CrimeRe: Nigerian Mother Jailed In The Uk For Sending Son To Nigeria. by duduspace(m): 9:04pm On Feb 18, 2011
Sagamite:
So your child should dictate to you?

I am sorry, but my opinion is that, if a child is your ward and it is your responsibility under the law to raise the child, then you have liberty to dictate where to raise the child. Until he is old enough to not be demanded by the government to be taken care of by you, until then his child rights is subservient to parental rights and dictates that is not harmful.
It does not necessarily mean your child should dictate to you, it however limits what you can do in the guise of discipline.

You have a right to dictate where to raise your child YES, but the state has the authority to deny you that right if they believe there is a danger to the child, in this instance the child has alleged forced marriage and abduction and the court is obligated to hear him out. If the parents believe they've done right then let them bring the boy back.

Sagamite:
The courts should not have placed an order based purely on a child's allegation, without any evidence and reasonable realism whatsoever.
The court placed the order not due to the child's allegation but the mother and family's repeated attempt to block his return to come and state his case. If this child turns up dead tomorrow and the judge didn't place this order what do you think the society will say? undecided

Sagamite:
It is as silly as the laws that dictate a woman can call police and demand her husband leaves the house because she fears domestic violence without having to produce any reasonable proof.

DANGEROUS PRECEDENCE!
We all know the law is an ass and is never really right all the time, but would you really preffer to have no law? besides it is not in all intances that the man has to leave the house, he only has to keep his cool and never raise his hand to the woman. Infact there are now cases of women being arrested for domestic violence instead. for example 2 of the WWE wrestlers have had their female partners arrested for domestic violence perpetuated against them.
What the law abhors is excessive self help.
CrimeRe: Nigerian Mother Jailed In The Uk For Sending Son To Nigeria. by duduspace(m): 8:41pm On Feb 18, 2011
Sagamite:
The court is faulty to take parental rights for a risk that does not exist and has not been checked out or reasonably assessed.

The law is not allowed to be lazy and then impede on people's rights under lazy assumptions. That is DANGEROUS to human rights.

I did not tackle this because I did not want to distract from your strawman. I wanted to address the strawman first.

So basically you are saying the courts should assume the parents are guilty until they prove themselves innocent?

Really?

There is no empirical evidence to show that such forced marriage can realistically occur or has ever occurred.

There is no evidence/witness put forth of the parents planning a marriage.

There is no evidence/witness put forth of the parents saying they are going to arrange a marriage.

There is no evidence/witness that after breaking the law, they have conducted OR ATTEMPTED to conduct a forced marriage. (albeit, this is after the fact)
Gotta step in here Sagamite, yu've ommited some of the things eldee pointed out

1. The parent is not being punished for sending the kid to Nigeria but for frustrating the court's efforts to bring him back to substantiate his allegations of being forced against his will, in following the concept of fair hearing, it is only right for the child to be brought back to state his side of the story.

2. The court has not convicted the parent of trying to forcefully marry off her son.

Sagamite:
So Nigerian parents should be banned from taking their kids to Nigeria because, according to YOU, the British judicial system has a right to BLANKETLY, frivously BLANKETLY, make an assumption that any kid in Nigeria is in danger?

So explain to me what stops a Nigerian court from preventing a UK kid from being taken by his O&G expatraite parents back to the UK where child abuse is a big issue.
There is no assumption being made here, a 17 year old has stated that he has been taken against his will, if the parents have nothing of their own to hide let them bring him back. Put yourself in the judge's shoes and take an impartial view. Parental rights are secondary to the rights of the child.

Sagamite:
So a UK court can prevent a parent from taking their child to Nigeria or ANY other non-first-world country of origin because of NON-direct issues that exist due to weak local structures that is inferior to UKs. WTF! I repeat WTF!

RIDICULOUS!
This is an emotional outburst, so many people take their children away from the UK 24/7/365 without any wahala. A child has stated he is being forced to do something against his will, the UK accords the same rights to everyone and that is why the parent is jailed for preventing the child from being brought back to state his case.

