Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has described a section of retired workers who addressed themselves as Internally Displaced Pensioners (IDP) in the state as bunch of ingrates. Aregbesola spoke at the weekend when another section of pensioners held peaceful procession in Osogbo, to demonstrate their support to his government and assured him of their unalloyed loyalty. He said his administration gave priority attention to retired workers and multiplied money for payment of pension by five times and paid as and when due until November 2014 when recession set in. Aregbesola reiterated that his government borrowed as much as 25 billion Naira from banks to pay workers’ salaries and pension and stop it when it could no longer cope with the huge wage and pension. About 3,000 members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) under the aegis of Triangular Group of Pensioners lauded Aregbesola for paying the arrears of their pension up to December 2016. Dirty Politics Governor Aregbesola who justified his love to workers and retired ones explained that Osun state is the only state in the federation that implement 142% pension increment approved by the Abacha military regime, adding that between 2015 and 2016, his administration had paid N9.6billion to retired workers alone. “We implemented 142% increase in pension which other rich and buoyant states including Lagos has not implemented. Nearly 90,000 Christians were killed for their faith in 2016, equivalent to one every six minutes, according to a new study by the Italy-based Center for Studies on New Religions (Censur). The annual study, which is set for release next month, also indicated that between 500 and 600 million Christians were prevented from freely practicing their faith. The number has actually declined from 105,000 in 2015, but it still makes Christians the most persecuted religious group in the world, Massimo Introvigne, director of Censur, told Vatican Radio when announcing the findings on Monday. “Without wishing to forget or belittle the suffering of members of other religions, Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world,” Introvigne said. Around 70 percent of the killings occurred in tribal conflicts in Africa, with the high number attributed to Christians refusing to take up weapons for reasons of conscience, Introvigne said. A separate report earlier this year found that a large number of Christian deaths were occurring in northern Nigeria, where the terrorist group Boko Haram operates. The other 30 percent, according to Introvigne, occurred due to terrorist attacks and government persecution, notably in North Korea. According to famous leaker Sonny Dickson, the 2017 iPhone will have a radical new design, get significantly larger and more expensive but I can also exclusively reveal two essential new additions the range has been crying out for for years... A sneak peek on the yet to be released iPhone 8: Get Ready for fast charging.... Inside all three new 2017 iPhones (Dickson reiterates previous sources that there will be three distinct new models) will be a new ‘Tristar 3, Hydra’ chip which manages the charging port. “In normal people words… [it] will include fast charging,” he explained. But before you celebrate there are a couple of key unknowns here. Firstly whether the fast charging will be compatible with any current fast charging standards. Since this isn’t by Qualcomm it won’t be “Quick Charge” but there is a chance it could be the fast charging built into USB 3.1 - a standard Apple is very keen on across the MacBook range - though I highly doubt we’ll see a switch from Lightning due to its lucrative proprietary licensing fees. Secondly just because the port can handle fast charging doesn’t mean Apple wants to implement it. After all current iPhones can charge more quickly using an iPad charger (try it out) but Apple never supplies this more powerful charger in the box despite the high price tag. Clearly, for whatever reason, Apple wants it to remain off the radar for mainstream customers. And lastly there’s no mention of wireless charging, but I remain hopeful given the change of chassis material. Tap to Wake is An 'iPhone 8' Exclusive.... Just because three new iPhone models are expected in 2017, doesn’t mean there will be parity between them. Dickson explains that while Apple is finally catching up to Android rivals by adding Tap To Wake, it will only feature on the so-called ‘iPhone 8’ which will feature a brand new design rather than the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus which will mimic Apple designs since the iPhone 6 and launch alongside it. Over the years scientist and expert had believed that this newly discovered organ was a series of fragmented parts but according to a new report by Irish researchers it has been confirmed that the mesentery is indeed its own continuous organ - a fold of membrane that connects the intestine to the abdomen. So in other word you technically gained an organ...LOL