szczescie: [s]I'm just noticing Ijaw sounds like I Jew and izon sounds like Izrael lol
Any topic that has to do with Name or politics or something that indicates maybe Yorubas on Nairaland there are always comments from nairalanders who are Igbo making some funny remarks.
I assumed it was friendly banter between Igbos and yorubas.
But now the way they are attacking ijaws and we are not responding, I know we don't have that kind of friendly banter or atleast I don't recall anytime we agreed to have such exchanges. I also don't understand why they do this, I will say a few, a few Igbos on Nairaland want to appropriate, annex Ijaw states, Ijaw people etc to Igbo.
Look many of you are not good students of history or you were taught wrong things so I will just point you in the right direction, I won't tell you what to think.
But I want to assure you with all honesty and sincerity, ijaw people (I am an ijaw man both from my father and my mother and I am from one of the royal families in ijaw land) So I know what I am saying, Ijaw people do not hate Igbos, we do not hate yorubas, we do not hate anyone, and we try as much as possible from what I perceive and what I can tell, we try our best to avoid conflict, remember when others where saying if their tribe doesn't get this or that doesn't happen baboon blood will spill, our person said my election is not worth anybody's life. That is just one example.
However the calmness of the crocodile is not weakness, why do I say all these?
People do not seem to know that by number of states and by population the ijaw tribe is amongst the top 3 and top 4 tribe respectively
Because we don't make noise or hurl insults online to stir ethnic or tribe conflicts doesn't mean we are not in Nigeria or we can't do it. We just refuse to do it.
I do not think it is wise or fair for some Igbo people on Nairaland to keep claiming ijaws are these and that, we see all the insults targeted at us especially and even almost exclusively from the Igbos, I've never met an Hausa or Fulani man both online or offline who was insulting of ijaws. Many ijaws have lived peacefully with yorubas for so long you can't even tell the difference now, In ajegunle and environs in the 60's and 70's there were large ijaw settlements or enclaves or however you want to call them, there are also large numbers of ijaws in some Yoruba states even some ijaws in ijaw states bear Yoruba names, many can speak Yoruba my mom speaks Yoruba and she's from Bayelsa, her half brothers are named taiye, kehinde etc Yoruba names.
But the yorubas have never one day come online to claim ijaw people are Yoruba, some ijaw or many ijaws largely agree through oral history that ijaws came from Bini but even the Bini people have NEVER one day said we are lesser than them or their subjects or any of that or we must fight their battle or must support them.
But online no week passes without some form of name calling, tribalism etc being flung at us from the Igbos and Most times it goes unreplied read the topics here on Nairaland that has to do with anything concerning ijaws. It is not as If we are not on Nairaland, it is not as if we don't see them or read them. We just chose not to reply.
But it has graduated to the level of propaganda and this is why I needed to post this, because in the future some of them will claim "if the ijaws were not or are not Igbos why did they kept quiet" their children may say " if your parents weren't Igbos why didn't they reply when my parents claimed they were Igbos" so this is the post saying WE THE IJAWS ARE NOT IGBOS.
what do I mean? Some Igbos online are now claiming all ijaws or most ijaws are Igbos, firstly, na by force?
Secondly in what way are we Igbos? We don't speak same language most of us do not share a common ancestor or history, during the Biafra war you renamed some places to Igbo names and claimed they had always been like that as if we don't have history, I want you to read Mary Henrietta Kingsley's book on West African History read the part on Nigeria and the Kalabari people or new Calabar people as they were called then, see if you can find ONE, just ONE Igbo name, also we have been bearing Portuguese names and naming our places Portuguese and English names since 1700's does that mean we are Portuguese or English? till today Port Harcourt is named after Harcourt, Bishop Bara heart, Braithwaith memorial, Forcados, even the ijaws you know off from wayyyy back their names where Isaac, George, Melford, Graham, West and so on.
Thirdly you forget we where once clumped under eastern region and we agitated to leave for certain reasons, go and read history about the creation of old rivers state and maybe you'll understand, Northerners didn't create rivers state for no reason or because they wanted to, We Rivers people, ijaw people wanted our own state, because according to those who were alive then and who moved for it, Eastern Region which the Igbos were a part of became Igbo, I don't think you understand that, everything good that came to eastern region was centered in Owerri, Enugu or any other exclusively Igbo town, rails, govmt buildings, anything, port Harcourt was in existence but nothing came that way all other old cities of other tribes were in existence but attention was not given to them, and there was serious nepotism.
