PoliticsRe: Where Is Our Ibo Presidential Candidate? by duwdu: 9:38pm On Jul 04, 2020
MetaPhysical:
Ok, so straight and direct to the point, this morning I am going to write about political fortune...or misfortune....of Ibos in Nigeria, with its impacts for 2023.

Good morning my people!

First and foremost, let us acknowledge the Yorubas and their gratuitous influence in modelling, shaping and uplifting Ibos in the political history of Nigeria. I say this because in the history of political activism in Nigeria and partisan politicking, Yoruba is the vanguard of social and economic progress in this Nation, whether in the 1800s, the 1900s or the 2000s. Colonialism came to Nigeria through the bombardment of Lagos in the war of agidingbi in 1851. By 1951 Lagos had become the hotbed of political activism and a host to many economic migrants who had come to Lagos to earn a living. Many of them later followed in the footsteps of Yoruba activists who pioneered liberty forums and political action groups that demanded representation in the administration of government. Migrants created ethnic social groups to represent their town affairs in Lagos. Towards independence, many of them ended joining political platforms pioneered by Yorubas. One of such examples is the entry of Ibo town union into NCNC, which was created by Herbert Macauley, a Yoruba. The entry was facilitated by Nnamdi Azikiwe, an Ibo, who later joined NCNC and succeeded Herbertt Macauley after death. On becoming its President Nnamdi Azikiwe turned the erstwhile national party into an Ibo party. Hence the first political party in East was NCNC. Prior to NCNC Ibo had never formed a political platform party for government representation. Their successes in NCNC, while it lasted, is owed to the pioneering work of Yoruba political activism in Lagos and Ibadan. When Yorubas in NCNC realized that their party had lost its nationalism under Azikiwe, and had progressively been turned into an Ibo party they departed, one after the other. Soon after Yoruba departure from NCNC its fortunes changed, the party withered, and could no longer secure the many successes it had before. NCNC became a subordinate partner to NPC, with whom it went into alliance to form government. This was reflected symbolically in the position given to Azikiwe as President of Nigeria, while NPC man, Balewa, held the reins of power in the Pime Ministership.

After the war, in 1979, Azikiwe returned with a new party called NPP. The party came third behind NPN in popular and electoral votes. UPN, a Yoruba party, scored the highest count. NPP had a struggle winning in its own region in East, whereas the Yoruba UPN won every state in West and Bendel and many legislative seats across the nation. UPN victory was challenged in court that its win was not spread across the nation, hence the case of 2/3rd coverage. UPN victory at the polls was overturned and NPN was declared winner. Immediately after, Azikiwe announced a alliance with NPN. Thus NPN/NPP formed ruling government while UPN was opposition government. Inspite of the experience as a ruling government twice, East had nothing to show before or after. Meanwhile Yoruba was the opposition party in both the first and second republic and it was very successful in establishing many social programs and developments in West. One of its legacies that survived till today and doing extremely well is Oodua Investment Corporation. The participation of Ibo in rulership in first and second republic was a misfortune because Ibo gained nothing out of it beside symbolism. North built an oil refinery, created a Northern Development Corporation, created newsprint, and many other tangible assets. Till today East has no development corporation, whether govt sponsored like in North or self-sponsored like in West. While North developed industrial complexes in Kaduna and Kano, and West created industrial townships in its region, the only prominent industrial complex in East was located in Port Harcourt. What has Ibo gained in its political partnership with North in our first two republics? Symbolism. thats all...and even that symbolism was subordinated to North as the default ruler.

Since we started this new phase beginning 1999, PDP has enjoyed unwavering and committed loyalty and surrogateship from Ibo. Yet it continues year after year to secure Ibo alliance and guarantees without offering any substantial gain in return. When is PDP going to make an Ibo the uncontested candidate in a presidential election? By uncontested I mean there will be no primary held. Unanimously declare an Iboman the PDP flag bearer.

I must say that Ibo people themselves are not political jet-setters. If they were the ongoing events in Edo State will play out differently. I must highlight this with precision.

