NiyiOmoIyunade: Perfecto!
It would seem you are in a good place then.
Be aware though that gassing voltage is about 14.4v at the 25°C reference - if you are not deep discharging your batteries then you may not need to go as high as 14.6v.
Charging a battery properly is a fine art akin to balancing on the point of a needle - some finnagling may be required before you hit the sweet spot.
You should troubleshoot why your voltage sense cables appear to be giving incorrect readings at the inverter/solar charger. Do you have temperature compensation as well? If not you may try for 29v actual measured voltage during absorb - unnecessary gassing when charging at high voltages may appear to give you higher battery capacity in the short run but in the long run will shorten your battery life as the battery dries out quickly especially when combined with high charge current.
You need to find that sweet spot that gives you the best bang for buck - not to say you are not already there but just laying out the guiding principles. Indeed, I have a temperature sensing cable as well, but the CC is not picking up that up properly, either. So I guess I do have my further work cut out for me w.r.t. the CC or set up. Thanks for your words of wisdom and the set of best practices; I'll soak them in, for sure. Much appreciated. ........ P34c3 ..... ... |

NiyiOmoIyunade: It appears to me that you have effectively moved your absorb voltage from 14.1v to 14.6v per 12v battery if I go with your trusted multimeter readings.
All would be well provided you are within the manufacturer recommended temperature compensated absorb voltage range for your AGM battery type in which case 14.6v at 30°C would imply your battery manufacturer allowed a 14.1 to 14.8v absorb voltage range at the 25°C temperature reference (methinks Quanta uses 27°C as the reference).
My point is that your current absorb voltage setpoint at 14.6v may be too high for an AGM battery especially if you bring temperature compensation into the picture - please check and revert - also what battery brand do you use?
I am not sure I fully trust your Etekcity temperature probe - not sure if they are renowned for their accuracy - though the weather has been fair in Lekki in the last few months, I expect us to have crossed the 30°C mark by now. I will check what ambient temperature is when I get home today (I expect your battery temperature to trend around ambient except you have implemented special measures to cool them) Thanks for replying, and sorry I looked away too long. My Ritar RA12-105F's allow for 14.4-15V Absorb/Equalization and 13.6-13.8V Float, respectively, at 25°C +-5°C. (Snapshot attached.) About an hour ago, the ETEKCITY read 29.3°C on the body of the battery bank where it's usually most warm. (Snapshot attached.) The ambient (the floor around the area,) was at 27.5°C. Although my system is indoor, it's positioned such that there's a stream of outside air/breeze in from one side of the house, over the installation, and out an [almost] opposite side. I think my batteries are hardly warm to the touch chiefly for that reason. Eventually, I'll have to have a way of calibrating the ETEKCITY, or get a more high-end probe when the come comes to become. rajo4real: Apart from hiring professionals, you should also have basic idea how an inverter solar installation works.
It's a daily cycle of recharging, discharging and proper load management. Once you get your calculations right, you won't have issues.
Most problems of solar installation is design. Once your design is poorly sized, you will never get good result. for example how do you expect a 150watt panel recharge a highly discharged 200AH battery within a day?
I have been using my setup for almost 4 years and my batteries still fire strong.

pranil: I agree for four batteries the inverter is probably 5 KW for 5 KW at least 35 or better 50 mm2.
Can you detail the inverter.CC make model, please
My guess is the batteries are not getting correct voltage due to cable loss. Does the inverter CC have voltage compensation and direct voltage measurement otherwise the batteries may be getting undercharged? a regular undercharging will prevent them from absorb stage
A simple test will be to measure the voltage at battery terminals while under full charging current ( near the end of charging) and check with manufacturers spec.
If lower you need to raise charger ( inverter/CC) setpoint Whoa... the bit in bold+italics is in fact what I've been practicing... I happened to have noticed that, with my PCM60X CC manually and properly set-up for charging my AGM batteries: 1.) With the recommended and supplied Battery Voltage-Sensing cable connected, 29.2V (@24V nominal) on the CC actually reads only 28.2V on my VIL Power Star-Light 3KW inverter, 28.2V on a clamp multi-meter, and 28.0V on my proper multi-meter which I trust more because the accuracy of it's readings has been favorably compared to those on Flukes. I ascertained these discrepancies consistently over one or two charge cycles. 2.) Without the BVS cables, the CC @ 28.6V would give 28.2V, 28.2V, and 28.0V respectively as listed under 1., above. This indicated to me, that the CC was potentially undercharging my batteries! So, 3.) I've settled to NO LONGER use the BVS cable, and for the CC maximum absorb charge @ 29.7V; the other measurements now register max 29.4V, 29.4, and 29.1-2V, respectively. I calibrated the CC's Float charging parameters accordingly. My batteries are maintained at under 30 degrees Centigrade almost always, as measured with an ETEKCITY Lasergrip 774 Infrared Thermometer. If I'm correct in my above steps, then many thanks to the lessons and confidence imparted on me on this forum and elsewhere, otherwise I welcome all corrections, advice, and criticisms. Unblockable: My attention has been drawn to a thread in the homepage with the headline "Where Are The Senators?: Channels TV Info-graphic" purportedly detailing the number of Senators the APC and PDP both have. The info there is incorrect, untrue and an attempt to misinform the public.
