Politics › Just In! Reps Order Arrest Of Acting NDDC MD, Pondei by EBMedia(op): 4:01pm On Jul 16, 2020 |
IgbereTV reports that the Nigeria’s House of Representatives has ordered the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, to quickly arrest and probe the Acting Managing Director (MD) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Professor Kemebradikumo Daniel Pondei, for what it described as ‘contempt of the legislature’
The House Committee on NDDC has summoned the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NDDC to make a presentation at the ongoing investigative hearing into the financial recklessness at the Commission.
It was established from the previous sitting that the IMC recklessly spent N81.5bn from the coffers of the Commission from February to May 2020 without due process.
But the Acting MD, when called upon to clear the allegation, rather, questioned the credibility of the House Committee.
According to him, he had no confidence in the Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo-led House Committee on NDDC, adding that he would not speak before the panel.
Though various members of the committee tried to make him see reasons why he could not dictate to the National Assembly how to run its oversight functions; Prof. Pondei rather walked out on the committee.
Disturbed by the show of disrespect to the lower chamber, Spokesman of the House, Rep. Benjamin Kalu, moved a motion, invoking section 89 of the 1999 constitution (as amended), to issue a warrant of arrest.
The motion was seconded and passed.
The committee also passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Tunji-Ojo, saying his integrity and those of other members of the committee was not in question. However, the committe's investigative hearing continues. https://igberetvnews.com/1358258/just-reps-order-arrest-acting-nddc-md-pondei/

Politics › Anambra Govt Congratulates Dr. Egbu - First Black VC Of A British University by EBMedia(op): 3:21pm On Jul 16, 2020 |
Anambra Govt Congratulates Dr. Egbu - First Black Vice Chancellor of A British University (Photo)
IgbereTV reports that the Anambra State government has congratulated Professor Charles Egbu on his emergence as the first black Vice Chancellor of a British university.
Dr Egbu, Professor of Quantity Surveying, will on November 1 assume duties as the Vice Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University in England.
He is currently the Pro- Vice Chancellor (Education & Experience) at the University of East London, having served as the Dean of the School of the Built Environment and Architecture of the London South Bank University and a senior academic at the University College, London.
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State in a statement which was made available to journalists in Awka, the Anambra State capital, this morning stated: “This is a great moment for not only the government and people of Anambra State but also all Nigerians and indeed, Africans and Blacks across the globe."
“Professor Egbu’s emergence is a game changer in the history of higher education in a conservative society like the United Kingdom where only last January the Universities Minister, The Honourable Chris Skidmore, decried the fact that the number of Blacks holding senior academic positions in Britain is officially zero”, continued Obiano.
“Professor Egbu reminds all Africans of when Professor Kenneth Onwuka Dike, another worthy indigene of Anambra State, became the first African and Black Principal of the University College, Ibadan, and later emerged its first African and Black Vice Chancellor of the university, which was established in 1948.
“Professor Dike, who graduated First Class in the United Kingdom, just like Professor Egbu, made the University of Ibadan become synonymous with excellence in scholarship and administration throughout the world.
“A farsighted leader, Professor Dike discovered early enough the great promise of such young scholars as Dr Jacob Ade Ajayi, and went out of his way to ensure their rapid rise, despite protests from certain quarters.
“The records which these scholars made in various disciplines and endeavours vindicated Professor Dike’s actions, as he went on to become a distinguished professor at Harvard University until he was called upon, once again, to return home and serve his fatherland”.
Governor Obiano said that he is in no doubt that Professor Egbu, who hails from Abatete in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, “will excell in his new role and consequently market our dear state to the world in a most uncanny way.
“I have no doubt in my mind that he will not for a moment forget his roots and how he can contribute to our development”.
Noting that Professor Egbu’s appointment as the first Black Vice Chancellor of a UK university is purely based on merit rather than any primordial considerations, the Anambra State governor stated “with pride that it came when Anambra people in the state, in different parts of the country and all over the world are demonstrating, more than ever before, great competitiveness in education”.
Miss Agnes Ego Maduafokwa from Ihiala scored a bull’s eye in Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) history by getting 365 marks out of a maximum 400 in the 2020 examination while David Nwobi from Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area made the second best result in the country.
