Yes, you need to be able to show that as the sponsor, you can afford to pay for her trip. I believe the funds must be in your account for a minimum number of months but I can't remember how long.

When you come down here, youll see the challenge parents are facing because their wards cant compete with children their age who started writing earlier.

Some schools won't even admit a child into a class her age because the child cant compete with his/her peers due to the standard they operate. They mostly suggest putting them in a lower class and this can be very frustrating for most parents especially when changing the childs school from the so called Montessori. This makes them opt for extra lessons on writing for their ward just so they can be at par with other children.

Most Montessori schools are no longer thriving in Nigeria these days.

This should not be about competition but proper development. I am learning a lot about education from my kids and they way they are being thought. When I learnt my friends kids back home were already reading and doing maths, I was a bit worried but now I appreciate the system here. EVERYTHING they teach or do and how they do it is DELIBERATE. They seem to have researched most aspect of child development and are methodical about it unlike in Nigeria where everything goes and it's more about parents competing with each other on their children's behalf. My 2 year old cannot read or write. When he turns 5, he will start school and learn to read and write the right way. I never knew there was a way to write each letter until when I home schooled my children during the lockdown. I "crammed" the letters of the alphabet but my children were taught the "art" of writing. They were never thought A-Z. There is a sequence in which it was thought using phonics. For example they could start witth the "ah" sound and move to the "Ee" sound.
The Nigerian government needs to step up and regulate the educational sector and weed out all these quacks. I now know why most of the Nigerians that schooled in UK Universities struggle while those here appear to go through effortlessly.

Diesel cars are no longer considered clean but I don't know if it now affects taxes.

The problem is I alreadybooked this hotel long ago via booking, but somethinghappened and I had to postpone my trip. Then booking said for the new date modification, there was an extra fee of 75$ to be paid on arrival... so I was okay thinking I can pay with cash. On gettingthere the hotel says they don'tdo cash only card. And it's too late to cancel my reservation, else I won'tget refund.

Have you tried paying using paypal or linking your card to paypal or Gpay?

I’m guessing its not IT right? Everyone always says job security. Has there been a time when you didn’t have a contract gig.

It is actually IT but very specialised (Telecoms) and limited hence why I am looking to go into the tech side.
There was a time I didn't have a gig but luckily my contract "savings" saw me through. I am perm now because I didn't find a contract role plus I had hope to hit a jackpot so I can retire. Well long and short of it is that I am back to work and retirement is postponed .

No nah, I am trying to change career that's why. I have been lucky so far in my current field.
I do mentor people too but mentor pass mentor especially when the mentor is a goddess.

Currently a Perm. I had an assessment which deemed me then to be inside but the implementation was postponed so I and others appealed. That contract has ended now and I am back to perm. Looking to go back though even if I am deemed inside IR35, this permanent thing is not working for me.

For me in my 2 contract roles so far, it's been 1 interview each. The second role was 1 and half. The half was for them to see me in person and lasted less than 20mins because I extended it with my questions so that my transport fare will not waste.
That's one of the advantages of contracting. I hate long recruitment processes.

Priti Patel will be granted new powers to impose visa penalties on countries that do not cooperate on deportations, under new reforms in the Nationality and Borders Bill announced on Friday.

The Home Secretary will be able to suspend visas entirely, impose a £190 surcharge on applications to come to the UK or increase visa processing times.

The powers will affect the whole visa service, including study, work, visitor and settlement visas.


The aim is to encourage other countries to cooperate with the UK Government when it comes to deportations and removals.

But to cheer you up, some online applications do ask "diversity" questions which includes your age range, gender and race.

A job ad would have some words in it. Make sure you have those words in your cv. What I mean is, if you’re applying for a Scrum master role, and your cv doesn’t have “scrum” in it, it will fall through.

What I advise my mentees to do is:

Pick 3 job ads that you like. Read & digest them very well. Paraphrase each sentence into your cv (if it’s a something you’ve done or can do o).

The reason I put that last sentence is because I have a few people that “lied” in their cv and are crying now in the job.

So be kiaful- no go do pass yasef.

If you don’t know the job line, invest time into learning it, that’s how you upskill yourself for a role. E.g. if the job line says sql, go to w3schools and learn basic sql. It will help you defend it well if asked in an interview.

Also make sure you don’t have things like age, gender, full address (just London or Leeds and postcode is fine) or state of origin (lol whenever I see these in cvs i k ow it’s a Nigerian ). Please don’t put picture.

If you have money, find a cv writer online and pay them to arrange your cv for you. It’s worth the investment because they make it look very fine and some more words you may not remember.

You can scatter your cvs up and down but don’t apply to these big companies like a mumu. Even if you change email, algorithms dey to flag you out.

Please can you throw more light on this? I think I am currently having this issue with Amazon. I an an unsuccessful interview with them a fe years ago and ever since I have not gotten any. My friends have sent in countless referrals but no success. I even asked them to delete my data under GDPR and they declined, used a different email (Mumu like me) without success. Please if you can tell me what's happening, I will appreciate it.

I’m trying to get a global talent visa (tech nation route). The hope is to get it and then create a thread that would teach others how to do it but I got rejected on my first application. The plan now is to try again (while addressing the mistake I made in my last application) or pay a lawyer (waste of money as I still have to explain everything to them anyway lol)

Doing the talent visa alone made me realise how invaluable just wise (however annoying he is), Lexus and lagosIMH are for their invaluable contributions to Nairaland (sorry you can’t use this for an endorsement but I appreciate you guys loads for all you’ve done and are still doing on Nairaland.. ok let me add ralphjean before he slaps me lol)

On the global talent visa, did you appeal? Someone told me if you appeal, you have a high chance of success. You don't need to submit additional documents but emphasise what you submitted. I wish you the best.

By the way, most graduate roles starting September 2022 are now open and will start filling up by the end of the year and early next year that's why it is important to start applying now. Your chances are higher now than later.

Check various job boards and apply for a role you like. Some will state that they offer sponsorship while some won't. Just apply and see how it goes. If you are a student, check your school career website, attend job fairs (You will find this on your school's career website), gradcracker.com, totaljobs.com and many more.

Well the UK charges £800 for ILR fast track so £100 for passport fast track is quite reasonable.

I have a question please. If you get to uk on a student visa or let’s say dependant visa. If you get a job offering more than 25k per year, does it give you the leeway to apply for tier 2 visa or the job has to come with sponsorship as wel even if it pays above 25k.

You need a sponsor to apply for tier 2, you cannot apply on your own.
