The Cable, in its report on August 15, shared insights from sources within the presidency that unveiled this potential move.

While no definitive decision has been reached, the proposal is said to be a prominent topic of discussion. This consideration by the president comes at a time when Nigerians are grappling with the harsh economic challenges brought about by the elimination of the petrol subsidy in May 2023.

A source from the presidency shed light on the situation, sharing that the current actual consumption of petrol in the nation has become evident following the subsidy removal on President Tinubu's inauguration day. As a result, there is now a capacity to regulate the amount expended on subsidy.

The removal of the petrol subsidy has led to an enduring upward trajectory in the prices of commodities, goods, and services across Nigeria—a nation striving to overcome economic struggles. Earlier in August, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) orchestrated a nationwide protest as a response to these adverse effects.

During the protest, NLC members occupied the main complex of the national assembly to voice their discontent with the difficulties imposed on Nigerians due to the elimination of the petroleum subsidy. The protest was eventually suspended after labor leaders engaged in discussions with President Tinubu at the Aso Villa.

Uriel Oputa, the second evicted BBNaija ‘All Stars’ contestant, has disclosed that one of the housemates has a bad mouth odor.

During her media rounds following her eviction from the house on Sunday, Uriel revealed this to Naija FM.

She mentioned that one of the roommates has a foul mouth odor while discussing about her experience in Big Brother’s house.

She refused to reveal the person's identity when the radio hosts pressed her, stating that she would not do so.

This seems unfair when uriel had more votes than Seyi but she was still evicted

In an alarming incident early Monday morning in Lagos State's Ojota area, irate soldiers brutally attacked a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer, leaving him battered and injured.

Eyewitnesses reported that around 8 a.m., a group of eight soldiers launched a vicious assault on the officer, who pleaded for mercy as he was beaten relentlessly. A video of the incident, which quickly went viral, captured the disturbing scene as the officer was overwhelmed by his attackers.

This violent episode appears to be a response to a previous altercation where LASTMA officers allegedly assaulted a soldier in the same Ojota area just the week before.

In the latest incident, the soldiers, armed with weapons, assaulted the LASTMA officer using punches and wooden planks before abruptly leaving the scene.

The injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. In light of the situation, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, confirmed the incident and shared that the higher authorities of the army are already intervening in the matter.

There's this Nigerian music video director named TG Omori, or ThankGod Omori Jesam, who's been quite open about his doubts concerning democracy.

He's got this strong view that in Africa, where poverty plays a big role, those hungry for power can easily buy votes and manipulate the system. He even thinks that the old-school monarchical way of governing would be a better fit for us. He shared all of this during a chat on the Zero Conditions podcast.

He said, "How do I feel about Nigeria? Nigeria is a jungle. I did not vote. I was in SA [South Africa during the elections]. I intentionally didn't vote.

"I don't believe in democracy. We were supposed to be led by kings. I feel like democracy is a freaking scam in the sense that superrich people can always buy their way through it. Not around the world but in
Africa. As long as hunger is still a tool then democracy will aways have a price."

The video director said he has witnessed people selling their votes when he was younger.

Big Brother Naija housemate, Uriel Oputa, has been evicted from the ‘all-stars’ season she was evicted after two out of three members of the show’s jury voted against her. (Uriel 2:1 Seyi)

The bottom three housemates happened to be Tolanibaj, Uriel, and Seyi.

Tolanibaj had the highest number of votes, thereby leaving the jury to choose who goes home between Uriel and Seyi.

The jury subsequently settled for Uriel and Seyi who had the lowest number of votes but Seyi got saved just like what happened last week.

Uriel, who first appeared in the ‘See Gobe’ edition of the reality TV show, had lamented that she felt isolated from the show: “I don’t even know who I am again. I’m lost,” she said in a chat with CeeC and Frodd

The jury member that deliberated on her eviction include Teddy A, from ‘Double Wahala’ season, Diana, an ex-housemate from ‘Level Up’ edition, and Laycon — winner of the ‘Lockdown’ season.

All the housemates were up for eviction except Ike Onyema who won the Head of House game last week, and Frodd who got the most ‘pardon me’

Meanwhile, Ike after he won the Head of House last week, chose Cee-C, Mercy, Seyi and Venita as his best friends for the week (BFFs).

Millions of Barbie fans have been celebrating the movie by showing up to their local movie theaters dressed in elaborate pink outfits and sharing photos to social media.

Well, one 22-year-old woman took to the popular Am I the Asshole subreddit to share her story in a now-deleted post and asked if she's an asshole for canceling a Barbie movie date with her boyfriend because he refused to wear pink?

The Barbie movie means a lot to me, l've been looking forward to this movie for so long. I've asked my boyfriend [who is 27 years old] to go to the cinema with me, both dressed in pink. It would show that he supports me, and it'd just be fun.

He agreed to watch the movie with me, but not in pink. I told him wearing pink is minimum effort, [but] he says minimum effort is him coming along to the movie.

