Car TalkRe: The Nigerian Police And Engine Number. by dulphines: 10:25pm On Jan 15, 2013
Siena: Again, you're not getting it. I never said your vehicle registration documents would have your engine size as the engine number. I said your engine number WILL have the code that tells what the engine capacity is, which SHOULD match the one on your engine block, unless it's had a replacement.
Bro, please get it clear; Nigeria police dn't care or knw abt engine capacity. All they want is a match of the engine number and what is written on your particulars. If B is mistakenly written as 3 or vice-versa, then you are pronounced a CRIMINAL with a stolen vehicle. Your points are informative and noted bt nt a clear response to the subject. Merci mon ami.

oyin50: I beg to disagree, there is absolutely nothing wrong with our culture. Adopting an alien culture to soothe your ego is what I have a problem with. saying elderly Nigerians demanding respect doesn't add or subtract anything from them, so does it not add or subtract anything from you respecting them except offcourse a massage or smear on your ego. Be humble, it cost 0 energy. Cheers
So what would you say about those elderly men and woman that addresses younger staff oga, madam and sir because they'r better positioned? Cultural abuse or psychophancy i wld say! The titles'r absolutely not neccessary. I hate my boss especially when he prides with the oga title

1025: how did u steal my opinion? most of these kidnappers only get mind but they no get sense. abeg, if u know them, tell them to keep the woman even when they have received the ransom to make sure the funds are not marked.
these politicians think they have sense. if a poor man is kidnapped, they will not do anything but if an okonjo iweala is kidnapped, they will know how to mark funds to pay for her release.
if they did not catch those kidnappers, they will say they did not pay any ransom.
let nigerians especially these kidnappers and boko brothers use 2013 to teach these criminal politicians that the rich also cry. anything to make them uncomfortable will be a welcome idea.
make God punish them and their generations unborn.
You or any of your relative may become politicians tomorrow. Never pray 4 calamity to befall anyman. Leave judgment to God.

Obinnau: its not envy mister. Actually they are right, protocols need to be observed. But they should have made the matter an in-house têtê-a-têtê.
Most scientist that discovered drugs for several diseases did their work privately in their respective labs.
What the university ought to do is to verify and identify with him if his claim is right.
No need to start blabbng!!!
CareerRe: Are Technicians Better Than Engineers In Nigeria? by dulphines: 2:28pm On Jan 09, 2013
rman: Engineers and technicians play different roles.

A good engineer should be able to do and deliver properly the technical aspect of engineering jobs.

A good technician may not necessarily know/understand the engineering principles behind what they do.

Engineers come up with designs, carry out research, in some instances, develop releveant sofwares, etc.

Technicians are needed only for implemetation of what engineers have come up with.

A lot our engineers in Nigeria today are basically technicias because or university system is not research driven. Our engineers most times only implement, hence the reason technicians can do their jobs in Nigeria. In a few instances, we have engineers that do real engineering work. A few can be found in our oil and gas and telecoms sector.
You nailed it, THREAD CLOSED!

The one that annoys me is Oga, madam, sir, chief etc as used in most offices even mine.
The ideal thing is to address everyone with his or her first name. Apart from eye service, some people just think that if you don't address them with the oga or madam title that you have no respect. Our culture is somewhat problematic!

Jobs/VacanciesRe: How HR Personals Kill Dreams In Nigeria by dulphines: 4:43pm On Jan 06, 2013
igbonla: One of the big four with no selection policy? And you believed the applicant? Do job adverts leave out required class of degree or the company decided to change the goal post during the game? It does appear that the applicant failed the selection process and had to come up with some silly story to cover up.
know now that they change the goal post during the game. I experienced that years ago with one of the big oil companies. 4-5 years experience was advertized but after the aptitude and skill test they said they needed trainees below 30yrs instead. It happens when the big wigs want to bring in their candidates then HR personnel comes up with flimzy tales and u blame yourself for nonperformance. The HR staff are like muppets, their bosses calls the shot. 2.1 or 2.2 isn't a requirement any longer in Nigeria. Politicians and their likes get all the slots. Scratch my back, i scratch yours policy.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: How HR Personals Kill Dreams In Nigeria by dulphines: 12:54pm On Jan 06, 2013
First class, 2.1 or 2.2 does nt determine personality. One with a 3rd or pass and full of charisma is a lot better than a first class Jewman. If u made a 2:2 or 3rd, forget those companies and their HR bottlenecks and start thinking big.
