these things; it is just interest. Just sit by your television on a typical Sunday or listen to the jingles on radio or read the church banners all around town, and you will know what most of our churches are pre-occupied with. If it is not holiness, it is prosperity. Clearly if this is true then there are deficiencies, but it may not be as you perceive it to be.I await a contrary view. If you have it, supply it. If, as you say, materialism is the church's biggest flaw, one would have expected the pastor to be accused of embezzlement, not sexual immorality. In general, sexual immorality thrives in an atmosphere of permissiveness - one in which anything goes. I'm not convinced you've presented any evidence of this, although it may exist. It is what we see that we speak about. Ese Walter made her position known to the public space. A couple of other ladies came out and corroborated this position. If our young girls are so jobless and hate filled, having nothing else to do with their time, why do we not have similar charges against other Pastors in the nation? And the alleged in this matter has worsened the situation by claiming a divine mandate to remain silent. This is a wise move though because for him to deny or accept the charges will still lead to his indictment one way or the other. Every one of those girls say they have evidences that can be supplied if he dares deny. Immorality is only the fruit of an overly materialistic gospel and world view: they are two sides of the same coin. I do not need to present anymore evidence beyond the ones we see all around us, except we also want to play the ostrich. The pastor that sees nothing wrong with cruising young, innocent girls will have no qualms embezzling church funds. Embezzlement is only another scandal yet to make headlines. |
DrummaBoy: In this season of testimonies especially about what the grace of God has done in our lives. I wish to relate how the reality of the words in the above song by Don Moen came to me. I had been a few months old in the Lord and was basking in this wonderful grace of a life God had given me. This evening I came under a strong temptation. It is what some will call a little sin but it was real all the same. I fell to it; I sinned. Afterwards, I did some soul searching and I realized I had wronged God. So I asked God for forgiveness. But the guilt would not go. There was I reeling under the weight of this guilt... and then somehow, someone had been playing the music of Don Moen and the above song was the last track on the tape. I think God was just merciful to me and made me to hear the words of the song. I listened, especially to the part enlarged above Be still my child, I know your ways And I will guide for my Name sake Plunge in the rivers of my grace Rest in the arms of my embrace I understood I had been forgiven. I understood that I will sin again but that His blood will speak yet again. I understood that though I could be a recalcitrant child, I remain His child all the same. I understood the grace of God beyond what words can describe here. Maybe that is why I am so passionate about the gospel of grace. Every man that I know that is also, had had a similar brush with sin. Luther's discovery of Justification by Faith stemmed from his own struggle against sin. He told his no. 1 assistant Phillip Melachtony "sin lustly, that grace might abound". He was saying in effect until you know the feeling of having done wrong and finding God accept you in spite of, you will not be enjoying the abundance of the grace He has made available against sin. That is why also, I am very careful when preaching the sanctification message: we must never give the impression that godliness is something that comes from sheer will and effort - it is the outworking of the Spirit of grace in us. God dealt a lasting blow to guilt in my life that night and so now I know what it is to approach the throne of grace to find help and mercy in times when I need it. I trust that this convention shall espouse more on doctrines like this one. |
Tgirl4real: I support it100%.Its been a while your post cracked me up but this one did it. Lolz! |
I still believe so much in a teaching minister. Jesus' words in the mouth of His servants are spirit and life. When a Christian sits under the ministration of a holy man of God, whose words espouse the grace of God as shown forth in the cross of Jesus, that Christian will not struggle to live a holy life. The words themselves spoken into his spirit become flesh and the grace to live as God will have him to will come easily. Maybe that is the reason why the bible says ministers will be judged more strictly. Like Paul said: a minister will save both himself and his listeners by the messages he preaches. I do not agree with many of the things the Deeper Life Church teach but one thing you cannot take away from that assembly is the fact that they have a teaching minister on ground. And to the extent to which he understand it, he has remained faithful to the preached word both in life and ministry. It shows in the lifestyle of his church members. Now, unfortunately, there are a number of them who can be downright cantankerous, bitter and self righteous, but having lived in their community during my service year, I can say beyond any shadow of a doubt that I finds in that Christian community the highest number of people who one can say bear a genuine witness to the faith in Christ. So, it is good when we encourage ourselves towards godliness and to living lives that is spurred on by the Spirit of God, but a man cannot give what he doesn't have. Godliness itself is the outworking of the grace of God in the heart of the believer. If God doesn't help us, David's downfall will be a mere child's play. But woe betides a congregation that has a graceless Pastor - who all he dishes out Sunday after Sunday is a gospel on how to make it; how to become gods and succeed in life; how must be motivated in the face of life challenges; and of course, how to sow seeds of tithes, offering, firstfruits and prophet offerings, to become rich. When the devil comes, he will not only floor the members, he will make mince meat of the minister himself. And all that will be left will be someone using the garment of a departed glory to cover his shame. |