I wanted to make a whole event out of it, take pics by the booth, etc. The pics would be for our eyes only, not social media... All of my friend's boyfriends did it, and even my dad and brother would... I'm not asking for a lot here, just a pink shirt or something. Actress Deby Oscar has sounded an alarm as her sister's alleged abusive ex-husband, Chizoba Onyekachi Ibeneme, is preparing for his third marriage. Reportedly, the UK-based social worker from Anambra State is scheduled to marry his fiancé on August 11.

In a conversation with Instablog9ja, Deby revealed, "Chizoba wed Christina in 2017, a British citizen who later discovered his previous marriage. Despite being pregnant, she endured heartbreak as he claimed his first marriage was a mistake and his first wife fled abroad. However, Christina soon realized the truth behind the first wife's departure.

He subjected her to physical and mental abuse, a secret she concealed for months until I witnessed it firsthand during a visit. Christina wept as she recounted enduring months of abuse over trivial matters, such as greetings, meal timings, or phone responses.

A family meeting was convened, during which his mother astonishingly asserted that a man beating his wife was normal, sharing that her husband and sons frequently beat her.

Numerous marriage counselors attempted to help, but each gave up after a few sessions due to Chizoba's refusal to admit any wrongdoing.

Christina even accommodated him in her home and surrendered her vehicles. After their child's birth, he exploited the situation to secure a two-year citizenship and then suggested an open marriage, which she declined. Fed up with his beatings and infidelity, Christina eventually evicted him.

Throughout the marriage, she lived in fear due to his stalking and threats. After seeing the photo of his impending wedding, I felt compelled to speak out. I want to ensure that this new woman doesn't endure abuse. Chizoba's previous wives also have stories to share."

Nollywood actor, Femi Adebayo‘s movie titled ‘Jagun Jagun’ (The Warrior), which premiered on Netflix today, 10, August, shows that the Yoruba movie industry has really stepped up its game with movie productions.

The young man, a character played by Lateef Adedimeji, was determined to become a mighty warrior, and he joined the elite army, encountering the wrath of the maniacal warlord (Femi Adebayo) and the love of a woman.

Ogundiji is threatened and upset by this and decides to set Gbotija on a path of destruction by giving him three deadly tests under the guise of testing him for promotion.

BBNaija All Stars housemate, Venita, caused a buzz online after she spilt messy details about Pere on the show.

It all started when Venita and Pere were involved in a heated argument over their wager task, and it led to her talking about him to the Head of House, Ike.

According to the mother of two, she is fine with getting a strike because of Pere. She explained that he is a whole “55-year-old man that got on a plane with his Soul-Glo hair and zero edges to come inside Big Brother house when he couldn’t even buy his ticket.”

Not stopping there, Venita claimed Pere is fond of sending unsolicited photos of his private parts to women and how he claims not to chase people’s wives when everybody knows what he does for a living.

Venita went ahead to call Pere a bittered soul, and she also called on her fans to drag Pere and his whole family because he insulted her father when she did not insult him.

Simisola Kosoko aka Simi has detailed how pregnancy and childbirth affected her sight quite negatively.

She explained having her first child, Adejare brought a number of changes to her body.

She said the one complication that arose during her pregnancy for her daughter was a sight defect.she began to notice that her eyesight was deteriorating. Though she claimed that she was almost sure that her eyesight was 20/20 before the pregnancy, she began to notice that she was basically seeing double at some point and went to get her eyes checked in a hospital.

The doctors concluded during her visit three months back that she would need glasses to aid her vision from then on and she even mentioned that she has been notified that the glasses were ready for her to pick up.

In her words, Simi said:
“I have a little bit of sob story, my daughter is 3 years old. Since I gave birth to her, my eyes have not been the same. I feel like I had 20/20 vision before I got pregnant, well not anymore. My eyesight has gone on an excursion underground.

"Three months ago, I was like something is not tallying here, it’s like I’m seeing double. So I went for an eye scan and the Doctor said that I need glasses, I got a message a few days ago that my glasses are ready”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rapper Tory Lanez is expected to be sentenced on Tuesday for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet three years ago, which the star says has left her struggling emotionally ever since.

Megan testified during the trial that Lanez had fired the gun at the back of her feet and shouted for her to dance as she walked away from an SUV in which they had been riding in summer 2020. The pair had left a party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills home.

“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” Megan said in a statement read by Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta during Monday’s all-day session. “Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”

The hip-hop star, who testified during the trial, said she struggled with whether she would appear to give the statement in person, but said she “simply could not bring myself to be in a room with Tory again.”

She asked that her absence not be taken as a sign of indifference, and urged Judge David Herriford to issue a stiff sentence.

Prosecutors are asking a judge to hand down a 13-year sentence to the 31-year-old Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson. Lanez was convicted of three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Lawyers for Lanez said in a sentencing memo suggested that he acted due to his childhood trauma that he should get only probation and and be released from jail to enter a residential substance abuse program. They plan to appeal his conviction.