It is obvious that Atiku has been overbearing in PDP. He has activated political groups, he has dispatched PDP governors to engage and bring success to Edo. So we can say Atiku is the helmsman in PDP. Well, in comparison, Atiku has not given to PDP half of what Ibo has committed in money, time, sacrifice. Atiku has not shown interest in 2023 race and he has not endorsed the Ibo aspiration for the position....in fact he has been silent on the matter. So why is Atiku so passionate about Edo win for PDP? Because it adds credit to his sagacity and reinforces belief in his capacity as party leader....a father! If Ibo people are sincere about 2023 presidency, Edo should be their battle...a testing ground. An Iboman should be the one directing affairs of what must happen to get victory for Obaseki. The more PDP wins in SS, SE, the better the chance of an Iboman winning 2023, therefore Ibo has a far more burden of success to win it for PDP than Atiku does. Atiku has defected between parties so many times there is no assurance he will not again defect if he sees better opportunity elsewhere.

Atiku, a Fulani, is at the helm of a party largely cemented with commitments in East, and eyeing forward to a nomination that rightly belongs in South and to the Ibos, meanwhile in APC, Tinubu is also at the helm of affairs. Where is Ibo helmsman, and what party is he leading? We can't find him!

So tell me how an Iboman is going to be candidate for PDP or APC in 2023 when Atiku is already showing moves for PDP in Edo and Tinubu is receiving visiting APC caretaker committees freshly appointed by the president. Where is Iboman?
This write-up may appear to be an attempt to goad some people, but it can only come from a proper thinker, IMHO.

Good luck, everyone!

Tinubu didn't lose and Fayemi never gained anything.

All those chosen from North and South are not in the Fayemi/Elrufai faction.

Buni has always been neutral and he was the first person to publicly admit that there was a crises in APC.

The rest of the acting committee are those that can be sympathetic to Tinubu cause.

Although nothing is certain in politics.
Your head IS correct. Those so-called political "analysts" for ThisDay have not gotten a single major political permutation right since shortly before the 2015, that I can remember.

But oh, well, maybe they'll start getting it right sometimes going forward.

Does this mean Giadom has been technically fired?

Let all the people causing problems in the party be shown the way out please. Oshiomole himself lacks the temperament of a leader during a crisis.

All those making this about Tinubu must understand that Buhari would not be dumb enough to allow rebel governors take control of that party. Once those rebel governors take control, APC is finished. Remember how the national assembly almost messed him up when renegade PDP defectors took control.

PS: Let us also not forget to acknowledge the unseen brains behind the President's recent sensible decisions: Professor Ibrahim Gambari. When Buhari's media team accepted to attend the meeting called by an illegal chairman (Giadom), Itse Sagay was shouting, not knowing that the President had a plan he was going to execute, and neatly was it executed. The element of surprise is very crucial in leadership and I admire this move.
Very sensibly said! I think the fortunes of their party is beginning to rise and turn positive again.

So APC governors are no more Nigeria politicians. By the way, who verify petition and validate them before acting on it. Till today bunch of petitions against Akpabio, Amechi and others will never be acted upon.
Those APC guys you mentioned or have not mentioned, have all been treated or undergoing treatment. Some of them have in fact been sent to jail within the lifespan of this administration. If you expect all thieves to be caught, tried, and their cases disposed of within the two-term life of an administration and via the judicial route, then I'm afraid you're on a long thing.

For me, catching and dealing with a patrimony thief, is better than not catching any at all, or chasing shadows by trying to catch all thieves; the government will have no time for any other business. Let the next administration come in and do its bit, one way or the other. Nothing in life is ever completely fair to all sides.

PoliticsRe: Flashback: PDP Disqualify Governor Timi Sylva From Primaries. by duwdu: 4:50pm On Jun 16, 2020
CilicMarin:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially disqualified the Governor of Bayelsa state, Timipre Sylva, from participating in the state primaries for the governorship elections. The National Working Committee of the PDP today released a statement announcing that the governor, and a few others including Timi Alaibe and TV executive, Ben Bruce, did not make the final list of qualified candidates.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKNOV 13, 2011

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially disqualified the Governor of Bayelsa state, Timipre Sylva, from participating in the state primaries for the governorship elections. The National Working Committee of the PDP today released a statement announcing that the governor, and a few others including Timi Alaibe and TV executive, Ben Bruce, did not make the final list of qualified candidates.

Saharareporters broke the news a few weeks ago revealing that a final decision had been made to prevent the governor from returning to office under the banner of the PDP. However, Sylva vigorously denied our reports and went ahead to engage in bribing PDP officials to reinstate him.

