chulla12: It has been 20 days since Patrick Sawyer's death and 25 days since he landed in Nigeria.Logic says she is otherwise they wouldn't go through all that stress tracking her. Besides all the others who had direct contact with Sawyer at the hospital are positive for the virus. |
Arosa: Think about this case scenario, A person touches an ebola sick man, she becomes already infected. As the ebola virus is on her hand, she touches another person, that person is also infected. The question is how long will this virus remain on her hand as a contagion, before she herself becomes a main source of the disease ? (hours, days, mouths?)If she's already contacted the virus by direct contact with the patient but them disinfects herself and her equipment, she'll probably not transmit the virus to any other patient until she starts showing symptoms herself. You can only give ebola as a carrier when you show symptoms, most notably fever and diarrhoea. |
Symphony007: is this a joke?No i'm afraid. All the primary contacts with Patrick sawyer were not isolated. They were simply given thermometers and asked to isolate themselves at home. They were told to contact the hospital once they noticed any changes as that's the best way of tackling the disease, early detection. That's the protocol in Nigeria. |
priest2u: so how did the nurse that had primary contact with sawyer gave it to that pregnant woman? remember the difference in time between both contacts is less than 3 days.she probably used the same equipment she used in treating Patrick sawyer to treat the pregnant woman. The nurse wasn't showing any symptoms so she couldn't have given the pregnant lady directly |
Symphony007: Every member of the nigerian federal government deserve a very good slap from every nigerian. How did a PRIMARY ebola contact make her way to enugu? Not SECONDARY o!!! PRIMARY!!! So all these people they claim are quarantined or "under observation" are free to go about their buisness?? Oh...what a shame. And they think this 21 people they have identified are the only contacts? What of the passangers of the bus she took to enugu? I always knew the nigerian govt but too incompetent to handle this scourge. Every man on your own now o!!!The protocol in Nigeria is to give them thermometers to monitor their body temperatures themselves, and tell them to isolate themselves at home and not to travel or go to work. Nobody suspected of having the disease is actually quarantined. It is only when you report back to them with a fever or other symptoms of ebola that you are isolated and retested for ebola. |
As long as she wasnt showing any symptoms of the disease, no need to worry. The disease is only transmitable at later stages of infection, after symptoms have already manifested. So if she had it and didnt show any symptoms, she couldnt have given anyone. |
Lol i'm not interested in the protest, i'm interested in fight for money after the protest, its always fun to watch ![]() |
Its very simple, boko haram's defence budget is definitely more than the $14billion Nigeria has spent on defence in the last 3yrs. How else can you explain our defeat? |
JustCurious: Good point.Ah!!! Are thes people for real! Jesus christ! Those Chibok girls are still missing, Boko haram is still in control of Gworza, $20 billion is still unaccounted for and someone posts a comment like this! Ah! |
BISFOYAT: What a maturıty speech! I salute you on thıs one.Proud student of PEJ grammar school. Continue flying your schools flag high ![]() |
priscaoge: I keep loving this man's action every single dayU are a very naive Nigerian. Smh for u ![]() |
So this is what Nigeria is using to fight Boko Haram? Run down trucks and toyota hilux buses? This is what Jonathan has been using our $14billion to buy since 2011. Its either Boko Haram's defence budget is higher than $14 billion, hence the constant defeat of our soldiers, or that money is not going to these boys. How else can Boko haram be inflicting heavy loses on a $14billion funded Army? |
Idrismusty97: How many meetings would West Africa counties attend? They have done that for Boko haram now they would still do that again for Ebola. Its not their fault, if we start holding our leaders responsible instead of making noise online maybe we'll see changes. See the US that doesn't even have any case of ebola ( apart from the imported ones from Africa) has already conducted a congressional inquiry into the CDC's response to ebola, not in America o, in Africa! While we that are the direct victims are sitting down here and making noise while our information minister is telling us there are vaccines and medicines for ebola. Westerners are not magicians, they just know the meaning of responsibility and accountability which are alien to Africa. |
igbsam: Any man holding and eating two corn at the same time will ruin a state's treasury beyond redemption if allowed to be in charge. Congratulations Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.Buahahahahahaha ![]() |
zicoraads: Y'all are so dumb, that is why it was so easy for some bored lady to swindle the whole nation into bathing with salt.Oga the job of an opposition politician is not to sing the praises of an incumbent, its to highlight his flaws and profer better alternatives. In a country like Nigeria with plenty of flaws and an incumbent that is just too cynical to effect any changes but would rather hound anybody that has the guts to highlight his flaws, the job of the opposition becomes more difficult, even dangerous. But the irony is that people like you that are at the receiving end of all the foolish decisions of the incumbent are now joining hands with the incumbent to demonize the opposition. Its just tragic. |
arsetalks: Seriously, I told your dad when he was sending you to school that he should let us use that money as an investment on catfish pepper soup and malt, he refused, see now how you are disgracing him.U wan kill persin wit laughter on a sunday mornin ![]() |
Lucasbalo: People that are suffering the most are the vocal supporters of GEJ. People living on $5.00 a day still lapping behind their oppressors. Jonathan and his cohorts are stealing the commonwealth dry and the fools on nairaland are praising him. Worried for Nigeria's future.Seriouzly me too! |