The discovery could create a new field of "mesenteric" science and may help doctors better understand and treat abdominal diseases, said Calvin Coffey, a professor of surgery at University of Limerick's Graduate Entry Medical School. An organ is considered to be a self-contained body part that serves a specific vital function. The heart, for instance, is a muscular organ that pumps blood through our blood vessels. Researchers say they still don't quite understand the mesentery's key functions, beyond the obvious role as a connective layer. One of the world's earliest depictions of the mesentery was produced by the Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. While his drawing and subsequent medical illustrations showed the mesentery as a continuous structure, in the past century scientists came to believe it was a series of broken-up pieces, and thus less medically significant. In 2012, Coffey and his colleagues first showed through microscopic analyses that the fold of membrane was, in fact, a single connected structure. Over the last four years, the team continued to collect evidence confirming the mesentery's classification as an organ, which culminated with the November paper. The research prompted the publishers of Gray's Anatomy, one of the world's best-known medical textbooks, to update the entry for mesentery. Elsevier, which publishes both Gray's Anatomy and The Lancet journal, included the reclassification of mesentery in its 41st edition of Gray's, which came out September 2015, Mashable confirmed. NOKIA is set to make a huge comeback in 2017, the former market leader is set to re-launch 5 of her old-school mobile phones. The Android phones will have 5” and 5.7” displays and the first set will be unveiled at the annual Mobile World Congress tech show in February. The former market leader fell from grace after the iPhone hit the market in the late noughties. And while older Nokia models are worth an absolute fortune at auction, a return using the much-loathed Windows 10 operating system was a massive flop. But it’s hoped that with the introduction of an Android operating system (and a new design team behind the scenes), the phones will be a hit with nostalgic gadget lovers. Much likes its predecessors, the new devices will be cheap but durable. It said the Nokia 150 and Nokia 150 Dual are “built to last” and promise the same battery power from the good old Nokia 3310 days. They offer up to 22 hours talk time and 31 days standby. The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has cleared the air on why he refused to appear in court to face litigation instituted against him by Oluwo-Oke of Iwo-Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye, on the allegation that he was sponsoring thugs and involved in yahoo fraud. At a meeting with one of the leaders of Quadiriyah Islamic Movement of Yoruba land, Mr Muhammed Imran-Adio, at Imoru Compound, Iwo, Osun State, Oba Akanbi described the allegation as a mere threat to intimate the crown. “The lawsuit was the handiwork of some mischief makers who want to distract my compassionate leadership style and an attempt to get me docked so as to discredit the crown. “How can I appear in court on defamatory allegations? An 86-year-old jewel thief who has kept jewelry sellers on their toes since the 1970s has struck again, police say - this time by slipping a $2,000 diamond necklace into her pocket. Doris Payne, who has been the subject of a documentary and casually said during an Associated Press interview earlier this year that "I was a thief," was arrested Tuesday at a Von Maur department store outside Atlanta. Payne was arrested after she put the necklace in her back pocket and tried to leave the store, Dunwoody police spokesman Mark Stevens said in an email. She faces a shoplifting charge. Online jail records did not show any bond information, and it wasn't clear whether Payne had an attorney who could comment. Attorney Shawn McCullers, who represented her last year when she was accused of pocketing a $690 pair of earrings from a Saks Fifth Avenue department store at a mall in Atlanta's upscale Buckhead neighborhood, said in an email Wednesday that he was not currently representing her in the latest arrest. Authorities have said Payne has lifted pricey baubles from countless jewelry stores around the world in an illicit career that has spanned six decades. The legend of Payne's alleged thefts have long fascinated the public and media, with countless news stories and a 2013 documentary film, "The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne," detailing her feats. When asked about her exploits in the interview with The Associated Press earlier this year, she said simply: "I was a thief." Court papers in Atlanta reference six cases prior to the alleged theft last year, mostly in southern California, dating to 1999. Payne was raised in West Virginia and moved with her family to Ohio when she was a teenager. Authorities have said she has used at least 22 