Let's take a quick look at the attempted coup against Niger's President Mohamed Bazoum.

It all started on Wednesday, the 26th of July, 2023, when the Niger plotters cited escalating insecurity in their takeover speech, and the process eventually led to the overthrow of the current President, Mohamed Bazoum.

According to the Army spokesperson, Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane, the defense and security forces have decided to put an end to the regime the citizens are familiar with.

In his words, "The defense and security forces have decided to put an end to the regime the citizens are familiar with. This follows the continuous deterioration of the security situation and the bad social and economic management." Because of this, the country's borders have been closed, and a nationwide curfew is in place.

In case you are not aware, this is not the first time this has happened in Niger. In March 2021, a military unit tried unsuccessfully to seize the presidential palace days before Bazoum, who had just been elected, was due to be sworn in.

However, the successful revolt on Wednesday has raised concerns for the so-called "coup belt" area. Going down memory lane, this is the sixth successful coup in West Africa since 2020, following two each in Guinea and its neighbor Burkina Faso.

The past administrations in those countries were also criticized by the usurpers for failing to stop the tsunami of instability that has swept the Sahel since 2012.

Three of Lizzo’s former dancers are suing the “About damn time” performer, as well as Big Grrrl Big Touring and Shirlene Quigley, for allegedly subjecting them to endure weight-shaming, sexually denigrating behavior and pressuring them to participate in disturbing sex shows.

Eventually, Lizzo allegedly fired Davis “on the spot” after learning Davis had recorded one of their meetings even though it was to have “a copy of the notes” the artist provided.

Over the weekend, video of Cardi B hurling a mic into a Las Vegas crowd exploded across social media and gossip sites. Footage showed that the rapper was interrupted mid-song by a splash of water from the crowd, and she then retaliated by throwing her microphone toward the audience.

The day after Cardi B’s show, The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed a report on Monday, saying the alleged victim reported she was “struck by an item that was thrown from the stage.”

“B----, I’m dying,” Cardi B said before the incident as she fanned herself. Wearing a bright orange jumpsuit and a sheer orange wrap, she then strolled across the stage, her arms in the air, as fans splashed her with water from their cups. “That s--- feels good!” Temperatures in Las Vegas that day peaked at 112 degrees.

The incident, which was caught on video by multiple concert goers, took place as Cardi B was in the middle of performing “Bodak Yellow.”

After apparently being splattered with a fan’s drink, Cardi B flung her microphone in the direction of the fan. Security personnel at the concert escorted someone out of the crowd.

On Tik-Tok, one person posted a clip on Sunday claiming to have been hit by Cardi B’s microphone.

“When I’m the one who gets smoked by the microphone but didn’t throw the drink,” the user wrote in the video titles. “I’m bruised and sore” they added in the caption. It’s not clear whether the TikTok user is the same one who filed a police report over the weekend. They did not respond to a request for comment by press time.

Cardi B did not seem particularly repentant about the incident. After the fan was escorted out, she resumed the show: twerking, laughing and shouting out her lyrics — sans mic.

Popular influencer, Caramel Plugg has reportedly arrested a vendor who called her out for wearing her cloth without giving her credit or tag.
The influencer was allegedly given free clothes by a vendor in order for her to tag her, but Caramel Plugg instead gave credit to another brand

The firestorm of criticism erupted just days after Caramel faced heavy backlash for not disclosing the name of a Nigerian brand she wore to an event, despite openly acknowledging the foreign designers of her shoe and bag. This lack of transparency raised eyebrows and triggered concerns about ethical practices in influencer marketing.

Former United States Air Force intelligence officer David Grusch had earlier made claims that the country is in possession of alien aircraft. Grusch on Wednesday made the same claims while testifying to the US Congress under oath, also hinting that the country may be in possession of alien bodies.

The session was held by the House Oversight Committee, which covers US national security and foreign affairs.

He said he led Defence Department efforts to analyse reported UAP sightings and was informed of a programme aimed at collecting and reconstructing crashed spacecraft.

This programme had been running for decades and was concealed by the US, he said.

Asked at a Congress hearing on UFOs whether the "pilots who piloted this craft" were also found, he said "biologics came with some of the recoveries, yeah".

He was then asked if the biologics were "human or non-human".

"Non-human", he replied, adding: "That was the assessment of people with direct knowledge of the programme I talked to, that are currently still on the programme."

He said he prefers to use the term "non-human" rather than alien or extraterrestrial.

Mr Grusch, who said he has not personally spotted a UAP, told the panel that he knows of "multiple colleagues" who were injured by UAPs, citing interviews with 40 witnesses over a four-year period.

Asked whether the US government had information about extraterrestrial life, Mr Grusch claimed it was likely the US had been aware of "non-human" activity since the 1930s.


He also goes on to claim that he has been denied access to secret government UFO programs and that he knows of “people who have been harmed or injured” during the government’s efforts to conceal UFO information.

The Pentagon (Department of Defense) has denied Grusch’s claims in a statement. Spokesperson Sue Gough said that investigators have not discovered “any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently,” according to AP.

When US congresswoman Nancy Mace asked Grusch whether any of the alien crafts’ pilots’ bodies were recovered, Grusch said, “As I have stated publicly already, biologics came with some of these recoveries. Mace probed further, asking whether the biologics were human or non-human. “Non-human, and that was the assessment of people with direct knowledge of the program that I talked to,” answered Grusch.

The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele, has been re-arrested by the Department of State Service DSS at the premises of the Federal High Court, Lagos.

Recall that DSS earlier in the day, arraigned Emefiele on a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms.

Trial judge, Justice Nicolas Oweibo, had granted Emefiele bail in the sum of N20 million and a surety in like sum.

The judge had also signed a warrant for his remand at Ikoyi prison, Lagos, pending when he perfects his bail.

Daudu raised the alarm about the DSS’s alleged plan to re-arrest the embattled former CBN governor despite the bail granted him by the court.

As the defendant’s lawyers were trying to perfect his bail conditions, a mild drama played out within the court premises between DSS operatives who are fully hooded and NCS over who will take custody of the embattled CBN boss.

The secret police challenged the prison officials who moved to take Emefiele into custody and it led to a tussle.

Two Hilux vehicles belonging to the two government agencies were directly positioned near the entrance of the courtroom.

The prison officials then exited the court in their vehicle and the DSS reportedly took Emefiele out of the courtroom into their waiting vehicle.
