IgbereTV reports that the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has predicted that heavy flood might hit the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers state, Bayelsa, and others beginning from September 6.
Director-General of NIHSA, Clement Nze,who disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday, August 25, said the Middle Niger of the River Niger Basin is currently flooded and the magnitude of flood from that area is expected to arrive in Nigeria through Kebbi State from September 6, 2020.
He said parts of 275 local government areas in the 36 states of the federation, including Abuja, were within the moderately probable flood risk areas, while the remaining 397 local government areas were within the low probable flood risks areas.
Nze said at least 102 local government areas in 28 states fall within the highly probable flood risk areas. He added that River Niger Basin covered nine countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Niger and Nigeria which is at the lowest portion of the basin.
“The red alert points to imminent river flooding in Nigeria. Both the Kainji and Jebba dams have commenced spilling water downstream.
This means that once the upper catchment of the basin gets flooded, Nigeria should be prepared to experience flooding incidents.
As of today, the Middle Niger of the Niger Basin made up of Niger, Benin, Burkina Faso and part of Mali, have been flooded. The flood levels at the hydrological stations monitored in Niamey and Malanville (Benin Republic) have got to the red alert zone.
Latest information received by the NIHSA from the regional Niger Basin Authority headquarters in Niamey had it that as of Sunday, August 23, 2020, the flood level of the River Niger monitored in Niamey was 6.60 metres.”
Nze said with this development, these state namely: Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, Anambra, Delta, Edo, Rivers, and Bayelsa, might experience heavy flooding from around September 6, 2020.

- CP Warns Acts of Rebellion Will Not be Tolerated in the State
1. Following credible information received on 23/08/2020 at about 0830hrs that suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) numbering over five hundred (500) had gone on rampage, blocking and burning tyres on the road, after abducting Operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS), the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad AbdurRahman MCPSS, MCJ, MNIM immediately deployed Operatives of the Command, led by Enugu Metro Area commander, to rescue the adopted Operatives and restore normalcy.
2. On getting to the scene, the Operatives, who were joined by those of DSS, Army and Air Force, came under serious gunfire attacks by the hoodlums. They responded and in the ensuing gun duel, two of the hoodlums were gunned down, while some of them escaped with bullets wounds.
3. The Operatives successfully restored normalcy and rescued one of the DSS Operatives, who were at the said school to disperse the hoodlums from their unlawful assembly, while two (2) others were found lifeless in the scene and later confirmed dead.
4. Five (5) members of the group were arrested and they confessed to being members of the proscribed IPOB, and had gone to the school to hold a meeting and be trained in martial act and self-defense skills. Machetes, cut-to-size woods with nails affixed, phones and other items were recovered at the scene.
5. Meanwhile, before getting to the scene, the hoodlums had macheted and gruesomely killed a young man, set ablaze another, while also attacking Police personnel resident in the area.
6. To this end, the Commissioner, while warning that acts of rebellion by persons and/or groups (including the proscribed IPOB) capable of truncating the peace and tranquility enjoyed in the State will not be tolerated, made it clear that perpetrators will be made to face the full weight of the law.

IgbereTV reports that Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has said that the planned Ishmael Ikpeazu Memorial Library would serve as an avenue to redirect the younger generation and assist them excel academically.

Governor Ikpeazu who doubles as the first son of the man whose name is being immortalized with the proposed library expressed the hope that the project is a way of bequeathing a lasting legacy for Abia children.
Expressing regrets that mentorship for the younger generation is gradually being eroded, the Governor said the Library will also serve as an avenue for mentoring the younger generation.
He recalled that the dream of his late father was to build a library where the younger generation would invest their time fruitfully adding that he was touched to be realizing the dream now.
He disclosed that the library would house about Thirty Thousand volumes of various books and announced that his family would support the project with the sum of Twenty Five Million Naira.
Also speaking, the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma and the Minister of State for Mines & Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah, both commended the Governor for immortalizing his late father by building a library in his memory. They assured that they would support the process of making the project a reality.
The book reviewer and Vice Chancellor of ABSU, Prof. Uche Ikonne, said the book which is a 350-page book of two sections; covering the Governor's personal history and his speeches is a legacy of the Governor's late father, who modelled his son to become successful in education and resilient in life.
In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion, Chief Theo Nkire noted that a library is a befitting monument for a teacher like Pa Ikpeazu, especially at a time when libraries are going extinct and attributed exam malpractices to the absence of well equipped libraries and a lack of reading culture in Nigeria.
He commended Governor Ikpeazu for thinking of immortalizing his late father by building a library and urged everybody to contribute in making the project a reality.
Unveiling the prototype of the library, Mr. Chinenye Nwaogu, explained that the library would be a complete complex of many segments including science laboratory, play ground for children, amphi-theatre and accommodation for visitors among others, attracting many activities as well as be a resource centre for academic excellence .
Speaking about the late Pa Ismael Ikpeazu, the Governor's younger brother, Barr. Iheanyi Ikpeazu, described their father as one who was an intelligent teacher and ardent collector of books and scholarly materials. He maintained that the best legacy to be bequeathed to mankind in memory of Pa Ishmael Ikpeazu should be the establishment of a library to sustain his dreams and appreciated all who attended the event.