Tgirl4real: In as much as this thread is not about COZA, I would like to ask what tithe got to do with this @ Drummaboy.I didn't call them two (not too) extremes, I said and I quote: Drummaboy:I called them false doctrines. Of course the other extreme of a law abiding gospel (not a lawfull gospel) is a lawlessness one and that church is equally guilty of that; but I tried to spotlight what I believe is the biggest challenge with our churches. For COZA it has got to be materialism and nothing fuels it more than the tithe. I certainly was not discussing tithe; when I do... I really do. |
Tgirl4real: Why on earth should I be punished for things the devil made me do?When we discussed COZA in the office, a colleague said that the reason he fell was because he created a higher platform for himself and made himself some kind of demi god that people saw as perfect. He said that this is the problem with our ministers. They should be real and tell everyone they have weaknesses too. I both agreed and disagreed with him. Agreed: because it is true; disagreed bc the problem is more far reaching than the simplistic analyses my friend supplied. When the Christian is saved, his warfare with the devil, the world and the flesh has just begun. The believer has ample arsenal to wage this war and they include the truth of the gospel: a Sure foundation of what Christ has done for us. A lively hope he can look forward to: a heaven he can rejoice over; a Holy Spirit to help and who is also a guarantee of what God will give him. He also has the arsenal of prayer and the word of God. It is with the latter that many Christians fail. When Jesus was tempted he wielded the word. When believers are tempted how much word do we have to wield? The matter is not so much in how much bible you read but how much you have been taught and how much you have as a settled conviction in the heart. It is what you have been taught that leads you to grasp the truth of what you read in scriptures. Remember Cornelius and Phillip; until phillip opened the scriptures to that man, he would never had understood what he readeth. We need Pastors that can rightly divide the word of truth. I have said it before and I will say it again, the biggest need of the church today, is the need for TEACHERS. God's people need to be taught so they may have grace in heart and inner strength to overcome the wiles of the devil. When the believer is properly taught, properly fed as a sheep(remember how Jesus drummed the matter of feeding the flock into Peter following his Resurrection?), he has ample strength to overcome satan including the temptations that will come his way. Now inching closer to COZA: The biggest challenge facing the church in our nation is that we are bedeviled by two false doctrines: the holiness doctrine that leads to legalism and confusing grace with works; and the materialistic one that teaches money, money and money - and that is fueled by the false teaching on tithe. It is the latter the COZA chap is guilty of. In other words, money has arrived and all the possible guard against sin, satan and the flesh has been let down. The pastor does not feed on the word to build himself up, neither does he feed the flock. The Pastor knows little, the flock know nothing. The result is the catastrophe that we have as a case in point in Pastor Biodun. COZA is not the doing of the devil; it is the doing of a foolish and ignorant man. And if he doesn't own up, repent and retrace his steps, his end shall be sure destruction! |
shdemidemi: Madam, that scripture ends at 'There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus' in the original manuscript and most translations end it as that. There are a lot of people who claim to be Christians, and I'm not saying they're not. But they can't buy this. They say there is no such thing as this kind of security. You've got to work and you've got to strive and you have to be careful or you're going to lose it.Why do I agree with you always? 100% veritable! |
TESTIMONIES We would be looking forward to testimonies from people who will come on the convention thread telling of the working of the grace of God in their lives. The leading testimony will be to hear from people who, prior to the time of the convention, were not professing Christians but decided to follow the Lord as they read the various thoughts on the workings of God's grace to sinful humanity: saying they are born again. We look forward to people who will tell us of how they have found renewed strength to serve God with grace in their hearts. These are the aims of this convention. It was 2005,I had just recovered from a long illness following a mild surgery. I was home and recuperating, reading a great deal of scriptures and simply waiting on the Lord for direction in life. Those were very uncertain days, being two years old from NYSC and still there was no job and here was I becoming somewhat of a burden to my parents. I had taken to Children Evangelism to occupy my time but save for that, most of the week day was spent alone with God. But God was with me in those days. He began to reveal elements of His grace to me. One February morning, I heard the scripture clear in my spirit: "the path of the just is like a shining light, shining ever brightly unto a perfect day". I didn't even know it was in the bible. I would later find it in the book of proverbs. God will bless the righteous - whose righteousness is from His Son, Jesus Christ, by His grace and not as a result of what the righteous could ever do or achieve. I remember that the meat of that truth was driven home not by a NT scripture but one from the OT: Deuteronomy 2:1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days. 2 And the LORD spake unto me, saying, 3 Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward. 4 And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore: 5 Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession. 