This is not the first time or second time but numerous times that Ibo leaders under the apex socio cultural group Ohanaeze has insulted and denigrated our cherished institutions. Insulting an Oba tops it! After our Oba the next authority is our Orishas. We will not wait for you to insult them. We thetefore are putting restrictions on you to blockade your pride in Yorubaland. We have heard you, going forward you will feel us.
Your Oba made a genocidal speech and deserves all that is coming to him.

We do no want a genocide in Nigeria induced by an Oba that cannot bridle his tongue.

You are wrong based on the context you throw your point.

First only Lagos Island used to be federal capital, not the mainland. The movement of the capital to abuja automatically reverse lagos island back to its former status just like in the case of calabar and lokoja.

Let them move the capital to onitsha today, will you people allow other tribes to do half of what you are doing now or you will go and drag Abuja with the true native...?
What exactly are you allowing us to do in our country.

Lagos natives didn't do that either. A traditional ruler did and his action has been condemned several times. Since when did one person represent an entire tribe or ethnic group? Even if he was a representative, a public and humble apology has been made by both individuals and political figures.

We have apologized for what another person said. Not once, not twice. Do we really need to go on and on over this matter? For how long?

Personally, I don't expect Igbos to be moved by threats.

Can we just move one already and stop this Lagos-ownership baseless debate?
If the Oba of Lagos the paramount traditional ruler of Lagos does not represent a people then who does?

Yes he is human and can err, but since he is human, he should also be able to apologize.

For his subjects to now throw their weight behind him and say that he is above apology then they also share in his short comings.

A yoruba people shld not attack igbo people physically, but the oba of lagos and lagos state govt shld b strict on tax collection and increase their tax rate. Stop all illegal trading they are involved in, then they won't interfere in ur state issue or insult ur oba no matter what he has done. For ifeanyi and others like him shld not be giving any opportunity or contract from lagos govt.
Get an education.
Tax collection is the duty of the government.

Nobody is acting funny instead the hosted are.
I am glad u mentioned the issue of having families abroad. Assuming someone is my family abroad, will he try nonsense with a common immigration officer let alone a Mayor? If someone abroad became a threat to his host, will he not be deported? Let a Nigerian go to USA and start making mouth just because he has business in the US and enrich d US economy and see what happens. When authority in US talk, he better shut up or risk deportation. 1st rule of Power: don't abuse ur host.
Hatred and anger kills slowly.
I don't know who and who were sent back to their land by Fashola. But it is the reason why they are now working against the government believing that's the only way to vent their anger. Lagosians are OK with their government. Imagine someone come from the east and appoint a govt for lagosians, and the govt then went ahead to destroy lagos. Who will bear the consequences? Lagosians of course. The Easterners will sure relocate back to their land and leave the yorubas to bear d impact of what they caused. The yorubas want to determine who governs them. Is it too much to ask for?. If I am in d USA and didn't like their terms, it is either I stay and eat their crumbs or I leave and go back to my country. It is not a must. Boasting that I am one of the people who help to develop their land and that they can't survive without me will only make them to want to prove me wrong.. I am tired of having talks like this because there is no way one can tackle this without sounding like an ethnic bigot.
Do you need a Visa to go to the U.S.?

Does an Igbo man need a Visa to go to Lagos?

Pls don't compare Abuja with Lagos.

Let's cut the chase. Do you agree that Lagos has owners or belongs to some group of persons or group?

Btw, Abuja belongs to some set of people originally. Making it a Federal Capital doesn't take away the rightful ownership but just a bigger responsibility and National management.

Pls answer my question. Thank you.
That is exactly the point.

You do not see Abuja natives coming out to threaten residents to vote a particular candidate or get their heads smashed against Aso rock.

b4 u lash out at the Oba, I will ask U to ponder on some few lines...

During Agbaje campaign, Agbaje promised to elevate the Ndigbo to the level of the Oba of Lagos... It is the same thing as saying I will take over ur monarchy in ur own land and nothing U can do. What ll U do if u are the Oba?