aliases over the years and probably got away more often than she was caught, though she has done several stints in prison. Sci Phi Journal are inviting submissions for the short story competition “Philosophy Through Fiction”, organised by Helen De Cruz (Oxford Brookes University), with editorial board members Eric Schwitzgebel (UC Riverside), Meghan Sullivan (University of Notre Dame), and Mark Silcox (University of Central Oklahoma). The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of US$500 (funded by the Berry Fund of the APA) and their story will be published in Sci Phi Journal. Short stories that are eligible for this competition must be some form of speculative fiction (this includes, but is not limited to, science fiction, fantasy, horror, alternative history, or magical realism), and must explore one or more philosophical ideas. You could be a pro at job interviews, but according to Business Insider there's a chance you say something a bit off and completely wreck your chances. 11 things you say that can kill your job interview instantly ruin your chances: 1. 'What does your company do?' Questions like this will make you look like you don't even care enough to run a simple Google search. 2. 'Are you married?/Are you pregnant?/etc.' Never ask the interviewer any personal questions -- or anything that could be offensive. It's just off-putting. 3. 'S---,' 'b----,' 'f---, ' etc. Hey, everyone curses. It's better to hold off on the profanities in job interviews, though. That being said, letting out a curse word or two during a funny story might not be a nail in your coffin. Angrily swearing at someone (your interviewer or otherwise), on the other hand, would definitely knock you out of the running. This goes double for any offensive, racist, or sexist speech. 4. 'I want your job' Put yourselves in your interviewer's shoes. Would you want to hire someone who sounds like they're about to go "All About Eve" on you? 5. 'This isn't my top choice' Even if you can't imagine yourself staying on at the company too long, it's important not to express this aloud. Your interviewer's not going to respond well to someone that expresses an intention to use the position as a mere stepping stone to something bigger and better. The same thing goes for interviewing with your second choice. You may have a dream job in the wings that you're waiting to hear back from, but don't make the interviewer feel like you don't value their organisation. 6. 'I'd better get this job, or...' A South African man who medics believed to have died in a motorcycle crash was found alive in the morgue when his shocked family came to identify his body. Msizi Mkhize, 28, was walking home with a friend when he was hit by a vehicle in KwaMashu, a township in South Africa, not far from Durban. He was pronounced dead at the scene and transferred to the Phoenix morgue. There, he spent TWO DAYS in a fridge — despite still being alive. When his family came to view the body, shocked staff discovered he still had a pulse. Nearly every job applicant is guilty of this, the use of buzzwords from time to time, but professionals are increasingly on their ability to communicate, "says Paul Mcdonald, a senior executive director for personal-placement firm Robert Half. Some of the major problems with using buzzwords, according to Mary Lorenz, a corporate-communications manager at CareerBuilder, are that they have become so overused that they've lost all meaning, and they don't differentiate the job seeker from other candidates because they're so generic.Other, less jargony words and terms should be avoided when they serve little purpose to the hiring manager. All these words do is waste their time and, as a result, you lose out on the few precious seconds a recruiter spends scanning your résumé. Instead, Lorenz says job seekers should speak in terms of accomplishments and show rather than tell. "Avoiding overused terms can help job seekers convey their message and stand out from the crowd," McDonald says. Here's what you should avoid: 1. "Best of breed" When CareerBuilder surveyed more than 2,200 hiring managers last year, it found "best of breed" to be the most irritating term to be seen on a résumé. The phrase offers little meaning and doesn't help differentiate candidates. "Employers want to know what makes the job seekers unique, and how they will add value to the specific organization for which they're applying," Lorenz says. 2. 'Phone' Career coach Eli Amdur tells Business Insider that there is no reason to put the word "phone" in front of the actual number: "It's pretty silly. They know it's your phone number." The same rule applies to email. 3. 'Results-driven' "Instead of simply saying that you're results-driven, write about what you did to actually drive results — and what those results were," Lorenz suggests. 4. 