This led to people like Melford okilo and co. Pressuring Gowon for a state,
Even when it comes to cessation from Nigeria don't forget Niger Delta Republic was declared on February 23, 1966 and they fought with federal forces before being defeated. Isaac Boro and his comrades were jailed for treason by Ojukwu and co. Ojukwu fought for Nigeria against the NDR only to turn back barely 3 years later and try to force us into Biafra, without even a sorry oh, you guys were right then. He just woke up and added us to battle and think we will fight for him just like that, Let us fight under Biafra and gain independence under Biafra Lol. A Biafra whose identity is so igbolised, igboitic. From there god to currency to flag to everything that is not a country in which an ijaw man will thrive, it will be frying pan to fire.
I as a person I am not against Biafra if you want it Goodluck to you left for me I would allow the refrendum, what I disagree with is your manner of trying to forcefully coerce others into your Biafra, you want freedom from Nigeria but you don't want to respect freedom of Niger Delta from Igbos?
Port Harcourt is the most free, most open, most accepting city in all of Nigeria. Yes! I've been to all big cities they usually speak Igbo(Enugu, Owerri), Yoruba (Lagos) or Hausa (Kano, Abuja) but in Port Harcourt English is the default, it is the language you are expectes or assumed to speak.
In Owerri and Enugu people expected me to speak Igbo, when I went to buy something the seller spoke Igbo to me, in Kano the bus drivers many spoke ONLY Hausa not even pidgin English, in Lagos along the conversation you'll just hear the speaker burst into rants in Yoruba and leave you lost in translation.
There are alot of Igbo people especially from imo in port Harcourt, but there are also many Akwa ibom people, many yorubas and people from everywhere else, we have our own problems like everyone else, we don't deny it. But insulting us trying to get us agitated will not help you in any way at all.
You want us to hate the hausa's but it is you dragging our land, it is you selling things to us 2 times the price because we are not Nwokem
You only want us not because you love us or you want the best for us or because we are brothers or anything like that but merely because you want numbers when you want to fight Hausa people or Yoruba people.
You claim we migrated from Ghana, Sierra Leone etc, lol we haven't denied it and we are not saying it's impossible but didn't you also migrate from somewhere to wherever you are today? Dont you claim to come from Israel? So if that's true it means even the land under your feet should be taken from you.
Also you are not doing yourself any good by fighting everybody, insulting everybody, everybody knows nothing only you knows everything, only you is smart everyone else is dumb. You are fighting yourself into a corner a corner that will keep reducing as you fight away everyone who can possibly help you.
I will continue to advocate that ijaws do not fall for the trap of becoming hateful people, we should keep following peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see God. We should remain accommodating that's why people say Ijaw people don't travel, travel to where when PH, Yenagoa, and other Niger Delta states are the most accommodating? No religious, ethnic, language intolerance, no cheating you because you are not my brother or you can't speak my language.
Finally if you are interested in knowing where most ijaw people stand on breaking the country called Nigeria. It's one of three things 1. No, don't break it. 2. Southern Nigeria (which will include Yoruba and Igbo regions) 3. Niger Delta Republic.
No Biafra that's not even an option except for a few hungry irrelevant people or just social media noise by one or two people with multiple accounts.
Why those 3 options? Because Nigerian politicians are the same, just greedy people interested in Thier pocket breaking Away from Nigeria will not stop the likes of Wike, godswill akpabio etc from doing their evil deeds and ruling badly. If an ijaw man becomes president or not it will not affect me personally. If an Igbo Ann becomes president it will not affect you personally, the north have been president for so long yet the ordinary northerners have very little or nothing to show for it.
We are not Igbos we are a distinct separate entity with different language, culture, dressing, history, delicacies, oral traditions, value system etc
We left the eastern region for a reason and wouldn't want to go back to that arrangement ever again we either remain alone or if we have to stay with the Igbos then Yoruba people, Tiv people INFACT all the middle belt and south west will be in that union. To counter balance each other, minimise bigotry, tribalism and so on.
That we are not exactly the same doesn't mean we cannot work together for the betterment of human life.
Thank you Stay in love[/s]
Playing victim as usual Tonye. Is this your newest monicker? What hapened to your Ijawcitizen, and countless monickers you use to fight Igbos. Because you've been beaten blue black in your dirty game you now come here to cry foolishly.
superlanny: It's like you think everything is a joke, fool. I don't know if you still have a mother, is that how they shined her Congo when your father died. Idiot.
Forget the message, dude was on my cracking a joke to calm too much emotions.
He should take it easy o, that's how from trying to comfort, my stupid elder brother impregnated my late cousin's wife.