JK said the Igbos will soon become the deputy governor and later governor and finally rule over lagos. Will any Igbo accept a yoruba to even campaign for councillor in Igbo land let alone governor?

U allow someone to come reside with U in lagos and then they gang up and open their mouth to tell U that lagos is a no-man's land. Haba!
I don't have to go on and on. Lagosians are angry. A common yoruba man will get angry let alone an Oba whose throne is been threatened... Ndigbo even made the mistake of going to his palace. To do what? It is a big insult. That gave him the chance to vent his anger and frustration. One thing I like about yorubas is that they are very accommodating but ***
You allow..... someone to reside in Lagos you say.

On what basis are you making that allowance?

On the basis that Lagos is not in Nigeria and has not been the capital till the recent past.

On the basis that I require a Visa to go to Lagos as a foreigner?

On the basis that when one gets to Lagos he is accorded free shelter, food and clothing?

Please tell me the basis of allowance.

It is this phantom basis of "allowance " that your Oba has latched unto to make his despicable statements.

Please liberate your mind.

Igbos in Lagos state you don't have to be scared we are peaceful people just watch your utterances towards the Yorubas on their lands. As for the Oba we totally condemn what he said but in Yoruba land Oba cannot apologize to no one, someone from the palace and our leaders have come out to apologize on his behalf so accept it don't take this matter too far.
But this is a call to all Yorubas, we need to drop our liberal behaviour, and keep our rship with other ethnic groups at arms length especially the igbos, until they reciprocate what we are doing for them here before we allow them freedom here as well.
I just heard on the a program on radio Gov. Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano has a Yoruba man has commissioner in his cabinet. Until igbos start reciprocating this gesture to other tribes, we have to keep them at arms length and be careful of how we relate with them.
You say the Oba CAN NEVER apologize.
That it is a taboo.

Well I respect your culture, unfortunately that is not an excuse. Not in 2015.

Every tribe has harmful cultural practices that must be done away with.
Giving birth to twins was a taboo in Igbo land.
Burying the king with human heads was a practice amongst some tribes.

No one is infallible under a constitutional democracy.

You cannot wish millions of people death then hide under cultural infallibility.

But this man calling himself the head of Ohaneze in Amino odofin, this are the people fueling this issue, the palace of the Oba has spoken that the statement was misconstrued and you are still demanding for a documentary, we didn't destroy your property during the war,is it because of Elections we would now destroy it?never has Igbos being attacked in lagos so why now?

Asking or demanding for apologies from the Oba which is a taboo in yoruba land, will never work because rather for the Oba to apologise they will rather commit suicide.

Yorubas were not filled with hate when they harbored Igbos and kept them safe their the Biafran war. Remeber how you came from the North down to the West?
Were Yorubas filled with hate when they welcomed you to their land after the Biafran war?
Were Yorubas filled with hate when they gave you high positions in Yorubaland?

How quick you forget.
Yourubas harboured Igbos during the Biafran war?

Please which war are you talking about?

The one that every light skinned person in Lagos was discriminated against on the assumption of being Igbo even before it started.

Igbos returned to all parts of the country after the war and started afresh. From Kano to Kaduna, Lagos to Potiskum

Did Yorubas give out free land or food or shelter to them?

They started from scratch with nothing and diligently worked their way up and it has nothing to do with Yoruba love.

Yorubas love Igbos that is why they keep telling them that they are a defeated tribe and can never be president. That is why their Oba said they will perish in the lagoon.

Yorubas love Hausas that is why they keep calling them illiterates.

Yorubas love Ijaws that is why they keep calling Jonathan a clueless Otuoke fisherman from the abandoned land of fishermen.

Please feel free to research this.
I feel the Oba said a prayer which I say regularly " the people who do not want me to succeed will not succeed". Any inconvenience is deeply regretted.

Virtually everyone has castigated him for his statement, myself inclusive, and you guys over flogging the issue is responsible for the feud. Some Igbos are expanding the insult from the king to his tribe or one political party. The man talked for himself, not anyone or group.

Finally, no one is indispensable.
That is the point you are missing.
As an Oba he is a king and and a representative of his people.