In addition, you should know that an attempt to force a marriage can happen anywhere even in the UK and needs to be investigated where an allegation is made.
CrimeRe: Nigerian Mother Jailed In The Uk For Sending Son To Nigeria. by duduspace(m): 5:26pm On Feb 18, 2011
The parents aint smart, they are allowing the boy communicate with his defence team via email I guess, I'm not for parents being dictators over their children but the child doesn't even seem to care if he sends his mother to jail? which kain pikin be dat one and why is the mother even fighting sef?  undecided 'disown the stubborn boy'  or cope with his unusual behaviour simple.

I wonder why people want to eat their cake and have it, does this mother really think a 17 year old who had his formative years in the UK where they continually reinforced his right to self determination can be forced to change his mind with beatings? The boy will just wake up someday and machete the woman or one of those people to death.

Interesting Stats about our starting 11 yesterday:
Avg age of team: 23.36
Number of Players who joined Arsenal before clocking 18:  7 (Cesc, Wilshere, Szczesny, Clichy, Song, Djorou, Theo)
Number of Players who joined Arsenal before clocking 22: 3 (RVP, Nasri, Eboue)

Anyone still wanna say there is no project youth and that this all happened by chance? undecided

Moral of the story, when Arsene is going for that next young talent, think twice before yu start pounding your keyboard to say he doesn't know what he is doing.

Don't buss that nut too soon gee! Newcastle is still fresh on our minds!
We were a man down and 2 dodgy penalty calls didn't help but I'm sure he learnt his lesson about those kinds of leg entanglements in the box.
Why should I take you seriously you would start Yinka Ayefele ahead of Theo! He had a good 1st half and our midfield didn't go to him enuff
If yu followed the origin of my discussion with Debo, that was precisely my point, not that Theo isn't good, he seriously turned a corner earlier on in the season, I just felt we would not have the midfield domination to make him dangerous earlier on in the game, on watching the game again though I have to admit he was a lot dangerous than I even thought he would be, the boy keeps gettin better and I have no doubts about him anymore.
My only reason for wanting him on the bench really was that I felt he could be an hidden weapon, with the way Nasri was outrunning Maxwell at the end of the match I can only imagine what Theo would have been doing to him if subbed on.

Great game by all to be honest. Kos, Jack and Sczczezny were fantastic.
The emergence of Jack is a critical component of the new Arsenal, atimes he functions as a 2nd playmaker from deep, The next question Arsenal fans should start debating is Who was better at the same age between Cesc and Jack?
Honestly, I'm beginning to think Jack edges it because he combines it with the much touted British Grit, there have been times I've seen Cesc's head drop but I've never seen Jack's head drop. I'm not sure if its because this 5 year drought weighs more on Cesc.

After all said and done though, I still would start Arshavin ahead of Theo but Theo is a lot better and at 21 has much room for improvement.
But if it was Arshavin who started and got taken off, yu lot would have been saying Theo should have started.

Now, do I start saying I was right that Arshavin should have started? Not really I don't gloat.  tongue
Arsene must have had good reason to start Theo and yes on current form he deserved it, nevertheless something tells me he would have been better coming on as a sub and we could have even scored more.
I'm beginning to suspect a subtle flaw in this Barca team, their stamina levels if they're made to work hard, almost same results and same pattern as the last time out, only difference our defence was better this time.
Let's hope we carry that into the return leg and leave no chance for Messi to get 4 goals this time.

I have never changed my opinion about this matchup?  undecided  we shouldn't have had it in the first instance if our boys didn't mess up in the group stages.
all I've said is I want to see the boys compete and I don't want us to be cowardly in packing the bus. There is no shame for any team who loses to this Barcelona team, anyone who loves good football will appreciate this team and we are aspiring to their levels.
The important thing is that you don't get to that level by packing the bus when you play them.