A PDP source told SaharaReporters that the NWC dragged out Mr. Sylva's disqualification to stop him from moving to another party too soon The source stated that Mr. Sylva will be disqualified even if he runs on another party platform.

NWC Press statement below:
The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded the review of the reports of the Screening Committee and Screening Appeal panel for the gubernatorial primaries in Bayelsa State scheduled to hold on the 18th of November 2011.

2. After a thorough review of the two reports, and after a painstaking examination of all the issues raised about each and every aspirant, the NWC has cleared seven out of the 11 aspirants that purchased forms to contest for the primaries. Those who were cleared and shall contest the gubernatorial primaries are the following:

I. Orufa Justine Boloubo
II. Dickson Seriake Henry
III. Enai Christopher Fullpower
IV. Kalango Michael Youppele
V. Francis Amaebi
VI. Ekiyegha Francis Korobido
VII. Austin Febo

3. However, in this last and final batch, four of the aspirants did not scale through the Party screening process and have therefore not been cleared to contest the primaries. Those not cleared are.

I. Alaibe Ndutimi
II. Ben Murray Bruce
III. Timipre Marun Sylva
IV. Igali Godknows Boladet.

4. All Members of the Party, especially stakeholders in Bayelsa State should note that this is the final decision on the status of all aspirants for the forthcoming Primaries. All efforts should now be geared towards mobilizing Party members for the forthcoming primaries and Elections in the State.

5. In view of the forgoing, all those aspirants whose names appear in para 2 above will be dully issued with final Clearance Certificates to enable them stand for the forthcoming primary elections. For the avoidance of doubt, and in line with the provisions of our guidelines for primary elections, no aspirant can or should use a provisional certificate as a basis for unilaterally declaring himself or herself as a candidate of Peoples' Democratic Party for the Gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa State. Even where he or she does so, it is of no value, effect or utility for the primary elections and is therefore redundant.

6. The NWC wishes to reiterate it's commitment towards enforcing discipline within the ranks of the Party at all levels. We shall therefore not hesitate to invoke disciplinary measures on any member who disregards lawful Party directives or who engages in acts capable of undermining the Party's cohesion or initiates and takes any step that could lead to the breaching of public peace.

Wike was in bed with Jonathan and Mama piss when Sylva was disqualified without any valid reason. He didn’t say anything back then but today, he’s making noise and spraying spit all over the place over that the disqualification of Obaseki.

Before anybody can demand justice for Obaseki, they must demand justice for the 14 members-elect of the State House of Assembly who have been denied their legislative seats illegally by Obaseki. They won election just like Obaseki and they deserve to be allowed to perform the constitutional functions that their people elected them to perform.
So apt.

Throwback:
Why must you rub the hypocrisy of PDP on their hurt faces?

This was the time when Jonathan zombies defended every move of PDP, the Federal Government, and the Nigerian military.

Every allegation against the federal government or PDP was considered false, in fact, every opposition was considered a terrorist sympathizer.

Your guess is as good as mine concerning the tribe of those people who would have defended such moves when it happened.

In fact, I will go look for the Nairaland topic that was created then, so we can call out the steadfast hypocrites.

They are the wailing voices in the wilderness who now regard that opposition is good for democracy, and that every allegation against the government is true.

They know themselves and their tribe, and their current agony is enough shame, so I won't shame them any further.
Well said.

Obaseki should not make the mistake of forgetting to write the Party before he declare for another party.
Also we want to see if all his cabinet members will follow him.
What I think may happen is Obaseki submitting his resignation letter to his faction of the APC, which faction cannot ordinarily convey it to the NWC, since it's not recognized.

Could this limbo — if it comes to that — be a legal albatross on Obaseki's neck as he joins another party?

Or Obaseki could simply swallow his pride, submit his resignation letter to the faction recognized by their NWC, and be free of potential legal obstacles and landmines in that regard. His call.

Following his disqualification from the APC Primaries thereby putting an end to his second term bid under that platform, many have perceived his next move will be to defect to the opposition PDP in the State.

Governor Obaseki who had previously insisted he wouldn't walk away from the party, is said to be seriously considering alternatives to the actualisation of his ambition.

He, however, has called for calm from his supporters and stated he will declare his next move after an audience with the President.