He is no ordinary citizen and his words and action are weighty and cannot be equated to that of other citizens.

His seat is traditional and thus representative of his tribe or clan. That is why there is an outcry in the first place. If his words were said by some political tout on the street or online (worse has been said on nairaland) no one will even notice.

One cannot hide behind cultural practices to commit atrocities.

If not killing of twins, FGCutting etc would perfectly legal.

You cannot hide behind the stool of Obaship to utter genocidal statements and then expect the law not to apply to you.

Statements from coming from a traditional ruler who is a custodian of the people's culture MUST be guarded at all times.

Similar and in fact less inciting statements have led to genocide in the past.

The Oba is yet to tender an unreserved apology, he is the one responsible for his actions.

I religiously followed Chinua Achebe was a man I saw as the broken link between the Igbos and other ethnic tribes. I revered him and his works not until he wrote "There was a country". The so-called autobiography was uncalled for as it described what Achebe had nursed over the years. I saw him as someone who cared less about critics and only wanted to write to finally lay claims that he has not forgotten the struggle of his people. I could remember Wole Soyinka said the book was uncalled for as well and it was 'shocking' his good friend could round off his hard work with a disturbing autobiography.

As if that was not enough, Ngozi Chimamanda Adichie wrote "Half of a Yellow Sun" and the movie adaptation clearly revealed that a young lady who was obviously not born during the war managed to write a 'detailed' epistle of the war. I could remember I submitted a review saying "This movie and the book should not have existed". Being a sensitive fellow, I cried at some point in the movie and I thought "how would an Igbo man react to the movie?"

I've never been a fan of Ngozi Chimamanda Adichie and I was obviously not disappointed at the bigot adaptation, rather I blame Chinua Achebe for this. But like Chimamanda started with in this article, we're all born with prejudices. True, we might be born with them but we should be able to live above it. If people around Chimamanda cannot make her forget or shove aside the words of a disgruntled Oba, then she should take to the streets with whoever to protest. We're way past this issue. NCA is relevant and is already a giant in the literature sphere but thinking this piece would make her more relevant is saying black when an object is obviously white.
Shove aside the words of a disgruntled Oba indeed.

How about an unreserved apology for trying to incite genocide.

I think I will start by trying to be Anthropomorphic, as it will bet express my heading.
Its really sad when insanity realizes that he has a mental disorder then he is as good as cured. The moment a people come to terms with their complex problem which often place them at loggerheads with their host communities the better for them.

I seem not to fathom how a tribe claim to have suffered humiliations and deprivation from other ethnic nationalities. This allegation should be consider very weighty even though it was not substantiated. Nonetheless, this aggrieved ethnic nationality needs to ask herself what is about it that could be responsible for the purported hostile acts of other ethnic nationalities toward it.

One problem I have with Chimanda is all her articles tends to quote Chinua Achebe, even when its evident chinua actions are wrong. The sane mistake she made, about his book "there was a country". Now she is trying to say that the Igbo's were murdered in early 1960's for political reasons? Who started the war? Was it the Nigerian Arny or The late Ojukwu ? I see Chimabda is biased. And she is just a staunt re-echoer of Chinua Achebe's belief.

I liked the fact that she related the massacre of the Ibos in different parts of the country before the civil war. However what I do like to ask her is this,

1. chimanda was there nothing that led to the massacre?

You can't deny that the tendency to dominate in another man's land which is being exhibited now by taking the Oba to court is what led to such. Tell me when you come back from court if the people of Lagos will still have a good relationship with the Ibos.

Chimanda while trying to play a neutral ground at the surface, is been biased deep down. I am sorry to say but if Chimanda spent her time writing this, she wasted that time. As this just further lowered NY respect for her as an internationally recognised writer. Novel is her thing not politics.

Just imagine how shez is spreading lies about 1960s massacre. Posterity Judge you.
When Chimamanda lashed out against Jonathan's short comings she wasn't biased.
Now she speaks about a horrifying genocidal statement from an Oba she becomes the devil.

Please read the article again and you'll see where she refers to folks like you.