Two weeks ago, Dr Chidubem Obi from Ifite Dunu in Dunukofia Local Government Area became the first African to emerge the overall best student in Russia’s oldest and most prestigious medical university while Patrick Okigbo III, a member of the Anambra State Vision 2070 Committee set up by Governor Obiano to draw up a strategic plan to make the state fully developed like Dubai within 50 years, was one of the 12 persons across the globe appointed Senior Fellows at John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
“These are really good times for the people and government of Anambra State”, according to Governor Obiano who will next week honour in Awka the two candidates with the best results in the 2020 JAMB examination”. https://igberetvnews.com/1358248/anambra-govt-congratulates-dr-egbu-first-black-vice-chancellor-british-university-photo/Lalasticlala

Politics › Afenifere: ‘Blame Tinubu, Akande, Fayemi If South West Loses 2023 Presidency’ by EBMedia(op): 7:06am On Jul 13, 2020 |
• It’ll be unfair to blame them alone, says YCE • We need restructuring, not presidency – Okorounmu • Next president should be Igbo, Aka Ikenga insists
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s pioneer chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, and the Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, have been warned that they would be blamed if Southwest fails to clinch the presidential ticket of the party in 2023.
The Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) gave the warning on Saturday while addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.
The ARG’s warning has since drawn reactions from individuals and groups. To prevent the loss of the presidential ticket, the ARG has also advised Tinubu, Fayemi and Akande to unite Southwest.
The ARG’s Publicity Secretary in Ekiti State, Prince Michael Ogungbemi, who spoke on behalf of the group, said the Southwest had the prospect of producing the President after President Muhammadu Buhari’s two terms in office.
He said, “About 2023, ARG had met and we have concluded that the Yoruba nation is ready to lead Nigeria. We have a blueprint that we can present to any presidential candidate that can bring better democratic governance to all Nigerians.
“The South-West is ready to take over. We have human and material resources.
The political leaders must go on consultations. We have six geopolitical zones, Southwest is just a block. Tinubu must lead this block. Also, luckily, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who is the NGF chairman, is from the Southwest.
“They must move for a united family to clamour for presidency for the South-West and produce a unified front. If they can speak with one voice, we will actually clinch this ticket, because it is our turn.”
He added, “We can’t go into that race with a divided house. Tinubu, Fayemi, Akande, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, Gen. Alani Akinrinade, Prof Banji Akintoye, Senator Femi Okurounmu, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) and others must convene a meeting of progressive politicians in the zone so that we can be united. If we have a candidate that is acceptable to both the North and the South, we will surely win.
“But Yoruba nation will blame Tinubu, Fayemi and Akande, if the South-West fails to clinch the ticket,” he stated.
The ARG chief stressed the need for restructuring, saying it remained the panacea for peace and unity among diverse Nigerian citizens.
“Nigeria needs to be restructured, but what we need is classical restructuring, it might not be holistic for now. With restructuring, governance at the state will be healthier and more benefiting, the running of the states will be healthier .
“Governance under presidential system is very powerful and costly, but with power residing in the states and local governments, things will be better. We must have a roundtable referendum to achieve this. It is not to satisfy certain groups, it will bring geometric progressive order, because we have not been moving at the right pace.”
The National Chairman of ARhG, Mr. Wale Oshun, stressed the need for Southwest to pick the presidency in 2023, citing the non-constitutional arrangement that the leadership of Nigeria should be rotated.
He said, “The North will finish its eight-year tenure in 2023 and based on that, the presidency should return to South-West because former President Goodluck Jonathan is from the South-East block and he also spent six years, apparently eight if the one he spent along with the late President Umaru Yar’Adua is added.”
Some leaders in the region, however, expressed different opinions on the position of the ARG.
The Secretary-General, Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), Dr. Kunle Olajide, agreed that the Yoruba should produce next President on the grounds that the ruling APC controlled five out of the six states in Southwest. He also agreed that if the party would produce a Yoruba presidential candidate, the leaders mentioned had critical and crucial roles to play.