First, in the South South, it shows that APC has five Senators while the PDP has thirteen. That's untrue. APC has two Senators from Rivers, one from Akwa Ibom, one from Cross River, one from Delta and one from Edo State. All together, APC has six Senators in the South South but I can see five on the list. Do you guys need a soothsayer to tell you that the list is flopped? Lest i forget, PDP has twelve.
Now, in the Southeast, they claimed APC has two Senators from the zone while PDP has eleven. That's also false. In Ebonyi State, the Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District, Sunday Ogbuoji has defected to the APC from PDP. In Anambra State, APC has Senator Andy Uba. APC also has two Senators from Anambra State. They are Ben Uwajumogu and Hope Uzodinma. It's now obvious APC has four Senators in the Southeast as against the two reported by Channels TV. PDP has ten while APGA has one from Anambra State, Senator Victor Umeh representing Anambra Central.
In the Southwest, the twelve allocated to APC is right. But the four allocated to PDP is untrue. PDP has two Senators from Ekiti State, the one they have in Ogun, Buruji Kashamu is no longer with them as he has been on suspension. Tejuoso that also claimed to have joined them in Ogun State has since gone back to APC. The two Senators that left APC in Oyo State defected to ADC. They have Senator Adeleke in Osun State. So all together, APC has twelve, PDP has three, ADC has two while one presently has no party.
In the Northwest, Mohammed Shittu joined the PDP in Jigawa State, Ibrahim Danbaba joined in Sokoto while Suleiman Hunkuyi joined in Kaduna. Danjumah Laah is Kaduna South is also a PDP Senator. PDP also has Kwankwaso from Kano. All in all, out of the twenty one Senatorial Districts in the zone, PDP has five Senators from, APC has fifteen while there's a vacant seat in Katsina after the death of an APC Senator. A by-election would hold there next week Saturday. As reported by Channels, APC has fourteen while PDP has six. That's also a lie.
In the Northeast, Channels TV claimed PDP has seven Senators while APC has nine. That's untrue. Two Senators recently joined the PDP in Bauchi State, the one that left APC in Adamawa, Senator Nyako, joined the ADC not PDP. PDP had one Senator in Gombe before Nafada joined them. So as it stands, they have two in Gombe and two in Taraba. All together, PDP has six Senators in the Northeast, APC has ten, ADC has one while one seat in Bauchi once occupied by an APC Senator is vacant.
In the North Central, PDP has all the three Senators from Kogi, all the three from Kwara, two from Nasarawa, two from Plateau and two from Benue and one from Abuja while APC has six from this zone so Channels is right on this.
Now, combining all the senators from all the zone, it clearly shows that APC has 53 Senators, PDP has 49 Senators, ADC has three, APGA has one, two vacant seat and one Senator without a party.
Breakdown!!