6 Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink. 7 For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing. In the bolded emphasis we see God say he will not give Israel the land he gave Edom; why? He has given the land of Seir to the children of Esau. Note the word give and given in those scriptures: that is the nature of God; he is one that gives. He is a God of grace. Now, what blew my mind then was Edom was not necessarily a nation worshiping Jehovah God. They had Abraham as their ancestor and for this they still enjoyed some level of grace from God. How much more God's children? Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? It is this God of grace we would be discussing about in Grace 2013 and we really hope that you will encounter him, receive a word from Him and go off to enjoy His grace in full. Whatever you do from now on, may it be out of response to the immeasurable grace God has bestowed on you and not just because you are trying to keep some laws or trying to please anyone. |
Tell us your testimony |
Well OP this is my response to your weak support for your so called man of God. I culled from this thread:https://www.nairaland.com/1411765/fathers-what-pastor-cozas-daughter. Visit the thread when you have the time: Thanks guys for the contribution. But on a more serious note, I had to seriously look up the issue because I am a parent too and in all of this controversy no one is considering what the parent may be thinking or how they may be feeling. What Pastor Biodun did is simply to take advantage of a young naive and easily impressionable young woman. It is generally known that women's weakness is in words spoken to them. I, as an aspiring minister, realized long time ago that this is the reason the scripture commands a minister to be married and for that minister's wife to satisfy him adequately. If not, the women that listen to such a man will fall for him and if he is the type with the libido of a Tiger Woods, he would take advantage of the those ladies under him. Every one that has led a Christian fellowship or preached anywhere, as a man, knows what I am talking about. The other tragedy relating to the story of this man's philandering is the fact that even though some ministers are not like Pastor Biodun (although if a honest stats is taking, it will be discovered that only a few gospel ministers have not slept with another woman other than their wife in ministry), virtually all of them are guilty of taking advantage of the members of their church. Follow this logic: As the head of my home, needs arise. When this happens I try to meet it. If I cannot, I call my wife to help. If both of us cannot, we pray, trust God and wait. Most times, God meets the need. Now imagine a need arise in church. The church has her provision through the tithes (for those who believe in it) and offering that comes to it. But when these are not sufficient to meet a need in church, church leaders resort to members to give, make a pledge or promises. My point is if this need truly can be met by God, why do you have to take advantage of people to give further. It like a need arising in my home and then I taking advantage of my position and power in some other place to raise finances to meet this need. So Pastor Biodun took advantage of the girls in his church physically but many other do so spiritually. Truth is these Pastors are taking advantage of God's people: God's children. If so far the father on this thread have responded with indignation at what they would do if anyone takes advantage of their daughters sexually, you can imagine how God, our Father, feels when the church is taken advantage of spiritually. It is a grave sin. Jesus: Matthew 21:12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.Paul: 2Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him...13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works...19 For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise. 20 For ye suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man smite you on the face... 27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and unclothedness. 28 Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? While everything Paul wrote up there is worth taking note of, see v. 28-29 where he talks of his concern for the churches: for the weak and for those offended. That is what happens when a minister takes advantage of those he is called to take care of; he offends them and it is a grave sin. Peter: 1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. That is the job of a Pastor and not sleeping with the girls or asking them for money for building projects. John: 3 John 9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. 10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.I hear some people come to this forum telling us that Pastor Biodun does not owe his congregation or anyone else an explanation. They are foolish people that say such things and it is obvious they don't know what the bible commands a true Pastor to do in regards to shepherding the flock. The fact that more ladies, having being emboldened by Ese's story, have come out to say that this man took advantage of them, shows the matter is confirmed. That Pastor and other pastors like him are as guilty as sin. On a final note, if Pastor Biodun had taken this scripture serious he would not be in the mess he is in right now: 1 Timoth 5:1 Rebuke not an elder, but entreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; 2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purityThat is the job of a true Pastor to the young girls under him. He has defiled a daughter of God and while some of us fathers wish him the worst, God the true Father of all will judge him with a righteous judgement. I hand him over to God. Now I proceed to a subject i never thought I need to discuss but must in the light of so much biblical illiteracy running around uncaged in our body polity: The Priesthood of All Believers! |