He said it would be unfair to leave the fate of Yoruba presidency in the hands of Tinubu, Akande and Fayemi alone.
“Other governors, like Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Gboyega Oyetola (Osun), Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former governor of Ogun State, Segun Osoba, are also involved.”
He, however, observed that with the political situation the country, “it is very difficult to say that APC would retain the presidency in 2023 looking at the enormity of crises within the party. It is only when the two major political parties APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decide to field a southern candidate that the south could produce the President.”
A chieftain of Afenifere, Senator Femi Okurounmu, however, said the Yoruba race was not interested in the presidency until Nigeria was appropriately restructured to reflect true federalism.
He said, “Nigeria cannot continue the way it is without restructure.”
Efforts to reach Tinubu for his reaction failed. His spokesman, Tunde Rahman, did not pick his calls.
In a similar manner, Osoba refused to comment on the matter.
Senior Special Assistant to Fayemi on Public Communication, Mr. Segun Dipe, said power would not be served ala carte.
“You don’t just sit down and covet it. We must earn it. The South-South and Southeast also want the power. They all want power to come to them; but at the end of the day, the best person will emerge. Yes, we want it in Southwest, but we can’t legislate it. These leaders are national figures; they can’t just be pushing for the Southwest; that will be selfish. There is more to power than just sitting down and imagining it.
“Power involves networking and bridge-building. Southwest cannot carry gun to get it; it is a game of number. For us to get it, other zones must be willing to concede it without coercion. So, for power to return to Southwest in 2023, others must see the need. Tunubu, Akande and Fayemi are taking the right steps in the right direction. They are our leaders and they are of good standing. However, the concern of the ARG must not be ignored. Nobody is working against the interest of the South-West. The right thing will be done at the right time.”
But the APC Southwest zonal Publicity Secretary, Mr. Dapo Karounwi, said Ogbungbemi must have made the comment based on the level of his understanding of political mechanism in the country.
He said, “There is nothing the South can do to have the presidency in 2023 under the present arrangements if the north did not willingly concede it. The issue has nothing to do with Fayemi, Tinubu, Akande or anybody. If the PDP eventually gives its presidential ticket to a northerner, be assured that the APC will do same, and the 2015 presidential election scenario will replay in Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, a former president of Aka Ikenga, an association of Igbo professionals, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, has said the only zone in the South that has not produced a president was the Southeast.
He said, “The Igbo have paid the price and they are qualified in every aspect of human endeavour to rule Nigeria. If equity, justice and fairness must be adhered to, an Igbo man should be elected as president in 2023.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/guardian.ng/politics/blame-tinubu-akande-fayemi-if-south-west-loses-2023-presidency/

IgbereTV reports that Gal Pissetzky, lawyer to Nigerian suspected international fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Ray Hushpuppi, has said that his client was kidnapped by the FBI from Dubai and taken to the US.
Hushpuppi and another cyber-heist suspect, Olalekan Jacob Ponle, also known as Mr Woodberry were arrested in Dubai, where they lived, in June. They were later taken to the US where they appeared in a Chicago court on 3 July.
The US and UAE have no existing extradition treaty but Dubai police said the two suspected fraudsters were extradited to the US.
The BBC quoted a spokesman for the US Department of Justice as saying that Hushpuppi was expelled from Dubai and was not extradited.
Speaking with the BBC, Hushpuppi’s lawyer Pissetzky, said, “In my opinion, the FBI and the government here acted illegally when they kidnapped him from Dubai without any legal process to do so.
“There was no extradition, there were no legal steps taken, there were no court documents filed, it was simply a call to the FBI. He is not a citizen of the United States, the US had absolutely no authority to take him.”
Gal Pissetzky had earlier told Forbes that Hushpuppi is not a fraudster but deals on real estate, according to Forbes. https://igberetvnews.com/1357630/fbi-kidnapped-client-dubai-hushpuppis-lawyer/Lalasticlala

Education › COVID-19: Makinde Says SS3 Students In Oyo Will Take WAEC Exams by EBMedia(op): 11:08pm On Jul 09, 2020*. Modified: 11:31pm On Jul 09, 2020 |
IgbereTV reports that the Oyo state government has said that its SS3 students will sit for WAEC Exams. It stated that the FG's directive on 2020 WAEC should be for unity schools.