Experience has shown that nobody has a wetter kpekus than a woman in mourning because of the overflow of tears in their heart which eventually drains downward into their kpekus and leaves them completely vulnerable.
Kaybex007: I can't believe tears came out of my eyes cuz of his death. it's always food to drop music with vital messages. I got too glued to the messages in his music and his lifestyle, now I'm missing him.

Dude used to be our neigbour back in the days in Satellite Town late 1996 to 2003. Omo this guy death just made me sober. Couldn't eat since morning. Very painful. We love you bro, but God loves you more.
Sultan was a nice gentleman all through. Dude married his long time Igbo girlfriend.
Igboid: Ohanaeze is a compromised useless group that has contributed zero to Igbo development, be it political or otherwise since its formation. Igbo commoners see them as clowns they are and they know they don't represent the people inyeresr neither do they have the people goodwill.
Igbo society have always been steered by the majority, ie the commoners. Everyone is a king in Igboland and Igbo commoners always know who has our best interest at heart.
Who invited terrorist Nigeria Military to Igboland in 2017 to kill our people? Was it not the sellout efulefus you call SE political class and the useless Ohanaeze Ndi Ori? Ever since the killer Herdsmen has been ravaging Igboland, what has been their response? Nothing! Why? Because their interest is not the interest of Igbo commoners. They are all descendants of Ukpabi Asika who was atleast blunt enough to tell Ndiigbo hohaa that he wasn't there to serve our interests but to serve the interest of those who put him in power. "Onye ube ya ruru, ya rachaa".
UGM has nothing to do with IPOB, so I don't know what you are up about. ESN was and remain a laudable initiative that emphasizes more on the uselessness of the Igbo political class and their colleagues in Ohanaeze. If a police officer or Army of Igbo extraction is found aiding the Herdsmen to settle in our land to rape our mothers and sisters and kill our men and destroy their farming means of livelihood, that makes them enemies of Igbo land and interests and whatever treatment they received was well deserved, seeing as hundreds of Igbos have died because of the actions of those Igbos who had sold out to the Hausa-Fulanis.
You spoke of Chinua Achebe. Good you did. He was my kinsman and comes from same kindred as my maternal grandmother. I will let you know that Achebe remained a Biafran in heart until the last day he left the earth. He never embraced failed NIGERIAN country and he rejected every single award NIGERIA ever tried to award him. Just before he died, he released a book on Biafra to keep the Biafra consciousness burning strong in pure Igbo hearts and to remind us of who we are and that there was once a country where we truly belong. Ponder on this.
I agree, Ohaneze hasn't been living up to expectations and don't fight for Igbo interest. They seem to be a group out for their belly’s. But until we have a charismatic group founded on Igbo ethics and out to secure political emancipation for Ndigbo, we can only make do with Ohaneze at the moment. That said, we need a secondary group looking out for Igbo interest. A mixture of elders and youths - intelligentsia, cultural ambassadors and diplomats and not just anyone.
You said UGM has nothing to do with IPOB? This statement alone proves you are not objective. Didn’t Nnamdi Kanu order his boys to pick up arms? Didn't he order his boys to kill both military personnel and saboteurs? Are you denying that those caught causing havoc in the east are not ESN members? It's obvious IPOB and her sympathizers have learnt the use of Jewish and Islamic Taqiyya to deceive people.
One thing is sure, with video evidence and IPOB members confessions, UGM is IPOB and IPOB is UGM, we cannot be decieved. No matter how you want to shy away from it, the truth remains that IPOB is a cancer that must be uprooted from Igbo consciousness. Everything about IPOB is anti-Igbo.
You also made mention about killing Igbo military and Police personnel? Are the officers the commanders of their divisions? So Coporals and Sergeants who follow orders should be killed for orders they only followed. Why don't you go for the commanding officers instead? Sorry to say this but, you are no different from the military and the UGM terrorist who celebrate killings of innocent civilians.
Igboid: Igbos have no intelligentsia and no political elites. Ohanaeze is a compromised organization who are financed by SE governors, who themselves are stooges to the Hausa-Fulanis. No of these people you mentioned have any influence on the Igbo commoners, because all of them are political jobbers only fighting for their own selfish interests using Igbo interests as bargaining chips.
The Igbo commoners know this and the above group of people know that the Igbo commoners see them for what they are which is sellouts.
Now listen well. Many Igbos like myself might not be IPOB members, not do we subscribe to MNK methods, but we all know he isn't compromised and that he has our best interest at heart even if we don't totally agree with his methods. This gives him a far better acceptability in Igboland than the efulefus you mentioned.