Another my skul beta pass ur skul thread. As a graduate of OAU and as someone that has visited CU, i can say without any doubt that OAU is the best skul in Nigeria only on nairaland and in the minds of OAU students. Reality is that CU has grown and is still growing while the rest are living on the glory years of the 70's and 80's. Its ridiculous to say OAU that is almost always ( and currently) on strike is better than a school that has probably never had any interruption in its academic calendar. @topic: banning mobile phones in the 21st century is just childish and ridiculous. |
I think the best treatment now is prevention. Lets not romanticize surviving ebola and treatment for ebola which may allow people let their guard down. Ebola is still a serious threat! |
drchingy: Surprising how everyone is so eager for US to falland who illegally invaded Iraq and caused the chaos there in the first place? Russia? Whose weapons are being used by ISIS? Russia? Who gave ISIS weapons to fight Assad in Syria? Russia? |
xp17: bros, if you know how many humans and animals died during the world war 1 and world war 2 respectively, you would have gone in your quit to pray that God should not allow this happen in your generation.I doubt if you've ever seen a map of the world before or if you studied anything close to cold war history in secondary school. If you did, comeback here and correct this rubbish you posted |
donnypool: i really did not hear about that tho, but lets use common sense, how can salt and water protect one from virus? this is not a minister of info thing, this is pure ignorance and illiteracy. The FG for sure is to blame for the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria, but still Nigerians must take this extremely too far. Imagine the virus has killed just one person, but two extra casualties has been recorded. That really doesn't make no senseIrrespective of how ridiculous the salt and sugar thing is, it was borne out of ignorance ( lack of information) of genuine preventive measures. |
. |
donnypool: nor be fight sirBros i know but you need to appreciate the enormity of this thing. I don't appreciate people holding forte for this guys when they are culpable by their irresponsibility. Did the minister of information act responsibly when he said 4 months ago that Nigeria was ready with vaccines to treat ebola? |
[quote author=donnypool]http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/top-stories/31238-bathe-with-salt-in-water-is-a-wicked-lie-health-minister http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/fg-asks-nigerians-disregard-hot-water-salt-cure-ebola/ Nairaland is not the right place for legit info sir Whoever said anything about Nairaland being a source of information? All i said is that there is a dearth of information on preventive measures for ebola. In the absence of such information, people have naturally decided to take their own protection into their own hands, hence the salt and sugar info which would have been easily discarded had the Minister of health or information conducted massive public orientatiin campaigns on genuine preventive measures. A press statement released by somebody's secretary in Abuja (which i'm actuallly just seeing) will not calm frayed nerves in Lagos or calabar or Kano. What we're supossed to be seeing is the Minister of Health or Information going live on national TV or radio to teach people on genuine preventive measures for ebola. We're not seeing that! |
donnypool: Are you making sense at all?, Can't you see now that in Nigeria Ebola has killed on nurse and 'The Fear of Ebola' has killed two persons? It has being on every social that the virus as no cure and there are preventive measures everywhere for people to follow. The minister of information, health as made it clear on preventive measures to follow. Please i'd like a quote or an audio or video link with either the minister of health or information dispelling the salt and sugar rumour or on preventive measures for ebola. If you can't supply the link then forever hold your peace. |
donnypool: don't you think the rumor will lead to more out break as people will no longer take precautions in doing things? man if you are educated, act like oneAre you making sense at all? People are scared that's why rumours are coming up! Its now behoves on the people in charge of disseminating information to allay peoples fears and tell them how they can protect themselves which we're not seeing! Our minister of information was telling us 4 moinths ago that Nigeria was ready with vaccines and medicine incase of an ebola outbreak. Where are those vaccines now? Instead of the minister to at least save face now and go on the news to calm people down and allay their fears, he's nowhere to be found. Instead we're arresting people that are scared to death about ebola. Its a tragedy! |
Nigeria is a very ridiculous country. The same government that has refused to act since this ebola disease was reported in Nigeria, the same government that doesn't even know the meaning of quarantine or outbreak now wants to start attacking people for taking their own health into their hands and protecting themselves. If the information ministry had sensitised people on measures to prevent ebola infection, this salt and sugar rumour would have been ignored long time ago. People are scared and worried and since there is lack of information on how to protect themselves, they're taking their protection into their own hands. And our st.upid government wants to arrest people for that. Nonsense! |
Lagos state governor currently visiting infectious disease hospital Yaba |
This Ebola thing is now a game of numbers. The question now is how many people was Nigeria's index case, Mr Sawyer, able to infect before he died. From the plane he boarded to his transportation to the hospital in Ikoyi and his eventual death. If we are able to conscientiously account for all the people he came in contact with, then we'll have no problems. |
You people have just made a mountain out of a molehill because the story is false. Open the link and check for yourselves. ![]() |