'Responsible for' Superfluous words like "responsible for," "oversight of," and "duties included" unnecessarily complicate and hide your experience, says Alyssa Gelbard, founder and president of Résumé Strategists. "Be direct, concise, and use active verbs to describe your accomplishments," she suggests. Instead of writing, "Responsible for training interns ...," simply write, "Train interns ..." 7. 'I,' 'me,' or 'myself' Avoid using personal pronouns like I, me, my, we, or our, Gelbard says. "A person reviewing your résumé knows that you're talking about your skills, experience, and expertise or something related to the company for which you worked, so you don't need to include pronouns." Following the recent spat between Nigeria's former VP, Atiku Abubakar and the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai. (If you miss the story read it here). The United States Department of Justice has come out to clear the former VP stating that Mr. Atiku did not any record that indicates that Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has a pending lawsuit in the US. In an email to Punch on Friday, a spokesperson for the US DOJ, Peter Carr said, “Thank you for reaching out to us. I have checked the public court records, and they do not show cases filed against a defendant named Atiku Abubakar.” This was stated as a response to Sunday Punch’s request for information on whether Abubakar is wanted in the US in connection with any issue of money laundering. The mail also asked the department to confirm whether Abubakar has been banned from entering the US and if there is any court case against him concerning the Halliburton scandal which resulted in the conviction of a US lawmaker, William Jefferson. Asked if it is true that the ex-vice president (now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress) was banned from entering the US, the American official said the issue was confidential. He said, “Visa issues are confidential under section 222(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. If your question is specifically about entry – not about visas per se – I would refer you to the US Customs and Border Protection.” Last week, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, had implied that Abubakar was avoiding a visit to the US because he might be charged with a case of money laundering. France first female Astronaut Claudie Haignere, who was a backup crew member in 1993 for the Mid Altair mission, had to be restrained after yelling a caution before overdosing on sleeping pills. At the time it was reported she was found conscious but required restraint while screaming: “Earth must be warned” before falling into a coma. She claimed the incident was a result of “burnout syndrome”. However conspiracy theorists believe she was trying to warn Earth about life in outer space. Claudie made it to the Mir space station in 1996 as part of the Russian-French Cassiopée mission and in 2001 she was the first European woman to visit the International Space Station. Asteroid 135268 Haigneré is named after her and her husband, who also on the mission. When she retired from space work she persued a career in politics from 2002-2005. After leaving politics Claudie went to work in a biology lab at the Pasteur Institute. The accidental public servant, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has responded to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's allegation that he (Atiku) was betrayed by the Kaduna State governor and former EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu. In a statement signed by the governor on Tuesday, he called out the former VP, accusing him of falsehood. He said Mr. Abubakar “has a record of spewing outright lies and innuendo against my person”. “As we struggle to build a law-abiding society and secure progressive outcomes for our people, we cannot allow the triumph on these shores of those who will have us move to a post-factual world,” he said. The Kaduna governor said not even Mr. Abubakar’s expertise “in the dark arts of damaging other people through a campaign of lies from him and his media machine” is capable of returning the country to its past. Mr. El-Rufai said contrary to the postulation by Mr. Abubakar, he never had anything to do with the incorporation of Transcorp. The Federal Government has described the proposed strike by university lecturers, ASUU, as ‘unconstitutional.’ The government’s stance was made by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. The government, however, also appealed to ASUU to rescind its decision to embark on the one week warning strike from November 16. Mr. Ngige urged ASUU to shelve the strike to make room to address contending issues. Mr. Ngige, via a statement issued by Samuel Olowokere, Deputy Director of Press in the Ministry, said shelving the strike would ensure wider consultation. “The claims of nationwide consultations by ASUU cannot be true as the Ministry of Labour and Employment which is the chief conciliator of industrial relations disputes is yet to receive a direct petition from ASUU. “This is against the Federal Government who is the jurisdictional employer,” he said.