Dalukwa.
I remember when Chris Uba was acting as a despot in Anambra during Obasanjo’s tenure. It took the bullet piercing stance of Achebe to call Obasanjo to order. And we know what happened next? Obasanjo abandoned Chris Uba to his fate, which empowered Ngige to reclaim government house and dismantle the political cobwebs of Eselelego. Whether we like it or not, Igbo intelligensia’s have a lot to play in calming tensions and taking charge of the Igbo leadership mantle.
Ohaneze I agree might not be living up to expectations, but they still remain our elders and mouthpiece. They were elected by us, the same with our Governors. No man in his right senses will accuse them of working against Igbo interest. Their tenure is limited and is not everlasting just like Kanu. The only group I see calling them sellouts are IPOB members because they don't bow to the dictates of Supreme Leader and we know why?
Before I used the think that Igbo commoners where wise until the coming of Kanu. The so-called Igbo commoners have proven themselves to be mentally and educationally daft. Sorry to say this. Who are those cheering Nnamdi Kanu destructive tendencies in Igboland? Who are those donating to the UGM/ESN cause? Who are those cheering the murder of Igbo sons and daughters by IPOB? And lastly, who are those calling Kanu infallible as Molly in George Orwells animal farm? The influence of a non-entity as Kanu was the handiwork of illiterate abroad Igbo groups in collaboration with their more worst daft home base groups. Nnamdi Kanu is mentally unstable and shows attitudes of a megalomaniac. Dude has never hidden his disdain for Igbo elders and has used his radio to pollute the pyshe of the Igbo commoners. Anyone calling Ohaneze a group with no political influence sellouts needs his head properly checked.
Lastly, Kanu is a long ranger. A freedom fighter at day but a politician at night. Dude for the umpteenth time does not have Igbo interest at heart, never did and never will. Its high time you guys smell the coffee and liberate your self from IPOB insomnia.
Never again shall Ndigbo be manipulated by IPOB/PDP fake news to rally behind a fraudster. If Nnamdi Kanu cannot survive small detention in prison, then he no business championing a secessionist movement.
If Mandela could survive almost 3 decades in prison to racist apartheid government, then Nnamdi Kanu should consider Nigerian prison as a chilling room. Why? Because he’s in safe hands as the Presidency is conscious about keeping him well and healthy until his trial.
IPOB should be careful of their utterances as no one is falling for it anymore, not Igbo elites, not Ohaneze and not Igbo intelligentsia. They should stay clear from political manipulations by failed politicians who want to use them to return back to power. At the appropriate time, we’ll ask the federal government to consider lightening his sentence to parole and possibly rehabilitate both him and his IPOB followers.
Let me state here that IPOB does not represent Ndigbo. Nnamdi Kanu’s cause should be separated from the aspirations of Ndigbo. Ndigbo have table their request in several national conferences, and will keep following the armbit of legality to fight for a just and egalitarian Nigeria where all tribes are treated equal.
Ojiofor: True talk op. IPOBs are not Igbos and Igbos are not IPOBs.
I agree with you on this Ojiofor. IPOB are Jews who migrated from Isreal but with a Supreme Leader now in prison, while Igbos are Africans indigenous to Nigeria and Equitorial Guinea.
Igbos are republican in nature and majority Christians. We believe in peace, a just and equal nation and most importantly a united Igboland of Umuigbo’s in the SE, SS and NC.
Adaka Boro and Alfred Biriye sold the Niger-Delta to the north. Them and GEJ were the clowns that never had the South-South at heart but for greed slept while the people suffered.
An Iroko has fallen. A retired soldier and good man. He addressed us in Yikpata camp during my service. He speaks Yoruba, Nupe, Hausa and a little Igbo.
He told us that we should feel at home in Kwara and even suggested we take wives if possible. . It was through him that I realized that the old Oyo Ile, Patigi, even Share falls under his emirate.
Ijaws should go and collect their meal ticket from late Adaka Boro and Alfred Biriye. The duo sold the Niger-Delta to Ahmadu Bello, and Tafawa Balewa for selfish aims. How can you sell yourself to the north cheap all because you want them to free you from Igbo dominated eastern region. If Ijaws wanted a common province of their own, to merge Ijaws in Delta with their Bayelsa kinsmen, it only needed an agreement by both the Eastern and Western region to agree to such creation as both areas falls in seperate regions. Not by becoming a willing tool to be used to destabilize the east with Boro's insurrection, and still joining the federal troops to subdue the Igbos.
shigishege: As it stands now they too are aware that it's Southerners turn especially in APC. So it's only left for the Southerners to leave out enmity and backstabing and unite. If we unite surely, we will get to power.