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi on Wednesday said he will make no fewer than sixty thousand Ebonyians, millionaires through his empowerment program before the end of his administration come 2023.

Man Accused Of Kidnapping And Raping A 21-Years-Old Lagos Fashion Designer (Photos)
A man has been accused of kidnapping a 21-year-old undergraduate and taking her to his home where he raped her repeatedly, IgbereTV reports.
IgbereTV learnt that the victim named Zainab, who is a student and also a fashion designer was on her way home from work on August 10, when an SUV stopped beside her around Olateju, Mushin, and a man, whose name was given as Babatunde Qudus, popularly known as Ovation in the area, allegedly came down from the car with a gun.
He allegedly threatened her and bundled her into the car. His driver then drove to Omole Estate where Babatunde allegedly raped Zainab all through the night.
The following day, he dropped her by the road after threatening that her life would be in danger if she tells anyone,
Zainab reportedly told her parents and the case was reported at the Olosan police station after which the victim was taken to the hospital for tests.
She has now been placed on HIV drugs and other medications and the incident has left her depressed.
It was also alleged that the police officers have been compromised due to the influence of the accused. Also, Zainab and her parents have allegedly received threats to force them to drop the case.
The incident was narrated on Twitter by @ehival and the victim responded to back up the story.

EFCC Arrests Airman , 26 Others For Internet Fraud In Lagos.
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Office, have arrested a serving military personnel, Lance Corporal Ajayi Kayode and 26 others for alleged internet fraud in the Lekki axis of Lagos State. Kayode, with service number NAF18/34732, was arrested in his military attire during an early morning raid at 6B, Fatai Idowu Arobike, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, on Saturday, August 15, 2020, following intelligence received from concerned members of the public about his alleged involvement in criminal activities.
He was arrested alongside Kalu Emmanue; Hassan Sunday; Odinaka David Okem; Victor Ochiabuito; Christopher Prince; Victor Ologhu; Alex Aka; Miracle Onyekwere; Habeeb Ayomide; Olakunle Ajeigbu, Rasheed Olanrewaju and Salam Hakeem.
In his statement to the EFCC, Kayode said the “big shot yahoo yahoo boys” in whose company he was arrested, were his friends and that they had been teaching him how to make money through cybercrime.
While the "boys" are members of Organised Cyber Criminal Syndicate Network, OCCSN, the ladies arrested with them confirmed the involvement of their “boyfriends” in internet fraud.
Items recovered from the suspects include diamond jewelry, exotic cars and expensive phones.
Iroko TV boss, Jason Njoku has revealed why he won't encourage his children to be entrepreneurs, IgbereTV reports.
In a tweet he shared, Jason said that he wants his kids to be happy but won't encourage them to be entrepreneurs because it is "super hard". Jason added that though entrepreneurship may make them rich, it will cause them unhappiness.

An Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti division, on Monday, sentenced a 26-year-old man, Dele Ojo, to death by hanging for killing the owner of a farm where he was stealing tubers of yam.
Justice Abiodun Adesodun, in the court judgment, said, “The circumstances of this case do not allow for recommendation of clemency to the governor on behalf of the accused.
“Therefore, the defendant is sentenced to death by hanging. May the Lord have mercy on his soul.”
The convict was said to have committed the offence on September 13, 2018, at Iroko Ekiti, in the Ijero area of Ekiti State.
The police said he murdered the farmer owner, Ajayi Adewole, contrary to Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap.C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
An eyewitness, who was with the deceased, said, “The defendant had been stealing the deceased’s yam for a long time. But on the fateful day, the deceased went to hide in the farm in order to arrest the culprit.
“Around 2am, he saw the defendant carrying a hunting lamp on his head, pretending to be hunting and started uprooting yam. The deceased shouted his name; to evade arrest, he shot the deceased at close range and ran away. He was rushed to the Ijero Ekiti Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.”
The prosecutor, Mr Olawale Fapohunda, who is the Attorney General of Ekiti State, called four witnesses, including the Investigating Police Officer and a medical doctor, to prove his case.
The exhibits tendered in court included a locally-made gun, photographs of the deceased, five tubers of yam, and the confessional statements of the defendant, among others.
The defendant testified in his own defence through his lawyer, Mr Yinka Oyeleke, and called no witness.
IgbereTV reports that Governor Hope Uzodimma's convoy was attacked on Monday August 17, while on the Governor was on his way to the 34 Attilary Brigade in Obinze, to inaugurate an officers mess built by the state government.
While the hoodlums armed with guns and machetes claimed to be staff members of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) and also disclosed they were protesting non-payment of their salaries, the state government said its position that most of the protests in the state were sponsored by the opposition had been vindicated.
The state Commissioner of Police Isaac Akinmoyede who confirmed the arrest of 15 suspects linked to the attack, said they were arrested with one locally-made pistol, two machetes, a mask, a chain and a padlock. He also disclosed that the incident which occurred around Concord area of New Owerri, did not claim any life.
Akinmoyede said:
“They attacked the vehicles in the convoy with a locally made pistol and machetes.
“But in the process, windscreens of some of the vehicles in the convoy were smashed and the vehicles damaged."
The police commissioner said that the suspects have been handed over to state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution.
Another man identified as Ibrahim Lawan (35-years-old) allegedly held in captivity for 15 years by his father at Skeka quarters within Kano metropolis has been rescued.
It was reliably gathered that Lawan was 20-years-old when he was locked up in captivity.
A video clip circulating shows how operatives of the police in the state evacuated the man on a stretcher from an uncompleted apartment into a waiting ambulance to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
It was gathered that the detectives attached to the Kano state Headquarters of the state Command Bompai rescued the 35 years old man around 11:45 am on Sunday.
Lawan’s rescue was coming barely four days after (Thursday), one Ahmed Aminu, 30-years-old, confined by his father, Aminu Farawa in a garage was also rescued by the police in the state.

On the 15/8/2020 at about 8:30pm, there was a report at Central Police Station Onitsha that one Izuchukwu Achusim 'm' aged 42 years of NO,35 Guest house street ,fegge went to Lotus Garden hotel in Onitsha with his girl friend to Swim inside the swimming pool.
However, victim who was said to be drunk jumped into the deepest part of the pool and got drowned.The hotel manager and other guests pulled the victim out and rushed him to waterside hospital Onitsha for medical attention but he was later certified death by a medical Doctor on duty.
Scene was visited by Police detectives and corpse photographed and deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

IgbereTV reports that an Edo Senior Special Assistant from Urhonigbe South ward 8, Faith Obasuyi has resigned from Governor Godwin Obaseki's government ahead of the governorship election scheduled to hold in the state in September.
In her resignation letter which was sent in on Friday August 14, Obasuyi alleged that recent activities of Obaseki's administration will not lead to the actualization of development and the promotion of woman and girl-child interest.
It read;
"I’m, therefore, not persuaded that the recent activities of the Gov Obaseki administration can lead me to achieving these interest especially when the governor has now abandoned the APC on whose back he rode to power.
‘This decision is borne out of my desire to join forces with our great party, the APC to ensure the emergence of a true Orhionmwon man as governor come September 19th, 2020.”

Police Rescue Man Locked Up By His Parents In A Room For 7 Years In Kano (Photo, Video)
IgbereTV reports that the Kano State Police Command have rescued a 32-year-old man, Ahmad Aliyu who was allegedly locked up by his father and stepmother for seven years in Farawa Babban Layi, Mariri Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
According to IgbereTV reports, Aliyu spent days without food and water and drank his urine. He was allegedly locked up by his parents on the suspicion that he had started smoking and getting involved in drug consumption.
Aliyu was rescued after a concerned neighbor alerted the police in Farawa and Human Rights Network, who came to rescue him.
When the police and the human rights group arrived, the stepmother insisted that Ahmad was not at home, which forced the team to break down places in the house in search of him.
The police thereafter arrested the man and his wife and took away their victim.