The state commissioner of education, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, said the SS3 students in the state are in schools preparing for WAEC. The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, had on Wednesday, July 8, suspended the 2020 WAEC indefinitely, stating that the secondary school students preparing for their final examinations would not be able to return to school any time soon because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking with journalists in his office, on Thursday, July 9, on the latest federal government’s position, Olaleye said that the state was also watching out for the reaction of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to the development. While acknowledging that WASSCE was a critical part of education for all students in the state, Olaleye pointed out that the state would make its position known based on its assessment of the prevailing situation. While stating that the federal government’s directive was specifically for its schools, Olaleye said the state’s schools remained open in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.
Olaleye said, “I listened to the federal minister of education and he was emphatic about FG schools. We have resumed in Oyo state and you must have seen the level of compliance to COVID-19 protocols by our schools."
“If you go to our schools, you will see that our senior students are still learning and the preparation for WAEC is ongoing. The examination is part of educational development. So the state government will assess the situation especially because of the fact that WAEC is an integral part of educational development hence it cannot be ignored. “WAEC is a regional examination that involves five countries so we are waiting for the reaction of WAEC. The state government will then assess the situation." https://igberetvnews.com/1357536/covid-19-makinde-says-ss3-students-oyo-will-take-waec-exams/Lalasticlala

Woman Falls In Love With Her Uber Driver, Boldly Proposes To Him On Their First Day Of Meeting (Photos)A pretty-looking black lady got married to a handsome Uber driver after she boldly proposed to him on their first day of meeting. The beautiful black lady who is known as energy_vibration on Instagram narrated how it all happened when she and her friends ordered for an Uber to take them to one of their favourite spots in Washington DC. The lady sat in front whilst her two friends hopped into the back seats when just after minutes, she looks over and falls in love with the uber driver. Without hesitating, she immediately asked him whether he had a girlfriend to which the driver replied "no". Then she followed up to inquire whether he would like one. Energy Vibration narrates that at that point, "he flashes a handsome grin, laughing a bit at my audacity, we chat about music and such and he drops me and my friends off" Without holding back, she immediately asked him whether he had a girlfriend. Before they parted ways, the Uber driver took her contact details and contacted her after a week. One year after that, they moved in together, got engaged six months after moving in, and got married four months after the engagement. They are now happily married with a baby boy. Read her full post below. "*STORY TIME* It was a September evening in 2016 that I attended a Kanye West concert in DC with some friends. After the concert, we went to a local speakeasy to debrief our experience and catch up. After...several...cocktails, my homegirl calls an #Uber to take us to one of our fave late night spots in the city.
The Uber pulls up, she hops in the back with her friend at the time, so I hop in the front. A few minutes into the ride, I look over at the driver and...my.word., I was just.... So with my liquid courage SKRONGLY intact, your girl shoots.her.shot. I ask?” to which he responds, “no ma’am”. Now as a city girl, I was like “no ma’am?!?” but that didn’t stop me from proceeding to ask “ He flashes a handsome grin, laughing a bit at my audacity, we chat about music and such and he drops me and my friends off. Some areas of that convo are a bit blurry but I’d apparently given him my number before leaving.
A week later, he texts me and “Collus” appears on my phone. I had no idea who he was Soooo, I ask for a photo and when he sent it, I of course immediately remembered who he was.
Fast forward a year, we moved in together. Another year later, we were engaged. 6 months later, married, 4 months after that, pregnant and in a little over a week, we’re making a huge move for our family’s future.
Today, we celebrate the bEARTHday of the love of my life, the man of my intentions, my baby daddy and my very best friend ❣️✨" https://www.instagram.com/p/CBiWEmQJzc2/?igshid=a38n24xqretuRead comments of some of her followers below. https://tellmesomethingmediahouse./2020/07/08/woman-falls-in-love-with-her-uber-driver-boldly-proposes-to-him-on-their-first-day-of-meeting-photos/Lalasticlala

Politics › Akwa-Ibom Grants Tax Holiday To Civil Servants Over COVID-19 by EBMedia(op): 8:01pm On Jul 06, 2020 |
IgbereTV reports that the Akwa-Ibom State government has approved holiday for tax-payers in the state in order to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ministry of Finance has been directed to work out modalities for its immediate implementation.