I used to say something that's very sure to me that, even if an Ibo man becomes the president of this nation he is not granting any refrendum or back any secessioning agitation. He will only try and fix the nation and carry his kinsmen along.
So this should be the basis, when a southern politician too get power, let him develop the South like our northern conterpart have been obviously doing.
Let's be frank, Jonathan woefully failed the Southerners. Obasanjo tried a little for the Yorubas, but what did Goodluck do for the South and the east. This is the fact my ibo brothers will never accept. And this is the same fear and doubt im still having about other southern politicians...
A welcome development. I was personally affected by that Igbosere High Court destruction. No office was working, not even probate. To the extent that all activities had to be transfered to Ikeja High Court.
adadike: he is a big sponsor of IPOB. He is becoming jittery that's why he became Buhari's friend overnight. Am watching Obiano too in 3D Kanu's phone is a gold mine.
Exactly, the PDP guys cannot save face. Obasanjo, Emeka, Abaribe, Anyim, Jonathan, Obi, Wike knows more about Kanu's activities.
Chris525: Igbo man that would use his mother, siblings kids and even wife for ritual; who then is nnamdi kanu??
Before he started making biafra noise what was he? What did he achieve? Besides his father being a traditional ruler what was he known for? What good has he done himself?
Abeggi. Even in detention they’ll still continue to sell him. If he dies they’ll still sell his part. Nobody send am
Mods! Mynd44 this dude is profiling a tribe and breaking Nairaland rules.
You must be insane Op. Can you people not masturbate in your thread without mentioning Igbos?
Did Nnamdi Kanu tell you he was fighting for Ndigbo? Was there a time Ndigbo elected him their leader? Did Nnamdi Kanu not appropriate himself Supreme Leader? Did he consult Ndigbo to understand what we want? Did he carry Ndigbo along in his struggle or it was a one-man show? Did we tell him to cause insecurity in Igboland? Did we ask him to form ESN on our behalf? Was there a time we ask Kanu to instigate war on our behalf?
Please don't disturb us with Nnamdi Kanu's ordeal. If Ndigbo needs a leader, we know how to get one. We are not lacking charismatic intellectuals home and abroad. Nnamdi Kanu fought for himself, destroyed Ndigbo politically. Use the noble Biafran ideals to his own benefit and turbo-charged youths to die for a failed agenda. While we feel sorry for him, we still wish that no harm is done to him during and after his trial. At the end the government will settle him just as was done to Dokubo, Iwazuruike, Gani Adams and Tompolo.
Bonesking: Nnamdi Kanu should answer him papa name. Dude single handedly helped messed up the Biafra struggle. From a noble ideal to one of toutism and arrogance
Ndigbo need true charismatic leaders in the mould of Zik. One with his political sagacity but pro-Igbo.
Nnamdi Kanu's arrest and the fall of IPOB is a welcome development. Our people are wiser now and will resist any attempts of outsiders to plant moles in our midst. MASSOB, BZM and IPOB were all planted by non-Igbos.
The aim was to weaken us politically right from Obasanjo the first founder and financier of MASSOB. The government will end up settling him, the same way Asari, Dokubo, Gani Adams and recently Tompolo were settled.
Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB denigration should serve as a lesson to other group. Noise and stupidity has never won against strategy and tact. A new group led by charismatic intellectuals will rise up at the right time to lead Ndigbo. MASSOB/BIM/IPOB has shown that they have nothing to offer but daftness.
TAO1 stop disgracing yourself openly. We know you spend time arguing unfounded historical claims on nairaland, but did you just say that Yoruba tribes evolved the use of Agbada independently? Where did you put the Arabs, Touaregs and Hausa that brought it to you by virtue of the trans-saharan trade? It's on record that Agbada is not indegenious to Nigeria. Agbada is foreign. Touareg/Arab precisely.
PrinceOfLagos: A deal must have been agreed between Kanu and Nigerian government
Forget all this media drama, Anything is possible with this government.
First, they didn't allow the press take photos of him at the court today.. Quite unusual.
I tell you. Buhari let Kanu jump bail in 2017 and has brought him back for 2023. I want to believe that Kanu has been working for the government ever since, helping to destroy Igbo stake to the Presidency. The same I see with Igboho and his destruction of the Yoruba claim to 2023.
Buhari have really empowered his ethnic group to rule Nigeria for a long time.