Several issues remain to be debated and decided before sentencing.

The Senate has been hit by controversy over the screening of Festus Keyamo, a ministerial nominee.

President Tinubu had earlier sent a list of 28 ministerial nominees, followed by a supplementary list of 19 last Wednesday to the Senate for screening and, thereafter, on Friday, added Keyamo from Delta State.

The name of Maryam Shetty from Kano was removed and replaced with Mariya Mahmoud.The President also adds Festus Keyamo as a ministerial nominee.

The Senate will today confirm the ministerial nominees forwarded to it for screening and subsequent confirmation by President Bola Tinubu.

However,Confusion arose in the Chamber during a session where Senator Bamidele Opeyemi, the Senate leader, proposed a motion. Prior to the chaos, the nominee was asked to explain his qualifications and reasons for becoming a Minister in Nigeria.

Senator Darlington Nwokocha from the Labour Party then pointed out the nominee's constitutional violations while he was Minister of State for Employment, Labour, and Productivity, mentioning how he blocked the Reps Committee from carrying out its oversight function on the sum of N52 billion released to his Ministry.

Senator Nwokocha moved to postpone Keyamo's screening according to parliamentary rules, a motion seconded by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe. Amid the commotion, the Senate President decided to move the session to a private discussion, and the nominee was escorted out by the Sergent-At-Arms.

Following President Bola Tinubu’s promise to fix the national refineries, a key demand of labour, among other commitments, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), yesterday, agreed to suspend their nationwide protest and return to the negotiating table with the federal government on measures to cushion the effects of the removal of petrol subsidy on Nigerians.

In Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, workers took to the streets, chanting “Tinubu allow us to breathe”, and other songs to denounce the petrol subsidy removal and the consequent economic hardship.

Speaking while meeting with the leadership of the organised labour centre at State House, Abuja, Tinubu gave his commitment to the labour leaders that the Port Harcourt refineries would start production by December. He said this would be after completion of the ongoing rehabilitation contract between Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Italian firm, Maire Tecnimont SpA.

The president assured the labour leaders that he would continue to work for the best interest of Nigeria, while pleading with them to join hands with him to birth a better and economically buoyant country.

According to a release issued on Wednesday evening by Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, Mr Dele Alake, consequent upon the discussion with Tinubu and consideration of all the issues put forward by the labour movement, the labour leaders resolved to stop further protest.

They opted for further constructive engagement with the government to resolve all outstanding issues as they affected the working people and Nigerians in general.

The interventions by the president and the National Assembly came after thousands of workers, led by NLC and TUC, protested on Wednesday in major cities across the country.

A medical doctor, Dr. Vwaere Diaso, Tuesday, died at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, after an elevator she took crashed.

According to findings by our correspondent, the hospital elevator that killed the late Diaso crashed from the 10th floor to the ground floor.

It was also gathered that the late doctor was rushed to the emergency ward of the hospital for treatment but eventually died.

A colleague of Diaso, who craved told our correspondent that the elevator had malfunctioned several times before now.
“On multiple occasions, the elevator has stopped while we were inside. And there’s no maintenance,” he said

He also told our correspondent that the hospital management was aware of the poor state of the elevator but failed to act.

He stated that since the elevator started malfunctioning, the staff of the hospital started reducing the number of people in it every time to avoid congestion.

“Once you open the elevator and see two people already, you just have to wait for the next batch.”

It was faulty and they knew about it. That’s why we’re not going to take this,” he stated.

He disclosed further that the late Diaso had just two weeks left to the completion of her housemanship at the hospital, noting that she was a "very diligent house officer"

The National Medical Association has gone on an indefinite strike until there is justice served.

Famous Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has addressed the controversies surrounding his son, Yul's polygamous marriage and issues with Judy Austin. Pete expressed his views in a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo.

According to Pete Edochie through a proverb, Yul brought it all on himself the second he brought ‘infested’ Judy Austin into his home.

In his words, “He who goes to the farm and gets ant-infested firewoods (amongst all the good firewoods in the farm) shouldn’t be surprised when Lizards start paying him a visit,” he said in part.

In a loose translation, “Yul brought in a foreign woman into the family, and by so doing, he invited all the lows, backwardness, pain, insults and so on into his life.”

Meanwhile according to reports, May Yul Edochie, the gorgeous wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has launched a N100 million lawsuit against his second wife, Judy Austin.

Judy is being sued by the mother of three, who has filed a petition for the dissolution of her marriage to Yul, for having an affair with her husband.

According to sources, when May filed for divorce from Yul, she also filed for adultery with her spouse against Judy.

According to the report, Yul and Judy are not legally married, despite portraying themselves as husband and wife on social media. Yul cannot legally marry anyone until May and Yul are officially divorced.

May is reportedly seeking N100 million as damages for the affair which has cost her a lot.

The report added that Judy and Yul, who are aware of the petitions are dodging it.