Immortal, invisible, God only wise Immortal, invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might; Thy justice like mountains high soaring above Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love. To all life Thou givest, to both great and small; In all life Thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee. Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight; All laud we would render, O help us to see: ’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee. Source: http://www.hymnal.net/hymn.php/h/14#ixzz2d6xgwDbq Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise is a Christian hymn with words by Walter Chalmers Smith, usually sung to the tune, "St Denio," originally a Welsh ballad tune, which became a hymn (under the name "Palestrina" in Caniadau y Cyssegr (1839) edited by John Roberts of Henllan (1807-1876). - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immortal,_Invisible,_God_Only_Wise |
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7 That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. |

I will refer you to these websites www.tithing101.com (you can download a book here) http://tekoapublishing.com/books/tithing/index.html (a book make up the website with each chapter on each webpage) http://www.tithing-russkelly.com/ and you can download a book on tithing by a young Nigerian, Mofesola, here: http://mb.mettalloids.com/tithe-and-you-the-book/ Tithing has been overly debated on NL; there is no evidence that this will reduce. We have people who keep asking the kind of question in the OP. Do your research; Study the scriptures; weight the arguments both for and against; check the website and pray. Then make your decision based on what God leads you to do and not what people claim could happen to you in the name of curse or curses. BTW, after a good study and prayer myself, I no longer tithe to any church but give as God enables me. |
It is immensely shameful the sort of tradition we propagate and advocate in Christian ministry in this clime. In other saner places this man would have resigned or be called to. But since he is the owner of the church and not Jesus, he has all the right to do whatever he wants. Why is he telling us that some people are asking him to keep quiet? What I would have expected is for him to use the sermon as an opportunity to tell his side of the story. He owes his congregants that much and then step aside until he is declared clean. The allegations against this man is not just Ese Walters. Many other young women have now come out to tell the same story. Does he have an answer to that also? Those people listening to him: is this the first time they are hearing the matter? It seem obvious to me that the matter of their pastor being a randy gentleman had been rumoured all over the church before Ese finally went to "press". We await his "robust" response. |
Thank you moderators for putting this thread https://www.nairaland.com/1407328/first-ever-e-convention-grace-convention on front page this morning and it even seem to me you have fixed it atop the religion section threads too. Thanks. |
I have a twenty month daughter and after God and her mother, she is everything to me. I understand better the Fatherhood of God as her father her. I cannot count how many times I have denied myself so she maybe provided for. She is simply adorable and I thank God everyday for giving her to us/me. Now, let me fast forward some twenty one years from now. My baby has graduated from school. I eke out some saving and collect a loan and send her for her PG in a London school. She returns two years after with a degree and a promise of a good job and I am here beaming with pride. But at close examination of my sweetheart, I notice she mostly moody, sad, withdrawn and possibly heart broken. I re assure her God is faithful 'U are not too old to be married', assuming it is the usual marriage wahala for young girls her age. One day she comes into my room and tells me that a Pastor has 'COZA' her and she goes on and on... For all fathers what will U do if U are Ese Walters father? |
tejpot:Amen Particularly for our presenters. We hope to adhere to the time on the time table. Internet will respond well everywhere in the world for GRACE 2013 IJN!
Oh. I missed it in my joy to partake of this potentially wonderful e-convention. I really hope the hosts will be able to communicate effectively and respond to questions without insults.
Oh Yes we will. In the rules, attacks and insults are prohibited and we hope to get mods to hide such comments. Looking forward to ur contribution to the convention.c. |
idnoble135: Hum....Sir, I want to assume by 'preview' U mean whether the organizes will be seeing the papers teachers will be presenting before hand. The answer to that is No. The organizers have a fair understanding of the position of our teachers on the subject of grace and thus invited them to share here. But we are trusting God more to put his word in their mouth for us all. Thus, we wouldn't reviewing their papers b4 presentation. After presentation, however, everyone can look up the papers and are free to raise questions, contribution and even objections, but objections should be made with due respect and abiding by the threads rules. I hope I ANSWERED ur question? |
thehomer: Are non-Christians invited?Yes, please. It was stated in the introduction @ the OP |
SHOW ME THY WAY Show me thy way Teach me the path Free me from all of my fears Trusting in you is so easy to do Lord When I see you as you really are As You really are, Lord and King As You really are, Lord of everything As You really are, help me to see you as you really are - by Unknown song writer This song above was taught to me as I concluded a Children Evangelism Ministry (CEM) course 8 yrs ago. Since then its been my way of praying to God to know more of Him. When dimensions of His grace began to be unveiled to me, I saw it as an answer to the above prayer. I call upon as many that will partake of this convention to come with a heart to know God, to find grace to help in time of need. I wish everyone a GRACE filled convention. God bless you. |