This was part of resolutions reached at the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided over by Governor Udom Emmanuel at Government House, Uyo. Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Information, Charles Udoh, said the decision was in line with the World Bank requirements for giving grants and support to state governments as well as a decision taken at the Governors Forum for grants to cushion the effect of the pandemic on states.
He said that the council also considered a report on leadership training for senior civil servants and commissioning of blocks of flats under the second phase of Barracks Rehabilitation Initiative for the Nigerian Army at the Wellington Bassey Barracks, Six Amphibious Battalion, Ibagwa, saying the project would be due for inauguration within two weeks.
Chairman of the state COVID-19 Management Committee and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, at the weekend issued a seven-day ultimatum to ExxonMobil to comply with COVID-19 guidelines or risk closure of its isolation centres.
He said in operating its quarantine centres, the company had not followed laid down protocols of the Akwa Ibom State Government, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the effective running of isolation centres.
“The breaches observed at ExxonMobil’s quarantine centres, in the estimation of the COVID-19 Management Committee, are capable of endangering the lives of not only the employees of ExxonMobil, but also the lives of Akwa Ibom people,” he said. Ekuwem maintained that the state government could not overlook the breaches, as they could jeopardise efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 121 violators of compulsory use of facemasks in public places in the state. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Nudam Fredrick, made this known in a statement, saying the action was aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, in line with provisions of the Quarantine and Restriction of Movement Regulations 2020.
He said the arrested offenders would be arraigned in the special courts established in the three senatorial districts to serve as a deterrent to others and urged the people to always use their facemasks in public places. https://igberetvnews.com/1357210/akwa-ibom-grants-tax-holiday-civil-servants-covid-19/Lalasticlala

Politics › 'We Rigged-In Akeredolu In 2016', Ondo SSG Who Just Resigned Reveals by EBMedia(op): 7:07pm On Jul 06, 2020 |
After resigning from office, Ifedayo Abegunde the immediate past Secretary to the Ondo State Government, has alleged that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu didn't win the 2016 governorship election as was acclaimed, IgbereTV reports.
Abegunde who on Monday morning resigned after a silent war between him and Governor Akeredolu has opened up on his resignation and issues between him and the governor in on a programme on Crest 87.7 Fm, which was monitored by our correspondent in Akure.
He said some "moneybags" in the All Progressives Congress including himself rigged Akeredolu into power in 2016 by manipulating the election result in his favour.
He said Akeredolu lost the 2016 governorship poll to the then Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, who he claimed was the winner of the election.
He said, "It was through the powers from me and other APC pillars that made INEC declare Akeredolu as governor after he had lost the election.
"So, Akeredolu didn’t win the Ondo governorship election in 2016 but we made it possible for him to become governor.
"We were the pillars behind him and we will not support him again. He will lose this time around.”
On his reason he resigned his position, the former Ondo SSG said he decided to quit the administration due to the way Akeredolu was running the government.
While stressing that he had worked with three different governors in the state, Abegunde described the government of Akeredolu as the worst in the history of the state.
He said, “Akeredolu has reduced the government to the property of his wife, son and in-laws and all government contracts goes to these same set of people from Imo State."
Abegunde further said he was unable to cater for the needs of those who joined him to support the government because funds were not allocated to his office.
He denied that the sum of N5m was being allocated to his office on monthly basis and accused the governor of telling lies.
He said, "Where on earth did the governor give me such funds or let him come forward with the evidence.
"Recently, I reported him to Governor Fayemi of Ekiti State and he promised to invite both of us to Abuja for settlement.
"I remember that I told Fayemi that I was going to spit on the face of Akeredolu if he repeated the lies that he was giving me N5m monthly.
"And I will then return to Akure to resign and as well inform the public of his looting spree.” https://igberetvnews.com/1357204/rigged-akeredolu-2016-ondo-ssg-just-resigned-reveals/Lalasticlala