Is it iyamo that has been winning elections for PDP in Edinburgh since 1999? U display ur ignorance with so much pride.
No, it wasn't Iyamu, indeed, from 1999 until March, 2015; it was all blatant matchfixing, TBH, and as kindly attested to in-between by Yar'adua, after he was "elected" in that "do or die" election by Obasanjo. However, all that changed from March, 2015 with the introduction of the Card Reader. That measure significantly curtailed blatant rigging, and political contests have since been somewhat more representative of the actual intent and will of voters.

Having said the above, it's not yet Uhuru for elections in Nigeria. Hopefully, the next round of legislation on election reforms, fixes things some more. I think that's the kind of incremental improvements our kind of multicultural society should keep striving for.

Forget Oshio, open your eyes and see the big picture, Obaseki offended his party elders, what of the 14 legislators he refused to swear in? A tree can't make a forest, you people are just shouting Oshio, Kabaka and his boys are waiting for him, all relevant security are under APC, he is a gonner
You're correct, IMHO. Obaseki and his cohorts have tried very hard to blunt out the formidable political forces against them, by always focusing on/singling out Oshiomhole. So far, it appears that strategy has not worked.

You are very apt.
where was he expecting te votes?
Those 14 constituencies he denied will vote against him
and not necessarily because they like whoever APC presents.

If PDP gives him the ticket and wins, APC will
kick him out in the tribunal with the certificate hassles they
used to disqualify him.

As it is Obaseki is a political liability who will distort the balance
sheet of any political party that welcomes him.

Head or tail, Obaseki is a gonner politically.

The lessons here are legeon.
1.Those who live in glass houses dont thorw stones.
2. You never bite the finger that fed you.
3. You dont overshine the master.
4. When you are fighting, know when to retreat.
5.You dont fight too many battles at a time. Obasekis problem
was not only with Ashiomole but many party leaders including
the 14 HAS members he denied their chairs in the house.
6. Money may not matter at times but Omoluabi.
7, Any river that forgets its source will dry up.

I detest ingrates and traitors with a passion which
makes me not to have a drop of tear for Obaseki.

Bye Bye ingrate ingrate-in-Chief.
Correct.

You people should stop making noise about this 2 senators story. There is no way PDP would have won Edo South senatorial district (even the margin was very slim) without Ize-Iyamu.

Guess what, Ize-Iyamu is now in APC. Obaseki can't defeat combination of Oshiomole and Ize-Iyamu in Edo.
True talk, as in, "your head dey dia."

Ambode treatment loading... appeal and go to jail, decamp and go to jail.. decamp to PDP and get disqualified over same result issue.. his best bet is to loot and buy off French or Dominican diplomatic passport and start living in exile

I wonder why some dull ipobians want to force us to believe Obaseki is a kind of a technocrat, the pussy ugly monkey got just 3 credits in WASC and didn't even pass English, to compound his dullness he made Second Class Lower 2.2 in Classic Studies (Studies of greek and European mythology and ways of life) in University of Ibadan without a factual certificate or evidence, I mean he didn't do maths chemistry, biology, programing in university and could only get a 2.2 reading shakes spear novel

Afrivest his company is a stockbroking firm that sells other peoples share, and they are not even credited with any major IPO of any good company

Lucifers only sin against Jehovah was his disloyalty to Gods authority, Lucifer never tried to remove Jehovah from the throne as the case of oshiomole vs obaseki, he never insulted Jehovah in all National Newspaper daily , disloyal people should be made to pay dearly so as to discourage such evil behaviour

.
Hmm... This is quite a lot.

He can't be fielded by PDP. They know the certificate saga will equally work against them if the matter eventually goes to court. One thing is clear though, Obaseki will prefer to be succeeded by PDP rather than Oshiomhole's APC.
Good thinking. I hope he has some degree of self-restraint left to help him not fall for the temptation of making his own state further ungovernable, though, otherwise he'll just dig himself deeper into his political-cum-busines grave.

Obaseki has shown that it really doesn't take much to be state governor in Nigeria. Even a Class Captain in the 1970s would have done better. What an "unformed" adult thou art, Godwin! To think that you had all the chances in the world to make peace, but you chose to listen to Oyegun, the man on whose head APC nearly exploded because of his cluelessness!
True talk. Odigie-Oyegun himself admitted in a recent interview, that Obaseki cannot win APC's gubernatorial ticket if the direct voting method was adopted for the party's primaries. Simple.