Southeast: PDP - 10, APC - 4 and APGA - 1 South South: PDP - 12 and APC - 6 Southwest: PDP - 3, APC - 12, ADC - 2 and one without a party. North Central: PDP - 13 and APC - 6 Northeast: PDP - 6, APC - 10, ADC - 1 and one vacant seat. Northwest: PDP - 5, APC - 15 and one vacant seat. I just de gbadun this kind of fact-based and decent record keeping. May your brain be continuously blessed, Unblockable, even with any human imperfections that might have crept in the original post as locked on the Home page. Kudos. ........ P34c3 ..... ... |

Kaduna APC Chairman Backtracks, Says Shehu Sani on indefinite Suspension August 2, 2018Kemi Busari https://i2.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2018/02/033A4382.jpg?w=800&ssl=1Senator Shehu Sani The chairman of Kaduna State All Progressives Congress (APC), Emmanuel Jekada, has backtracked on his earlier stance on indefinite suspension of Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani. Mr Jekada in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES Thursday evening said the lawmaker remains on suspension. The statement is a direct negation of his initial stance. Mr Jekada speaking with PREMIUM TIMES hours earlier had said he is not aware of a latest statement by the APC in Mr Sani’s ward that he is still on suspension. “No. I’m not aware of that and the party has a procedure of doing things,” he said on phone. “As far as I’m concerned, I’ve not seen that letter. If there is anything of that nature, it should come from to the party, not from the newspaper,” he added. The chairman then said he had set up a committee to reconcile aggrieved members of the party. In the evening statement however, Mr Jekada, said his latest record has shown that Mr Sani is on indefinite suspension. “As the newly elected chairman of the party in Kaduna State, records available to me has confirmed, that Senator Shehu Sani has been on indefinite suspension since 2017 by the party leadership of Tudun Wada Ward 6, Kaduna South Local Government Area of Kaduna State. “His indefinite suspension is still on and valid. “A media campaign cannot change the valid position of duly constituted party organs,” the statement said. Mr Sani had refused to leave the APC as widely expected, saying he was prevailed upon by leaders such as APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole and ex-Lagos governor Bola Tinubu not to defect. Mr Sani was among APC senators that met President Buhari on Tuesday. He has been having a running battle with the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, also an ally of Mr Buhari in the APC. The senator had earlier rejected the suspension by APC in his ward saying it was illegal. DTaj: You are a “political illiterate”!
The only two persons who helped APC win among your long list in 2015 were Kwankwaso and Bukola Saraki. Let me address your ignorant list one after the other:
1. Kwankwaso: Yes, I agree.
2. Saraki: Yes, I agree.
3. Ortom: Capital No!
Ortom was a political orphan in PDP who finished in the 3rd position in PDP Benue Governorship primaries even as Minister of State for Trade and Investment under Jonathan. The two reasons he was elected as APC Governor in 2015 was the influence of Benue politics grandmaster, Senator George Akume (a former Governor), and the determination of Benue people to prevent outgoing Governor Gabriel Suswam from imposing his stooge as Governor under PDP.
Ortom cannot win his ward in any election. His major plank of hope in 2019 is hiding under the Fulani herdsmen attacks to curry favour and sympathy.
4. Tambuwal: Capital No!
Tambuwal was just like ‘political orphan’ Ortom in 2015. It was the political grandmaster of Sokoto, Wammako (popularly called “Alu”) who gave an easy ticket to Tambuwal after he had issues with Jonathan as Speaker of the House of Representatives. Wammako pleaded for formidable candidates to step down for Tambuwal, whose influence was never beyond his tiny Tambuwal federal constituency.
5. Hunkuyi and Shehu Sani: Capital no! This is the most laughable on your funny list!
Hunkuyi has a tiny base in Zaria, which is El-Rufai’s home base that had always voted Buhari almost 95% until Ramalan Yero, another Zaria man, was voted as PDP Governor in 2011.
Hunkuyi cannot deliver his polling booth today.
Shehu Sani is merely an activist from the June 12 saga with almost zero political capital or base. He was one of the many Senators and Reps members who got elected on the wave of Buhari’s huge popularity and what was called “APC Sak” (ie “everything APC”) in the North (especially North West and North East) in 2015! He can’t win an election on his street in Kaduna!
Anyone who knows as little as 30% about Nigerian politics should know that among these states, APC will comfortably get 40% in Kwara (reduced from 80% based on Bukola Saraki’s influence); Kano will still massively vote Buhari in spite of Kwankwaso. The only state on your list Buhari may lose outright is Benue, only due to his handling of the Benue killings- meaning a lot of sentimental votes will go to PDP.
Overall, everything considered, in my view, Buhari will win a 2nd term and the margin will be wider than the 2 million he got over Jonathan in 2015...
Facts, not social media sentiments... That's a pragmatic analysis cum view you have there, DTaj. Well put. ........ P34c3 ..... ... |

NiyiOmoIyunade: On top of what Oga BigRovar has said, may I also add that if you use the battery in this way, discharging it all the way to the end, it will surely die a early death.
A 12v 200Ah battery at the top of it's game has about 2.4kWH of energy stored in it - a 200watts discharge is effectively C12 and you want a C20 discharge rate so as not to stress your average battery - by C20, I mean a discharge rate or load that will need to run for at least 20hours before your battery is fully spent.
So for this scenario, ideally you want to either drop your load to 100w and run this for 12 hours to get your battery to 50% DoD or add one more battery to make 2 units of 12v 200Ah then you can safely run your 200watt load for 12hours and comply with both the max load and depth of discharge rules and thereby secure best service life for your battery bank.
